I've been abandoned. Left on the side of a mountain road with a Rocky Mountain storm on the way and the only person I can turn to is a stranger—but Aaron has his own secrets...

Gwynn swallowed hard. “Hey.” She hovered on the side of the road, unsure of what to do, now that she’d gotten his attention.
Gray eyes started at her feet, taking their time as they traced up her body, tracing danger up her spine.

He was bigger than she’d thought. Close up, he looked hard and hungry. Well over six-foot, with slightly curling black hair, a scruffy three-day-old beard, and a silver stud in one ear. But this was no Pirate Jack. This man was all hard, bulging muscle under his tight, white tee-shirt and jeans—definitely more lumberjack than pirate.

He finished his examination and finally met her eyes. Her panting breaths were suddenly shorter. Her gut said ‘back away- danger! Danger!’

But this danger wasn’t the kind she was familiar with, growing up on the edge of the seedier side of town. He wasn’t a street thug or a pimp. She knew what those people looked like, smelled like. She’d seen enough of them, when her dad drove them into the neighborhoods her mom struggled to keep them out of. This man felt like a different kind of threat.

He had a stillness about him. The kind that said he would move in an instant. The kind that would come in handy if Herb’s buddies showed up.
The lethal kind.

Short and sweet wolf shifter romance.

Gwynn was abandoned on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere by her own father. Aaron is the one who finds her and brings her to his cabin. But he’s not all he seems. His secrets have secrets.

I know it’s a short story but it felt a bit rushed in certain spots and definitely at the end.

After all this time, Gwynn’s disgusting father comes back into her life, not to make up for lost time, but to use her as an object he can sell in exchange for a loan he can’t pay to a dangerous man.

So he takes her to a mountain road, leaves her without her phone, purse, or proper clothing, as a snow storm is moving in. With no other option, she has to rely for help from a stranger, Aaron, a wolf shifter and the loan shark’s enforcer who came to pick up her father’s “payment”. Will he reveal to her the secrets he keeps? Will he protect her from the inevitable visit by Leon’s men? Will she accept the truth he has to tell her – that she is his fated Mate?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Gwynn’s father gets us all angry enough that our emotions are high and we’re ready for the hero to enter and rescue her. Good story line, fast pace, and well-depicted characters we can either love or hate, all make this story work well. Grab your copy and see how everything resolves.

Ugh. Um. So. Insta-love was very much a thing in this book. The writing itself wasn't bad, the book just felt rushed. And insta-love with a rushed plot is not anyone's friend.

MAJOR Plot spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.

4.5 stars

I don’t know how to review this book because even though it did something that didn’t care for, I still adored the meat of the storyline along with the characters of Aaron and Gwynn. There was just a lot to love that if the thing I didn’t like wasn’t in here then I would have given this a five stars. It was that good.

The story started off with a bang with Gwynn’s father wanted to sell Gwynn to a loan shark to cover his gambling debts. The way it was written it gave that very creepy yet sleezy vibe that reflected the entire situation that Gwynn had got into with her father. Just feeling her pain and hurt over her father doing this to her after he disappointed her all her life was very heartbreaking to witness.

But what added to this setup was the fact that Aaron was the fact that he worked for this criminal loan shark that was not happy about not getting his money back from Gwynn’s father. So, he set out for Aaron to hold Gwynn as collateral in Aaron’s cabin in the middle of the woods. What made it interesting though was fact the only reason that Aaron was working for this loan shark to get this piece of land that belonged to his people, which brought an even more complicated piece of the puzzle was the fact that he was a wolf. The fact that he felt was his responsibility to go after this land that sat on the pack’s land in order to hide from the outside world. So, he entered this criminally enterprise even though it made him sick his stomach especially since he was the enforcer of his people when he was with the wolves, who kicked him out of the pack when Aaron decided to go after this land. So, not only was his conflicted of what he was doing with this loan shark that held this land over his head, but also the fact that he was going to take Gwynn for collateral especially when he made a deal with the loan shark for the land for holding Gwynn.

