Cecelia Scott walked away from Max Maylor three years ago, but tonight she's making her way back to him. As Cecelia weaves her way through New York's busy streets on a near-perfect September night, her mind travels back to the relationship that defined her and the man who may very well be the love of her life.
Cecelia met Max on the smoky deck of an average party on an average night. Precisely one spilled drink later, Cecelia's life would never be the same. The years that followed were as picture perfect as Cecelia could've ever imagined, right up until they weren't.
Intent on forgetting all about Max, and the secret that tore them apart; Cecelia has spent the past three years pulling the messy pieces of her life back into their rightful places. But no amount of success has ever erased the question – had leaving Max been the right thing to do?
This book was a quick read but it was not lacking by any means! The sweet story about love & loss & trying to figure it all out. Definitely recommend. I’m looking forward to more by Allyson Souza!
I can pretty much promise you’ll be hooked on the first page. Allyson Souza writes in such an elegant way- it’s almost poetic at times.
This book chronicles the relationship between Cecelia and Max, who meet for a few minutes at a party their sophomore year of college. It’s told in two narratives, the first being Cecelia as she walks toward the bar where her best friend’s engagement celebration is happening, and where she’ll inevitably see the almost-groom’s best friend: Max. It’s been three years since they’ve broken up, and as she walks she reflects on their relationship. Cue the second narrative, where we read it as it unravels from the beginning. There’s such suspense over learning what happened and how they’ll react to one another that it’s difficult to put the story down. My heart ached and broke and swooned for them. And I loved it all.
