As someone who has anxiety and depression, I am SO DISAPPOINTED. I've been following Liana for years but this book was not helpful at all. It pains me to write this review, but I have so many problems with this book:
1) I have her past three books, and THIS one is full of recipes that are exactly the same as recipes in her past books, but with an "anxiety-free" list of benefits. I truly think she copy-pasted her past recipes with an "anxiety" twist and called it a day. There are a few new recipes, but many of them are just a chance to feature her "favorite brands" (see point 4) which probably paid her for a mention. I would not buy/read this book just for a handful of new recipes and dozens of ones she's already published more than twice.
2) She starts off with a disclaimer that she's only going to focus on the physical/nutritional aspect of anxiety (most certainly a cop-out in case someone doesn't like the book) and how medicine CAN help in some cases of anxiety. Granted, health isn't always black-and-white, and I didn't expect this book to be a magic cure-all for anxiety, but these disclaimers still irk me by giving the author something to "hide behind" if somebody disagrees with her.
3) I know Liana's healing journey from her past books and from being a follower for a long time. HOWEVER, she has never mentioned anxiety before this book was announced. It's not easy to put your mental health out in the open nor do I expect anyone to, but I hate how she's rarely discussed mental health or anxiety in her work yet now has a book as though she's an expert on the subject. It really opened my eyes to her lack of credentials in neuroscience and nutrition (even though she works as a health coach - but has no academic credentials or certifications).
4) SO MANY BRAND NAMES. She mentions so many brands she's worked with and how ahhhmazing they are for curing her anxiety. These brands probably paid her to mention them (since I've seen her work with them on instagram). The recommendations feel so sleazy and not genuine at all; they made the book feel like a cash grab. Nothing wrong with making money, but it upsets me to know that Liana hasn't discussed anxiety before this book and NOW she coincidentally has sooo many brands that she recommends you buy on her website because they're so good for anxiety. (I've purchased her recommendations before, by the way, and they are not cheap.)
5) The table of contents is messed up. Probably the publisher's fault, but annoying for navigating the book.
OVERALL: I love Liana's books, but I will be returning this one. It's full of recipes she's published before, brands that pay her, and is written by someone who never spoke of anxiety until her book announcement. This book felt ingenuine and as though it was just written for profit.
I was going to give 3 out of 5, because I did not really obtain any groundbreaking new info, however, the pdf that can be downloaded is well worth the extra star. A great selection of healthy meals. I won't need to search the web for decent meals.... I have them now all in one pdf. Good book overall.