There was a lot of conflict already before Gwynn and Aaron even met, but it got even more complicated when they officially met because Aaron not only kept it a secret that he worked for the loan shark, but that he was wolf. The entire time he went back and forth with himself of whether to tell her or whether not. How he should keep his distance between her and him. Yada. Yada.

But what great was how they built trust between them even during a short period time. Gwynn thought he was her rescuer after her father abandoned her on that cold mountain so she had to put her trust in him as he lead her to his cabin to safety. Then he took care of her once she entered his cabin and never stopped. There was just a connection and bond that lead that instant trust between them. As well attraction too.

The scene were he helped her get dry was so sensual and so sexy that it set the pages on fire. It was so hot as he peeled layers and layers away from her body the wrapped her into a blanket and rubbed her down to get that warmth in her body. Oh was so good. Such great built up of sexual tension between them that brought them closer and closer. When he held her tight in his arms to get more warmth in her system was beautiful, sexy and just utter perfection. I loved that scene so much and showed the chemistry that the two fo them had. It was a great start of the buildup between them.

Then the whole thing that I didn’t care for happened when the slept together for the first time. I thought it was going to take a little longer then when it actually happened. It happened a little soon to me. It gave me slight one night stand vibes to it, which was the trope I don’t care for. I just thought after the build up with the getting dry scene that would be carried throughout the story as they spent more and more time together. I wanted to see that sexual tension keep on growing and growing until they couldn’t stand it anymore, and they finally gave in. It just a little too quick for me. They were practically strangers, I just don’t like that personally..

But that love scene was scorching. It was very steamy and very sexy. It just added a level of intensity to their story that put it over the top. It showed off just how much chemistry that the truly had with one another. It was glorious. I loved even though I did think it was too soon.

The rest of their love scenes were just has hot and fiery as the first one. Yes, that did seem to be the crux of their relationship while they were in the cabin, but I also felt that with each time they came together it just intensified the wolf mating bond between Aaron and Gwynn. Because that the mating bond was set very early on in their relationship, there was instantaneous feeling for Aaron that he would do anything for her because he was his and no one else would do. He knew it as well as his wolf did.

There weren’t together long before she found out the truth of him working for the loan shark and that his job was to be her “holder” for a week until her father paid the debt. As soon as Gwynn found out then she reacted and felt like a fool for trusting him so she ran from him.

There were these moments when he went after her, and he came to her as a wolf that was both sweet yet heartbreaking. Those scene touched me so much. There was just so many emotions in that those scenes that it was very clear to see that he was invested in her and wanted a life with her. The first that was just so touching was when he cuddled with her as a wolf to keep her warm. They just that this really sweet snuggle moment that I absolutely loved and warmed my heart. The second moment was when he reveled to her that he was a wolf by turning into a wolf in front of her. When he did that he tried to nuzzle her hand, but she flicked away from him. HIs reaction to her reaction just broke my heart because he whined and had those puppy dogs that just broke me because I could see how much he pained him for her to react to him like that. It was just a stab in the heart. It made me feel so much. It was such amazing and powerful scene.

Things happened after that as she tried to decide whether she could trust him or not and whether she could deal with the whole thing and him being her mate. Things went quickly after that with some high stakes moments with smatterings of suspense that kept it really fast paced. I appreciated that adrenaline rush and kept me sucked into the story.

In terms of their relationship they moved pretty fast after that. There wasn’t a lot of relationship/emotional building between them, yet they were declaring their love for one another. Admittedly I thought that was too fast, and I think if they just admitted that they needed each other and wanted another that would have been enough for me, instead of the love declaring. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe it. It was just a little too soon. After all they had known each other a few days, yet they were in love, which was a little iffy in believability for me. However I could swallow it more because of the whole mating bond. If that wasn’t present, then I would have been very dissatisfied and wouldn’t have bought it at all.

