He had made the ultimate sacrifice...only he wasn't really dead.
He signed their forms. He accepted their diagnosis. He welcomed the treatment.
He changed his name and disappeared.
Now he is treated as less than human. A pet, held in the Facility until he and his team are let loose on a government-sanctioned target.
Except this next target isn't some terrorist or criminal - it's a teenage girl on US soil - and the woman who stole his heart.
Jericho and his team may be a different kind of soldier, but they still hold to their moral codes and honor. Going against a direct order is not something they would normally consider...
The only reason this book got 3 stars out of me was because it had two tropes I love, Hybrid new species and bodyguard. When Jericho took that job as a bodyguard for Vice President Wilson's daughter and saw her governess Peyton I was like, YES!! Bodyguard love!! But all of the relationships were kind of boring. Even the fighting scenes were boring. They were actually really cool BUT took forever to get to the good part. I was so disappointed in the pacing of this story. And all of the easy ways things fell into place. It was too easy, too perfect, too boring.
I do say this though, I really enjoyed all the characters. I loved the main team and the other teams. I think I just loved the Hybrids. I absolutely loved Jericho and Peyton too. I loved how caring he was. He said it must be his wolf mix but he was just a good guy with a great heart. The fierce way he loved and took care of his team/family was beautiful. He saw Sarah and Peyton as his girls right away. And the rest of the team was pretty awesome. I mean Gideon was scary at first. Because the team was mixed with super human genes that came from animals some were given extra or wrong doses. I would love to read Gideon's story or Apollo's (New name Peter) story. But that's because I love reading stories about the messed up hybrids. Apollo's mind was messed with and he has issues. Which brings up another thing!!! The triad of Zeus, Apollo, and Aphrodite (Affie) was crazy. At first I thought I was making it up. But then I'd love their story. Honestly any of the characters. I loved this team but I also know they are not the only ones.
This series has so much potential. I can't wait for the next story to see where the author takes it. I really hope it's more fun now that all the bases are covered.
Thoroughly entertaining read. Jericho and his group of people are an elite group of operatives. They had been to hell to get that. Now, they are all living in pathetic bunkers, just to do the work required of them to do. The characters, especially Jericho was so well etched that I could almost visualize him. The plot and the premise and the villains and their interactions were also amazing. Loved it.
This was the first book in a new series to me. Jericho a soldier who when badly injured he agreed to be fix by a doctor who knew how to regrow destroyed body parts. It worked but the military twisted the doctors dream into something evil. He had met Peyton when on a mission and she gave him a phone number that he kept. They meet again when his team Review her and the young girl she takes care of Sam. The doctor had set up Jericho and the other soliders up with good lives. All the soldiers family had been told they were dead and buried them. This was a good read I liked the characters and the secondary characters as well. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This book was excellent! I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but after reading about Jericho's struggles, his hopes, his demons, I can't wait for the next installment. I went in expecting nothing, a blank slate. What I finished was spectacular! The characters feel like living, breathing people. Some of them so well-written and fleshed out that I feel as if I could almost reach out and touch them. The villains, some of them were just irritating, but some made my skin crawl and gave me chills. Lots of action, some heart-pounding moments and just a pinch of romance to add a little spice made Jericho a wonderful read, and one I would suggest to anyone looking for a great book.
This is an exciting and novel story about injured soldiers treated with stem cells to strengthen and repair them, and the negative attitudes they face. It is mostly well-written, but the conversation is pedestrian in places which makes it harder to accept the rapid acceleration of the storyline at times. Still, Jericho is a great character, and the premises is intriguing. It ends with a cliffhanger for an on going series
OMG! I loved this story! Jericho and his team of hybrids are an elite team of operatives, but they are different. They are kept in a bunker and nobody knows of them. They are treated as slaves, sub human. This is going to be an amazing series and I can't wait to read more!
This was so good! Well-developed characters, believable situations. Wanted to just keep reading and reading and reading....I can’t wait to read the next installment. I have also read the other two series by this author, and I would recommend these books too!
This story is absolutely amazing ! Perfect meshing of amazing worldbuilding and exceptional character development bring the story to life as you read! The story of Jericho and his team of hybrid operatives will pull you in from page one and leave you begging for more at the end ! I cannot wait to see what is in store for the team in the future ! 10/10..... a MUST read.
DNF 2nd star given for originality Started off well, aside from a few grammatical errors (capitalization of pronouns and switching between first- and third-person in group settings) I was pleasantly surprised and hopeful. The story line was intriguing and unique, characters and environment illustrated instead of just explained (I hate just being TOLD what something or someone looks like).
Unfortunately, I had to put this away about 35% through the book.
