A decaying body is found floating in the Indian River near Canaveral Flats, Florida. Once again, Roger Pyles, a forensic expert recovering from personal and professional failures, is called upon for help in the case. The discovery of an unusual item in the corpse points to lost treasure, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. Bedlam breaks loose, and more crime victims are found. Can Roger solve the case without becoming a casualty himself?
Mr. Heavner’s books are always very engrossing. His characters have complicated lives but still manage to find the need to work out any differences to solve whatever mystery comes up. Murders and ancient 1755 Spanish sunken treasures are the focus here and I loved following all the twists and turns in the story. Bill Kenney as the Chief of Police of Canaveral Flats and his friend, Roger Pyles, the Professor, make a formidable team to solve the murders. And Roger even get a pet donkey in the process. Who could ask for more.
This was my second of Jay Heather's books. I chose the first book because it took place in Florida. I chose to read another because I liked the first one so much! Liked the second one just as much. So yeah I'm gonna read another. I would suggest this author ' s books without hesitation. Happy reading!
Grabber creatively writes great action plots with plenty of "meat" to enhance characters (human and animal) into recognizable individuals we feel that we know! Very entertaining throughout!
Was going to put a 4 star but changed my mind. All the history info was nice if your were intersted in that Me so-so. It started like it was going to be a good book. Toward the ending I didnt care for it at all. It was like plop end of the story. Ah, not much of a closure to me.
This is a great story. It has a bit of Florida history with pirates and buried treasure. It mentions my hometown , St.Augustine, which is always a plus with me. It also has a animals, mystery and humor. I'm looking forward to reading more by Jay Heavner.
