Matcha Do About Murder

Rate this book
Pebble Cove is home to more than just fishermen, Victorian houses, and coastal beauty. It also harbors long running feuds and buried secrets.

When a local man drops dead after drinking a matcha tea latte, Rosemary Woodmere suspects foul play. As a witness to the murder, she's called in for questioning.

At the station she meets a new ghost and learns the town's police force has a dark past when it comes to covering up murder. She might be off the hook, but can she let the case go when she fears the police might be repeating history?

To make things even more difficult, Rosemary's life with ghosts is getting complicated. While she searches for the truth about how Asher died, Rosemary attempts to help a local spirit encountering her own difficulties with her death. And while a little ghostly help might give Rosemary a leg up in this case, will it be enough when she comes face to face with the real killer?

Eryn Scott is the author of heartwarming cozy mysteries. Her novels feature close friendships and strong families because those are the most important things in her life -- a little humor doesn't hurt either.

She calls the Pacific Northwest home and doesn't plan on changing that anytime soon. Eryn loves to hike, horseback ride, knit, ski, and read. She believes musicals are the greatest thing since lattes, even though she's not particularly good at singing or dancing -- hey, a girl can dream, right?

Her first cozy mystery series, Pepper Brooks, is based on some of the greats in classic literature. Each book features a different author from Shakespeare to Austen. Eryn's newest series is set in a little town called Stoneybrook. The Stoneybrook Mysteries follow local jam-maker Hadley James as she solves mysteries in her town's year-round farmers market. From deceased knitters to sabotaged florists, these crafty citizens keep Hadley and her twin brother, a deputy sheriff, on their toes. Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries are great for readers who love a hint of paranormal with their mysteries. These books feature a tiny town tucked between craggy coastline and rocky shores with quirky characters of both the living and non-living variety. Look for new releases from all three of these series in 2022 as well as Eryn Scott's new cozy series.

Get a cuppa and settle down.

Love this series so far. The town of Pebble Cove has many fun and interesting characters. The book itself is a murder mystery with a paranormal sub plot in the form of a ghost who “lives” with our main character.

Read in order for full enjoyment.

This series is so great! I really enjoy the pacing in that the main character, Rosie, has a tea shop in a small town to run, she can see and interact with ghosts, and she is an amateur sleuth. Basically, there is never a dull moment in Pebble Cove!

Rosemary is concerned that things are slow at her tea shop. She decides to go to into the downtown area of Pebble Creek to check out her competition, Jolene. Jolene serves some yummy bakery products, but Rosemary's cup of Earl Gray tea is oversteeped and hardly drinkable. While sitting at the cafe table, Rosemary observes some interaction between Jolene, her ex and his girlfriend. The girlfriend complains that her matcha drink tastes like grass and exchanges drinks with boyfriend Murray. After just a couple sips, Murray falls over and dies, after attempts to revive him fail. Was Jolene seeking revenge and the drink was meant to kill the girlfriend or is someone else responsible ?
MATCHA DO ABOUT MURDER is the second in author Eryn Scott's Pebble Cove series. The reader definitely needs to read STEEPED IN SUSPICION, the first novel to avoid being lost and confused. I found that I enjoyed this second story even more than the first. The author developed the small town of Pebble Creek even more fully as well as giving more background to Rosemary and her "spirit" friend, Asher. Rosemary continues to do more research on Asher's background to find out why he is still around more than 100 years after his death. The reader also meets some rather quirky characters and other "spirits" along the way, too.
Eryn Scott knows how to weave the elements of a cozy mystery into a fabulous blend of suspense with surprises. I look forward to the third trip into Pebble Creek soon.

This is the second book in the A Pebble Cove Teahouse mystery series by Eryn Scott.

There is a throughline from the previous book that manifests in this one. It is concerning Asher and his quest to have Rosie find out what happened to him in death. Apparently, ghosts don’t really remember their death day too well. And when Rosie uncovers a truth she doesn’t want to reveal to her friend, she asks her mother to investigate further.

The whodunit is surrounding a man who dies in the competing tearoom run by Jolene. I like the compromise the two come up with in this book in order to make their businesses successful.

Asher does a lot of disappearances in this book too which makes me sad since he is definitely my favorite character in the series. But I understand his absences.

I can’t wait until the next book comes out. Definitely a great new series I suggest you check out! I am obsessed with it.

If you love a good cozy mystery, definitely check this one out.

