When Summer Snow is told she’s on the cut list for softball tryouts, she’s desperate to fix her swing. Her fear of being the only senior cut this year lands her at the local batting cages, bartering her time for free batting practice. The owner isn’t willing to make the trade; but, his son, Gabe the hottie rich kid, is willing to help her out when his dad’s not looking—as long as she cleans the men’s bathroom. Ew! But, whatever. Anything to make the team.
Even with a few nights in the cages, her swing’s not improving. Gabe’s sincere suggestions help and before she knows it, she’s daydreaming about the cute baseball player instead of the scholarship she's been working toward. A stolen first kiss at a party and she’s falling fast, but tryouts loom ahead of her. If she can’t keep her head in the game, Summer will end up watching, softball and Gabe, from the sidelines

Sometimes it’s nice to read a young adult book. This was one of those times. I loved that the romance in this one is light and sweet. And it was kind of nice to go back to simpler times of high school first love. I loved the baseball theme of this one too!
The characters in this one are so much fun! Summer is a high school senior with lots of responsibilities. Her parents are divorced, which leaves her running her younger sisters to their games and practices after her own. I liked the way she was resourceful. When she thought she was getting cut from the team, she figured out a way to get the extra practice she needed. And she’s smart to try to leave guys alone during high school.
But Gabe is a great guy. It was kind of neat that they both were responsible for their siblings. It wasn’t in the same way, but they were able to relate to each other. I liked the way he was a gentleman with Summer, even when she wasn’t always nice to him.
This is a cute, fun romance! It’s a quick read that I really enjoyed. If you want something light and fun, this is a good choice. Especially for your high school daughters!
Sooo. This book was actually good. At first, no lie... I thought this book was boring because of how it started off. But turn out it was actually good.
With that being said..... I understood a lot of what Summer was going through because she had so many expectations and the way her mindset was up set up... especially what was expected of her when it came to supports and taking care of her sisters. It can become too much, which can make you flip out on the parent or parents. Which she did... some times you got to let your parents or parent know how you felt at least her mom actually understood what she said. Because often parents don't care what you have to say regardless of you are hurting even if it's fiction or non-fiction.
But at least she had Gabe... throughout everything that went down. Her sister Kaylee was wrong for going off on her when she was hanging out with people from both baseball and softball team. At least she realizes all the things that Summer was actually doing. Because for one, I think she didn't see how much Summer had on her shoulders.
Plus Summer shouldn't have wanted her sister Kaylee to want to stay on the team.. she should've let her make her own choices and figure out in the long run if it was a mistake or not... which I believe she did... learn to not butt into her sisters life.... which she explains to Gabe when she apologizes to him..
I figured he actually likes her but was too afraid to give it a try because of "Summer not wanting to date" but clearly at the kissing thing they did at the party you could tell he wanted Summer and wanted her to be his girl. Plus I was glad that his brother went back to rehab, and hopefully, he actually gets the help he needs and stays from continuing being an alcoholic.
Not only that I didn't like Violet at all you can tell a hater or someone who doesn't like you because they would make you want to quit or want you to get kick off the team or from your job... by doing things that would affect you.. but the funny thing happens Summer got on the team, and Violet still didn't get the position from Summer and more likely going to continue being a hater. But at least Summer got a happy ending with her family by going to counseling and becoming Gabe official girlfriend.
Btw: I didn't get the title at all "it could've to be "If It's a Prank" because clearly there wasn't a prank.. blah.
I loved this story! Her life was softball and taking care of her sisters, until she realized she could lose softball and goes to Gabe for help. It helped me remember all of those sweet tingly moments when you’re dating someone you really like. I loved that she could apologize and really loved that her mom was there for her just in time!
Cute! This was a great read to get me in the mood for the first week of school. Summer is a senior, a catcher, and has just been told that if she doesn't improve her batting she'll be cut from the softball team her senior year. Enter Gabe, a star of the baseball team.
I loved Summer's dedication to her sport, and to her family. She's helping raise her younger sisters, and has taken on a lot of responsibility. I loved watching her find a balance.
The chemistry between Gabe and Summer was amazing. I just loved them! I loved the trust they built with each other, the way that Gabe helped Summer with her swing, and the kissing. This is a book I want to own and reread, not just borrow from Kindle Unlimited.
I loved how their first kiss happened, how Summer's sister found her own way apart from softball, and the other family relationships in addition to our main couple. I know almost nothing about sports but I still really enjoyed this book. Characters who are passionate about something are always interesting, whether that something is softball or drawing or anything else. The author did a great job.
Softball and baseball. Brings back memories of dirt, newly mowed grass, bats, balls, scores, sliding into base and summertime. This story takes you there. Fabulous characters and story line. Hurray for Summer and Gabe who "breathe" softball and baseball. Can these two look up from their games to find each other? Can they concur school, tryouts, and complicated home lives? I highly recommend this engaging book! Happy Reading!
This is a sweet, sporty YA story with some broken home angst mixed in. It was well written and fairly realistic. The series has been a little uneven in quality but this is one of the better ones.
Such a cute read. Summer has too much on her plate and doesn't plan on adding a boy into the mix. But Gabe changed her mind as he helped her fix her swing so that she could make the team. This book made me smile!
