Fintech is challenging banks and squeezing all our financial transactions onto a mobile screen! Should we be worried?
We make payments via PayPal or Paytm, shop on Amazon or Flipkart, book accommodation on Airbnb or Oyo and call a cab using Uber or Ola apps. The big tech companies are taking care of all our finances virtually while new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), blockchain, big data, 5G and quantum computing promise to raise a new storm in the future of finance. Fintech Future is the story of technology disrupting finance―from coin to bitcoin, banknote to cloud and stodgy old banks to AI―viewed from the perspective of whether it helps make the world a better place.
An excellent comprehensive text on future of Fintech - particularly from the Indian context. As the book released around April 2020, the facts and data presented are very up-to-date at the point of writing this review.
Fintech books are either jargon filled or low on specifics or written to get consulting, but this book by a finance professional and entrepreneur is rich with examples. I read the ebook. The author explains how money is about trust, transaction costs and based on architecture, with examples across USA, China and India(the 3 main economies by 2030). Unusually, the author explains in depth about inclusion, poor getting low yield but high transaction cost etc. The links are good but more resources/upskilling references would have been good -Some key points include that Technology should assist in better evaluation of credit risk, when the same is not easily available by the traditional methods or the traditional methods anyway need an overhaul as they have not predicted many crises despite their best efforts. Technology should also allow banks to monitor and mitigate credit risk after the loan is given for a factory to ensure that the money is not going into a fancy car for an aspiring entrepreneur that turned out to be a charlatan. The big question at this stage is whether the technology entering finance will help clean up the clogged arteries, caused by inefficient resource allocation and outdated credit decision-making that restrict the world of finance today. -If one were to see common themes across this period, they would be dematerialization, miniaturization, personalization, connection, intelligence and prediction.
The book is dotted with references making sure to mention each one precisely. This helps the reader get in depth knowledge about a particular topic. It traces the birth of money via barter; its evolution to currency and banks; how technology has integrated with banking; and what's in store for the future as technology tries to supplement humans. Although the book provides decent insights, it leaves the reader with a feeling of generalization across few topics. Also, it leaves behind a taste of poor editing.
The future of finance is undeniably digital, and FinTech is at the heart of it. We're moving beyond just mobile banking, now it’s about AI-driven insights, real-time payments, and hyper-personalized financial tools. I’ve worked with fintech software development services from https://kindgeek.com/ and what impressed me most was how fast they could build secure, scalable solutions that actually feel human. People want financial tools that are as intuitive as their favorite apps. Whether it's budgeting, investing, or paying a friend back, convenience and trust go hand in hand.
I think it’s too early to talk about the future of financial tech and what we’ll have access to, because honestly it feels like we still need to figure out the current tech first. There are some great specialists out there who do UI/UX design, including in the fintech space https://www.lazarev.agency/industries... , but there are still way too many apps and products that are just hard to use.
I purchased this book from amazon to learn more about Fintech as I am currently working as a UI/UX designer in a Fintech company and I must say that this book really helped me to understand how fintech work and the evolution of finscape ( financial landsacape of USA, INDIA and China) and its ecosystem.
