Isla hides from the world on the remote Isle of Skye—torn between her passion for adventure and her parents’ disdain for her career. While photographing yet another happy couple for their wedding, Isla finds herself distracted by the charming groomsman who encourages her to chase life beyond the camera lens, with him at her side.
Liam is visiting Scotland for his brother’s wedding, and all he can think about is hiking the wild Scottish Highlands. The trails are his life… until he finds himself unable to look away from a shy Scottish lass.
With an ocean between the lives they live and the love they crave, will Liam and Isla find a way to overcome the distance?
Mandi Blake was born and raised in Alabama where she lives with her husband and daughter, but her southern heart loves to travel. Reading has been her favorite hobby for as long as she can remember, but writing is her passion. She loves a good happily ever after in her sweet Christian romance books and loves to see her characters' relationships grow closer to God and each other.
A sweet, quick read in the romance and idyllic background of Scotland. I enjoyed every moment of Mandi's writing - it was engaging, fun, emotive and real. It was also a tad frustrating, too, because now I REALLY want to go to Scotland! 😂
The South of Skye is the first book of Mandi Blake that I have read. She goes into very descriptive detail about the surrounding countryside of Scotland. I really enjoyed the book. Her depth of the characters seemed real. This is also the first book in the series Meet Me in Scotland. Liam, as best man to his half-brother Steven, has traveled to Scotland with his brother and his intended, Ashley, as well as her sister, Danielle. They have two weeks to tour the countryside on the Isle of Skye and have some ideal photos taken along the way. Liam is excited because he has found several areas that he can hike. Isla is the photographer that has been hired to take the photos and has picked several beautiful locations around the island. Liam feels an instant connection with the lady behind the camera. This book made me want to travel to this island just for the scenery alone. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. #SouthofSkye #MeetMeInScotland #MandiBlake
Aw, sigh!! This short story has the first connections, the romantic feels and the ‘coming home at last’ on different levels in the beautiful setting of Skye, Scotland.
God truly makes them and matches them as several couples show in this enlightening trip and by their dependence on God for important decisions they need to make or have made. The interactions between Liam and Isla had more than their hearts beating faster!!
Actually 4.75 stars for a smattering of small typos, but this story was great, anyway. The author did a wonderful job of keeping the story on target and filled the pages with exactly the right information to keep readers turning pages. If you enjoy sweet, contemporary romance with a dash of faith rounding out the tale, then I recommend this book to you.
A lovely read set in Scotland on the Isle of Skye. I enjoyed the setting and the characters, Isla and Liam as they explore the island through the lens of her camera and find more than they thought possible.
Very unique. Loved the setting. Very descriptive. It's a place I would love to see for myself. The main characters were just people who gave much to others. But they needed more. They found their HEA thru prayer and patience
First book by this author I’ve ever read. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The characters grabbed my attention right away and held on to the end. I also enjoyed the subject. My daughter-in-law is a photographer and that made the story more real to me. Highly recommend this book!!
Mandi makes her characters and the area they are in come to life with the detail she writes with. I felt I was there watching the story unfold. Excellent book!
Beautiful setting in Scotland for a romantic story. Isla and Liam are wonderful characters. I loved reading about the area, weather and the families involved.
Liam never quite fit in with his ultra wealthy family, but he’s close with his half brother Steven. Now he’s been tapped to serve as Steven’s best man for a destination wedding on a picturesque but rugged Scottish island. He wants to be supportive, but is also fighting to maintain his patience with his high maintenance sister in law, and to make the most of what the island has to offer.
Isla is a local photographer who’s spent her whole life on the small island as the daughter of sheep farmers. Though she loves her home and her photography business, she often finds herself wondering if there’s more to life, and chafing against her parents’ expectations. When she meets Liam, who’s just visiting, she starts seeing a future with him - though it’ll be just a dream if he returns to America after the wedding.
As Liam and Isla spend time together hiking to rugged locations, taking photos, and sampling the local cuisine, they both begin to fall for each other. But Isla is a local with deep roots, and Liam is a tourist. How will they make a life together without major change and sacrifice?
💕THE ROMANCE💕
Liam and Isla are just so cute together! We see a contrast in the other girl who’s vying for Liam’s affection, which shows that Isla is the exact type of person who’s right for him. Liam supports her photography and enjoys helping her work, and he’s enchanted by her island home.
Isla has some self esteem issues around looks, class, and background. Seeing how she works through these while getting to know Liam is sweet. The two are honest but lighthearted with each other, romantic without acting like kids in puppy love, and able to get serious without losing their flirtatious fun.
✝️FAITH ELEMENTS✝️
Because so much focus is on the gorgeous natural surroundings, characters reflect on the grandeur of God’s creation and their gratitude for it. As the romance progresses and the two have to figure out what choices they need to make based on their feelings for one another, they pray for guidance.
📝MY THOUGHTS📝
I did my study abroad in Ireland, and while I wasn’t lucky enough to enjoy a whirlwind foreign romance, I did fall in love with the cliffs, oceans, and greenery of the island. So getting to revisit a similar part of the world through this book was delightful.
I enjoyed how both characters were fully fleshed out, with their own conflicts and motives, but in a way that never stalled out or distracted from the romance. As an outdoorsy girl, I really enjoyed the depictions of the hikes. I also loved the way Liam supports Isla’s creative passions and career.
A wonderful experience for Liam to travel to the Isle of Skye to meet and fall in love with his HEA, Isla. Not expecting this as he travels with his brother for Steven's wedding. Mandi Blake provided us with a tourist guide should we ever get the opportunity. The whole way through I was humming the theme of Outlander and envisaging the scenes as they hiked the trails. I received a copy and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Liam and Isla, what a sweet couple. What a sweet love story their's is. I was captivated from the first to the last page. Totally swoon worthy.
The description of the sites was so captivating and enchanting, I'd love to go there. The dialogue so charming, I'd want to be a part of those conversations.
Mandi doesn't disappoint. It is CLEAR why she's one of my favourite authors!
