Rate this book
One year has passed since the witch was killed for good. Everyone in town has moved on with their lives and started to forget all about that little house on the hill in the woods.

But Halloween approaches, and evil always returns...

The witch may be dead, but she has family. Family that finds out what the town did to her. Family that will make sure they never live to see another Halloween again.

Carmen and Tommy go out on Halloween to enjoy the spooky holiday when disaster strikes. This time the witches take the adults and cut the town off from the outside world, leaving Tommy and his friends alone to figure out how to save their families and stop the witches once and for all.

But the witches have a plan in store for them, one more terrifying than they can imagine. A mysterious timer counts down to midnight, and when it reaches zero, nobody will be safe...

The Witches Of Halloween Haven sadly didn’t quite live up to my (Halloween loving) expectations after reading the first one and enjoying it more than this. Still unsure if this is supposed to be a YA series, as it does have shades of Goosebumps, Fear Street etc. like the first book did.
The descriptions and characterisation of the witches isn’t the best either. They feel very one-note and repetitive. I wish that it had focused on building them up more.
The setting of Halloween Haven is perfect for this time of the year however, and the fast pace narrative makes this easy to get through. The premise is so intriguing too!

On Halloween, evil always returns.
The evil witch may be dead, but she has family who wants to avenge her… Just as the town has started to move on from the events of last year.
With the adults all now taken away - a young boy named Tommy, and his friends, must work together to figure out how to save their families and stop these witches - for good! But the witches don’t plan on making this easy for them. As the clock ticks on towards midnight, nobody is safe…! 🎃

Carmen, Tommy and their father Robert are back!! Yes, the witch from the first book....had FAMILY!! And they are going to wreck Havoc on the town.....beware they mean business! And they are hungry; FOR KIDS!

Well, it is a year later and Halloween is approaching....again. For a new public transportation bus driver only his 3rd day, he picks up not 1, but 3 very strange, smelly and creepily ugly 'old women' that he knows is not from this small town........ When the first just looks at him and hands him a slimy, and very old large gold colored coin, he tells her that this is not accepted for payment, she looks at him and just makes him change his thought. The next two, board and move to the back of the bus. Upon the smell and mood changing, the other passengers decide that they do not want to ride on this bus.. Would you?

This is what starts the continuing story of the Witch of Halloween House, and the story was not as captivatingly fun, and suspenseful and action packed as the first one. But, it is still a fun, but kind of tedious at times halloween themed story. The biggest problem I had with this one, is once that the kids are rapidly disappearing and no one is seeing where they are going, the witches are putting them in 'another realm' that is right in front of, but not visible to the other townsfolk. There is a cheesiness sub plot where the witches put a 'neon red looking' dome over the town.....Hmmm? now where have we heard of that before? I felt at times that Degordick had lost his full speed ahead creep factor with the direction that the 3 sister witches went and what they had planned for Tommy and his friends....it could have really been creepy and scary, it was not. I gave the final rating a 🔪🔪🔪 and a Half stabby, rounding it to a non deserved 4. The repeat plot lines of the whole 'cauldrons and whatnot' got to be boring........darn.

"The Witches of Halloween Haven" (2019) is unputdownable. This story is not only a deepening of the first, it also shows a strong development of writer. This pageturner is not just about friendship. It is also a wonderful story about collaboration.
This second part of the series goes deeper into the theme of "The Witch of Halloween House". In addition to the epic struggle between good and evil, the development of some friendship is an important topic. Tommy in particular has to deal with this theme. Which yields some moving, harrowing and intense passages.
From the point of view of friendship, cooperation is an important motive. This applies to both the protagonists and the antagonists. Everyone has their own motives, including revenge, defense, and yet the basic rudder is about a strong family-friendly relationship.
And the structure of the book challenges the reader more. "The Witches of Halloween Haven" consists of thirty-one chapters, which involves a strong variation with regard to the place of action. This in combination with the visual writing style makes the reader see the story as a film.
Moreover, Peter becomes even more mysterious. This character comes in the first part of the series as a kind of anti-hero in the story. In this part he provides some exciting reading moments, so I want to know more about him. Somehow he is just as scary as the witches.
The witches are excellent horror. Each of these macabre women has a passage that is visually horrific. Chapter four has a wonderful example of this with regard to the sturdy witch. "A juicy earthworm slipped between her fingers and she squeezed it with gluttenous zeal. She slurped and licked and the worm was gone, and she then chewed crickets. "(P.30) This passage could be a scene from an episode of" Monsters "(1988-1991). DeGordick goes further with the fear symbolism here than in the previous book. And I enjoy that! It shows to me that he has more to offer than he has shown so far and that this development is continuing.
So I can heartily recommend this book to all readers who love Halloween. This pageturner about friendship and cooperation is great. #thewitchesofhalloweenhaven #jeffdegordick

This book was a lot of fun. I dont know if its YA or not but its perfect for everyone seeing as theres nothing gory and no cursing etc. I did not know there was a first book so I did miss a number of references because of it but it can also work as a stand alone. It was a short book but I still felt like there were a lot of times when the story sounded like it should be over but just kept going... but It is still a fun halloween read.

After really enjoying the first book last year in October, I knew I had to read this one this year!

This one reminded me a bit of Hocus Pocus and definitely had a lot of action. It also seemed a bit creepier than I remember the first one being.

Overall it's a great follow up that is a must during Halloween season.

A little fun Halloween adventure that continues one year later from the first book. The plot was not as captivatingly fun, suspenseful and action packed as the first one, but it was still okay. It felt a lot more cheesy than anything.

This was my first experience with Jeff G. He could easily become the next Stephen King. I Loved the story.

This was a Halloween adventure to remember! If you thought the first one was good, this one is even better. It's filled with a lot more spooks and nonstop action. It'll drive you crazy, but in a good way, as you desperately try to figure out how in the world Tommy's crew is going to stop the witches. I dare say this story is kind of Halloween Kills-esque, and what a coincidence that one of the main characters is named Tommy! Those of you who know John Carpenter's Halloween know what I'm talking about. There are a lot of resemblances and possibly homages to the film(s). I can't help but feel that it was DeGordick's intention to give a little salute to the franchise.

Truly, reading this last book in the series was somewhat bittersweet. These books take me back to my childhood days where every day was like a rollercoaster, and when Halloween felt golden!

This was a very fun book to read at Halloween time. I thoroughly enjoyed it (and I am 60 years old!). Very well written. I recommend to anyone, young and old. (Would be a great movie!)
