I'm not sure if it counts to say that I finished this book, because technically I skipped the section on the Daily Moon as I didn't feel I needed it (at the moment). And honestly, if you count all the sections I skimmed I probably read just under two thirds of the whole book.

And really, that tells you something.

I bought this book because I was looking forward to the moon specific information, I should have paid more attention to the write up because all the law of attraction, "new moon wishes" stuff was not what I was looking for. So I skimmed it. The fact that I felt like I was reading something written for someone in 8th grade, with the tone and language always making me feel like I was dumb, whenever she got to in depth explanations probably increased my desire to skim. That's the bad part, now the ugly (or is it just annoying).

I have several notes in my book that ask why the author insists on recommending the exact opposite of the energy that she just described. I.e.: Aries is impulsive, impetuous and energetic so this is the time to... sit down and plan the next 12 months? I... umm... No. Having finished reading the whole section I'd suggest you plan during Capricorn - which loves planning, control and is highly focused - or Virgo - which loves order and is perfectionistic and then do exactly what she says "infuse your plans with drive and determination" during Aries. This was not the only time where the advice went against the energy of the moon and I found this odd. It seems to me that the point of a tool like this is to learn to ride the current of the energy that IS not to teach you to try to force the energy into constraints. Maybe if there had been a section on what to constrain or watch out for (i.e. too impulsive in Aries, or overly controlling in Capricorn) as well as a section on what to nurture in each sign it would have been less grating, but the fact that some signs were all flow while others had these counter suggestions made me feel like we were seeing the author's own biases.

But what TRULY annoyed me (and in fact I skipped almost everything in the Full Moon section because of this) was the Full Moon advice. Full Moon is the peak, it is completion, it's the baby exploding into the world, it's people finally oohing and ahhing over what you built. Why, in the name of all that is holy, at this point would you be releasing, and wrapping things up?

Let's think about this cycle like sex. The New Moon is when you start waggling eye brows and making it super clear what you're interested in. The Waxing Moon is foreplay and getting into it. And Full Moon is the orgasm. No one, in the middle of an orgasm is like: Ok pull out and let's review how this went. No. First you enjoy the orgasm, you celebrate, you reveal in making crap happen. The whole release, review, forgive and gratitude those are all actions done during the Waning Moon. (A whole half cycle which our culture tends to overlook in a LOT of systems, btw.)

I theorize that you can't talk about the point in a cycle where plant seeds, and then talk about the point in the cycle where you get gorgeous flowers and get to celebrate what you grew and then... start the cycle over. The author knew she needed that coming down, but she doesn't mark another phase of the moon (though she does clearly explain all 8 phases in the beginning and you can see how she has the Full Moon repeating what goes with the last few phases there) so those things important to manifestation (forgiveness and gratitude) got shoved on to the Full Moon and we just skip celebration and sharing. Adding a section on something like the Dark Moon would have allowed the three natural points and processes - Planting, Celebrating, Releasing - to be marked in the book without any weird twisting and shaping.

But that said, I DO have a lot of highlights through out the books. I went through and made a reference table for myself on the moon in various signs and houses. I got some good astrological specific information from the book (like the fact that during the Full Moon the Sun and Moon are opposite each other in the chart). But I'm torn on who to recommend it to. Technically I think it should be recommended to people brand new to astrology because it's written directly to them and it's got some great basic information. But it also has somethings that are forced and wrong (ala Full Moon rant above) so then they'd go into their studies with errors. Likewise anyone who knows anything about the Law of Attraction is going to find this to be a basic primer and it might be a little too woo to someone completely new to it (though it is obviously written for them). Experienced astrologers will be annoyed by the little things that annoyed me. And in fact, I have a friend I wanted to recommend it to for the "when the moon is here" parts, but I didn't recommend it because I felt like I'd also need to send notes about what to ignore in it and how annoying is that?

So in the end while I did get some value out of it and it was worth what I paid for my ebook ($2) I can't say that I highly recommend it. Sadly, because I think a good basic book is exactly the thing I needed on my reference shelf. Oh well.

