But Before You Leave

Rate this book
We all have experiences we struggle to put into words. Whether that be heartbreak, loss, mourning, or internal battles, it's a common theme among all of us as humans. Whether or not you have the ability to understand and put into words, what it is you're going through, this book does that for you. It gives you strength on your worst days, understanding on your weakest days and reminds you more than anything, to keep going.

"Have you ever stood in a crowded room and felt like the loneliest person there?" -- page 31

Okay, so I may not be the exact target audience for Corley's volume - probably half of the time her words seemed directed towards the ladies, regarding relationships - but every so often she surprises with a quietly good insight or thought. Some other examples of her 'one-line' prose-wisdom include:

"Be wary of whom you bring to the top with you; some people reach for your hand only to bring you down." -- page 22

or

"Sometimes rock bottom is life's most solid platform to build on." -- page 33

I get the feeling the author wants the world to be a better place, and for her its starts with people treating each other better or at least having more empathy. I have no problem with that sentiment.

Made my day! :)

I have followed Kirsten's blog for about a year. I was thrilled when it was announced her book was coming out. I marked it on my calendar to remember to purchase and I'm so glad I did. Let me start by saying I am a wife, mother, and nurse. I lead a very busy life with not much time for reading much else anything else. It has to be quality reading to gain my time and attention. Kirstens writings really touch me. It's like all the things I have ever thought of or wanted to say are expressed through her writing. I resonate with so much of it. It's so deeply touching, moving, raw and just plain real. There were times reading I teared up because something said just went straight to my heart. I think I honestly highlighted almost the whole book! With that being said her writing always leaves me with a positive feeling. I believe God gives every one of us a gift. Kirsten, you have a gift of words to help others. Your writing is beautiful! Looking forward to reading more from you soon! Much love from this Ny gal now in Florida.

“It takes a special kind of person to love someone who is broken. Because it isn’t simply loving them. It’s teaching them everything they’ve come to believe and being the exception. It’s teaching them they can trust someone other than themselves. In return, they’ll doubt you. They’ll question you and second-guess everything. They’ll want more than anything to run the other way. Don’t let them. Because once they trust you, they’ll love you harder than you thought anyone could. They will redefine what you thought love even meant. And you’ll never be the same again.”

#Spoilers

This particular book skipped the entire "to be read list" and jumped right in to my "Currently reading list" for two important reasons. One because it was a recommendation from my sibling who only reads once in a while in a blue moon and two because i had an expectation that it is going to be a quick read similar to "Six-Word Memoirs on Love and Heartbreak" or "He's Just Not That Into You" and i was right to a certain extent. It is indeed quick read but there are too many emotions and sentiments involved on each page, and if you stop to ponder and reflect and relate each quote to your experiences, you will probably cry buckets and wont be able to finish the book by the year end. Since my kindle is misbehaving and i am not able to share the notes. I am jotting down a few of my favorites here, to get a feeling of the writing style:

*Try losing the only thing you care about and not going insane. I dare you.

*The measure of a person's character is defined by how they choose to exit your story.

*If you want to know a girl's story, find the song that makes her cry. Listen to it and ask her about her past.

*My mom always said,"Kill them with kindness." Be so kind that if someone doesn't like you everyone else thinks they are crazy for it.

*One of the hardest things in life is to watch someone you love self destruct knowing well you could do nothing but pick up the pieces when it's over. It broke me a bit because we were both good people with the best intentions, but after a while, we just stopped being good for each other.

One of the best part about the book is that you can pick it up from anywhere and it will make sense to you and it will keep you engrossed. So if you are as sappy as me and love to go on a spiral roller coaster of emotions and thoughts, grab a cup of hot chocolate on a wintry night and settle down on your couch with the book.

A very heartfelt and meaningful book. It's perfect for anyone going through heartbreak and needing support. Kirsten speaks to the reader in a way that is totally relatable. Raw, meaningful, and endearing, this book is a gem.

If you have to try that hard, I can guarantee one thing, they probably aren’t worth it.

If you don’t want to be that girl, then don’t be her. But you have to make a decision about whom you want to be and pursue that.

So much emotions in this book!
