Her job title should be “walking disaster magnet”. With accolades. And it has nothing to do with her wearing glasses. But hey, what do you expect from a former geeky precinct secretary doing serious detective work? Like…dead serious.
Berried is a fast-paced, stress-free cozy mystery with a touch of romance and a lot of humor. A light read with no gore or foul language, this book is perfect to unwind at the end of the day.
Charlie Cooper, former secretary for the Boston PD, chocolate enthusiast and private investigator extraordinaire takes on her most puzzling case yet. Having to work for the grumpiest man in town, Edgar McMillan, the only clues she gets to solve her next case are a lurking shadow, a gunshot blast, possibly a Tony winner, some Ponies and Betty’s crew. Needless to say, nobody knows who Betty is. Or her crew.
Oh, and there’s the dead body too. Charlie hates when that happens. Found in no other place than the client’s backyard just seconds after he was shot. But what was he doing there in the first place?
Adding to the stress is Charlie’s mother, who’s current project is redecorating the house, meaning there are more cans of paint in the kitchen than a batch of fresh baked cookies. To top it off, Charlie’s love life takes a hit when her boyfriend, Detective Alex Spencer, is assigned the same case as she is.
Together with Marge and Celeste, her best friends and business partners, Charlie sets out to find the killer and reinstall peace in her life.
Fans of Janet Evanovich, Jana DeLeon, Liliana Hart, Gina LaManna, Gretchen Archer, Gemma Halliday and JB Lynn will get hooked on this quirky cast of characters and their mishaps.
Berried includes a bonus Christmas short story: Jingled.
Deany Ray has always wanted to be a writer so she decided to take the plunge and dive into it. She loves writing cozy mysteries, as this is what she likes to read the most. Her favorite activities are traveling, going to the movie theatre, meeting up with friends and having cooking sessions with her awesome mom.
Deny Ray brings Charlie and her best friends, Celeste and Marge, back. They own CMC Services and disagree about which is represented by the first C in the name. When the chief of the Springston police department puts CMC on a job he doesn't want to handle things start to get weird again. Grumpy Old McMillen reported a murder in his back yard but there was no body, no evidence, and no one else heard the shot he swears happened. If he didn't have influence in Springston the police would just let the matter drop. A week later a real murder happens there. Can Charlie and the gang get past the bizarre gibberish McMillen heard, the shotgun shells loaded with vegetable and flower seeds, the near riot at Friday night bingo, A devastated secretary, and a dead corrupt lawyer before they or the client are killed? The story was good but I got really annoyed being repeatedly told that Celeste smokes, Charlie is an unlucky klutz, and Marge is extremely impulsive. Also, the first chapter is fun but seemingly unrelated to anything else in the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the antics and work that that Charlie, Marge, and Celeste went though. They really put their all into their work to satisfy their client. This book series is easy to read so that I could sit down and enjoy it to my heart’s content.
There is so much action going on with these three ladies and the unknown perpetrators. They work together as a team to find out who is causing the trouble in the neighborhood.
I have enjoyed reading the books in this series and hope there are many more to come. They have exciting plots and great characters that I can’t stop reading.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am voluntarily leaving this review.
CMC investigations are on another case. And Celeste is about to have Bert's (her ex-husband & chief of police) hide, as it’s only a case because of an influential person that no one seems to like is causing a ruckus about a crime that didn’t happen in his back yard.
As Charlie, Marge, and Celeste investigate, there winds up being a real murder in old man McMillan’s yard. The police chief pulls the crew off the case as it’s now an official police matter. But Mr. Mcmillan hires them to find out what happened.
This is another great story in the Charlie Cooper series with defined characters, plenty of humor, a solid plotline.
This is a great cozy mystery series! How in the world do three girls find themselves in so much trouble and yet come out of it smelling like a bunch of roses? The answer to that question is what makes this story so much fun to read. The recurring characters in this cozy mystery series are a hoot! Waiting for the next book in the series is like waiting for next weeks episode of my favorite sitcom show. Deany Ray has delivered another well-written, fun, easy read. It is a highly entertaining, slightly romantic, out of the ordinary, and comedic whodunit. What a great storyteller!
Oh my gosh! Each book in this series is better than the last. This one has Mr. Grumpy Pants and Bingo with a side of crazy. Of course there's a mystery and CMC figures things out that the police miss. Of course Charlie and Alex are becoming an item and nearly keeping it a secret from her family. Of course YOU should read this. (Actually you should read them all in order to appreciate them fully!) I love these books and am sad that there is only one more already published! 🤞🤞 that more are on the way!
Deany Ray has written another fabulous mystery with Charlie and her friends getting into the middle of another police investigation as usual the array of characters are vibrant, colorful and quirky drawing you with their drama while the mystery entices you further and the plot carries you throughout keeping you turning page after page until you reach the unexpected and climatic conclusion. Acquire " Berried " today so that you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. Kat
These cozy mysteries have you laughing and trying to figure out who is the murderer. The quirky trio of Charlie, Marge and Celeste always make life interesting. Clumsy Charlie will keep you wondering how she's going to possibly get hurt. These wanna be detectives acting as private investigators will have you in stitches. Love this series!
It's so nice to find a series that doesn't have foul language and is really fun to read. I've read most other cozy mystery series and I'm glad to have found this one. You never know what Charlie and her team are going to get into.
I love this series! In these crazy times these three best friends takes a reader away from what is happening in the real world and brings the reader mystery, romance laughs and just a-lot of fun!
