Do Something Beautiful for God is Mother Teresa's enduring invitation and challenge to the world. This is not an abstract invitation but a deeply personal and intimate one. There is so much happening in the world and so much happening within our own hearts, minds, and souls. All this makes it is easy to lose sight of what matters most and get absorbed in what matters least.
Mother Teresa is an icon of goodness, one of the most beloved women in history. How did she become so much to so many people? Little by little. Small acts performed with great love. You become an icon of goodness by striving to be good and by consistently doing good.
On these pages, you will find the essential teachings of Mother Teresa. They provide remarkable insight into the depths of her heart, mind, soul, and life. They will comfort you in your affliction and afflict you in your comfort. But most of all, in the midst of all this activity and noise of your life, you will hear Mother Teresa encouraging you by gently saying: Do something beautiful for God with your life!
Mother Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu[6] (born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, Albanian: [aˈɲɛzə ˈɡɔndʒɛ bɔjaˈdʒiu]; 26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), honoured in the Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta,[7] was an Albanian-Indian[4] Roman Catholic nun and missionary.[8] She was born in Skopje (now the capital of North Macedonia), then part of the Kosovo Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. After living in Skopje for eighteen years, she moved to Ireland and then to India, where she lived for most of her life.
In 1950, Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation that had over 4,500 nuns and was active in 133 countries in 2012. The congregation manages homes for people who are dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis. It also runs soup kitchens, dispensaries, mobile clinics, children's and family counselling programmes, as well as orphanages and schools. Members take vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, and also profess a fourth vow – to give "wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor."[9]
Following her death she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and canonized by Pope Francis.
I loved this book! It's such an easy, quick read, giving basically one tidbit of wisdom from Saint Mother Teresa to ponder each day. That being said, I read the whole book in one day. Her words are so meaningful and if every person on the planet took them to heart, the world would change overnight.
It's actually just a daily Mama T quote. You could linger with each and journal, but I just ate it up because she is 100% cute and profound. I screenshotted a handful of quotes, because her wisdom extends to motherhood and family life. So beautiful.
Keep in mind that this is more of a short devotional. It has a paragraph (some are only a sentence) from Mother Teresa for each day of the year to reflect on. Very touching!
Such a beautiful thought provoking book teaching us to sit in silence with God. This book is made up of Mother Teresa's collection of quotes and daily thoughts. She challenges our hearts, minds and souls on a daily basis to empty ourselves so God can fill us with his Love. Each daily verse opens us up to reflect on our challenges to show us how we can do beautiful things for God in such simplistic ways. I highly recommend this book in daily prayer.
Daily quotes from Mother Teresa. I tried to read each morning.
August 8: "It is easy to smile at people outside your own home. It is so easy to take care of the people that you don't know well. It is difficult to be thoughtful and kind and to smile and be loving to those you live with day after day. This is especially true when we are tired and in a bad temper or bad mood. We all have these moments and that is the time that Christ comes to us in a distressing disguise." (77)
While I am not sure that I understand the last part about Christ is a distressing disguise, but this quote reinforced something I have felt. I often gave/give my best to my employer or my friends, but give less to those at home, those that I say I love most.
I loved this book. Each day you will find a short thought/reflection from Mother Teresa. It will take probably less than a minute to read the thought of the day, but each have a powerful message that may stay with you throughout the day or longer. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to do spiritual reading but doesn’t think they have the time. This is a perfect book that you will look forward to reading everyday.
The local Catholic church in NJ provided this book compliments of Monsignor Puleo.
Mother Teresa's short writings (i.e., typically 1 -3 sentences) comprise each daily entry. While the entries are short, they are powerful and provide a springboard for thought, reflection, and a call to action.
The short biography "She Captured the Imagination of the Whole World" set the tone for the devotional entries and provided a glimpse into Mother Theresa's call by God.
This little book is packed full of daily quotes from one of the most faithful and selfless women to have ever lived, Saint Teresa of Calcutta (aka Mother Teresa). I loved starting my morning each day this year with a little nugget of wisdom from her. If you are looking for bite size inspiration, I highly recommend. It would also make a great gift!
An incredible collection of select sayings of one of the most admirable of human beings - the one and only Mother Teresa. Her words of wisdom read more like a book of proverbs than mere catchy sayings.
"Do Something Beautiful for God" is a wonderful daily reader. Each day you get a boost from Mother Teresa's wisdom. Her words are so wise. A wonderful way to start each day with a cup of coffee and joyful heart.
I read this book (mostly) daily as it was designed with a quote for each day of the year to ponder from Mother Teresa. Some I had heard before, but most were new. A few made me think. I enjoyed having a little tidbit from Mother Teresa to read every day, but I think there were a few repeats. I would have to go back through it to find them. This is a short book, though, so I could probably read it in a day and would not need an entire year to do so.
I read this in one sitting, and will continue to use it as a daily devotional. Absolutely beautiful. I am so grateful for St. Teresa's witness, love, and life and will continue to ask for her prayers. Reading her work and words has been life changing and transformative.
excellent and inspirational - read for the last year and then some - put it on the shelf for now, only to be sure to pick it up again in the future. Deeply resonant with prayerful, hopeful, cheerful advice for doing small things with great love!
This is such a wonderful book. It was a gift and I’m very thankful for having it. Such profound advice from Mother Teresa who was surely blessed with wisdom.
