The Chocoholic's Guide To Getting It On

Rate this book
Food journalist and chocoholic, Melanie Peters, lands a plum assignment for the top-rated Sexology website: Uncover what makes Sommer Chocolates so lust-worthy. Determined to get her hands on the coveted bonbons despite a year-long waitlist, she camps out on the doorstep of the world-famous chocolatier whose creations are reportedly “better than sex.” Melanie has never been satisfied by a man—but chocolate never lets her down.

Maksim von Sommer has recently gone from international playboy to castle-bound recluse. He’s fending off loan sharks, and licking his wounds after a disastrous romance. Rumor has it he’s lost his sweet touch—the famous S Chocolate has disappeared from his signature bonbon collection. Maks can’t leave his castle without tripping over reporters. Or make that, one intrepid reporter. Maks is intrigued when he realizes the woman who spent a rainy night on his doorstep has literally written the book on the craft chocolate process he is secretly studying.

Melanie’s on a mission to uncover the source of Sommer Chocolates’ appeal. Is it the bonbons? Or will the sexy chocolatier teach her that the sensual indulgences are even more exciting than tasty sweets?

The Chocoholic’s Guide to Getting It On is the first in The Lust List series, which features the stories behind Sexology’s famous list of things most lusted after by women, such as chocolate, billionaires, fame, and of course, orgasms.

"All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt." - Charles M. Schulz

My Rating : 🌟🌟🌟.75

My thoughts:
This story was funny, sexy, romantic & cute all-in-1 with a healthy dose of chocolate added to it. It had an overdramatic but funny heroine & a dark, handsome & mysterious hero. I liked their chemistry but felt the romance developed too fast in a short span & felt a little too cheesy at times. But overall I liked the interactions between the two & with the other characters. The Chocoholic part of the title was what pulled me into the book & was what made the story so much better. There were quite a few descriptions of drool worthy chocolates that made me wish that I could dive into the book to have a taste of them all. Such books must come with warnings to be ready with chocolates beforehand because it had me craving chocolates so badly at times that I had to make some for myself at home. 😁😋

I liked the setup of the story which was in an old quaint village. It just gives the story a homey feeling. Overall the book was a light fun read which Rom-com lovers will definitely enjoy. ❤

I get glued to the story at first and read it throughout the night. It's a romantic and intriguing story. Learned so many new words from the book where I seldom saw it from other books that I have read. The transition of the story was very engaging. I love it.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of The Chocoholic’s Guide To Getting It On.

I rate this book 3.5 stars, really wish it gave that option.
It started out a little slow. From there it turned to good then witty. The more you read into the book the more stuff spilled out. It’s like the grandmas bag from Halloween Town, there was a never ending supply well in this case there was a never ending supply of secrets and who’s that what’s this so on and so forth. Just so much stuff was wrong with Mr. Sommer. If this book was a dating show it would the show Baggage from GSN.

This book wasn’t all bad now. I did learn something really interesting I did not know. The whole snozzberry thing. Now that was a eye bulge And a laugh out loud moment.

Thanks to netgallery for the free arc.

The chocoholic's guide to getting it is on is as fun as it's title sounds. It's a romance novel that is centered around chocolate. There's really nothing to not love about this book, it is fun and fluffy and oozed with descriptions of delicious chocolate. The characters are super heartwarming and quirky especially Melanie. I loved the sarcastic conversation Maks has with Melanie and how the writer could potray the chemistry between them with the weird conversations that they have. If I had to pick a favourite character I did choose Jeeves, Maks butler, his loyalty towards the Sommer family and especially Maks was really lovely.
The book is really light and really easy to read. It was pretty nice to see the author concentrating on the details of the chocolate and how she didn't let the chocolate overpower the book and created a perfect blend between the story and chocolate.

Reading The Chocoholic's Guide To Getting It On is the closest thing you can get to a chocolate orgasm, because the description of Maks’ bonbons will make you moan more than any romantic scene. Melanie, journalist for Sexology and chocolate specialist, decides to go and discover why people are raving about Sommer Chocolates, and especially the famous S Chocolate. Little did she know that she would end up meeting the sexy chocolatier in person and be invited into his castle… This story is super sweet, even sweeter than chocolate, the idea behind the book is so well thought of. I have adored every scene about chocolate and Melanie’s article. The only downside would be the romance aspect, I thought the romance between the two main characters was a bit rushed and cliché, but the end was really cute.

Melanie Peters is a savvy food journalist currently following a story on sex worthy chocolates. Unfortunately for her, her own expertise is shoddy on the sex and heavy on the chocolate. As she navigates the chaotic world of famous chocolatier Maksim Von Sommer, she is thrust into an unexpected world of bingo biddies in beads, midnight shoot outs and a secretive town full of mystery. Can she save the chocolatier without losing herself?

