Northshield Magic by Kevin McLaughlin begins the story of a young man with magic abilities he wishes he did not have who enters college at the Northshield military college determined to live his own life, to excel and to do it without use of magic. Right off the bus, he discovers magic forces running wild on campus, though others don't seem to realize it. He seems to be targeted by them and suddenly must employ his unexplored talents to survive.
