The Idle System #5

The Puppet Master

Rate this book
When you go to sleep, the world doesn't rest with you.

As John's closed-door cultivation continues, Sarah decides it's time to make a name for herself.

Her goal of sharing her knowledge of medicine comes to fruition by offering to teach a few apprentices for the Sword sect.

Unfortunately, knowledge is sometimes best kept secret.

For one can teach an art, but not the ethics behind it.

Dive into the new issue of The Idle System -- this time, from Sarah's perspective. You won't want to miss it. A woman's touch can be especially unique in a universe filled with planetary destruction and bloodline exterminations.

YAY I loved that this picked up where book 4 ended. I was so obsessed with how it ended and was happy to find that they actually became buddies. I loved reading this story from Sarah's point of view. She takes the high road alot and is pretty low key but I believe between her and John she is the more dangerous of the two only cause she could kill you and you wouldn't even know it until you died and would never suspect her of doing anything. John is a blunt hammer while she is a scalpel. I wonder will their kid get a system too? If so that would be awesome.

Alert

I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.

So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Now, since I have to keep explaining myself to people who don't like my reviews, I guess some clarification is in order.

1. I am 100% against criticism for works of art. Art is subjective, meaning reviews are irrelevant. The observer's opinion is only relevant to the observer. It is my belief that regardless of what others might say, I have to experience the art for myself.

2. I read upwards of 20 books a month. The $10/month I spend on K U, feels like I am cheating the authors. But since I can't afford 20 books a month if I were to purchase them directly, all I can offer is a positive review. That leads us to the final point.

3. If I get to the end of a book, then it was worth my time. I give those books 5 stars because it helps the author get exposure. That is the only reason I write reviews at all.

I understand that people are people and they are going to do what they do regardless of my stance. I know the way that I review books upsets some people. I am sorry they feel that way but as many have said, they will just ignore my review going forward. In fact, if you made it this far through my review, you should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews here. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

Cheers

Sarah does her thing.

Great to see the world from Sarahs’ point of view. A far gentler perspective but with a touch of Johns’ influence coming through. Definitely worth reading.

Sarah's POV

It was a decent read. I was looking forward to reading more about John but it worked out. Can't wait until the next one is out.

Loved it

Writing style gets better with every book. Can't wait for the next book to see how John handles the war and his demon side. Loved hearing more about Sarah.

Great book

This book took a step in the right direction when telling a different perspective from other cultivation books.
Which I didn't know I wanted until I read it.

Great book

At first I was confused about the shift in mc to Sarah and thought the book wasn't going to be as good as the read of the series, because I like reading about John, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely recommend this book and can't wait for the next one.

This is a review of books 1 through 5.

This is a unique system of litrpg & cultivation, using an "idle" system like phone games, etc. It is litrpg because the Main Character sees a screen which displays stats/ranks/levels, skills, etc. It is cultivation because of the way the system is setup, and the use of beast cores, etc.

Book 1: This is a great introduction into the series. The book is not as masterpiece of literature, but it is very entertaining and worth my time. My thoughts are that the MC is too OP(overpowered), too quickly, and it moved extremely fast. I assumed he wrote himself into a corner, and book 2 couldn't possibly be interesting, yet I was wrong.

Book 2: This book dramatically expands the scope of how strong the MC is. He may be strong, but that is nothing compared to others around him. This book goes a long way towards showing that he is very strong, but not unbeatable.

Book 3: The MC is OP again, taking on people far above his power level.

Book 4: So OP its not even funny. It is even funnier because the author swears up and down that the MC isn't OP. I mean, he is so OP he , yet according to the author, "he was only able to do it because of a special set of circumstances and abilities." Yes, the ability of being overpowered. lol

Book 5: I didn't think I would like this book since it is told from Sarah's Point of View, not the MC. However, I got into it very quickly. While I still prefer reading through the MC's PoV, this might be my favorite book of the series and

Overall,

This series is great and definitely worth reading. Unfortunately, it is held back by editing and a real lack of struggle from the MC. At this point, I am mostly reading it to see how ridiculous the MC can become.

Boring.

I was interested in reading a book about Sarah since hers and John's story from book three was the last good one. But she suffers from the same problem as John. Together they work, they are interesting and fun. Apart, boring, predictable and lost. Neither shows any real direction in their actions, just bouncing from event to event. Now that there levels differ, I doubt they'll be together in a book and there goes any interest in reading any more of this series.

Can she do it Alone?

Sarah has 9 1/2 years to raise her skills while John is off cultivating his power. In that time she has a lot of sadnesses that she has to work through, without her husband, and power through it she does.
When John returns, he saves her and their guild, but is forced to leave again.
The ending is rough!

This was mostly sad with some good.

A refreshing perspective

This book is told from Sarah's point of view, which is a fantastic viewport into the life of a Sider who is not John. A great book, looking forward to what comes next

Nothing else striked me as entertaining... so I picked this up.

This wasn't too bad. I thought the wife protagonist would have been a bleeding heart, but this turned out okay. The ending also has me excited for the next book.

Such a great novel

I really enjoyed this novel. Just from expanding and experiencing Sarah's story more in depth was really pleasant. The struggles and joys she goes through really develop her character. Really enjoyed the ending.

Filler!

I actually enjoyed this story. I didn't expect too but the old adage 'don't judge a book by its cover', is what convinced me to read it.
