Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery #6

Ghosts Just Wanna Have Fun

Rate this book
Nothing puts a damper on a romantic Hawaiian honeymoon quite like a dead body.

A reality dating show is filming next door to our rental digs, and besides the giggly pool parties and late night soirees, things are tolerable. At least, until a contestants goes belly - and fabulous ball gown - up in the pool. Suddenly, our vacation suddenly takes a backseat to a murder investigation.

Chaos is unleashed on the quiet community, complete with a pesky paparazzi, brawling bachelorettes, and a bitter ghost hell-bent on revenge. It's impossible to relax, and I'm plunged into the hunt for the killer before someone else gets hurt.

At least I'm getting a tan.

3.5 stars rounded to 4 stars.

Ah, nothing says honeymoon quite like a murder and a dose of jealousy. Oh, but that's right, Scarlet doesn't live the life of a "normal" person.

My enjoyment with this book was a little less than it has been with all of the other books previously. The banter was still there but it felt like something was missing. I think it may have been because Scarlet for the most part isn't smack in the middle of the chaos.

This series has already sealed such a special place in my heart. I love these characters so much. 🥹

Almost caught up with it and I’m a little sad about that, but I do look forward to exploring Danielle Garret’s other worlds and characters!

Onto the next adventure with Scarlett & company. ❤️

Wowza! Another fun adventure with Scarlet and the Ghost Gang. This story takes place in Hawaii, on Scarlet and Lucas's honeymoon. But also the three Ghosties ties along. Flapjack, Hayward and Gwen tag along to the nice island. Alas island relaxation is not in the cards for Scarlet and Lucas as the neighbor reality show has a murder happen. Not to mention the ghost of the fallen contestant has some crazy ghost powers and terrorizing the bachelor. Now Scarlet and the gang is somewhat dragged into the fray to solve the mystery of who done it.

Romance Wise: Scarlet and Lucas are married and now trying to relax and be in love. They do have some spouts during the vacation. They are trying to enjoy the vacation but back to reality is looming upon them. Scarlet is undecided on where she wants to move. She gets a huge reality check from Flapjack but it doesn't really get super elaborated on. Gwen and Hayward are hitting a slump in their relationship. Gwen and Haywards likes differ and Hayward is a bit sad because he doesnt have the same interests as Gwen. This gets elaborated more in the story.

Mystery Wise: The mystery in the book is really good. Its spaced and not really a dull moment. Meaning there isn't that much filler to drag the story on. Scarlet at first is not wanting to get involved but slowly ends up getting involved. I was a bit against Scarlet in the beginning because It was like in previous book and the one before it she finds out she is a Spirit Shepard. She sorta takes a step back from doing that. Which to me was a tad confusing because in the previous books she tries to be a grow more into it, however part of the last book and this book it's like shes trying to get away from that. But I notice that she tries towards the middle and end to do the right thing. Im wondering how the next book will address that. I like how the book takes a break from Beechwood and goes to Hawaii.

All in all, it was a good story and a fun adventure with Scarlet and the Gang.

I can’t believe it’s been a year since we last got a story from Scarlet’s POV! Ghosts Just Wanna Have Fun starts sometime after the conclusion of the fifth Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery with Scarlet and Lucas on their Hawaiian honeymoon. They are staying at the huge private home of a producer friend of Lucas, and of course, the ghost trio of Flapjack, Gwen, and Haywood tag along to see the sites. Of note, a reality romance show is being filmed next door.

Ghosts Just Wanna Have Fun takes listeners on location and away from the Harbor. I enjoyed the new locale and loved seeing Scarlet and Lucas get some quality alone time. I like that, for the most part, Scarlet separates herself from the ghosts and focuses on her honeymoon and time with Lucas. There are a few tense moments for the pair, but they talk out issues, make apologies when necessary, and compromise when needed. I enjoyed seeing Scarlet mature in her relationships with Lucas, but also with the ghosts, not letting them dictate her life. That doesn’t mean Scarlet’s drive to investigate diminishes, it just looks a bit different and is more balanced.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery without a murder and a ghost! One of the contestants in the dating show dies and makes her ghostly appearance known to the ghost trio, who eventually bring concerns to Scarlet. There is a pretty good twist in the ghostly action this time, and I enjoyed the change up. Scarlet, with the help of her friends and Lucas, figure out whodunit and save the day.