I very much enjoyed Steeped in Suspicion (the first book in this series); however, I LOVED this second book! I love watching the character progression in Rosemary and Asher, I love their friendship, and I love all of the ghosts, I mean spirits, and the live human characters in Pebble Cove. I read most of this in one sitting (as I did the first) because it's so readable and I had to know what happened. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

This book was so easy to read and I just couldn't put it down! It was so good! I think that it was even better than the first one. Rosemary and Asher are great! I have loved the whole cast of characters. I can't wait to read the next one!

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Needs to be read in order. I wish I knew that. Read the first book to this series before this one. I did notice a lot of repeating which is a turnoff.

4.5 Star review Matcha Do About Murder (Pebble Cove Tea house Mystery #2) by Eryn Scott

It was fun being back in Pebble Cove. This is the second book in the latest series from Eryn Scott and I could not wait to dive in to it. I love stories about small towns, add in mystery and a few ghosts and I knew I was in for an entertaining read with Matcha Do About Murder.

Rosemary Woodmere inheritance her Victorian tea house from her grandmother and is trying to get the business back up and running. Having successfully solved her grandmother's murder with the help of Asher the coast, they are up for the challenge when another murder happens right n front of them.

The more she learns, the more danger she is in and Rosemary leans on the spirits to guide her. There were numerous twists and turns within the story and I found Rosemary easy to relate to and I liked her. I really enjoyed this cozy mystery and am looking forward to seeing where Ms. Scott takes the series.

Narrator Jennifer Jill Araya did a great job bringing this story to life and made this an entertaining listen.

3.5 stars, rounded up

This is the second book in the series, and I'm still not sure about it. I love the coastal setting and have no trouble imagining the small town, the scenic beauty and the diversity of the characters. That said, I haven't made up my mind yet about Rosemary, the MC. She seems to jump to conclusions without facts to back them up, but she's also quick to pass information on to the police, which is a plus.

Unless he's a character from the first book, we didn't get to know the victim before he was killed, so there weren't many obvious suspects right from the start. There were several red herrings along the way, which complicated things. I wasn't surprised at one person's involvement in the crimes, but the real culprit was very unexpected. I don't know if clues weren't in the story at all or if I missed those clues along the way, but at least I got the motive right.

The next book from this series is in my Kindle library, but I'm not sure how soon I'll get around to reading it.

Fun Cozy Mystery

The 'new girl' in Pebble Cove has started to realize the residents of Pebble Cove may be talking about her, but not because they are sorry for the girl who discovered she had leukemia as a girl. They are far more interested in the fact that she solved a murder and brought down a drug ring! Now with the death of another resident right under her nose, another resident asks for her assistance to solve the murder. Rosemary's relationship with the resident ghost takes a turn as she discovers more about his background while trying to uncover the truth behind his death a century earlier. Rosemary learns more about herself while helping others, becoming more of an outgoing Rosie than the retiring and nervous Rosemary. A well written and entertaining read, with a sprinkle of ghostly characters to add to the brew.

Love how this story is progressing.

I love that the ghosts have their own story line that progresses through out these books. In this installment we get to know many of them better, and discover what is holding a few of them back from passing over.

That being said, I am concerned with Rosemary's mental state. As she spends the majority of her people interacting time, talking to ghosts. If this isn't addressed or keeps up throughout the entire series it's going to make me really depressed for her as a person. She went from being under her mom's supervision to now, and adult woman that only communicates with the dead. With the caveat that I am thankful for no insta-love type plot line happening. These two books are giving a great deal of insight into everyone that lives in Pebble Cove. I just want Rosemary to have some living friends!

The writing in this book is way more flowery than the first book, there are metaphors so often in this story, it starts to pull me out because I can't stop laughing at how ridiculous they are. Not sure why they increased here, but hoping they decrease for book 3.

The mystery for this book was great, I kept rethinking who was really the guilty party, because I kept telling myself, 'there was no way it would be that person' for a few people. The end layout explains a lot about the towns history. I like that these books seems to be solving a cold case, with the current case. Gives more complexity to the town, and the hidden secrets that are berried there.

Rosemary isn't great at everything she touches and I really appreciate that. Her struggles in running the teashop make her character relatable. I look forward to seeing how she grows as a business owner in the next installments.

