I’m the only female smoke-jumper in Northern California. Fighting wildfires surrounded by sweaty, chiselled, axe-wielding hunks.
I could usually ignore the gorgeous men around me... Until I met the three of THEM.
Foxy, the tattoo-covered goofball who’s always making jokes--and who smiles like he wants to tell me a secret. Derek, the pretty-boy blond who has been flirting with me since jump school... And who harbours a dark past. Trace, the shredded six-foot-six weightlifter. Thighs like ripped tree trunks, with the ability to easily lift me with one arm.
Now we’re all living in the same barracks. Eating together. Fighting wildfires together. Playing together.
But if we’re not careful? Getting caught will be the least of our worries.
Because the raging wildfires in California aren't the only dangers we face.
Someone is sabotaging our gear. Sending us on missions too dangerous for normal smoke-jumpers.
And if we don’t stop them soon? Our sizzling love affair will go up in smoke.
SMOLDER is a scorching, stand-alone MFMM Reverse Harem love story filled with humour, suspense, and a race-to-the-finish ending that will leave you sweaty and breathless. HEA guaranteed!
Cassie Cole is a romance author living in Norfolk, Virginia. A polygamist/polyamorist at heart, she thinks Romance is best when served in threes, fours, and fives!
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙🖤💚❤️ Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎 Character development: 😚😔🤓🥰
The heroine:Haley - she is former Air Force and is the only female in the heavily male dominated field of smoke jumping in Northern California. The job is an especially dangerous one and takes a lot of effort, ability and stamina. She just graduated from smoke jumping school in Idaho. She had been a volunteer firefighter at home in North Carolina prior to smoke jumping school.
The Heroes:Fox, Derek & Trace - smokejumpers at Redding Base. Foxy - a tall, muscular, tattooed covered goofball. He is former Navy and was on the fire control team on an aircraft carrier. Derek - blond haired and blue-eyed all-American boy next door. He was a bit of a flirt. He and Haley were best friends in smoke jumping school. He spent six years in the Army Rangers before he became a smokejumper. Trace - he is one of the smokejumper team leads at the Redding California base. He ends up getting the job to lead the three rookies in a four-man team. He is a former marine and has been a smokejumper for over five years now.
The Story: After graduating from smokejumper school, Haley, Foxy, and Derek are all assigned to the same base in Redding California where there is currently a wildfire that is out of control and reinforcements are sorely needed. The Shasta wildfire has already severely injured six smokejumpers and people just out of smoke jumping school usually aren’t sent to hot areas like that right after they graduate. Derek thinks their assignment has some shady reasoning behind it, but he can’t do anything about it.
I knew from reading many of Cassie Cole’s other books, that this one would really dive into the lives of the smoke jumpers. She is terrific at world building and really does the research on what she writes about, whether it be crypto currency, ski patrol or smoke jumping. I love that her books are so detailed, and it really brings you into the world you are reading about. That is why I keep reading her books and I think once I get through them all, I will be hard pressed to find another author that is such a great storyteller.
I also love the way Cassie Cole is able to write such steamy reverse harem romances that seem to have just the right balance between hot intimate scenes and the story. She is terrific at character building and I love the fact that her reverse-harem romances are always with three guys and one woman. Some of the RH romances out there tend to have too big of a ratio of Heroes to heroine that the individual Hero characters get lost, and it not only gets confusing to the reader as to which character is which, but there are just too many intimate scenes and not enough story building.
Though I do have to say, I was a bit turned off by how quickly Heather broke her own rules and got intimate with the guys while at the base. She went on about how a woman among so many men would be teased and treated like a slut if it came out that she slept with one or more of her coworkers. Though each of the smokejumpers had their own room, it certainly didn’t take long before she was hooking up with Foxy in her room and really anyone could have found out easily enough. It seemed very unprofessional to me.
I really liked the story about the wildfires though and there was some intrigue about the team being put into very dangerous situations by someone that might be out for revenge on one of them. That was really interesting. The steamy scenes were really steamy, including menage with toys and more. Though I don’t see how they could have done all that in Haley’s room at Redding base without being found out. But hey, if I was one of the smokejumpers and I saw that some of the other ones were relieving their stress in the privacy of their own room. I would say let them be.