Narration: As always, the Beechwood Harbor gang is brought to life through the performance of Amanda Ronconi, who consistently does a wonderful job. The Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries is voiced from the first person POV of Scarlet. Ms. Ronconi captures Scarlet’s kindness, generosity, and determination. But also convincingly voices her frustration when called for. Additionally, Ms. Ronconi gives each of the three primary ghost regulars distinct and appropriate voices, and her male voices are generally deeper and fitting.

Overall, Ghosts Just Wanna Have Fun is another fun adventure. The story has a good balance of mystery, romance, and ghosts. I love how things are progressing in Scarlet’s life - her love life, her powers, her time management.

My Ratings:
Story: B+
Narration: B+

Scarlet and Lucas are on their honeymoon in Hawaii accompanied by the ghostly trio who promised to not interfere at all. Scarlet is still struggling with moving to Seattle even to be with Lucas.
It’s a beautiful setting but right next door a reality dating show is being filmed. Although they can ignore most of what’s happening it’s hard to do when a murder is committed.
Even though the ghosts are staying away, they are also keeping Scarlet aware of what’s happening and when the ghost of the dead contestant takes over the bachelor’s body, she has to get involved.
This is a nice little mystery that has Gwen doing a lot of the work and just reporting back to Scarlet.
I feel sorry for Lucas, he can’t see or hear the ghosts but still gets involved, you can almost feel his frustration at times.
This book has some tension, humour, great characters, humour and character growth.

I really like this series and the characters, but my problem with this book was that the storyline was almost like an exact copy of the (now defunct I believe) tv show “UnREAL”, which was a sort of spoof of the real tv show “The Bachelor”. Except, obviously, for the ghost storyline.

I would hate Scarlett's honeymoon. Staying in a home next door to a reality tv show? No thanks. I enjoyed this story, but not as much as most of the others. Hopefully, Ms. Garrett writes more of these stories.

Sorry but it seems to have lost the zing, sparkle

A good read alright not the best as it seemed to have lost some of the zing from earlier stories.
The wedding went of splendidly and now she's enjoying her honeymoon. Lucas however isn't quite so enamoured to find that the ghostly trio have come with them. But the filming of a reality show next door gives them something and somewhere else to be. That is until one of the female contestants dies. Everyone thinks it's an accident until evidence is found to the contrary. Now the woman's ghost is running rampant. Possessing the bachelor and creating havoc. Drugs, ratings and an attempted suicide / murder. Will they find out what happened?
It really seemed to run out of steam and I must admit that i was expecting a more exciting ending.

Another great mystery!

Scarlett is on her honeymoon and enjoying life, when a murder happens right next door. Scarlett tries to stay out of police investigation, but Gwen, Hawthorne, and flapjack just can't help themselves. I hope Scarlett comes to her senses in the next book, by realising she doesn't want to sell her flower shop and move to Seattle. I highly recommend this book.

Very good.

Love these books by Danielle Garrett. This one was very entertaining and enjoyable. I am curious how the story will move forward now that Scarlett is planning to move away from Beechwood Harbor. Plus something is going on with Hayward and Gwen. Is he thinking of crossing over? Well hopefully the summer planned book answers the questions.

Cozy mystery with no bad language or "on scene" violence. Sex very subtly alluded to.

Nothing like a murder to ruin a honeymoon - poor Scarlet just can't catch a break! With a reality show filming in the house next door to their honeymoon location, there's no way she can't get involved when one of the contestants is killed. Another fun and entertaining read in the series! Love that Flapjack.

Audiobook Review
A honeymoon in a Hawaiian beech condo, how can that not be romantic? Erm, three ghosts, a live reality show next door, and a suspicious death for starters. I love the series and particularly in audio so I was excited that it keeps going after the happily ever after with more ghost capers and a smidge of romancing.

Ghosts Just Wanna Have Fun is the sixth of the Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries that work best in order because the personal and romantic plot threads that develop through the series.

Scarlet and Lucas have landed in a luxurious beach condo loaned out from a friend and they are set to have a relaxing and romantic honeymoon. They ignore the excitement next door and even the fact that Lucas isn't too thrilled to find Scarlet's ghost friends along, but they can't ignore the mysterious death followed by an angry ghost determined to have a very lively afterlife. So, solve her murder they must even if Lucas' patience starts to wear thin about Scarlet seemingly avoiding such matters as selling her shop or helping him pick a house in Seattle. Is the marriage doomed in its first week?

Ghosts Just Wanna Have Fun started out pretty iffy for me. I was not happy with Scarlet at all. She's been sandbagging for nearly a year of their engagement on preparing to move which she blames on work and the wedding, she puts her ghost friends and ghostly mysteries ahead of Lucas and even on their honeymoon. He had a right to call her on it and I thought it was telling that her ghost cat Flapjack gave her a similar calling out. Fortunately, she works through all that even as she is forced into the ghostly mystery when only her magic and ghost talent will save a deteriorating situation. Lucas backs her all the way even though he can't see or hear on the ghostly plain.