Love, love, love!! ❤ Wow, and I do mean wow! This novel was excellent and thorough without becoming explicit! I love romantic novels and this one had a wonderful storyline to keep me entertained! Fabulous!
Summer is the star catcher on the softball team. She is counting on a college scholarship for softball because money has been tight ever since her father left their family. But she is struggling with her batting and is in danger of getting cut from the softball team her senior year if she doesn't turn it around fast.
Gabe is the rich kid baseball star whose dad owns the batting cages. He is very willing to pay for her batting cage practice in exchange for her cleaning the bathrooms so he doesn't have to.
Summer has two younger sisters who she spends a lot of time with because their single mother works a lot of shifts. She is always encouraging them to stay away from boys, but as she spends more time with Gabe she realizes that she may not be able to take her own advice any more.
I noticed something about this series. All the books I've read from it (almost half of the series) have had divorced parents and one mc is poor while the other is rich. The female mcs had all sworn off guys until that one guy. Idk if that was intentional to tie the series together or not, but it made the stories all meld together in my mind so those facts are all I remember. It became repetitive and like an excuse for certain behaviors. Anyway, this was a cute story about working hard, taking responsibility, and finding time to just have some fun. It was also about forgiveness and healing. Teen girls would like this series. It's very angsty and emotional. It's also clean. No swearing. Only kissing.
A terrific, T&YA family values & virtues tale. Summer Snow counts on softball being her ticket into college. However, the coaches have told her she's on the cut list. To improve her skills, she cuts a deal with Gabe, the hot, rich kid whose father owns the public batting cages. He, in a gentlemanly manner, breaks down her barriers to romance. But their lives are, naturally, complicated by their family situations.
This is a fun and fast-paced story. It's full of personal growth for a variety of characters. While it is full of ups and downs, it ends in an enthusiastic manner.
This was a fun read. It felt light hearted throughout the story even though Summer was dealing with some big issues for her. I love how Gabe and Summer start building their friendship that develops into something more. They help each other out with what is going on. I loved Summer’s mouth and how things just blurted out of it and the way that Gabe handled those moments so Summer wasn’t as embarrassed. This was just a feel good read for me and I will definitely be looking for more by this author.
I like any book with a lead that I can actually relate to. And I could totally relate to Summer's type-A personality and the responsibility she had in her family. I definitely missed out on A LOT of "teenagerish" things because of that, so I loved seeing that represented in a genre that typically portrays annoying/dramatic/immature teenage girls. I did think there was more to the story that was left unwritten that could have strengthened the narrative. But, despite that I enjoyed it!
This has been my least favorite of these series. I felt summer was a hard character to enjoy. Like all the other this is the “dating” aspect. It does follow the story line of the previous books. So take at it what you will. I almost stopped on chapter 4 but decided since it’s so short to finish it. I did like the character development and growth into maturity and seeing a bigger picture
The protagonist supposes to be mature for her age but she really is a old lady pretending to be a teen 🤦🏻♀️! The conversation are way too formal. Good concept of a plot poorly executed. 🙁
The Sweet Water High series have either been a hit or miss for me- this book was definitely a miss. First, let me start of by saying that the book’s title and the correlation to the story was way off. I expected the main H and h to have some sort of cute battle of the pranks like I’ve seen in some other teenage angst stories. Secondly, the author spent so much time discussing softball instead of developing chemistry with her main characters, there wasn’t any witty banter or cute moments that made me feel that the characters were meant to be with each other. Not only that, Summer was not a likeable character, she was uptight, and boring. The only good thing about her character was that she was a responsible older sister to her younger sisters. Third but last- the author barely paints the picture in your mind of what Summer looks like or other characters- we know what the Gabe looks like but in order to get into a story authors need to paint a picture in our minds by description of what the main characters look like. Overall, I was hoping this book would be similar to “Kissing the boy next door” or “Falling for my nemesis” but I was disappointed. I normally don’t like leaving bad reviews, but I thought this book could of had so much potential.
I liked it for the most part. The way the word prank used was a little weird. For example, they'd be sarcastic or just joking around and they'll say hahah I'm just pranking you. I don't get it lol prank is more of like a practical joke and stuff (or how I see it as) and the entire time, I was waiting for a real prank to come and nothing really happened. I also didn't understand something with Summer and softball. It was like a little disconnect. Everyone and their mother is saying that she's like the star of the team and she's the reason why they made it to finals before .... yet she's at risk of getting kicked out?! Then that's just dumb coaching no? I don't know. That didn't sit well with me because that was the whole reason why she needed the extra practice. I liked Gabe, he was super adorable.
It was a fun and fast read. The only problem is that is was a little too face. There was a lot of good material going on there that could have been explored more. But, as it stands, it still sweet.
Talk about a prank, I thought it was about something else by the cover. In actuality, it was a really sweet budding romance story of finding yourself, and finding positives in the negatives life throws you. Well done.
I love all of Lucy’s books and the sweet water high series. They’re always adorable reads with a sweet high school romance. I fell in love with Gabe and definitely understood Summer’s need to stay in control of her life.
