Abigail Stewart won’t win any beauty contests, but she can talk to ghosts and saw the spirits of two children from a bygone era.
Heartthrob Wyatt Beaufort is all about football and pretty women but he holds a secret close to his heart that is preventing him from being the man he wants to be. To make matters worse Abigail has some kind of vendetta against him.
In a twist of fate, they are sent back in time to the California Gold Rush of 1852 where Abigail finds herself in the body of the Weeping woman, a beautiful Spanish singer.
Always sure of himself, confident, Wyatt now feels like a fish out of water. Struggling to fit in, wishing nothing more than to get back to his old life, when Abigail tells him the only way home is to stop a murder, Wyatt sets out to help her.
When Abigail starts to lose herself in her new persona, against all odds, Wyatt becomes determined to save her. But time is running out, and the murderer is still hiding in the shadows
Their struggle to save the children tests the power of a mother’s love and the true meaning of inner beauty.
Marianne Petit is a past President of the Long Island Chapter of the Romance Writers Of America.
Her love of writing stems back to high school. She spent hours reading Nancy Drew, Alfred Hitchcock and poetry. At the age of fifteen she wrote a short story for children, as well as numerous works of poetry.
Her love of history stems from her father, Roger, a Frenchman, whose love of American history greatly influenced her writing interests . “I love writing in different eras and learning all I can about that time period. I love immersing myself in the culture, the clothing, the environment and I do my best to make that era come to life on my pages. My first book takes the reader back to 1876, the year of the Little Big Horn. My second, back to the South in the 1700s. I digressed a little, with my third book a fantasy based on mythology, then I went to 1940 France and WW2 for my fourth. Behind the Mask is based on real life stories told to me by family and friends. This book is dear to my heart as I relived many of my mom and dads experiences durning this horrific time.”
Marianne is a past President of the Melville Lions club, a service organization that raises money for the less fortunate - especially the sight and hearing impaired. She devotes many hours giving back to her community and those in need. One of her favorite service projects is doing vision screenings for children. “We have saved the sight of a few children and helped a child’s ability to learn. Young kids don’t know they are seeing poorly, when they put on their “magic glasses”a whole new world opens up for them. Being a part of this project and knowing I played a part in changing a child’s life makes me proud to be part of the Lion family.”
Marianne lives in Huntington Bay Long Island with her husband, Steve, her dog, Penny and Simba the cat.
This is not my usual type of story but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the attention to detail with the descriptions of the surroundings and the way the characters developed together. I didnt want to put it down and stayed up late to try and finish. I would recommend.
A review of TIMELESS RIVER, an adventure/romance/time travel, by Marianne Petit. Abigail Stewart awakens one night to the sound of children calling for their mother; but she's alone in the room - there are no children there! The following day she drove down by the nearby river, when 2 children suddenly appeared on the riverbank, a girl and a small boy. "Tell the lady." The boy said to his sister. "She didn't-" and they disappear It occurs to Abigail that these must be the ghosts of the children of "The Weeping woman", who, according to an old local legend, were murdered by their mother in this river during the California gold rush. Now Abigail realizes that the so-called Weeping woman was innocent; and the ghosts of her murdered children were asking for her help! One day while parked in a picnic area at the riverside, she discusses the legend with her friend Cindi and are joined by other friends and acquaintances, including Wyatt Beaufort whom Abigail detests as a mean selfish showoff who failed to escort her to their high-school prom. Abigail decides to go in for a swim, and is closely followed by Wyatt. Out in deep water something pulls her under and she seems to drown. Then she surfaces and comes ashore wearing undergarments from the 1850's - and is in another woman's body! Abigail and Wyatt then find themselves in the midst of the gold rush in 1852. Can she and Wyatt reconcile their differences and save these children from getting murdered? A very good read told alternatively in the voice of each of the 2 main characters
Abigail (Abby) Stewart is a caring, smart, and courageous girl, but she lacks confidence in her looks and can’t get over Wyatt Beaufort—the football star and most popular guy in school who stood her up on prom night. Even though she keeps a low profile, this feisty redhead with the emerald eyes has a secret…she can communicate with ghosts. It seems that this ability and her obsession with the local legend of Lolita—the Weeping Woman—somehow sweep her back in time to the gold rush era. Abby finds herself trapped in the sexy body of Lolita while trying to prevent a gruesome crime. As if she didn’t have enough problems, the man who broke her heart and shattered her confidence is stuck back in 1852 with her. I enjoyed the way the characters evolved, facing unthinkable and dangerous situations while discovering strengths and qualities they didn’t know they possessed. Timeless River is a captivating time travel romance sprinkled with mystery and suspense. I enjoyed it immensely.
A wonderful tale of time travel. Two souls almost crown and travel in time and try to solve an age old mystery and save two young children from drowning in the past without changing history. Excitement from beginning to end. A must read! Full of passion, history, and many interesting details.