After finishing this book, I now know everything I ever wanted to know about smokejumping. Actually, I know way more than I ever wanted to know about smokejumping. Handlines, anchor points, Pulaskis. The list is endless. While I admire the research the author put in, for me it was overkill.
After the first jump, I just didn't care anymore. I got it already - chop trees, dig soil, rake leaves. I really didn't need to read about the procedure over and over and over again. I'd say 75% of this book is spent on detailing smokejumping procedures, which left about 15% for the revenge storyline, and a measly 10% for the actual relationship. And since there are four people in this "relationship", that's really not enough time to learn anything about them.
Of the three guys, Trace is the only one who felt fleshed out and had any substance. Derek and Foxy felt more like props or stand ins until the real relationship could start. Personally, I think the book would have worked better as just a regular m/f romance since the other guys came across as unnecessary fillers.
I also have a big issue with the fact that Haley sleeps with Trace before he's aware that she's sleeping with the other two guys, and she doesn't discuss it with Derek or Foxy before or after it happens. It's actually Trace that lets it slip. It just feels like cheating to me. And added to that, she's not using protection with any of the men.
Yes, I know this is a work of fiction, but I still want the relationship to feel somewhat believable. There really didn't seem to be much of any relationship in this book at all. It was just firefighting scenes with random sex sprinkled in. And not even really good sex. Mostly just Haley screaming where she wanted the guys to put it.
This RH veterans-turned-smoke jumpers was awesome! 🔥
Super fast paced and action packed!! (double meaning if you know what I mean 😉😉)
Loved the relationships that developed between all of the characters and it really sucked you into the story and had you needing to know what happened next! ❤️🔥
Definitely recommend if you like spicy RH action books! 📚👍🔥👩🚒👨🚒👨🚒👨🚒🪂

Really brilliant book ,story and characters were so good I had to give it maximum stars.
You almost forget it’s a reverse harem , that is secondary to the plot and fits the storyline perfectly. Not as in some books as an excuse for more sex scenes.
Haley, Derek and Foxy have just completed their training as smokejumpers and have been assigned to the most dangerous fire area in the US state forests in Redding California. All three graduated at the top of their class. Derek believes that the commander of the training facility has it in for him because he was in charge of a platoon in Syria and the commanders son was left behind during an evacuation and he died.
The three of them have been close during their training and the men had crushes on Haley and she was attracted to them. But the only one who she actually had any kind of physical relationship with was Foxy. But once they arrived Derek becomes a little jealous, but Haley invites him in for a threesome.
There is a lot of hazing going on with the new recruits and they stick together against the rest of the team. They are put into a separate group where they have a team leader by the name of Trace. Hayley is attracted to him as well. Things get dangerous out in the frontline of the fires, and it seems that is is always their team where things are happening to them. Then suddenly they are surrounded by fire and Hayley and Trace are fighting for their lives. They find their way out and are rescued, but they end up having a wildfire of their own to put out in Haley’s room that night. The danger seems to follow these four and Derek shares his concern with Haley and she is concerned.
Their commander is suddenly fired for his teams being constantly involved in danger and suddenly the commander Wallace is now in charge of the Redding teams. Derek confronts him but he denies everything. But then suddenly the four of them are on a plane that suddenly things happen to it and they have to evacuate the plane and all their equipment is damaged or disabled. They are on their own. Things heat up with lots of knuckle biting moments and then they are found and heads roll.
This book is filled with action, be it in the bedroom or out fighting fires. You won’t be bored.

WOOOOOHOOOO SUPER HOT READ!!!!! Hailey loves being a smokejumper. She was the only female when she was training but thankfully she had two guys that had her back. Derek and Foxy. She was attracted to them both but it wasn't until the last night that Foxy made his move after they had been out celebrating with the other guys for completing their training. But they agreed they couldn't go all the way as they might get stationed together and it could be uncoverable. Low and behold all three of them get stationed to the worse place possible, Redding Base they had been fighting wildfires for weeks even losing men in there teams. Foxy and Hailey were excited but Derek seemed to have something on his mind that he wouldn't share with them. What could he be hiding and why did he look so pained when he was lost in thought?? When they got to Redding Base it soon became apparent that they were going to be treated like the new kids on the block. They were put with Trace and set out on tasks and it wasn't long before Hailey started to feel an attraction to him. Who would she choose? Foxy? Derek? Trace? or would she want all three?? This is one hot read and the twists and turns just keep coming. They will keep you gripped till the very end. I loved the banter and the way they know and trust each other both out on task and back at base. Each brings something new and exciting to the story and the storyline is brilliant. I cant tell you now much I have loved this book. I kept me up all night as I couldn't put this book down but being tired today is worth every second I was reading this book. Super excited to read more from Cassie Cole

I freakin loved this book! The way the author writes, the storyline, the attention to detail - everything. This is what makes a great book.