Do you ever buy a book with the hope that it will be interesting and insightful and it winds up actually just being one long teaser ad for the author's blog and/or website? I know I don't, but that's kind of what happened with Moonology, which I feel kind of dumb saying now given that the title of the book is a made-up word, but sometimes the thrill of buying physical books to live on my shelves is too strong to resist. As someone just beginning my studies of the moon, astrology, and other esoteric associations, I was disappointed.

There are some interesting details and associations in this book, particularly around the new and full moon meanings and rituals, but it works much better as a quick reference book, not a truly educational resource. Part of me wants to check out the author's website in the hopes that she has more for readers online, and another part of me is perturbed enough to not want to give her the clicks, especially given that much of this information can also be found online via a few quick searches.

Let's get something out of the way right off the bat: The concept of soul contracts is toxic, victim-blaming bullshit. It's a way to brainwash people into believing that they deserved whatever abuse they lived through. No one - NO ONE - agrees to be abused for their ~*~higher good~*~. People do not deserve to be mistreated. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is not to be trusted.

Now, if you can get past that particular bit of toxic thought patterning...

There's some interesting information here, but nothing worth getting really excited over if you're actually interested in incorporating more lunar energy in your life. Basically, if you follow any kind of pagan path or dabble in astrology already, skip it. This is watered down pablum for the masses, not life-altering esoteric wisdom. (Side note: this is typically true for anything published by Hay House.) The focus is on wishing on the New Moon and forgiving on the Full Moon, with a side dish of following along with the moon as it transits the signs & Houses through the course of the month. The Quarter Moons get a scant mention in an appendix, and the other four phases (Crescent, Gibbous, Disseminating, and Balsamic - aka, the phases between the Big Four) don't even warrant a mention.

I'm actually angry with myself for buying this book.

I have a love hate relationship with this book. I love the content which includes such aspects as an essential oil, mantra, meditation, dos and don’ts, and more for every House. There’s meat for each New Moon and every Full Moon too. She included five appendices of information that I feel should have been introduced where appropriate throughout the book and leave the appendices for reference rather than key material. Being relatively green to astrology and to the changes and impact of the moon, I have a lot to learn. I dived into the book, highlighted A LOT, and inserted colored paperclips to mark key pages. I was psyched by Yasmin’s material and planned to use the book to meditate through the lunar cycles this year (which I believe is Yasmin’s intent for the reader too), but what I thought was a simply goal is DIFFICULT using her book. One "problem" is that Yasmin introduces the Rising Sign which is a more in-depth (and appropriate - my words) representation of yourself than the Sun Sign. But, as you work to understand all the material in the book, many times it isn't clear which sign to use. This is key because if you're able to use Yasmin's book as I believe she expected it to be used then it will be a personal experience based on your birth date, time, and location.

Yasmin references her moonology.com site A LOT. She recommended that you go there to learn this and that. Problem is that many things cost money, AND things have obviously moved since she wrote the book so some URLs are incorrect.

Lastly, although the book is busting with information I find it simply too difficult to follow easily. Minimally, it needs an index, perhaps additional appendices with the key charts (e.g., Finding your rising sign), consistent information on which sign to start with (i.e., sun or rising), an additional chapter that ties it all together, and enough information that I don’t need to go to moonology.com and other astrological sites unless perhaps I want to know the sign for the day. Yasmin needs to decide whether Moonology is meant to be a standalone book or a hook for readers to join her site and pay for things.

I’m tossed about whether I will buy her Astrology book. If it’s like Moonology I will need the internet and many hours of study to grasp the points.

I learnt about this book from one of my favourite Youtubers - Kalyn Nicholson. She is straight-up my spirit animal and I have always felt a gravitational attraction towards the moon, which is why I had the strong urge to purchase it. It also helped that I got it at a slightly discounted price on Kindle because of some sale at the time I bought it.

Coming to the book itself - I loved the first half of the book inasmuch as it talks about manifestation and manifesting with the phases of the moon to make them more powerful - I thought it was the perfect book to start the new year with. It also helped, that the new moon is the time to send your wishes out into the universe - and the first new moon of 2019 was on the very first weekend (Sunday) of the new year.