An interesting take on the reclusive billionaire theme. When journalist Melanie peters gets the job of interviewing chocolatier Maksim von Sommer, she is excited for two reasons. First, this may be her only opportunity to sample the ultra exclusive summer chocolates. Secondly, her grandmother has told her for many years the story of how she had a fling with the elder Sommers and somewhere in the castle there’s a picture of her. Marlene would like to get proof for her grandmother to shut up the doubting old biddies in her nursing home.
When Melanie gets to Germany she discovers that both tasks are going to be a lot harder than she thought. The towns people are very protective of Maks and unwilling to disclose much information. The one store that sells the chocolates has a year long waiting list to get them. Getting into the castle isn’t gonna be any easier as Marlene literally gets the door shut on her foot when she tries to get in to see Maks. Eventually her persistence pays off and he agrees to let her interview him. As time goes on Marlene learns more about Maks and his business and finds herself attracted to the mysterious chocolatier. Max discovers that Marlene knows a lot about chocolate and Is attracted to her independent spirit.
As the romance deepens an underlying threat becomes stronger and Marlene discovers the truth about her grandmother.. this story definitely has twists and turns both in the personal relationship between Melanie and Max and the professional one. You definitely don’t want to read this while you’re hungry because the descriptions of chocolate will send you right over the edge. Maks and Marlene are the main characters but there are several quirky supporting people including Jeeves, Maks’ butler, who seems to be a man of many unusual skills.
This book is the first book in a series and was definitely a fun read. I look forward to reading future books.

This book had ALOT going on: a beautiful quaint village in Germany, a reclusive chocolatier, a sex blog, a quirky journalist, steamy sex scenes, drive by shootings to name a few and let me say that 100% of it worked for me!

Melanie traveled to Germany to write a story for the Lust List and goes to all lengths to interview the mysterious Maks, Heir to the Sommer chocolate dynasty. Melanie also has a side mission for her Grandma. The story that ensues is salacious, dramatic, and full of witty banter between the two main characters.

I honestly didnt expect to get as wrapped up in this story as I did. ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 from me!

Melanie Peters is a food journalist and chocoholic who has been sent on the ultimate mission: identifying why Sommer Chocolates is as lust-worthy as it is, to have a limited supply and a waiting list of more than a year. The answer to that? Maksim von Sommer.

This book was everything I wanted and more-- A light read, with a good touch of romance, an intriguing backstory from both of the characters, and the ultimate detailed description of chocolate.

3.5 stars. Wow. This book had so much drama and so many secrets. It was quite the ride.

I expected this to be a fun, lighthearted story about chocolate and love, but that's only sort of what I got. Melanie is a bean-to-bar snob and all of the details about her feelings about chocolate and how she tastes chocolate was a bit much for me to really care about. I definitely enjoy chocolate, but why does she have to hate anything that's not "perfect" dark craft chocolate? Maks makes these delightful bonbons that people spend a year waiting to buy. It definitely makes me wish I could try them! With all of the secrets each of them are hiding, it's a miracle that they actually managed to talk at all. I felt that some of the secrets came out a bit too easily, especially when you know that Maks has been burned before.

Outside of those problems, I really did enjoy their story and them getting to know each other both professionally and personally. I would also love to know more about Angus and the other writers for Sexology!

General info

Melissa, a food journalist, really wants to write a piece about the world famous, crazy expensive Sommer chocolates. She also really wants to prove that her grandmother is telling the truth about her younger days.
Maksim von Sommer is done with women, and with reporters. He has become a hermit who only works and tries to keep his family business afloat.
When Melissa appears at Maksim's front door he is not happy but she starts to grow n him. There's obviously some serious sexual tension between them and they really enjoy each other's company.
Add in a greedy ex, some thugs who want their money and the mysterious lost nudes and you've got yourself a story, this one.

Review

The general atmosphere of this book is great. Somehow it stays light and happy and romantic no matter what criminals or money hungry exes show up. There is always the atmosphere that Maks and Melissa would enjoy each other and possible fall in love, well, that is a given really. And I really like that. It makes the book positive and it made me happy when I was reading it.
The characters are also all great. Melissa, is a journalist who has seen life and has given up the chance of ever finding a guy who she can relax with enough to orgasm. She might be tough on the outside, but inside there is softness.
Maksim, a world famous chocolatier, has been hurt before. His trust has almost ruined the family business. He never wants to deal with romance ever again. Put Melissa and Maks together and you have a dream team. They learn to know each other and they learn to trust each other. This kind of made book ending a little predictable, but that is not always a bad thing. Together they try to create chocolate that would be mind-blowing and that would save Maks's family business. During that journey they fall in love and it is beautiful.

All in all this book is a happy and light read and it made me happy when reading it. It showcases a beautiful love story that keeps growing even after the ending. Melissa and Maks are two people who have gone through disappointments and loss in their lives and they truly deserve one another and their shared happiness. I truly recommend this book from the bottom of my heart.