I am fairly certain I can have an intense talk with someone right now about smoke Jumpers. Lol. And know my stuff! Haha. Thanks Cassie Cole!!!!
This story was so intense, I loved every minute. I devoured this book!
Haley Hinch - a kick butt female in a male dominated world who has to work twice as hard with twice as much grit. Smoke school - meets Derek and Foxy. Instant attraction. Then school is over and they get assigned together to one of the most dangerous spots near Shasta County in CA.
(Being from N. CA myself, I knew exactly what they were talking about with regards to the types of fires we have and how dangerous they can be - this added to my overall effect of this book)
Team Leader Trace is amongst one of their new colleagues and Haley can’t help her attraction to the third man in the room.
Missions are called. Fires are flaming. Haley is kicking butt and taking names all while 3 guys are watching her every move. When sabotage is on the rise and questions are made - can they make it out of the fire alive? Together???
This is a book you don’t want to miss! Really, read it ASAP!!!!! I loved it. Even after the extended epilogue, I’m mourning for more!!!!
*Overall 5/5 *Heat? 4/5 *Story 5/5 *MFMM Romance (No MM) *First person POV all main characters *No triggers (unless you are maybe a firefighters spouse?) *HEA? Yes!!!
I maybe should not confess to reading this story. Yes it does have some xxx bits in it but that is not the main focus of this story. It is about smoke jumping. Where trained people parachute into the edges of a fire "The primary strategy of a smokejumper was indirect firefighting. Remove a fire's fuel so that it couldn't advance. That involved cutting handlines in the forest, which were long roads where all potential fuel - trees, shrubs, and undergrowth-has been removed" It is hard hot long work and I had never heard of it before. So I found this story interesting and actioned packed. It was my sort of story.
Haley is a smoke jumper and she falls for Foxy, Derek and Trace. They are trying to keep their relationship a secret but also need to work as someone is sabotaging their gear. Will they find out who it is before someone is hurt? Fast-paced reverse harem read with loads of drama and lots of steam. The story has plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked from beginning to end and the chemistry is off the chart hot. I loved it!
great action. 🔥in Shasta smoke jumpers deployed. FMC only female on team. former military. life & death situations and mystery of who is sabotaging her. 💯🔥‼️❤️

Fin heureuse garantie !
DNF chapter 5. I liked the premise but just couldn’t get into this. I didn’t connect with the writing, the MCs, the dialogue, the pacing, the story, or the MCs’ inner thoughts. It felt off to me or like something was missing idk. Everything felt very stiff/mechanical. There wasn’t any emotion or depth, and the MCs felt shallow. I was bored and started skimming, wondering if my feelings would change, but unfortunately, they didn’t. Just wasn’t for me.
This was an okay book, but I was a little bored by all the smokejumping details.
I was hoping there would be a bigger focus on the relationships but I almost don't even wanna classify this as a romance. It's mostly just sex up until the very end when they suddenly decide they want more.
The sex was hot but also really cheesy. It veered into bad porno territory at times.
