Prior to his first professional work, Tynion was a student of Scott Snyder's at Sarah Lawrence College. A few years later, he worked as for Vertigo as Fables editor Shelly Bond's intern. In late 2011, with DC deciding to give Batman (written by Snyder) a back up feature, Tynion was brought in by request of Snyder to script the back ups he had plotted. Tynion would later do the same with the Batman Annual #1, which was also co-plotted by Snyder. Beginning in September 2012, with DC's 0 issue month for the New 52, Tynion will be writing Talon, with art by Guillem March. In early 2013 it was announced that he'd take over writing duties for Red Hood and the Outlaws in April.

Tynion is also currently one of the writers in a rotating team in the weekly Batman Eternal series.

This is one of the best new series I’ve read in the past several months. This issue just keeps the momentum going with this lovely slow burn. JT4 is a favorite of mine, and this books is an example of why.

Decent art, but barely a story. This comic is taking its time to get anywhere.

There's just something about this series that's so good. It's very, very, very much like Stranger Things, and I think that's not lost on the creator, but it's also got its own thing going on as well. The plot just keeps getting weirder and weirder and I'm a big fan of that. Also, the art is pretty great, I mean it's not super crazy or well done, but, for the content of these issues, it's pretty great.

Will definitely keep reading these. I really wanna know what's going on and it keeps ending in the most ridiculous cliffhangers!

3.5

Still very good. Mysterious, characters and plot evolution, good fantasy elements as well. Really a series that grows more and more on me!

Welcome Back!

It's been a busy week and I am looking forward to the weekend, even though I am still self-isolating, I have been working from home and still pretty much living a mostly normal life (I worked from home before this, so not much has changed for me in my daily routine). This week I decided to dive back into a graphic novel series I picked up a while ago, I really enjoyed the first volume and I believe all the volumes are out and on Hoopla (so that is a total win).

SPOILERS AHEAD

We rejoin our duo who are starting to work on the missing children situation in this volume. However, things do not go over as smoothly as they hoped. They go to a local restaurant (like an Applebee's sort of place) pretty much as soon as the place opens. They bribe the manager to hold a booth (they intend to use this as a base of operations I believe). However, this same manager overhears what they are talking about and happens to be the older brother of one of the missing children. Things escalate from there and they end up having to leave the restaurant and go their separate ways for the time being.

I am going to keep the summary and spoilers as brief as possible with this series because I do not want to ruin anything. I know this is a short-run graphic novel series and so far I think it is amazing but I do not want to ruin anything for anyone who might read it after seeing a review even if they just take a cursory glance. I feel like there is some bigger mystery at work in this graphic novel and I do not want to ruin what could be an amazing/ wonderous experience in the end for anyone. I am so intrigued to see where this series is going to end up! I still really love the art style and I am excited to pick up the next volume.

"Monsters are real, and they’re hungrier than ever. Heroes are also real, though they’re not quite what we expected. At least, the one that appears in Something Is Killing the Children #2 certainly doesn’t appear to be your everyday hero.

Something Is Killing the Children has been a dramatic and disturbing tale so far. It introduced us to a world where the monsters seem to prefer to eat little children—and they’re not always considerate enough to leave behind a body to identify. It’s a sad day when you consider that sort of thing a slight win."

Man oh man So this who DC hired to finish Batman after firing Tom King..It's just not good. I was not thrilled about the first issue but because it has been already a huge success I thought I would stick it out and see where number 2 was heading, and let me tell ya folks it heads straight into a ditch.
I don't mind comics that are heavy with dialogue in fact I revere it however the dialogue needs to be clever while still being realistic this falls into neither category, it just falls. The entire issue is like a speeding train and when it finally gets to the end it derails so heavily it killed all of the children in the entire bullsh*t town.

I love the blond character and her attitude. Even the jerks in this story are mostly understandable. I mean, the manager has an interesting story going on. Only two of these are available on the library app I use, so I'll have to go find more of them in the wild. Woop!

This story just gets more and more compelling and the art is phenomenal. The start of this issue focuses on a man named Tommy, the brother of one of the missing but not found dead kids, and it confirms one huge plot point I had a question about in the first issue…adults, or at least people not being directly hunted, cannot see the monsters. Which just reinforces my idea that our main character has implants to be able to hunt the monsters. Tommy got up this morning to head into work and even though he was asked to stop doing it, his mom convinced him to take a stack of missing flyers to put on people’s cars with information on his sister. But as he walks out to the car he hears a noise in the distance, and he can’t even see the monster, drooling blood, looking right over his car, almost like it is mocking him. But what if it’s not mocking him, what if it’s begging for help? I wonder…is there a chance these monsters were once human?