But then this book starts going into unchartered territories (at least for me) like manifesting according to what sign you are (which was simple enough to understand) your rising sign, and what constellation the moon currently is in according to the House you fall under your birth chart and by this point I was unable to keep up anymore. I somehow struggled and skimmed through the end.

Basically, it started out great but after a point it just got way too complex and technical for me to follow. But if someone is truly into astrology and has the knowledge to keep up with this, its a great book for them. Personally, I like reading about horoscopes but while being more than aware of the fact that it is not scientific or accurate or a reflection of how I am as an individual or cannot predict my future. Due to my skepticism in its science, it is very difficult for me to take hardcore astrology seriously. Even the stuff in this book, I take with a pinch of salt. But these are just my personal views. If I was someone who was more interested in getting into astrology or moonology in-depth, I probably would have found this book super useful.

Loved this. First foray into learning about the lunar cycles and how they relate to astrology and planning your life. I am excited to read more books about this and to get more into how menstrual cycles and feminine energy relate to the moon.

This was pretty disappointing. I feel like this book had a lot of potential but, ultimately there is some misinformation and (in my opinion at least) triggering suggestions in this book.

The basic information about the moon phases and the chart for how the moon in each sign affects your natal chart were helpful but are very beginner level. I think that some of the mantras/affirmations, *some* of the focus areas, and *some* of the suggested activities were good. That’s where my two star rating comes from.

My top criticisms:
* My first complaint is the numerous mentions of dieting, limiting food intake, being hyperaware of food intake during various points of the moon cycle is dangerous and wrong. This was a bit triggering for me, as someone with an eating disorder, and I would imagine it would be for others that have ED’s as well.
* My second complaint is the mischaracterizations of the signs and, subsequently, poor recommendations for activities to do during the moon cycles based on those. Ex: sitting down and planning during Aries (sign of action and passion), limiting food intake during Taurus, etc.
* Some of the mantras/ affirmations are honestly pretty goofy sounding. Some were great, basic affirmations that I would use. Others, like “life is sweet!” And “the world is my oyster!” are kind of corny.
* The author doesn’t’ seem to have a solid understanding of what the astrological houses are. I had to go back and double check some of the information and found it to be wrong (at least in my understanding.

I went into this wanting a book that would solidly explain the moon cycles, how to apply them to my chart, and how to honor them. If I have to go back and double check and correct information in that book, which I did here, I consider that a failure. Would not recommend this.

Far too many repetitions, I thought this book would just never end. The hammering of the same few stuff was tiring and boring. Also, the French translation is horrific.
And I found the tone to be condescending at times.

All in one, this was disappointing. I had wanted to read it for a while and honestly thought it'd be better and deeper.

This is a perfect tool for creating your best life by living within the lunar cycles. It is a commitment but if you are ready to schedule your time accordingly with the moon there will be opportunities to achieve success. You will get out of it what you want to put into it. I am currently working on the course for Certified Moonologer via Hay House so I am going to have to give it five stars.

While Moonology offers some really interesting aspects that I'll be adding to my practice, there was also heaps of information that didn't appeal to me personally - so lots of cherry picking and skimming.
On top of that, the author is constantly referring you to their website (with some URLs that are wrong) to buy additional things.
I'd recommend getting it from your library.

I cannot in good faith recommend this to beginner witches, though it can be a good reference book down the line.

It was not only a tough read (due to the fact that the language itself was not overly complex, but so simplified that it was the opposite of captivating), it felt as if Boland was repelling me every time she included links to her website or held my hand through each and every step of the way. This book was in no way charming, nor did it quench my thirst for knowledge quickly enough to encourage me to keep reading.

Although the book itself holds some rather interesting (and important!) information and properties related to the moon and lunar cycles (and indeed, as the title suggests, gives the reader ideas on how to work with them) I just couldn't find most of the information included within the book relevant enough to warrant it being there.

For example, the author highlights how to meditate (something I don't find particularly relevant to the topic at hand) along with mantras, essential oils, guiding archangels and guiding goddesses for each lunar month. There were also "things to do" corresponding to each moon phase ("pay your bills", "hug your parents", "take up belly dancing") It's not something particularly problematic, but I wish there had been less correspondences and "tips" and "rituals" seemingly pulled out of nowhere (rituals such as "draw a picture of your family") and more time taken to explain which particular objects or types of manifestation should have been centered on and why they correspond to the given lunar phase.