This is the second book in the Pebble Cove Teahouse Mystery series, and I have to say, Eryn Scott does not disappoint. She once again delivers us the perfect cozy, small town murder mystery with a paranormal twist. The characters in this series have unique motivations, and we get to follow each of their stories to see their growth and development. I was also truly shocked by the plot twist ending, and likely never would have been able to guess who the killer was. If you are looking for a cozy mystery novel that will keep you guessing, this is the series for you.

This series just gets better and better ,The characters and town are so well written that I want to make my way to Pebble Cove and go to Tea at the Sea for an Iced, Iced Tea (and yes the Iced is plural on purpose) and wait to feel the chill of Asher as he sits by me as I talk with Rosemary at the big table,

In book 2 Tea at the Sea is quiet. unusually so, but Jolene has reopened Pebble Cove Tea Company the tea shop in the centre of town. Rosemary decides to check out the opposition, Rosemary is not vindictive she does not harbor any resentment, surely there can be room for both businesses in town, As she sits down drama ensues!! Another death and Rosemary is right there, with the Chief of Police looking at her like a suspect ....again.
So gathering her unique PI's together she decides to investigate herself, buthas she pushed her ghostly friends to far

A really good strong story with Rosie meeting more residents of Pebble Cove both alive and spiritual, fleshing her out more as a character and the towns residents, there are plenty of red herrings and fun along the way.

I can highly recommend this series it is really good and I look forward to seeing where it goes

Matcha Do About Murder is the second book in the series and just as enjoyable as the first book. First of all, I really loved the title. In this book a man dies after drinking a cup of matcha tea latte. When she goes to the police station for questioning, she learns they often cover up murders. She can't let this happen again so she tries to solve the mystery herself. Again, the characters were very likable. There were many twists and turns and the story kept me interested all the time. We learn a bit more about Asher and meet some other ghosts. I also love how the author describes things, and it's still fast-paced. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes to read cozy mysteries.

The burning question is "When is Book 3 due?" (hopping impatiently up and down!) Rosie is definitely settling down, in Pebble Cove, in her tea shop, in her life, finding herself and gaining confidence. As her competition re-opens her tea shop on the other side of town, Rosie decides to check out the competition. She did not bargain on finding herself in the middle of another murder, and having the finger of suspicion pointed at her, the new girl.

I cannot get enough of this series, totally compulsive reading and can hardly wait for the next instalment. Neither book ends on a cliff hanger as such, but it just leaves you wanting more. I would recommend start at book 1 and totally enjoy yourself!

I knew I was going to love this series part way through the first book, and this second one is even better! Not being into paranormal made me unsure but I like the bit of humour added to the drama and the ghosts are amazing characters. It adds to the story that there is a mystery to the ghost history. I'd really love to be able to go for a visit to this town with it's quirky residents. I was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review. This series will definitely be a 'read again' group of books.

Rosemary goes to the Pebble Cove Tea Company to see what the competition is doing. She talks to a man who dies of poisoning. Since the Chief is not Rosemary’s fan and seems to be enamored with one of the obvious suspects, Rosemary enlists Asher’s help find the truth. I got into this story from the beginning, having enjoyed book 1 in the Pebble Cove mystery series and especially liked Rosemary’s character development about trauma in her past.

Another murder mystery with Rosemary, coupled with my favorite drink ever, and I get another excellently written cozy mystery

The pacing of the book is not too slow. We get new information every step of the way about the murder, and coupled with some conflict within the ghosts, made for a compelling and interesting book.

The characters are still just as lovable in this book as they were in the first book. With the introduction of Jolene as a new friend of Rosemary's, we got to see their friendship develop in a very genuine way. I love them both, and I love their dynamic with one another. I was very glad to see Rosemary have a friend who is her age and who is not a ghost.

I love that in this book, we get a lesson, and all of the characters benefited from that lesson in the best ways possible. I would like it if this became a concurring theme for this series, since we also got a lesson in the first book about opening up and allowing new people to step into your life.

I like how the mystery in this book has significantly gotten more complicated. The murderer isn't someone from the town that we know, but. It was quite unpredictable, and I wasn't able to call out anyone that might be guilty, but that's okay, since the murderer isn't introduced until the finale in this book. There was a final showdown between Rosemary and the murderer, which I enjoy, because there wasn't anything last book

I love the initial setup for the next book. Very kind of Eryn Scott to give me some background information before heading into the third book of the series.

In general, I think this is a really great book. It doesn't suffer from the curse of being worse than its predecessor, and I'm very excited to continue reading the entirety of this series.
