Hemlock Lane

Rate this book
A new dark fantasy trilogy from author, Ellen DuganWelcome to Hemlock Hollow, a little town tucked deep within the Ozark mountains where Witches, Lycans and the Fae have quietly existed with mortals for nearly two hundred years…Single mother Daphne Hart only dreams of living an ordinary life. Although her mother is a Witch, her father is mortal and Daphne ended up with no magickal talents whatsoever. Neither a part of the supernatural community, nor considered wholly mortal, Daphne has still made her own way. She owns, and successfully runs, the local ice cream parlor on Hemlock Lane. It is a very popular spot with not only the tourists, but also the mortals and the various races of supernatural beings that live in the hollow. Ashton Lowell, a mysterious, yet attractive newcomer to town, has moved into the old house right down the road from Daphne. While her new neighbor certainly is sexy, he’s been acting very strangely. One minute he’s aloof, the next he’s charming and kind...and despite herself, Daphne is drawn to Ashton. Daphne’s vanilla world is further shaken when she discovers a body dumped behind her place of business. However, this grisly death is only the start of a chilling string of events. Now all the races who once lived peacefully together in the hollow are beginning to turn on each other. Everything she once believed is challenged, and nothing will ever be the same again. With her world flipped upside down, Daphne is left with no choice other than to fight to protect herself and her young daughters as the dark legend of her town’s origins are revealed to be horrifyingly true.

She knows her lingo

Its a pet peeve of mine and has really nothing to do with the story, she said magazine in not clip and I tell you what! I will never read (Ready Player One) again because that author didn't know his ligo. He said clip instead of magazine. She won me over just for that❤

A great new series

I was looking for a new, fun and light series to read and have really liked Ellen Dugan's other series. This might be my new favorite! The characters are interesting and intriguing and there is a lot going on in the story that makes you stay up late to see what happens next.

I started and finished this book today. I have been a fan of Ellen Dugan’s work since before she ever started fiction, and loved her fictional works from the start. This one though? New favorite. My previous favorite had been Legacies of Magick but Hemlock Lane is fantastic. Truly fantastic as in “seeming more appropriate to the imagination than to reality; strange or exotic.”
The book ensconced me in its world and it’s characters and time passed around me quickly while I turned pages. I finally stopped thinking about the chaos around me in the “real world” (can we even call it that anymore?) and got to live in fantasy. I’m forever grateful to Ellen for that reprieve and cannot wait for the second title to be released.

I read this in a few hours over a couple of days. It's great for light, fun reading! Good characters and some good action. It does take a while to get moving... there's a lot of set-up. But the tradeoff is solid world-building. It all feels very realistic, like this bit of magic could exist in our world. I've read the second book, too... I do wonder why these are broken into a trilogy. After reading the second book, and now waiting on book 3, it feels more like a continuous story that could have been one, 600-page novel rather than breaking it up into three books.

A fun read.

I have adored Ellen's non fiction books for a long time. They are perfect for combining magical information and knowledge with light hearted fun and ease. I recommend them to others all the time. Just as with the nonfiction, her fiction is entertaining, easy to follow, and a fun read. Perfect escapism from the "real" world, they combine with a cup of tea or glass of wine to relax and enjoy some down time. I recommend her books to almost everyone. They're worthwhile and fun to read.

Fantastic

I truly enjoyed reading Hemlock Hollow and recommend it to everyone. Daphne is a heroine in her own right and she doesn't bat an eye when it comes to protecting her girls, she even pulls a gun on the Hunter. Well worth picking it up for a read, it was very hard to put it down!! Can't wait til Book 2 comes out!!!! Thank you, Ellen!!! I love your books

A hollow in where supes and humans live together. But, some one is wanting upheaval between the two. A few dead people turning up and everyone is ready to blame the supes. Willing to enter a war based on accusations. A little romance thrown in and you have a perfect story.
