Emily Abbott is accidentally in danger. Targeted by the 10,000, a mysterious group of rogue spies, she’s been relocated to a safe-house, placed under the protection of an ICS agent, and given a new, temporary job in a political campaign’s call-center.
But when Brent calls her in a panic to say a bomb threat has been made against the campaign, she can’t help but become involved. As the threats ramp up, stolen RFID tech disguised as a pair of dimes shows up in Phoenix.
Is it a coincidence? Emily doesn’t think so.
What are the 10,000 planning? Only time will tell, and once the dimes are used, time is something Emily and Brent don’t have.
"The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott" is a series of clean spy-comedies set in Phoenix, Arizona. Season 1: 1. Red Rover, Red Rover 2. Plan to Fail 3. Bad Things, Small Packages 4. Tutor, Nanny, Spit-up, Spy 5. A-Spying We Will Go 6. Once Upon a Dime
Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick lives in an undisclosed location outside of Phoenix where she and her husband chase their four little boys and an escape-artist dog. They don't chase their cats, however, because cats hate that. She is the author of "The Kitten Files" mysteries, "The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott" spy series, and multiple short stories.
In addition to her writing, Perry enjoys graphic design, playing a number of musical instruments, and watching movies that make her laugh.
5+ stars (8/10 hearts). Oh. my. word. WHAT a book. And what an ending to Season 1!!
This was even more exciting than book one. It is my favourite of the whole series. It’s just as humorous as ever, the stakes are higher, and Emily proves her worth. The whole thing kept me riveted even more than it usually does.
It was fantastic to see Izzy again; Mirage is awesome; and Brent + Emily… well… there’s finally some small subtle hints of growing attachment yet it’s still so platonic and I AM HERE FOR IT!! The political surroundings were so much fun, more puzzle pieces are fitting together, and ahhh I’m just so, so eager for Season 2!!! I can’t even express how much I love these books and how awesome they are!!
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “Um, ma’am, I’m not calling to speak with Roy Mortensen, I’m calling to speak with you about Roy Mortensen[, the new candidate].” “What’s the matter… he in trouble with the law? Not saying that I know him, of course, because I don’t[.]” “Ah, no… he’d like to MAKE the laws.” Emily scrambled desperately for a way to salvage the direction the conversation was headed. There was a pause as the woman digested what she’d just said. “Why does he need my permission for that?”
*I received a complimentary copy of this book for promotional purposes. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.*
Tons of fun, though I want more Brent and Emily right now, not next year! This fun little series has been the highlight of my summer, and I can’t wait to get the whole series in paperback. Definitely a series I recommend!
This series is so much fun! Emily is shaping up to be more than just an accidental spy in this book and I found myself giggling at different parts. I’m definitely looking forward to continuing with the rest of the series--but I'm going to try to ration them until there's news on the next books! ;)
2026 Reread Oh, this story was such fun to read again! From all the characters to the actions to the political campaigns, it was great!
2024 Reread Political campaigns, bomb threats, and Izzy! Enjoyed reading this story again. And I'm raising my rating.
2023 So much fun to read again. Just as enjoyable as the first three times I've read it.
2021 Such a fun story! Izzy comes again, and another agent gets to hang out. Not to mention Emily and Brent and all the excitement. Little pieces of paper had me grinning. Glad the next book is waiting on my shelf.
2019 Oh the delight of another story about Emily Abbott! This time we get to add politics. Having worked in several campaigns over the years, I’ve experienced the phone calling, the hand addressing, the decorating, and all the rest, so it was fun to see this in a story. And of course Brent has to have all his spy gadgets. But really, only one new code name for Emily? At least her new friend gave her a nickname. I loved getting to know a new agent in this story and seeing her with Emily. The two of them make a good team. And add Brent–yep, those bad guys had better watch out.
Overall, this was a delightful read that kept me reading, and smiling, and tapping my foot in hopes that they would hurry up in some places. (Note, it didn’t work.)
Guys, I think I’m in love. O.o. This book did all the things season finales are supposed to do and also blew me away with the complexity, danger, and cuteness.
I really enjoyed some of the Easter eggs to previous books, and the character cameos were the best. Emily’s quick thinking and out-of-the-box ideas really shone in this one, and it was fun to see another ICS agent thrown into her and Brent’s dynamic. It was go-go-go throughout the book, and because of that, Brent only had time to give Emily one codename. Honestly, I really like this one, and half-hope she gets to keep it. ;) They had a lot of sleuthing to do in this one since they weren’t sure for a while what they were up against.