I really enjoyed Haley, Fox, Derek & Trace's story. Good characters. There was lots of chemistry, heat & mystery. Kept me on the edge of my seat at times. I received a free copy of the book. And am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Okay, that was pretty hot This Was my second book by Cassie Cole. I've read 1 and a half more before getting to this review and I've noticed that all her books that I've read have a few things in common. The Heroine is a driven professional woman with years of training in her field. She has a goal, a dream, a passion for her work and the discipline to get the job done. She is competent. She knows her profession and is damn good at what she does. The Heroine usually has a good support network of people and men who know she is good and can get the job done. Even guys who will not become a love interest give her respect. I love this- I get very worn down reading nasty misogynistic A-hole characters. I know that they are all too real, and that they are everywhere. I hate those pricks. They make the world a worse place. It's nice to find a fantasy world where they hold less sway. The Heroine is not afraid of her power or ashamed of her passion. This girl grabs the reigns and takes charge when needed, at work and in bed. She knows she can kick ass and isn't squeamish, and when making love she does not hold back with guilt, shame, or self doubt. That is so hot. The Heroine was a complete person before the man (lol Men) show up in her life. She might fall in love with all three of them, but she didn't need them to do her job, or to save her, or to convince her she has worth. Lastly, Cassie Cole does her homework. She writes very knowledgeably about every topic she covers whether it's grad school, Law enforcement, or veterinary medicine. She gets the details right and is usually spot on about the locations from California back country to the streets of Boston.
-Okay. Let's talk about this book Smolder. This wold be a good book even with the sex scenes cut out. (glad they weren't) Wile I personally doubt that the U.S. Forestry Dept. is quite that militaristic, it works in this story so I give that a pass. I got a little bugged that Haley was into a guy who was being a prick to her, but that's not my choice. I didn't like it but I knew he'd come around (eye-roll). The bit where a forestry base commander endangers the lives of fire fighters to get one guy should have been insultingly preposterous, but Cassie's chops at the keyboard make it an acceptable plot point that you know wouldn't happen in real life. -Oh, and the sex is incredible, so there's that too.

This book was so great! I really enjoyed reading this. There was so many moments where I would just burst out laughing, my husband kept looking at me like I had lost my damn mind lol, and the steamy scenes in this were perfection!!!!! Really thought out story and I'm glad this was not just about sex and that sex was the main point of this book, it was that and so much more! I loved our characters, and I loved there relationship, badass female fine ass men, great combo lol.
Let me start by saying I have read quite a few RH books, and this is my first from Cassie Cole. Some stories have the kind of character development and story line that take several books to fulfill everything you want to know. Other stories are a quick steamy ride.
I was blown away that this story had both, perfectly combined into one book. We got to see all 4 characters POV, and not just the main FMC. I love stories that give you both. I felt that we got to know everything we needed to about each character to make this story work.
I was also completely surprised that in just one book I felt all the feels. I laughed, and rejoiced with the characters, but also found my heart ripped out and tears coming down my face when they thought all was lost. Then at almost the end I found myself crying with joy and surprise when the plot twisted. I also didn't find the story very predictable as so many RH stories are when told in just one book. It took a little guessing and paying attention to some of the clues in the book to have a suggestion at what might be coming. The only thing I found truly predictable was that in the end no matter what they went through they still were going to get their HEA. But man was the ride worth it!
I'm looking forward to my next book from Cassie Cole, you ma'am have a reader for life!
The romance and characters fell flat for me. I also really struggled with the FMC. She was constantly mentioning how much harder she had to work as a female in a male dominated profession—which fair enough, is true—but she turned every issue into an attack on her gender. She didn’t get sent on the most dangerous assignment her first day on the job as a certified smokejumper? Obviously it’s because her superiors see females as weak, and has nothing to do with the fact that she’s a rookie and the other teams were more qualified as veterans.
Title: Smolder by Cassie Cole Interconnected Series: No Standalone: Yes Cliffhanger: No HEA: Triggers: Tags/Tropes: ➢ Firefighters-Smokejumpers ➢ FMC-in-Male-Dominated-Field ➢ Military-Romance ➢ Workplace-Romance ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This book started out strong, but gradually fizzled out and became kind of boring.
There's too much focus on the technical aspects of smokejumping and creating handlines, to the point that it sometimes felt like I was reading a manual or attending a lecture. In fact, there's a whole paragraph that's an actual, verbatim excerpt from a manual.
All those words wasted on technical stuff and boring manual labor would have been better spent on character and relationship development. There's no character growth, no emotion in the way Hailey's relationship with the guys develops.