Jericho meets a woman while on a mission, they enjoy each other's company, and exchange info. Normal. Typical. I'm on board. The next conversation they have; 'Is it you,' she asked. 'Yes, babe. It's me. J.D. You safe to talk?' If you have to clarify your name, you aren't at the level to be calling her 'babe' (which should be capitalized, btw, as it is a pronoun). I felt like I missed 2 or 3 chapters of context.
Everything that happened from that point to the end of the chapter when I decided to quit was filled with plot holes and unrealistic scenarios. Perhaps I'm being overly harsh, but I just couldn't. Authors are granted the right to create the laws their story's universe are governed by. As a reader, I accept these laws and expect them to be kept. This is what caused me to put the book down less than half-way through. The author cannot change standing pretext of how their own world works just so the story can progress. If it cannot stand within those rules, then the story cannot stand.
This is the first book I've read from this author and I was more than excited to read it based on the blurb. The story turned out to be an okay read for me. I enjoyed Jericho, Kit, Kane and Cutter. Gideon and Rico were okay characters but I didn't feel as if they played a major part in this story. Rico was killed but I didn't miss him. This story had a good bit of action and the pace of it was okay but I feel like there were just too many characters introduced in this book. There was over 20 characters and I think I would have enjoyed this story more if the author gave us time to really get to know the characters instead of throwing them all into the story at one time. I liked Sarah and her governess Peyton. Peyton and Jericho barely spent time together before declaring their love for each other so this story would be great for readers that love insta-love. I prefer a little more anticipation. I feel like Sarah got over the death of her father too fast, yes he wasn't the best in regards to her but in the story she seemed to love her father and when he died she brushed it off and kept it moving. Kane and Jericho learn exactly why they can "twin speak" and get a chance to come face to face with a blast from the past. General George Carver wants all of the mutants as he classifies them dead and he will make it his mission to see it through. The end of this book did not leave me wanting to continue the series and although this was an okay read, I think I will stop at this book.
This is the first novel I have read by T.K. Eldridge and I am now sure it won't be the last! Jericho is book #1 In a series about humans who have been injected with a combination of human and animal DNA. Now they are being used as super enhanced soldiers doing black ops work for the government. T.K. Aldridge has done a wonderful job of building a fantasy world that explores within the plot of the story the concepts of ethics and government morals as well as basic human freedom. The characters are well developed and easy to relate to especially Jericho and his leading lady Peyton. I found myself holding my breath as Jericho tries to lead his team to real freedom. Every page had me on the edge of my seat, praying for success, as the plot took me on a roller coaster ride of twists and turns. There is suspense, mystery as you try to figure out who can be trusted and who are the villains. Very well done! Worth the time to read! There is minor cliffhangers not enough to have me screaming in frustration. The second book is readily available but I am forced by budget and a very full to be read shelf to wait before I can pick it up. That is mildly frustrating given I am dying to know what happens next. I will put the series on my very full wishlist!
Ex soldiers that have been badly injured are manufactured and experimented on with animal DNA and become super soldiers. Instead of given privileges they're treated like caged lab rats. Jericho is one of the team's leaders and this book is written entirely in his pov...( Well up until about 64% anyway!) I found the story really boring despite the great potential. They were sent on missions which, quite frankly, a human team could've done. He met his ' mate ', and immediately knew she was the one...I wasn't feeling it! The only romance you'll find is a kiss and cuddle then it's the next morning! Everyone was just too...polite! No bad language at all! Ok...I'm not saying there has to be the 'f' bomb every other word but come on...they're soldiers in bad situations. All they ever seem to do is eat! Really disappointed, hence why I didn't finish it, but I did find it free! It kinda reminded me of the Ghostwalkers series by Christine Feehan but tame , clean and weak. ( Check it out...totally brilliant!).
Jericho a soldier (one of many) who when badly injured agree to be fix by a doctor who knew how to regrow destroyed body parts. It worked but the military twisted the doctors dream into something evil. He had met Peyton when on a mission and she gave him a phone number that he kept because he knew they would soon meet again as she and the young girl she cared for would have to be rescued. The doctor had set up beginnings of a nice life for any of the soldiers he was able to save. All the soldiers family had been told they were dead and buried them. This is the story of how they had to live before they got free, how they get free, how they learn to work together and how love starts to find some of them. Two will find they are brothers and they father is involved. Can't wait to see where the next book goes.
Jericho fought and died for his county, so why is he still here? He's been turned into something unthinkable, an experiment that has brought him and others back with much more enhanced senses. They have been injected with animal DNA and now they have them doing their dirty work.
I never thought I'd feel whole, or normal again, but then I met Peyton on one of our missions, I have hope again, hope for a future with a woman who doesn't care that I'm different.
