Paru Itagaki ( 板垣巴留, Itagaki Paru) is a multi-award-winning Japanese manga artist, known mainly for her work Beastars. She is the daughter of Keisuke Itagaki.
(ch 170-174) This volume starts out with Kyuu, training Legosi and selling information to Melon. Legosi starts an intense fasting, shares a kiss with Haru on the steps on a day out, and gets Louis’ blessing (and blood) to go all out on Melon for their fight. Meanwhile, Melon is panicking, the sad truth about his mother coming to light (and how he killed her), and the ever-often visions he has of her. He finds himself turning more and more into a carnivore, his leopard spots covering his body and claws softening, and panics. The day of the fight, Louis shows up announcing his new role as the C.E.O. of the Horns Conglomerate, while Louis stands tall and rugged, holding a torch covered in red deer and wolf blood. (ch 175) I have to say what we were all thinking this chapter. Louis continues to be gay as ever. He gasps as he notices the torch burning with *their* blood. He had offered him a ton of his blood, drenched himself in their mixed blood and then said, “I let you eat me once before. I’ll give you all the blood you want.” and “I’m going to offer everything to you. Because you’re the kind of wolf who’d look at this bloody wolf and worry about his shirt of all things” and “we will win this. Together!” I’m not sorry for saying that their chemistry is 10x what Haru ever has had. Anyways… We get some amazing panels. Legosi holding the torch, saying “This torch is society itself. It’s the heat of carnivore and herbivore blood mixed together.” With the final panel of the chapter, Legosi in a fighting stance, and Louis using his position of power to showcase the cameras to the back-alley market. A really good chapter. (ch 176-178) We see Yahya and Gosha, both who seem to be looking to help. The panel flawlessly melts into Legosi’s fight, which is against komodo dragons, like his grandfather, the main one whose name is Savon. He gets bit by Savon and finds his fangs regrew completely into his gums (Goodbye dentures), showing that the venom isn’t dangerous to him. He finds himself distracted and struggling because of the Komodo species that he’s supposed to fight. It’s a grueling battle with the komodo dragon’s ripping off their tales with explosions at legosi. Somehow, Legosi’s respect and kindness wins him this battle. They burn the tales in the blood of the legosi and louis, carnivore and herbivore, adding a new scent, reptile. A growing symbol. And with that, The first gang of the Turf War has been fought.

This volume was alright until chapter 174 and then it’s just amazing until the end!
The beginning was weird with Kyu saying Legoshi could devour her. Seriously, what is with rabbit girls wanted to be eaten so badly?? Lol Speaking of Rabbits, Legoshi and Haru finally kissed. Which I know is a big deal but I’m just not invested in their romance si I didn’t really care.
BUT like I said chapter 174 onwards was incredible. I thought it was funny how they made us think that Legoshi might have killed Louis. Didn’t believe that for a second lol. I thought it was great that Legoshi and Louis donated their own blood for the turf war. Burning that blood to me shows that Legoshi is fighting for the future of both the carnivores and herbivores. I noticed Louis doing that same pose that Legoshi did way back during his fight with Riz! That was epic.
Melon looks straight up badass now, and the way he started the turf war was brutal lol. I also loved the fight between Legoshi and Savon. I’ve been wanting to see more of the other gangs, so having Legoshi fight them is a cool way to do it. Even though we’re probably gonna go through these fights quickly. But Savon is really cool, I like that he isn’t just some evil gangbanger, it made him much more interesting.
I’m hyped for the next volume, the second last one!! I’m assuming it’s gonna be full of action as Legoshi fights all the gangs to get to Melon. I wonder if the final conflict will happen next volume? And maybe the final volume is kinda like an epilogue? Will Legoshi fight the lions of the Shishigumi? Also how will Yahya and Gosha fare in the turf war? Will anyone die? Im so excited!

I fully acknowledge that the plot has been completely lost at this point and shit is just being thrown at the wall but I also really like the characters and will finish this series until the very end. I can only imagine this is what watching Riverdale feels like too