Unlike others in the series, this one doesn't start as a murder investigation though there are hints of foul play and Scarlet isn't in full crime-solving mode because she really does try to let the police do their jobs and even delegates to her ghost friends so that she can prioritize for Lucas and her honeymoon. She gets pulled in when the ghost pulls a move that a new ghost isn't usually capable of and she becomes a danger.

The backdrop of this mystery is a The Bachelor-style reality show and it was fun to get the behind the scenes since they were right next door and the ghosts kept them in the loop early on. It was as dramatic off scene as the producers tried to get on screen with the bachelor's ex there and also a contestant who is off the hook even beyond the others.

There's a side romance for Hayward and Gwen that has them drifting apart as she flutters about next door engrossed in the show and the people while completely ignoring the fact that Hayward wanted to spend time with her and not on a TV set. It comes to a head and isn't entirely resolved whether they are too opposite though there was a nice happy for now feeling.

Amanda Ronconi remains a fabulous series narrator. I got a kick out of all the women's voices she did with the contestants included and I didn't have trouble distinguishing them any more than Scarlet and Gwen. I say it every time, I think, but I love so much her Flapjack the sarcastic ghost cat voice though he has a few moments of seriousness that were great scenes.

After all the uneasy stuff and the ghost mystery, it ended in a good place. I look forward to seeing what comes next for Scarlet and the gang. Paranormal cozy mystery fans should give this series a try.

My thanks to Tantor Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review.

Although this one is shorter than the others it was still an enjoyable read. Im not one for reality TV dating shows but this book captures the essence of what they are about perfectly. I really want to go to Hawaii now after reading this one, but minus the dead body of course.

Hawaii, sun, surf and a dead body....

Scarlet and Lucas are making the most of their sun filled vacation, that is until a contestant from the reality dating show being filmed next door turn up dead in the pool. Now having to contend with sleazy paparazzi, a vengeful ghost and bickering bachelorettes, Scarlet needs to find out what happened before someone else gets hurt.

I literally don't think that Scarlet can go anywhere in the world without some kind of ghost shenanigans cropping up, maybe if her and Lucas stay in a cave for a vacation they might get lucky but i doubt it. Even if in the beginning she's determined not to get involved, you just know she'll end up investigating what happened and trying to find the truth, which is one of the things i love most about her.

And Lucas, he is literally the most patient man alive as he didn't realise the ghostly trio were with them until they arrived. I swear he needs to win some sort of medal for this alone. But the fact that he makes the best of the situation puts him in the total sweetheart category for me. Plus the banter between him and Scarlet is so adorablely cute.

Having her ghostly companions tag along probably isn't the best way to relax on a vacation but they are vastly entertaining and helpful when you need them to find out vital information without being seen. Gwen is definitely in her element with the reality show being filmed next door as she's the queen of gossip so not much slips past her. My feline with no filter Flapjack, is in tip top form with his sassy quips and endless requests for something fishy but even though he's a prickly pear his soft marshmallow side for Scarlet makes me all gooey inside. Love him.

I've only got to books to go so I'm off to read book 7 to see what's happening with the gang next. Again i can't recommend this series enough. 😁

TW: This book repeatedly mentions "starting a family" to mean having children. Since the couple is on their honeymoon and they do want to have kids, it is not unusual that this is in the book. However, if you happen to be particularly sensitive to the idea that having kids is both what makes a couple a family, and what naturally and easily happens for every couple who wants it- you may feel like throttling someone by the end of the book. Especially if you are hypothetically already reading the book while in a bad mood.

Other than personal issues, the book was good. Like the New Orleans book, it was strange to be out of Beachwood Harbor, but we had Gwen, Hayward and Flapjack with us (even though they'd been sternly told to leave the honeymooning couple alone and not to tell any local ghosts that Scarlet can see them). The Hawaiian honeymoon is beautiful and peaceful, other than the reality tv show filming next door. And the investigation of the death of one of the contestants. And someone from the paparazzi continually trying to sneak into the backyard of Lucas and Scarlet's borrowed house to get pictures of what's happening next door. And various ghost drama. I mean, mostly ocean waves and beautiful sunsets and sunrises... lol.
I am a little disappointed that we skipped over meeting Lucas and Scarlet's families. I mean, I'm sure they were there for the wedding and probably beforehand, but it didn't happen during the book.

