Andi Cann is one of my favourite recent children's authors. Her writing is fun, sometimes sassy, and just connects well with me as a reader. I adore her stories and want to spread the word about it to parents and educators!

Princess Pumpkin Patch is a fun little tale to get you and your young ones in a Fall mood. Back when pumpkins were square, Sassi ruled over the Pumpkin Patch Kingdom. She feels like she isn't doing enough, so she goes on some soul searching. Over her journey, she finds out how to feel like she is enough.

This is so wonderful and has a really good message. It's not only full of beautiful illustrations, but also means a lot too. It's important to teach children important messages like these.

Five out of five stars.

Butterfly Castle. Pumpkin Patch Kingdom. There were 1,000’s of pumpkin’s grown & sold during the harvest season.
Her Royal Majesty Princess Sassinia “Sassi” Pumpkin Patch ruled at that time.
They were exported worldwide.
Aren’t you glad she does, now we can have Halloween jack-o-lanterns, pies, & bread?
When the season was over, she turns to other personal activities.
The Kingdom people adored her.
But something seems to be missing in her life.
What did Oscar (Owl) suggest?
Can you guess what she learned?

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) fantasy storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s fantasy movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

A long time ago, Princess Sassi lived in her Butterfly Kingdom. She facilitated the pumpkin harvest and shipped the pumpkins all over the world. At that time, pumpkins were square, and they grew only in her kingdom. Sassi ruled her subjects with kindness and generosity, but she felt like she should be doing more.

Sassi visits Oscar the owl, who advises her to take a journey around the world. The Princess puts Felipe the frog in charge and sets forth on her journey. After visiting the sky and brightening the stars, Sassi is advised to visit the seas when she hangs a lantern to light them. Finally, Sassi is led to the tree of knowledge.

The answer that Sassi finds surprises her. Young readers learn that each of us has an inner light within us to share with the world. How do pumpkins become round? What happens to Sassi?
This book is richly illustrated and fun to read. My only recommendation is to enlarge the print size to make it easier for beginning readers. The message is pertinent for any age reader.

This is a beautiful book with a wonderful story. This is a perfect bedtime story book. A wonderful read together book. A stupendous read to your parent book for the older kids.
Once upon a time there was a Butterfly Castle surrounded by all the pumpkins in the world. Pumpkin Patch Kingdom shipped pumpkins all around the world. Princess Sassinia Pumpkin Patch (Sassi) was in charge of the harvest festival. She felt something was missing. Was she making a difference? Was she doing enough? What was beyond the village?

A nice. Story about how pumpkins became round.

Once again, Andi Cann wrote a nice story with a wonderful message, princess Sassi finds out that she does enough in the world, because where she comes, she brings light and warmth in hearts. Every kid can learn that being nice to people, it is all that is needed to make a change in the world.

What a wonderful story

I absolutely loved this story and the artwork throughout the book was magical. This book is a great answer to young girls all over the world when they may think they aren’t enough or what’s so special about them. Everyone is different, special and kind in their own unique way. This story is a wonderful reminder of that.

Ah, the eternal question:

Why are pumpkins round?

'Princess Pumpkin Patch' - a strange... yet oddly touching, independently published picture book. It has its own magic and wonder, and contains an important message about self-love, and carrying that love for others, and being enough as your own loving, beautiful, kind, generous self. Your own heart and light are enough for everyone in the world.

And personally, I could never resist a book with a title like 'Princess Pumpkin Patch', and it contains pumpkins (duh), autumn, winter, a princess (though she should be the queen of her Pumpkin Patch Kingdom), owls, balloons, stars, umbrellas, lighthouses, toadstools, and a literal book worm. There is a lot of colour and colourful butterflies in the Pumpkin Patch Kingdom. It's a fairy tale, where a whole lot of whimsy is present.

It's just all so nice and innocent!

It's like 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and the Cabbage Patch Kids and the 'Little Miss Books' mixed together!

However, I'm not really a fan of the art. It looks genuinely sweet and lush sometimes, but more often it resembles a collection of card art - or something out of DeviantArt - than what should be in a picture book meant to tell a fluid story in motion. It also looks AI generated to me (I sincerely hope that's not the case, though it is from 2019, so maybe not?), and I can't decide if Princess Sassinia is more unsettling with her eyes open or closed (was Margaret Keane's work an inspiration?). And she should never smile widely again. 'Princess Pumpkin Patch' is technically a Halloween book, but its scares should be intentional!

Extra note: Where are Sassi's dog Pandy, and the frog Felipe, who took over the kingdom for her while she travelled the world and skies, by the end?

Still, it somehow manages to be heartwarming throughout. It is creative, sweet, inspiring, and life-affirming.

Between this and 'Pumpkinheads' on my enjoyment scale, I can't believe I haven't ever been to see a real pumpkin patch yet. I wish to so badly!

'Princess Pumpkin Patch' counts as a Halloween read. So Happy (late) Halloween, everyone!

'Remember you are light and love whenever you see a pumpkin that is round.'