Michelle is on a mission to write a lust worthy article on Sommer Chocolates. The only problem is there is a year long wait list to purchase the chocolate. After failing to secure a taste at the chocolate shop, Melanie decides to go straight to the source- Maksim con Summer. Make has a lot going on in his life and the last thing he needs is a journalist snooping around. Melanie is persistent and they start to spend time together.

It was had for me to get drawn into the story at first. However, I was hooked after Melanie met Maks. There were a lot of secrets unraveled throughout the story, and with each one you understood the characters a little better. I loved their story and how much they cared for each other, even though they both tried to convince themselves it was nothing more than a fling. The ending was great- all challenges were solved and there were no loose ends. I attached to the characters and would love to see what is next to them. My fingers are crossed for a sequel.

Such a cute book. I liked it a lot. Chocolate and sex - doesn’t get much better than that.

Loved the setting, the family secrets, the descriptions of the chocolate!

I was so excited to pick up The Chocoholic’s Guide to Getting It On as it sounded like the perfect summer rom-com, unfortunately, it let me down in both plot and writing. The premise of the story itself was strong but the execution of the plot and the writing style is something I could not get on board with. I found that the characters had the potential to have lots of dynamics but felt flat and the chemistry between them felt too instantaneous for any tension to rise between the characters. The characters desperately needed to be more fleshed out and the relationship between our Maksim and Melanie needs more than just lust and ‘issues’. I also had a hard time enjoying the author’s writing style, but that comes down to personal preference, unfortunately, I would suggest that you give this book a miss as there are so many other rom-com’s on the market that do it right.

This book was not as fun as it sounds. It was rather dull and clinical for a book set in a picturesque town, about whimsical chocolate and romance; the romance, in particular, never did anything for me. I hated one part in particular towards the beginning of their relationship, when Wow, so very passionate.

I didn't actively dislike the book, but I'm never going to think about it again. Not memorable in any way.

This a quirky story. She's a chocoholic and he's a chocolate maker. She wants to taste his chocolate but there's a year long waiting list. Honestly there's a lot of mini stories in the book. This book feels as though it will be a series and the author wants to fill in the background in a way with other characters. I do wish they would expand more on the grandmother aspect since it looks like there may be a funny story there. Jeeves is a stereotype in a good way. I enjoyed the humor and the romance . Its a quick read. I give this book a 3.5.

This was a fun book to read. There were some dangerous elements in the storyline, but the author did a good job of writing them light enough to be fun.

Melanie is a fun and quirky character and seems to balance the more serious Maks. With the other fun and entertaining cast I was highly entertained and had a lot of laughs.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC of this novel!

*2.5 stars*

This premise sounded so promising. We get to know the characters and I crave massive amounts of chocolate all of a sudden. The chocolate melts between my fingertips, the sexual tension between Melanie and Maksim is palpable. Then it gets weird, awkward and completely out of context and the piece of chocolate gets stuck in my throat.

The research for this German fictitious village was simply non-existent. The name Maksim is not even remotely a German name; then the story about this kid having cancer and Maks donating in this jar because they don't have insurance which infuriated me as people in Germany do have health insurance no matter their income. It just was a way to show how kind and generous Maksim was, but unfortunately the incorrectness overshadowed that.

There was no hot and steamy lemons anywhere to be found, only awkward scenes that felt forced and not like Melanie was in pursuit of claiming her sexuality rather than impressing Maksim.

Then the book took a turning point and I felt bombarded by plot points that didn't seem to have much to do with the romance part or any other part of the story other than to be shoved into these last fifty pages because the author wanted to add it whether it fit the story or not.

I did like how intimacy and the lack of orgasms on Melanie's side was portrayed and how it is important that both partners are able to tell the other their needs and at the end be satisfied.

Overall it was a quick and fun read about chocolate, small town charme and good sexual tension. But at the end the story didn't do it enough for me.

Found it a bit hard to suspend disbelief at first and get into this (I mean, she's a reporter and she doesn't know there is one-year waitlist for the product she needs to review? What about the research she must've done for the job?) But the characters have a way of working at you and eroding your defenses until you've got them under your skin and you really, really, really want to know what's going to happen to them. Also loved that I got to 'learn' quite a big deal about chocolate, and that was a lot of fun throughout

but honnestly, I didn't love it either.

I think I'm just tired of the woman who has never been satisfied by a man & he can figure it out right away thing.

Other than that, it was pretty good. All the chocolate talk made me really hungry.

Chocolate and romance are the ultimate duo. You get knowledge, romance and comedy in one place which is quite enjoyable.

The two main characters form great companionship from frequently spending time together, but some of their communication seems forced as it takes a while for either to let their guards down. The reason behind it is explained after previous experiences in relationships and bad dealings. Some of these interactions did make me cringe from 2nd hand embarrassment.

Overall a nice read; just not an immediate page turner. If you do not know much about chocolate hopefully you will gain some insight after reading.
