BAD. BEAT. Robin Mahle A connection with Carl her grandfather tore thru her and knowing he was gone. Captain came to take Riley , to have a final look, a touch, to know what his final thoughts were. A deck of cards, a Queen of Spades what was the meaning of them. Then to be informed about back room poker games going on at the Crooked Bar. Cops have been checking it, of which the owners there have gotten antsy. Even the players have gotten into scuffles, and the stakes have turn higher. Trouble is coming, Riley knew, just didn’t realize how much. A captivating plot from the dramatic beginning you feel Riley’s pain.. The story shows how she is moving on with her life, and the closeness to Jacob. Another winner for the author, that readers will love. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Riley isn't just any police officer, she has a gift. Having just lost her dear friend who was like a grandfather to her, she's having a rough time. She knew exactly when he died and sometimes she knows what people are thinking. Still, you can't prove anything without evidence so she still has to work cases like any other normal police officer. When her boyfriend, Jacob, finds out his co-worker is missing they immediately start working the case. There's lots of mystery and work to solve this case but so much more too. I enjoyed this book from the very beginning and definitely recommend it to others. Kidnapping, crime, a psychic gift and suspense! What else could you ask for in one book? Five stars
Starting off with a domestic murder and going down from there. Riley's "gift" life just keeps interfering with her job. They other cops are expecting her to spring into action and solve the problem but it doesn't work that way, and she is trying to keep it under control rather than it controlling her.
