Captured By Hawk

Rate this book
One particular case has caught the attention of Officer Skyhawk Werner, along with the rest of Syracuse: The Man-handler, a vigilante who assaults innocent men under the guise of protecting women from a supposed attack. But as a policeman, Hawk knows the difference between protection and assault, and this vigilante is no hero. Despite being a rookie, Hawk has every intention of solving this case, a crucial step to becoming a detective. The fact his family’s magic heirloom ring warns him of the danger only further incites him to solve it. He can’t wait to slap the cuffs on this lawless creature and drag him to justice. After all, Hawk knows what it’s like living with someone hiding a secret identity, and he doesn’t want anyone suffering from the tortured past he had. One major problem: his captain’s orphaned sister wants to help, and his ring seems to think this forbidden woman is his match.

Watching her bar customers disappear one by one has alerted Gloria Reyes to a dangerous situation: women are being kidnapped. It’s not just from her bar, either—other bartenders have noticed the same thing. Working in an off-duty cop bar should mean Gloria gets to catch snippets of shop talk, but she’s not learning fast enough to help. Her self-defense classes provide the security she needs to investigate—despite her cop brother’s protestations—but nearly a year later, no one has stopped the abductions, or recovered the missing women.

Somebody’s got to do something.

The problem is, that gorgeous playboy Officer Hawk Werner seems bent on solving the case, automatically making him her enemy.

The last thing Gloria needs is her secret crush learning the truth.

The hardest thing to write is about oneself. So... here goes....

I love to read, mostly romance, but every now and then I'll toss in an Austen or Hawthorn just to shake things up. YA is another favorite, and as I grew up on Piers Anthony and Robert Asprin, fantasy is fantastic for me.

It is impossible for me to read or write without a cat on my lap. (Trust me. I've tried.)

I am published in Romance, with sub-genres of contemporary, paranormal, and time travel. Working on book 4 now, which is also contemporary.

WOW! This was one wild ride! As much an Action/Thriller as it was a Romance. Being about rookie cop and a vigilante with a secret identity, I dare say it even treads on comic book territory. This one has it all: Action, suspense, witty dialogue (like all of Ms. Callahan's books), and of course, a sweet love story. A minor warning to the more sensitive readers, there is some harsh language in this one. But it's not gratuitous. It fits the characters.

In this second book of the Cloudy Skies series, this storyline hit my sweet spot. I've been itching for a strong fearless female lead and Dorothy Callahan delivered her in Gloria. When Gloria notices that the cops aren't concerned about the rising number of missing women, she decides to take matters into her own hands and becomes a vigilante of sorts. Which is problematic when your brother is the captain on the police force. Add to that challenge, the hot new addition to the force, Hawk. A man Gloria finds hard to resist - so she antagonizes him. Calls him out on his serial one-night stands. Still, she's drawn to him.

Hawk doesn't shy away from this truth, but Gloria is different and he can't explain it. Though a family treasure gives him an indication that she is unlike anyone he has ever or will ever know. Trouble is, his reputation precedes him and Gloria doesn't give an inch. Through several twists and turns, Hawk finds himself working alongside the "vigilante" against his better judgment.

Commence sparks and a beautiful love story where two people are brought together under the worst of circumstances and still find peace, forgiveness and happily ever after,

Without giving more of the storyline away, Ms. Callahan dives into true life/world events honestly with tremendous sensitivity, fortitude, and strength. In a world where current events reflect the diminishing human rights of women, through Gloria, Ms. Callahan reminds us to get up and fight for love, truth, and your authentic self.

I strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning about the inner journey of a young woman as she evolves into a superhero. Oh, let's not forget about the hot guy! It's a romance novel!!!