This manga is so underrated. Characters development and depth is very good. World building is incredible. Deep and great themes!!! The only people who make fun of it are the ones who have never read it.
The twentieth volume of Paru Itagaki's Beastars manga opens, like its precursors, with a synopsis of recent events and visuals of the main characters. The opening action features gray wolf Legoshi defining the term "tableclothing" as when the snouts of beasts wrinkle and they lose control of their emotions, as he is during his training with the rabbit Kyu. Legoshi had felt the same way when battling the bear Riz, now in an attempt to stop Kyu from rebreaking a giraffe's neck in a cast, which she feels is essential to his training.
During his pursuit, Legoshi gets Kyu's head into his jaws, having removed his dentures before doing so, with the rabbit feeling close to death, remembering when her parents had sold her to the black market. Fasting is also a final component in the wolf's training. Furthermore, he wishes Kyu to command him to "stay" as a human in real life would a domestic dog, and she agrees. Meanwhile, Legoshi's apartment neighbor, Sagwan the spotted seal, tries checking on his friend, he and the sheep Seven, another resident, worrying about him.
Seven deals with a carnivorous client, with his gesture of a handshake frowned upon by others, alongside his openly mentioning the black market. Legoshi and the half-leopard, half-gazelle Melon plan to duel on Happy Meat Day, which is also the Rexmas holiday, where beasts honor a tyrannosaurus rex that received wings after the extinction of the dinosaurs and rejuvenating the world. Haru, the Netherland dwarf rabbit, walks the city streets alone, which is seen as dangerous since the carnivores are showing delinquent behavior, and she can only converse with her love interest Legoshi through his apartment door.
Legoshi continues to train in his apartment, scratching the floor with his claws and understanding that many beasts in winter can survive for extended periods w/o food or drink, with Haru being his source of sustenance. After he leaves, police investigate his apartment, now bloodstained with red deer blood, with Louis, the cervine fitting the bill, believed murdered. On the eve of his forthcoming duel, Melon has nightmares about his mother and notices that his leopard spots have greatly multiplied, attempting to gouge them as the black market turf wars officially commence.
Contrary to what the police and media believe, Louis is alive and begins to speak at his first press conference as head of the Horns Conglomerate with the cover story that he gave blood for charity and wishes to talk about the black market, which has received a giant blockading gate due to the danger posed by the turf wars. Legoshi enters the black market battles proper and begins by fighting the Doku-gumi, consisting of Komodo dragons, which last until the end of the volume. A visualization of a typical Rexmas celebration comes after the main chapters.
Overall, this is another enjoyable volume of the Beastars manga, with its characters continuing to be endearing and satisfactorily concluding Legoshi's training under Kyu, which diverges from what he had received under the giant panda Gohin. However, some elements abound that only Japanese readers would understand, like herbivores seeing the River Sanzu when close to death, and Itagaki, as before, overlooks the gray area between carnivorous and herbivorous diets called omnivorism. Regardless, the manga's action intensifies with this installment, and I recommend it to those who have enjoyed its precursors.
Just as I was talking about how generic and boring Kyuu is, we get something new that changes it up. I still dislike her but there's some complexity here that was not present before.
And Beastars nears its conclusion! Legoshi takes on the gangs of the Black Market. The city is being torn apart as the carnivores get riled up and angry. Melon, the hybrid, is becoming less herbivore-passing and more and more of an outright carnivore as the war begins to take on the whole city. But we have Legoshi, and Louis, a true partnership between carnivores and herbivores, aiming to take down Melon with their own strengths. Louis is becoming the leader he always pretended he would be, and Legoshi is able to embrace his carnivore traits with his own philosophy. It's also cool to see Yahya and Gosha, how they failed at being co-Beastars but now that legacy falls to Louis and Legoshi. Everything is coming to a climax here as Legoshi takes on some of the most powerful and dangerous carnivore species that reflect on his entire journey throughout the series.
i'm gonna write this review for ALL of the volumes combined. so yeah. spoiler alert.
my favorite character is louis. my least favorite is the bunny. what's her name again? ugh. i forgot.
i mean, srsly, what's not to like about louis??? he sacrificed his own leg for legoshi!! that's like a whole new level of selflessness.
my favorite arc was the battle with the white bear (polar bear?). after that it kinda went to shit.
I'M SO MAD THAT LOUIS AND THAT GREY WOLF DIDN'T END UP TOGETHER. THEY WERE SO CUTE UGGHHHHHHHHH
oh and i was SO sad when louis' dad died. i knew he barely appeared in the manga but he was just so kind. he gave louis everything he needed and always supported him no matter what.
not much else to say, i guess... i just really liked the series. i was about to watch the second season after reading the manga, but then i realized, why bother? i know all the plot already.

The final battle begins with Legoshi working to stop Melon from taking over the Black Market. Unfortunately, its quickly revealed Legoshi is putting his trust in someone he shouldn't. At the same time, Haru is getting annoyed over because she just wants to have a regular Rexmas (the Manga's lore equivilant of Christmas) date with Legoshi. It feels a bit childish, until you realize this is more evidence to how Legoshi isn't showing what's happening in his life to her and how he tries to protect her from the horror he must face in an effort to try and make the world a better place for her. It's one of those moments, where you really have to read the volume through to truly appreciate the finite details.