I don’t think I did this book justice in my review because there were so many good feels I had while reading it. It had a lot of elements that I liked. The intensity was good. I liked the little bit of suspense/danger element to the story that added another level to the story. I loved Aaron because even though he was working for a bad guy, he was actually good guy. I liked seeing his struggle and conflict that he had not only with Gwynn but his pack as well. He was just trying to do the right thing in an unconventional way. He just felt so much deep inside that he refused to show on the outside until he met Gwynn. He felt lot of pain about being kicked of his pack when he was doing what he was doing for his pack. Seeing his reactions when she flicked away from him was just so heartbreaking and painful that I felt stabbed in my heart just like he was. I loved the wolf moments between him and Gwynn. I loved how the snuggled together both with Aaron being wolf and human. I loved seeing him take care of her. It was sexy. It was hot. They great sexy time moments that I really liked. They just had some really great moments together. Some things did happen a little quickly for my liking, but I could over more in this story than I could if it happened in other stories. Partly that was due to the fact of the wolf mating bond that accelerated things between them to supersonic level. So, that was the only reason that I gave this a four and half stars, instead of a five stars. Everything else I loved because it just gave me all feels that I was looking for. It was glorious.

I enjoyed the story, but it's a bit confusing—feels like something's either missing or there's too much going on, hard to put a finger on it. The third-person perspective was a tad odd for me, but it's not a big deal. I liked the complex characters. Also, I appreciated the idea that blood family doesn't necessarily hold great importance, but that doesn't imply your chosen family won't become significant. And those steamy scenes? It's like the author really thought through every detail.

Fated Mate starts insane, and the insanity continues throughout this short novella. Gwynn is left on the side of the road by her shifty father to pay off his gambling debts. To Gwynn's good fortune, a stranger--of course a good-looking, virile man, comes to her rescue out of nowhere and offers to take her to his cabin in the woods. *Sigh*. Gwynn is a good girl, so after a few seconds of thought, Gwynn agrees to follow him to his cabin to avoid, but of course, the storm that is brewing.

Aaron witnesses Gwynn's father abandoning her on the road and reluctantly offers his assistance to the inappropriately dressed damsel in distress on the road. Aaron and Gwynn are soaked from the downpour on the way to his cabin. Once they reach the cabin, Aaron realizes Gwynn is going into shock and that he needs to get her out of her wet clothes and proceeds to do just that, and we all know where this is heading.

Fated Mate is predictably unbelievable and ridiculous, even for a shifter tale. Filled with typos, repetitive dialogue and some character confusion (Gwynn suddenly becomes Anna). Fated Mate is the first book in the Fated Mountain Wolfpack Series and based on the introduction to the series; I can resist reading further and find a better way to spend a snowy Sunday afternoon.

On my Were Scale of Hotness, 2 stars.

Hmmmmm...

It started off ok, kinda, then the sex lust set in and I'm like WTF??? Way way too quick! Ok...It's a wolf shifter book but I like a bit of believability. And then, picking here, his surname changed and he called her by a different name! I felt no emotions, or their 'love'. Not feeling it at all! Pretty weak overall. Nice to see the 'Alpha's ' were women!!! Seen as the male lead was weak. Found it free fortunately..

So I wish I would’ve liked the writing for this book more. The characters didn’t really have enough personality or building to them and neither did most of the scenes. It wasn’t bad enough to just stop reading though.

Could have gotten 4 stars if there hadn't been so many flaws...

Should have been read out loud by the author. Is the author a none native english speaker?

There were too many mistakes, many that Word, Grammarly or Prowritingaid would have caught alone. A professional editor would have been even better.
E.g there were a double "her" in chapter 1 and a "the" misplaced in chapter 2 and a couple of "blond" who were missing an "e".
A paragraph that was too explaining and could have been better shortened.
Missing punctuation and apostrophes, a double-double quotation.
Several sentences began with "she" and it happened so often I started to noticed. It was like 6 sentences in a row at one point.
And on top I found so many typo's throughout the book...

In her POV in chapter 1 and 2 she. has a hoodie on. But from Aaron's POV she has a jacket on...

So his shack miles away from everything else has pipes connected to it? I hardly believe that. More like shit in a hole in the woods would be more correctly. Maybe a tank collecting rain, but you can't drink and bathe in that. Perhaps a well?