But the DANGER, GUYS. Remember when Brent’s van blew up in the first book? O.o.
This case was especially interesting since they had to keep a low profile (a.k.a. hide from bad guys, bosses, best friends, and law enforcement) and not freak out any civilians while trying to solve this thing. Brent had some better disguises in this one, for sure. XD
Just a note, there was some peril.
Best quotes: “Hey, don’t hate on my kidnapping skills,” he said, cutting his eyes at her. She snorted. “You do realize like 90 percent of the conversations you and I have would sound so wrong in any other context, right?”
“Do you need a minute to rant about politics?” he asked. “Nope.” Emily checked her watch. “I actually have to get back to my desk.” “Oh, okay. Just wanted to give you the opportunity.” “I’ll take a rain check. You never know when it might come in handy to have someone ready to listen to a political rant.”
“Ah, yes, the security camera looper-thing,” Emily said. “Please tell me that’s the technical name for it.” “No, but it ought to be, if you ask me. It would make radio traffic during ops so much more amusing.”
Altogether, this was a fantastic season finale, and I need more. ;)
Series stats so far... Codenames: twelve and a half + one friend-assigned nickname Car crashes: still two, though some tires were abused Awesomeness level: 106%
A list of (tongue-in-cheek) demands for next season... I need titles and release dates for the entire next season, please and thank-you. I’m gonna need an Emily and Izzy sleepover scene complete with spy movies. More Zero. More Detective Frank. Ship, ship, shippity, ship.
Edited to add: there was a small formatting glitch that caused the text in a couple chapters to be a different size. It's now been fixed. :) Thank you to the lovely readers who gave me a heads up!
Well, look at that. It has a blurb. Oh, and it's on Amazon! HAPPY RELEASE DAY! To all who have been waiting for this one... wait no longer! Go forth and read!
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes--I could go on all day, but you would probably get tired of that. More coherent thoughts? I'll try...
Poor Brent, trying to keep Emily out of trouble and having her land smack-dab in the middle of it once again... I love his struggle between wanting to keep her safe and admiring and appreciating her natural talent for spy stuff. Loved seeing Izzy again and knowing that she's not dropping out of Emily's life! Really liked Agent Mirage and her unique skill sets. :D
Other random facts learned from this book: Brent is apparently more dangerous around a cell phone than around a car. Sharing cell phones can be really confusing. Good detectives can be a detriment to good spies. Brent's penchant for nicknames apparently isn't limited to just Emily. He also must be really good at what he does, or they'd have kicked him out a long time ago... Also, it's hard to breathe while laughing so hard. (That didn't happen in the book; it happened to me while reading the book.)
The one bad part of the book--having to wait until next year for season two. More Emily! More Brent! More Santa and Izzy and Agent Mirage and Detective Frank and everyone else! Bring it on!!!
Content--mentions of bombs and explosions; guns drawn; mention of cursing
Dear Ms. Kirkpatrick, your intimate knowledge of reader torture is suspicious at best. And now I have to wait for an entirely new series? Really? No way.
Would have deducted two stars for sheer betrayal, but... I'm nice. One had to go, though.
*Happy Sigh* this was another wonderful adventure in the series. I've been saving it and I'm so glad I did. This was funny, and oh so good! I can't wait for the next one!
Ahhh oh no I’m eating up this series too fast! I only have like 3 books left ahhh!!! So worth it tho. More amateur sleuthing and hilarious jokes! Onto the next one! 😁
The sixth and final book of the Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott went out with a bang. Literally... With one barista named Emily dead, Brett rushes Emily into hiding and sets her up with a job working for a political canidate. But danger follows her there, also. It's up to her, Brett in a FBI costume, and her friend working in the opposint canidate's office to get to the bottom of things before two political rallies blow up- and somehow evade Detective Frank in the process.
And the promise of a second season at the end of the book gives me something to look forward (and a reason not to send the author angry letters over the inconclusive ending...)
All right, where's season 2? ;) I was fangirling from page one, and while this seemed like it could have used a little "more" (more showing instead of telling, more about the 10,000, and of course, more banter ;)), I still really enjoyed this book. I love the MCs, I love the side characters, I love the many varied scenarios and settings in this book -- it makes my brain and heart happy. :D
Also, I think Brent and Emily need a ship name. Does one already exist? Otherwise, I would like to propose Bremily. Lol! (Seriously, guys, I'm not one for shipping, but these characters are just too much.)
Somehow I thought I had already reviewed this one, so I’m not sure how I missed it. This was one of my favorites of the series—lots of spy action, and Agent Mirage is a hoot! I love seeing Emily and Izzy together, too. And so many fun mental pictures, like Brent folded up under a desk to avoid detection and smashing his burner phone yet again. A highly recommended adventure in a highly recommended series.
