Descending Adamant

Rate this book
When a meteorite crashes into a remote field in Kansas, Agent Andrew Wu of the Department of Homeland Security assumes dealing with it will be just like any other day of not-quite-normal work. However, together with his fellow agents Zak and Laura, and scientists Merlin and Francine, Andrew makes the unfortunate discovery that not everything is as it seems.

Infected by a strange alien organism, Andrew begins to undergo some confusing changes, leaving it up to Merlin, a man who has been secretly in love with him, to solve the mystery before things can escalate into dangerous territory.

Descending Adamant is a cross-genre Sci-Fi/Horror/LGBT novel with a focus on creating a diverse cast, and using hard science fiction to develop an atmosphere of discomfort that slow-burns to outright horror.

I came across this jewel quite unexpectedly, I’ve read some real dark stuff and THIS is right up there with the rest 😱. We have a detective, Agent Andrew Wu, tall, handsome and abused. He and his partner Zak are given a case in regards to a meteorite that landed. Subsequently, Wu gets injured cause by said meteorite and places in quarantine. The head scientist, Merlin developed a crush for Wu prior to their recent case and this attraction manifested itself but not in the way your thinking.

How the author was able to delve in the human psyche and how we view the world in different situations is just remarkable. We don’t see the flaws in the people we hold close to our hearts or we choose to be intentionally blind or convince ourselves that how it IS isn’t actually how IS. This book cycles through multiple POVs, but boy did that not take away from the story. Every character had depth, a role and layers to peel away. I don’t think I had time process all the emotions I felt reading this book but only because I devoured this so quickly. Like fine wine it just got better and better. Highly recommend, absolutely loved it.

Sorry if my review seems disjointed, wrote this 4 in the morning 😪