Then I find out that I have a blood brother in Kane and we find out that our father the general plays a part in all of this, but we will never again be controlled...
This series is going to be very exciting, I can't wait to read more.
There was a special compound that ‘revitalized soldiers who seem to have life threatening injuries. A Doctor used genetic therapy to regrow limbs and eyes using animal DNA. They were sent on missions deemed to be important to the United States. Suddenly, things changed and their compound was destroyed along with all the people there but thanks to the Doctor who repaired them, they found themselves in an out of the way hideaway. Spoiler alert: It was from the Doctor. They find themselves in a whole new situation with the possibility of a new life. Stay tuned…
This is one of the best books in this genre I've ever read. Can't wait to read the next one. This kind of genetic manipulation is currently going on. There are a few species that can regenerate lost limbs ...so why not us? With gene splicing and stem cell medicine almost anything is possible. Research and special technology will eventually make all sorts of regeneration possible. The politics and power are very real and coveted things as well as the betrayals to CYA themselves.
This is the first book I've read by T.K Eldridge and I have to say it's a genre I really enjoy - of humans that are not quite human - in this case, not by accident or their own choice - and the precarious lives they lead. I engaged with the characters, loved them, in fact, and instantly hated their enemies! I have more of this author's books in my digital library waiting to be read, as well as the next in this series and going by the two I've read so far, I have no doubt I'm going to enjoy them!
It’s a sweet military story with a little romance and a little action. After the initial action, everything sort of settles into a utopian paradise. Everything is perfect: every problem has a solution, any needs are immediately filled with endless money, every person finds a niche, no one argues or gets too drunk or breaks rules. It’s battle-hardened security teams with no trauma or soldiers vying for leadership. It’s not that the writing is bad, it’s just a nice story that goes out of its way to stay nice
This story will blow your mind once you start reading it. Jericho and his company of fellow soldiers have all been to hell and back and are now being treated as nothing more than "pets", highly trained pets. This book, the characters and storyline will draw you in and not let you go. You will get so invested and involved with Jericho and company that you will need to what happens next. I for one can't wait to see where this series goes.
I have been on a severe book binge for almost 4 weeks now and counting. T.k. loved it and loved the "father" being written in as a protagonist . There was a few area that felt too rushed or rather very feminine even though it was Jerichos perspective. I hope that you touched up on Kates back story. Look forward to reading the next book.
Action-packed story that follows Jericho and his team of modified soldiers as they complete missions and fight for their own freedom. I liked the story though I felt parts were rushed, like the feelings Peyton had for Jericho. I liked the storyline but felt it slowed toward the end. These soldiers deserve a happy ending and to have their stories told. I liked how the characters came together and look forward to the next book.
It raised a very important question. If we have hybrids, why don't we treat them as humans? But on earth, Humans aren't treated as humans. (Yes, I'm talking about people under the LGBTQ+ spectrum) Yes, humanity is that bad. We don't even treat people as people.
I want a good government. In every single book I read, the government is messed up. There was insta love. Well, it didn't matter to me because the guy really really deserves the love.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
2.5 stars It was Ok, but got really boring in the end. I didn't finish the last chapter, and skipped most of the previous one. A lot of things get solved too easily, and with no effort from the protagonists; that means a lot happens off the page and gets narrated instead of shown. And those were the things I would have liked to read about, not what they're having for breakfast or what websites they're purchasing furniture from.
An amazing plot that feels like it could actually be real. Too bad our government keeps so many secrets! The characters are unique and astonishing believable! The story seems so real that you can believe it is actually accurate and taking place as you read! It is an interesting idea, that totally makes sense! This is unbelievably, unquestionably, and unfortunately the way the men in politics with their powers would behave!
What can I say? I knew ten years ago this story had potential, but T.K. developed it into something extraordinary. The setting, the pacing, the wit... I loved it, and am definitely looking forward to the sequel. If someone is looking for a book recommendation, present them with this option. Very well done, and may we see many more titles written beneath your masterful hand!
This was a very nice book. I enjoyed reading about Jericho and his team and the struggles they had to go through to survive. The hope for the future they all have is inspiring throughout the story. The twist at the end for Jericho and another team member was my favorite and I can’t wait to see how the team handles the General in future books.
Be prepared for this book to leave you hanging and wanting to continue on to the next book. It's long enough to get you invested in the storyline and the characters. It's got the romantic elements without running over the plot with detailed love scenes. A clean enough read for a young adult.
I really enjoyed Jericho and Payton’s story. It had the right amount of action, adventure, love interest and family. The author is not big on over sexualized scenes and that was fine by me. There were a few surprises that you didn’t see coming and one big surprise at the end.
