On Isla Mujeres, a tiny island off the eastern coast of Mexico, two twenty-something women find themselves in possession of a seemingly authentic treasure map, which leads them on a chaotic search for buried treasure while navigating the dangers of too much tequila, disreputable men, and a killer. And there is a dog, a lovable rescue-mutt. Hung over from a night on the town, it is late in the afternoon before Yasmin starts to worry that her boyfriend Carlos hasn’t been seen all day. And then the texts start “Give me what I want!” A mysterious disappearance of a local man and the looming threat of hurricanes headed towards the peaceful Caribbean island of Isla Mujeres create havoc in the lives of Jessica and her rescue mutt, Sparky. Romance and revenge. Drug cartels and human trafficking. Isla Mujeres, a tiny island paradise in the Caribbean Sea, is rocked by a power struggle between a Mexican cartel and a Romanian gang as they battle for control of the illegitimate ATM skimming. Big changes are coming for Carlos and Yasmin, while Jessica Sanderson fends off an angry lover from her past. Sparky, Jessica’s stocky beach mutt is once again at the centre of another Sparky-situation.

Death in the Vineyard Mysteries; love, lust, and loot in the affluent Okanagan wine region
Isla Mujeres Mysteries; sun, sand, and tequila with a twist of murder and a dash of revenge.
The quirky cast of characters, plus Sparky the multi-breed rescue pooch, scramble to solve the mysteries and catch the bad guys.
Sparky is an island beach-mutt who invited himself into our lives in 2013. He walked into our house one evening at dinner time, and never left. He has curly terrier fur covering pink and black polka-dotted skin and long silky Spaniel ears. His front paws are larger than his back ones and his sense of smell is extraordinary.
I have a very diverse, some might say eccentric, work history that frequently sneaks into the backstory of my main characters. I have been a bank clerk, antique store owner, ambulance attendant, volunteer firefighter, supervisor of a cutting-edge transit control center, partner in a Canadian micro-brewery, partner in an awarding winning bed and breakfast, and a hotel manager.
If you can’t get away to a tiny island in the Caribbean, reading books set on the island is the next best thing. Here’s a Kindle boxed set of five books describing life on Isla Mujeres off the Yucatan peninsula and also providing some good mystery stories. Tropical paradise? Check. Pirates and buried treasure? Check. Two 30-ish women looking for the treasure while being shadowed by mysterious men? Check. Island men coming to the aid of the two damsels in distress? Check. Romance? Check, check. A loveable stray dog that helps solve the mysteries? Check. A happy ending? Of course.
The five books are the work of Canadian author Lynda L. Lock who retired to the island with her husband and began publishing the series in 2016. As a first-time novelist, her plots and character development improved with each of the books. One thing that remained constant throughout the series was her attention to details in describing places and people and events and customs on the island. If you close your eyes and let your mind wander you can imagine being there with her characters on the soft sand and in the small beach restaurant where the two women work shifts. Overall, it’s easy reading and will probably make you look forward to her next book. I am.
This book series stays true to the essence of Isla Mujeres. The cultural references made throughout are accurate and the main character being Canadian is also true to the island demographics and wide range of visitors and expats including the U.S. and Canada. Easy fun read for anyone who lives there or wants to visit this beautiful island.
Great story, exceptional writing, suspense and mystery throughout

I have been fortunate enough to have visited Isla Mujeres three times over the past nine years. It is truly as beautiful and friendly as depicted in these books. I loved reading about some of the places I have been to. Looking forward to the next book!