31% in Aaron says he hardly freezes because of his high metabolism. This is wrong you have a high metabolism "if" you have a high body temperature, and not the other way around.
And wolves in general have a low metabolism because prey isn't always abundant, so they need to have a metabolism that helps them store fat and energy. And to help them keep warm they curl up around themselves to make sure no limb gets exposed. In a herd they help each other keep warm.
But... when they are hunting, running and about there metabolism gets 3 times higher than any other mammal.
I know this is fiction, but....

47% in. Aaron should have smelled the traces of her in the air, he should have picked up that she had gone out of the house. He could smell just fine earlier.
And when he walked into the cabin he should have smelled the pheromones of distress. You can’t fool a dog.

The way Aaron kept saying, "she's mine" "no she's not mine, I can't keep her" got really tiring. It was every chapter... and almost felt like every second page...

The time is wonky as well. Aaron says good morning, then they do it and sleep some more and then its dawn but they have not been together for more than 20 hours apparently???
Then in the woods about half into the book, she falls asleep, then it's morning, but a couple of pages later it's late afternoon but nothing happened between there...

64% in Aaron suddenly changed name to Zeke. From the context, it could only have been Aaron. "His gaze flickered up and down Zeke's shredded jeans and bare feet. 'You didn't say you had company.'" And then Aaron answers..
But Aaron had also gotten rid of all the shredded clothes earlier and only have a blanket, so I'm confused.

Omg... 69% in Gwynn got renamed to Anna!!!

The ending could have mellowed out a little more. It felt a little rushed in the end. And I felt that Gwynn was pressed/forced to say yes to be Aaron's mate.

Gwynn is tricked into going to the mountains with her dad by her dad. Once there she finds her dad ready to sell her to some guys for a debt that he has. But Aaron, a wolf shifter is watching the entire thing go down and he doesn't like any of it. He's trying to bring down the wolf pack that Gwynn has just been given to so they think he's on their side when they ask him to keep her for a while.

Gwynn thinks that she found a safe place to be with Aaron after she ran away from the guys her dad gave her to. She wasn't dressed for Winter weather in the mountains so when Aaron took her half frozen self back to his cabin to warm up and to escape the bad guys, she takes him up on the offer.

They get along really good and Aaron falls for her so fast, knowing that she's human and he can't be with her because of the trouble he's mixed up in and what he's given up in order to bring the bad guys down. Everything is going well until she finds out the truth and they find themselves in danger and he has to ask for help from the people he left.

I really liked Aaron and Gwynn, they make for a really good couple. I really liked the wolf shifter history lesson that we got with this story. This was a fun read.

It got better...
I don't plan on reading the rest of the series, however. This novella probably should have a full novel. The bones are there, strong enough to support it. Love the idea of the women being the alphas and in charge. The DNA aspect of the shifting gene is unique, which I definitely appreciate. The set up of Aaron working for the mobster, her dad "selling" her to pay of debt, and the forced proximity drew me in at the beginning.

Almost DNF because of how Gywnn was described by Aaron upon his first sight. Was he a good guy put in a tough spot making the best of it? Or is he truly a bad guy? It definitely gave off bad guy vibes. The insta love didn't sit right until Aaron acknowledged that she was his mate . Even then, it could have used some flushing out. Some of the writing felt circular with the same information being repeated on the same page. I kept reading as it is highly rated, and it did get better. This will not be a book I'd recommend regularly to others. There are better shifter romances out there, in my opinion.

When Gwynn is left on the side of the road on a mountain pass . She has to rely on the help of a man that she doesn't know but wants to . Aaron is an enforcer for a loan shark but he has some secrets to why he is working for them . Together they have to fight for what they want and the love that is brewing between them and will she believe the truth about Aaron and his life .

Well what can \I say about Aaron and Gwyn . Aaron is well he is a sexy, brooding and a shifter who has been working to help out his pack. He is oh so smoldering you will want to take him home and really have fun with him . hehehehehehhe. Gwyn well she is at the beginning a little whiny and kind of annoying but as you read she becomes stronger . She really comes into her own once she gets to the ranch. They are good characters on their own but as a couple they smolder .

I truly liked this story , the characters are so well written and complex . The author takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride that will have you on the edge of your seat through out most of the book . There is a intrigue and lots of romance and some scenes that will make your kindle melt . This would be a great book to read at the pool or out enjoying the sun . So if you want a sexy read that will have you reading till late in the night check out the Fated Mate .