Pick a Side, Scar!

I honestly cannot believe how Lucas puts up with Scarlet's constant distractions and problems! I'm telling you, a patient man like him won't be found in this world---well, not as long as Lucas has anyway. I think any normal person would have run for the hills after the second book in this series. But, I suppose thugs why we read books such as these - because we want to escape reality for a bit.
For now I am done with all the books in this series and am pleased to know I won't have to wait too much longer until the next book is released. I hope the next book won't have Scarlet ignoring her man as much as these last ones. I also wish the next book will allow Lucas to finally see the apparitions Scarlet talks to every day. Like their marriage bonds him to her and all of a sudden he has the sight, too. That's be cool! That'd help him understand more the things... "people"... Scarlet deals with on a daily basis. Plus it'd be cool to see his response when the ghosts are revealed.
I enjoyed this series even if Scarlet did annoy me from time to time.

A honeymoon really isn’t for ghosts, however, Scarlett’s three amigos, decided to go with, but promised to make themselves scarce so Scar and Lucas could have plenty of alone time. It’s their honeymoon, right? Well, that worked well until a murder happened in the house right next door. That house was being used for a show similar to “The Bachelor “. Okay, guess who they ran into? One of the girls in charge of the production use to work with Lucas. Who wants to have “an old friend” who obviously has a major crush or is in lust, for your husband. 🙄 You’ll want to see who interferes more, the ghosts or the “old friend”. Great story, surprise ending, fun to read to laugh and relax. 😍

Ahh yes, what’s a honeymoon without a murder for Scarlett, Lucas and the ghostly gang to investigate. Borrowing a friends home in the tropics for their honeymoon, Scarlett and Lucas find a dating reality show being filmed next door. Soon after arriving one of the contestants is murdered. The ghostly trio who of course tagged along on the honeymoon decide to investigate while Scarlett and Lucas try to stay away and just enjoy their vacation. Of course that does not work and soon they are embroiled in the investigation. Bitter, vengeful ghost determined to still get her man, the race to solve the case is on.

Loved this book. I really enjoyed the story and how everything turned out. It was good to have more view of Haywards' and Gwens' relationship. I am glad everyone is still on board and didn't get off the crazy train. I liked how the new ghost death was not a murder this time. It was very refreshing especially in these types of series to have a different type of murder mystery. Loved everyone and was glad that that they all showing their love and care for Scarlett. Especially, Flapjack. I was glad Scarlet and her new hubby had fight bit survived the first fight among I am sure of many.

Eh, so so.

I figured this being their honeymoon. It would be more detailed; not on the naughty stuff. I have no interest in that part. I wanted to “see” the island, it’s sandy beaches. Hayward was picked up at a museum on the last page! That would have been far more interesting, then the circus on the other side of the fence; that took up a great majority of the book. You won’t miss Anything, if you skip this one and move on to the next one.

Scarlet and Lucas honeymoon in Hawaii, and seriously, who wouldn't take their three ghost friends with them? Everybody, but what kind of a story do we have then? They're staying at a house lent to them by one of Lucas's contacts. In the house next door? A reality dating show. When one of the contestants dives into the pool and doesn't come up, the ghosts are on the job.

These little nuggets just aren't getting old. I think there's only one left before I have to explore the witch series.

"Ghosts Just Wanna Have Fun" is another bingeable addition to this highly compelling cozy series. In this book, Scarlet and Lucas are on their honey moon, but they cannot catch a break when the reality TV show filming next to their beachside resort in rocked by a murder and they suddenly have to deal with a very powerful and vindictive ghost. Expect, the usual comedic interference from the ghosties, a very good parody of "The Bachelor" and a blast from Lucas' past.

A delightfully fun Hawaiian getaway...with a murder thrown in. I loved the backdrop of the reality dating show, very "The Bachelor"-esque. Seeing the craftiness of the show's producers, and the planned catiness of the female contestants was very entertaining to read about. I didn't love how much time was spent on the honeymoony parts of the story, because I wanted to get right into the mystery, but overall I had a great time with this book.

I'm sorry there weren't pictures.

I like the story. It was a fun idea. In Hawaii. The characters are all witty and loyal. That's important in friends. I love Hayward 💘. He seems so genuine. Scarlett is always very observant and Lacus is just a guy. I liked the first books where Scar was getting her powers.

Scar and Lucas are on their honeymoon and a reality show is airing next door. A contestant dies and Scar gets pulled into the investigation when the dead girl decides to try to take over the bachelors body. Now Scar has to stop a crazy ghost before her honeymoon is over.
