The Goldbergs Cookbook

Rate this book
This official cookbook features totally eighties dishes from the hit TV show.

Fans have been clamoring for the recipes created by television's favorite sMother, Beverly Goldberg, and The Goldbergs Cookbook delivers. Played by Wendi McLendon-Covey and based on creator and show-runner Adam F. Goldberg's real mother, Beverly Goldberg takes every opportunity to cook for her family, putting forth her philosophy: food is love-- and a way to manipulate.

These seventy recipes, most taken from the same recipe box prominently featured in the show's sixth season, give hungry fans their best chance to cook like Beverly, who uses outlandish quantities of cheeses and meats (with veggies few and far between)--and who doles out unwanted help and snuggies to her ungrateful kids as she goes.

Recipes include Beverly's infamous Shrimp Parm-- and many other Parms, since Parming is her thing; meaty family favorites such as Rib Pot Pie (No Peas, No Carrots), 7-Meat Meatloaf, and Big Tasty Pork; and recipes Bev makes with good (unsolicited) intentions, including Barry's Special Power Chili and Bran Muffins to Help You Make, among many others. Retro food photographs accompany many of the recipes and show stills will showcase the entire Goldberg family in all of their high-strung glory.

If you love the show you’ll love this book. Would I make any of the dishes in this book? Likely no. But it is a hoot reading the recipes and seeing what episodes each dish was made for.

Finally a cookbook that is not scared to give a person a heart attack. From the amazingly real Hearty Seven-Meat Meatloaf, yes there is really seven different meats in it, to the spectacular Mac and Cheese Meatballs. There is also the classic Heavyweight Champion Lasagna with beef, pork, and veal and how could we forget the delicious Schmoopie Schnitzel. Now I kid you not, Beverly Goldberg is a real mother who loves inventing new and exciting twist on classic dishes. She slaves away morning to night cooking up a hearty mother loving meal for her army of a family.
This cookbook not only has wacky yet edible meals it also has many that sound amazing and I can’t wait to try. Some like the Tender-Loving Brisket and Snickerdoodles. I will have to actually buy this book so I can have more time recreating some of these recipes seeing the library waitlist is calling for this book back.
Also the vintage photos give this book a great 80’s vibe. The little tidbits of information between recipes worked wonders too. My favorites were 10 Rules for Eating Out, Couponing Like a Pro, and the gem White Zin. You know every mother needs a go to guide for White Zin
Now I need to go put on my jazziest bedazzled apron and of course my hair pulled to the side in a stylish Scrunchie so I can begin my cooking dreams. Please give this book a look through. It’s bodacious, funny, and just plan rad!

People don’t usually read cookbooks just for the fun of reading them, but this cookbook certainly is one that is fun to read. Written by the real Beverly Goldberg and featuring many of the recipes showcased in the television series, this collection of recipes is quite entertaining in its own right. Interspersed with the recipes are many quips and quotes as well as pictures of the show’s actors. The recipes actually look quite tasty, especially if you like cheese. Cheese seems to be the dominant ingredient, in fact. Almost any main course can be made better by throwing in a bit - or more - of cheese. This cookbook would make a great addition to anyone’s library, whether they are a beginning cook or accomplished chef, especially if their family likes cheese. Did I mention that a lot of these recipes call for cheese?

Could have been so much better. Bad 80s recipes and pictures from the show instead of real family pictures (mostly). Very unhealthy. The cheeseburger lasagna is literally just layered lasagna noodles, jarred sauce, and leftover cheeseburger patties. Read it if you like the show and live through these kinds of recipes at your own house. Hate to say it, but cooking like this didn’t help the real Murray (a wealthy doctor in real life) live past his 50s. Also the real Beverly says in the book that she changed some of her recipes to make them funnier, like her three meat lasagna became 7 meat. Still a fun book for fans though.

Quirky, fun and straight out of the '80's---perfect for Goldberg fans! Love the accompanying photos and tidbits. Definitely some doable recipes, even for non-cooks. My kids enjoyed flipping through it too!

I love reading cookbooks. I don't cook all that much, but I love reading cookbooks, especially when they're attached to a favorite movie or TV show. This is one of those. Beverly Goldberg's recipes are fun and you can hear her voice (and see her hair) and feel the love in every page.