Of course I, as the reader, can deduce why some of these correspondences, "rituals" and tidbits of advice appear where they do; but I did not buy "Moonology" for doing some guesswork, I bought and read it in hopes of expanding my knowledge on the moon and how to manifest around its cycles.

By the end (which felt like it would never come) I'd felt this was a closer representation to a rushed cashgrab than something a passionate author spent time, love and effort into each word to captivate her audience.

This book is a pretty solid guide for those who connect with moon magic. There were some points that really resonated and were extremely helpful to me, and others that just didn’t stick. Quite a bit of repetition, BUT I suppose it’s necessary as a whole. I found myself spacing off as I read and then having to go back and re-read it because I’m that person who just can’t handle the thought of having missed important stuff… but then afterward, realizing that I totally just wasted my time and should have cut those pages as a loss.

The first quarter or so of the book is fantastic! There are lots of wonderful points and it explains in depth the New and Full moon cycles, giving you a very pinpointed aspect of emotions and manifestation tools based on the energies of the moon at any given point. I loved loved the loved the first portion. After that, it begins to break down certain houses in astrology and what to focus on based on your own personal birth chart. Then, it goes into quite a bit of detail on eclipses, not only as an overall energy base but each individual house and what it means when eclipses are in those houses. Along with how to utilize these portals so to speak. Despite the (several) links sending you to Yasmin’s website for free charts and individualized house placement and sooooo much more, I still got super confused, all the while repetition was in order.

That said, I’ll surely be keeping my kindle copy on hand for reference as I continue to research and learn a bit more about the cosmos and such. I find it to be extremely fascinating, and quite honestly wish I was better with numbers because that would help a lot LOL! Also, I do recommend giving Yasmin Boland’s website a look, even more so than this book. There is so much to be learned there and it’s an absolutely lovely site! A solid 3 stars for me, but only because I went in a little too excited and came out feeling a tad disappointed in the overall product.

Moonology by Yasmin Boland was a bit of a surprise for me, because it's more of a book you dip in and out of as you need it. It explains how the New Moon is a powerful time of manifestation, and how to make New Moon Wishes, as Boland calls them, and how the Full Moon is a time of forgiveness and gratitude, and rituals to perform for both. But the majority of the book focuses on giving you the information you need regarding working with the moon based on what the phase of the moon is, what sign it's in, and what relation is has to your own natal chart.

So I didn't read the whole book, because it just wouldn't have been helpful. I read up on the Full Moon that had just passed as the time of reading - Full Moon in Pisces - and bits surrounding it, but the New Moon in Taurus wouldn't exactly be helpful for the time I was reading. It's a book you're meant to revisit and look up at each moon. When it got to the New and Full Moon in regards to your natal chart, though, I started getting pretty confused. This is mainly on me than the book, however, as I'm just not au fait with astrology yet. I managed to get my head around it all eventually, but again, it's to dip in and out of.

But it does get really involved, and I just don't think, on the whole, Moonology is really for me. There are elements I can incorporate into my practice of witchcraft, but it's not really something I would stick to religiously. I might dip in and out to read about specific moon phases with moon signs, to get a better idea of what's going on, but I doesn't really work for me.

Good for getting a basic example of how you can work with the moon phases and signs in daily life beyond just full moon/new moon.
Somewhat over-simplified, and the description for calculating your rising sign is poorly explained, use a reliable chart generator to find your rising sign and houses.
Great if you are a beginner with moon magic, but don't stop with this one author, keep going deeper!

Really enjoyed this beginners introduction to astrology. Easy to read and take the relevant information on the new/full moons from but gives the reader more depth with daily moons and other moon phases, although I skipped a lot of the final chapter. I shall now be harnessing the power of the moon like the psychic Cancerian that I am!

This was informative and easy to read. I have bookmarked areas for future reference. She gets into archangels and some aspects that I don’t connect with, but I just skimmed over those sections. I really enjoyed the astrology information provided and easy to reference charts. I really want the Moonology oracle cards now! :)