This was an absolutely thrilling final installment of the series! Definitely recommended! I've heard rumors of a second season, and now with the way this one ended, there absolutely has to be the case. The problem is, I don't know if I can wait for it!
I love these stories. Brent and Emily are the cutest. And Izzy was back, which is awesome to see. Loved all the little cute moments and details... and I can’t wait to read the second season!!!
Wow, this was packed with brilliance! Every word was fun to read and it gave me anticipation for the next adventure! Emily just needs to be trained as a real spy and start working as one..it would make things a lot easier, you know?! :P
Just like the other books in the series, this is not a deep read, but definitely a fun one. Again, like many others in this series, I read it in one sitting.
This book contains a new character (Agent Mirage) and I loved getting to know her. Her personality was really unique.
Something I appreciated was how well politics was handled in this book by keeping it vague. Also, I love how protective of Emily Brent has become.
This book was a little sad because it made me realize just how difficult and how, yes, sad it is to live double lives e.g. as a spy.
The ending of this book seemed very abrupt, but I look forward to reading the next in the series.
Favourite quotes:
“‘I don’t think trouble is really attracted to me. I think I just have a tendency for wrong-place-wrong-time.’”
“‘Thanks for being my partner in crime,’ he said.”
“‘Emily is still with you? I thought you were all about keeping that girl out of harm’s way, Nighthawk.’ ‘Yes, sir. I am, sir. It’s… just been complicated and I’m failing spectacularly.’”
A cute conclusion to a cute series. My review for this one is similar to all the others: it's a great, entertaining quick read that makes me smile. There's a little bit of cheesiness, but I totally can tolerate it. The mysteries aren't super complex, but they're really interesting. The spiritual content isn't really here, but the book is clean.
I fully intend to get this series in paperback someday and look forward to the second season!
Five stars and then some. Finished in an hour (and it's the first time in a long while I've had 6 books read within a single day, BTW). This series is soooooooo good. =) RTC
Ok, I think this just topped Tutor, Nanny, Spit-up, Spy. And that's really saying something! I LOVED this book! Agent Mirage made a fun addition, and I really like Izzy, too. I really, really enjoyed the tech-geek side of things that this book included! I knew I liked that kind of thing, but I never realized how much I enjoyed reading about it. The romance between Brent and Emily is coming a little closer now, even if Emily is completely oblivious :D. I love when Agent Mirage said, "You two are very cute and all, but can someone step away for just a moment to get the door?" That might be my favorite line from the whole book.
Content: Squeaky clean, as usual! Still ramping up the danger, but not in a gory way at all. No cussing or anything inappropriate.
Slightly more "techy" than the others, we have more imminent threats from the terrorist organization, new secret agents to meet (who were all awesome), and of course, more burner phones being destroyed. Also love how every other phone call is Brent panicked about Emily's safety and she's like "nah, I'm fine." Love her and want her to just become an agent already!
The danger level was the best it's been yet in this series, and I hope it continues to build. I was so glad to see Izzy again. She really needs to be taken into their confidence and become an accidental spy too. We need a tech-savvy, non-filtered friend. Agent Mirage was a nice addition to the group. And Cinema is, by far, my favorite codename for Emily. I hope it sticks.
I can't fully express how much I've enjoyed this series and following along for all the chaos and adventure. The characters are so fun. The budding romance is squeaky clean and adorable. The spy situations are cheesy and unrealistic but so engaging and exciting. I can't recommend these books enough!
What I liked • This is a comedic spy series starring Emily and Brent. This book does not belong in the same genre as 007 or Mission Impossible. • Emily's and Brent's bantering will lighten your day. • Binge reading this series is fun. I am glad I discovered this new author. • You will need to read this series in order. • A person needs a good laugh and this series meets those requirements for me. • I will be reading more stories by this author to brighten my day. • This series is a clean read.
Characters: Emily was so much fun and Izzy was in it! And Izzy was just so cute and funny! I loved Agent Mirage and getting to see a little bit of detective Lark again! Brent was just as fun as always and his concern over Emily's safety! Awww! So sweet!
Language: N/A
Romance: I would definitely say they like each other but aren't admitting it to each other or themselves and it's so adorable!
Overall: I love these books! They are so easy to read and so much fun! Ack! Love them!
I may be…slightly…addicted to this series! Can’t seem to quit reading them! Perry, you’d better NEVER quit writing this series!! You have me laughing every time!!