I had a great time reading this book. Gwen's father is a horrible human being and when he sells her to cover his debt, she is left in the middle of the woods, no phone, no purse and no warm clothes with a snowstorm rolling in. Luckily she meets Aaron, who she sees as her savior, but he is really the enforcer and send to collect her as payment for the debt her father owes. All Aaron has to do is watch her for a few days and hand her over to the rest of the mob guys. Sounds easy, but then the attraction and chemistry kicks in and nothing is easy. When Gwen's father comes back yet again to use her again, Aaron and his pack works together to put an end to the deal. Story line is great and past paced with some action, humor, sizzling hot times and a surprise ending. Characters were well developed and easy to relate too. A great read.

Her father sold her to a wolf pack, and the guy who's in charge of her care has been nicer to her than any man she's ever met, by using basic human - I mean, lupine - decency, so naturally she sleeps with him. The heroine is intelligent, sensible, strong, plucky, and generally likable. They're responsible enough to use protection, and I respect that. The exposition about Lycanthroism is pretty interesting. The tension is pretty well-done and believable, and the author is good at keeping their POV's separate and distinctive. I didn't think the man had a distinctive personality, but his circumstances make him really sympathetic. My friend said she wants to give him a big hug. Final thoughts: It's pretty okay if you're not a stickler for grammar. The romance scenes are vivid, the setting is immersive, and the plot is well-explained.

When Gwynn is dumped on the mountain by her father she encounters Aaron.
Gwynn is surprised when her father asks her to spend the day with him and now she is standing by the car on a mountain road. Her father is arguing with someone and she gradually realizes what he is saying. He owes a debt for which he has no money to pay and is offering her as payment and when he gets refused he jumps in the car and drives off leaving her stranded with a storm coming and dressed in thin clothing. She starts to walk and meets Aaron who offers to let her shelter in his cabin but she is unaware that he works for the man her father owes money and has been told to watch her for a week.

Gwynn's father owes money to some very dangerous people and decides that his daughter makes a worthy trade. Aaron comes to collect . . . and then some ;)

I generally stay away from wolf-shifter romances because I feel like they're a bit overexposed right now. However, Fated Mate seems to have changed my mind. The story was a nice easy read and I was ready to jump into the sequel immediately. The H/h are pretty instalove, but they they've got good reasons for fighting their desires. I look forward to seeing more of the pack dynamics and mythology explained in the next books.

Overall rating: 4.4

Looking for a read with heavy sexual content? This would rate 5 stars on that alone, for readers who seek heavy. For me, it would score a 3, it took me away from the storyline for my taste. This authors writing skill? Easy 5 stars. Character development..4 stars. Unique quality...5 stars for the tie in with the evil side of gambling addiction. Bottom line...even with a factor I don’t need my books to have, this author still made this a worthy read and an easy recommend. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

Found in the woods

This book hits all of the points needed for a fantastic romance novel, a lady in distress, a disappointing father, a family that has your back, and a gorgeous troubled wolf shifter who falls head over heals for his lady. Such a fantastic start to a new series. I enjoyed the way these two find their balance and their HEA in a less than perfect world. The author introduced us to a brand new world and a cast of characters that I hope we get to see more of as the series continues.

Gwynn’s father needs to be nominated for the worst father ever. She has tried her whole life to feel close tim him. Then he appears one day and wants to take a ride up to the mountains with her. That is when everything changes for her. Aaron is a wolf shifter and screwed up and lost his family’s land. Now he works for a loan shark. He just didn’t know that instead of money he would be getting something totally different. The romance starts off with a zing and lust. But can there be more for them or is it just for fun?

Holding his fated mate

I would highly recommend this book to all who love great romantic shifter tales. Gwynn had no idea that when her father picked her up it would be to use her as collateral for a gambling debt. Aaron thought he was just at the location to pick up money for the person he was working for so that he could get back the deeds to his family land. Can this rogue wolf and abandoned woman find happiness together even though deceit has brought them together can love give them hope for the future.