As it would so happen, the place where Tommy works, a knockoff Applebees, if the spot where the main badass character I haven’t caught a name for yet takes James to do a little bit of planning. She immediately talks to Tommy about setting up a deal where she pays $50 a day directly into his pocket so she can leave her stuff in a corner booth safely. At first he was against it because policy, but with the promise of steering away in Thursdays with a different manager who is a stickler for the rules and they had a deal. Immediately as they sit down, she pulls out a stuffed octopus and puts it on the table, asking James not to ask about it. As she pulls out a map and lays it across the table, a host comes over and she orders a lager and coffee and gets a coffee for James as well after he begged to get one as well. As the host walks away, James asks if she has done this before. Suddenly images of previous times where she has hacked, slashed, and blasted her way through monsters go through her mind. As the host walks away they talk to Tommy and point out how weird it is that James, the only survivor found with all those bodies, is talking with a woman way too old to be his sister. At that point Tommy had enough and decided to walk over, where he overhears the woman talking to James about all the locations where bodies have been found and how hard it will be to map out where the missing children got lost, probably trying to narrow down the search area for the monster as much as possible. To start, she starts to ask where Sophie lived and that’s when Tommy points to the map and reveals he is her brother. He asks what they are doing and James begins to talk, but she shuts James down. I think she has a thing with adults being involved, especially with such a personal connection and it’s clear she has experience with this as well as she immediately hands James her bag and instructs him to leave. Unfortunately James fumbled the bag and her machete went onto the table, throwing thoughts into Tommy’s mind about who they are and their connection to her sister. She immediately grabs Tommy and slams him down into a lock on the table and tells James to leave. She tells him she is not the bad guy here and she knows as much as he does and is now going to walk out and she isn’t going to see him again. As soon as they leave, Tommy calls the sheriff to report the suspicious incident. She then tells James the next step is for him to go home, and he will still get a chance to help but she has to do the next part herself. Suddenly she gets a call, she only tells James that there is an asshole on the other end but I am guessing someone watching her back caught the sheriff call from Tommy and now she has to follow protocol. She tells James that if anyone comes asking to tell them the full truth, and there is no need to lie. James immediately see the situation as it is…no one would believe him anyway. As she heads back to the motel where she is staying, she immediately heads to her room and past the suspicious manager and sets up the octopus on her bed. She immediately begins talking to it, it saw the map and they can see this monster is a “class E7,” and that it is more than likely stashing the missing kids in a cave system for food and she is going to need to know what kind of thing it is before she can go after it. So in the meantime she needs the octopus thinking in it. And then the octopus plush responds with a “yes,” confirming her directive. That night the sheriff rolled up to the motel where he met with the manager who wants her out and has been hearing weird noises. The manager walks up to her door to see an octopus like shadow coming from under it, before ordering her to open the door. She obliges opening the door all the way to reveal a giant child like octopus squid hybrid spirit creature looming over the doll. She claims there is no problem at all, which makes me think he can’t see what we are seeing, and makes me think even further that is the true form of the octopus doll. Oooooh, I love the mystery behind this series so much!

After searching for weeks! I finally find a good book, "Something is killing the children", when I read the first few pages, I somehow got attached, really good book. I recommend it to people who are more mature-like, can handle graphic content. It does contain lots of cuss words, and children being torn apart. But after reading book 1, I really loved it! I'm going to continue finishing this book, the plot is so good! It makes you come to many conclusions, and there are so many good scenes (bloody)! Definitely one of the best books I've read, truly and highly recommend this book.

I liked how the kid with the glasses is so composed, even he WITNESSED his friends getting MASSACRED by the "creature", after searching and searching for people who would believe in him and not find him CRAZY, he meets an old lady, maybe in her thirties or twenties, she is known for killing some monsters, and she is highly good in investigation. Her weapons she used are, machetes, guns, and katanas (i think a katana scene was too bloody to tell). They both meet up, and investigate some more scenes in locating where these bloodthirsty monsters are. This is about how far in the book I am, Im definitely going to read some more. Cheers!

Okay so I thought the first issue was pretty good and pretty interesting, but it didn't wow me. But this one on the other hand was so good and I am dying to know what happens next! I loved the cliffhanger at the end and it was one of those satisfying moments where I am not annoyed, I just want to know more. I am also waiting to hear more about Erika's backstory, but am so far satisfied with the little flashback of her fighting that we got in this one. Also that was a brilliant way to introduce new characters with the mom and brother of the missing girl. I am ready to get to the next one, I am so intrigued! I can only write in these messy sentences because I am too excited about it!

I was lukewarm on the first issue but this issue drew me back in because of the mysterious Monster Hunter (does she have a name yet?). There was less horror (which I don't like that much) and more mystery (which I do). There were some cute/funny touches which I like because if a book is all doom and gloom it gets pretty boring for me. Although, I have to say the Monster Hunter (for someone trying to stay unnoticed) was pretty dumb here, and within 3 minutes gets thrown out of a restaurant and has the cops show up at her hotel.

The buildups to the title of the series and the cliffhangers are really suspenseful! I’m hoping the manager of the knockoff Applebees ends up becoming an ally. I got goosebumps when he left for work and the monster was right in front of him but he couldn’t see it! And I am really curious about what the stuffed octopus is. How can this girl still see these things if she is older now and I am assuming only children can see them? Is it something to do with the thing on the side of her head? What is killing the children?! Do the children become these things that are feeding on the children?

Emmmm ¿Ok?