As for the writing... It's pretty inconsistent, and the narration style sucks. I don't remember exactly how old the characters are, but they're all on their late twenties or early thirties. And yet, their behavior, internal monologue, and narration style is that of a bunch of teenagers. It was pretty jarring to me. They're all supposed to be badass military veterans, but that's only told and never shown on the page.
I'm giving this three starts instead of one just because of the effort the author put into researching and integrating aspects of smokejumping and firefighting into the story instead of just glossing over it, which is the case for far too many authors out there.
I found it a little hard to get into Smolder, which is really unfortunate because I love Cassie Cole's work. Don't get me wrong, the spice was nice (loved the addition of the toys), and the characters were fun, but I just wasn't captivated by the book.
I was a little disappointed in Haley's character. She was the anomaly: woman in the Air Force, woman in the smoke jumpers, but Cassie didn't really lean into that. I wanted to see her be an absolute beast and impress her guys and her fellow teammates. I feel like she kind of faded into the background a bit despite being the "outlier" so to speak.
The plot itself was alright. I thought it got a bit repetitive in places, and some parts felt underdeveloped. I thought the whole thing with Wallace was a little abrupt; I would've liked to see that play out a little more. Despite the entire book being about something incredibly dangerous, I didn't really feel that dread and sense of danger present while I was reading. I never truly felt like anyone was about to die, even with the couple close calls.
This one was okay. Not my favourite by her, but that's a pretty high bar to reach at the moment.
Not really a Military Romance but a Veteran Romance
Yes, I know an other Reverse Harem book. I do enjoy a good Reverse Harem, this is not one of my favorites. I orignially wanted to read it because it is advertised as a Military Romance book, while there are veterans from all the branches it is not what I would call a "Military Romance." This book is about four Smokejumpers, and how their relationships all progress. Now, a lot these Reverse Harem books are not realistic but part of this book is a little too far fetched for me. Having said that I did like the little bit of Thriller aspect that this book has, with a man hell bent on revenge throwing these four into extreamly dangerous situations. Giving this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
This book has a great sex scenes! Either with one, two or three men at a time. There are moments that will get your juices flowing, some leaving you worried about the out come of the situation and others want to yell at the people for the situations that they find themselves. I give this a Manzano Pepper rating, some with super sexy moments that will have looking for those partners.
I hope this helps you find your next Tantalizing Tome!
What I liked: learning about wildfires, smoke jumpers and the work that is entailed. I also liked that they were stationed first at the McCall base and then Redding base.
What I didn’t like or felt was lacking: the characters. They were all fine but EVERYONE was in love with Haley. Why? She did didn’t have a sparkling personality. I felt it was mostly down to her being the owning female and she was pretty. That’s the combo that made 3 men fall at her feet. Ok. The spicy scenes were lacking depth and protection. No condoms when you have 3 partners?!?! That’s not safe or smart. She also repeated that she didn’t want to appear promiscuous yet she abandoned her ideas on that quickly. We never see them having deep conversations yet they all fall in love? Ok. 👌🏻
I just felt overall this book was boring and unrealistic in the romance department but I liked the smoke jumper aspect.
I especially love a story where you learn new things...Cassie Cole does an excellent job of portraying experiences so you feel like you have learned something new, and enjoyed a bit of fiction as well. I love the hunks and the Lady they fall for... I think reverse harem is becoming one of my favourites. I never knew much about firejumpers but this story is all about that experience... Including the scary and the hectic parts. It was very fun how her three men all kinda just figure out sharing is the best thing... Got to love a voyeuristic group of dominant men too. I would give this one 10********** it's very very good. Read the Bonus it seems like it should have been included in terms book, it's a tiny bit sad they seem to keep it secret but pregnant and children that's hard to hide.
Hailey is a former Air Force woman who left and went home to become a firefighter in her home town. At the jump school she meets two other jumpers, former military men, Fox(y) and Derek. After they pass they;re sent to the hottest spot for jumpers..California where a fire has been going off and on for years. There their commander, Trace, is a hard nose but has to be because he doesn;t think of himself as a leader. Now these four are together working while Trace sizes up these rookies. But with the wild fires burning it;s all hands on deck and things get hot not only because of the fire but the fire that starts to heat up between these men and Hailey. Fantastic story to read with lots of action. There is alot that is learned about what it takes to be a jumper as well as a firefighter.
