The Moore Family #1

Finding Bliss

Rate this book
She’s running for her freedom. He might be everything she’s running from. Can a chance encounter help them both find Bliss?

After finding herself in too deep with a dangerous man, Juliet Lane walks away from everything: her job, her clothes, even her best friend. As she whispers her final goodbye to New York City, she makes a promise…no more controlling men. Period. The end. With that in mind, she leaves the past in her rearview and makes a break for the most heart-warming small town she’s ever heard of. Bliss, South Carolina.

Former Naval Aviator Ian Moore knows who he is. A natural leader if ever there was one, his first instinct is to step in and help—which usually means taking control. Something he enjoys doing, especially in the bedroom…though his bedroom has been woefully empty of late. Every woman he meets falls into one of three categories: gold-digger, airhead, or uptight socialite blinded by ego. Ian couldn’t be less interested. He needs a woman who’s strong enough to know what she wants and soft enough to trust his bossy gene.

When fate brings Ian and Juliet together, their chemistry is undeniable. He’s everything Juliet’s ever wanted and everything she’s running from, all wrapped up in one hard-not-to-ogle package. Something about her screams hot mess of trouble, but Ian knows she needs his help. Unable to get her out of his head, will a second chance encounter be too much for either of them to resist?

Finding Bliss is a feel-good contemporary romance with a dash of humor, a sprinkle of heat, and an ocean-loving little dog who ruins intimate moments while bringing everything together.

If you love hilarious brothers with a bossy gene, scroll up and one-click to start your adventure in Bliss today.

I'm hoping that she just messed up and put a draft version of this book out, which would be bad enough, because otherwise theres no reason for the editing issues. There are several times you turn the page and have to flip back to check if you've missed something... Why is that? Well, it seems to be because there is at least a sentence missing. Yep, so as with the last sentence, you would read 'Well, it seems' - turn the page - 'missing.' But then, later in the book, there's actually a repeated page, as in a 'this page1', followed by a 'that page2', and then a repeat of a 'this page1'. It's all very weird.

There was also the convenient bad guy. The premise is pretty good, not one I've read before, and basically boiled down to 'the naive girl getting scammed into a FSoG contract', only to find out it's not all like in the books. This guy was a sadist who appears to have lied about it just like Christian, but he didn't stop. And for some reason we never really get into, she stays with him and puts up with this shit for months, instead of pointing out he's ignored her limits, safe words, and the contract and she doesn't want to keep doing it. So anyway, months later, she packs up, sneaks off, goes off grid to a random pick of a town name Bliss... Enter the H. Now, it's all Blissfully easy and insta-connect, leading to the perfect life with the rich, dominant, protective H who treats her like she's special (as no one ever has before). And that's all fine for what it is, but when he finds out more about what the sadist did to her (and no, there's never really a hell of a lot about any of that, just enough to point out how bad it was and try and pull some heart strings), the H points out that non-disclosure agreement or not, she has the power over the famous sadist ex, because whether they sue her for it or not, she could still spill his secrets. The H convinces her to let his lawyers request her final paycheck from the sadist ex (yes, he was her boss too).

So the point of all this is that she was terrified of this powerful, famous, controlling, sadist ex tracking her down, so goes completely off grid and only keeping in 'sneaky' (they had a teenage code etc) contact with her BFF and giving no details for him to follow to her if he gets the chance. But then it's all a fizz, cause not only has the ex never tried to track her down, but the H got his lawyers to play hard ball about her abuse apparently (with out them ever talking to her), so she gets a huge check in the mail with a note saying don't contact me.

And the family love her, and he proposes, and then they decide to continue to work together so they never have to be apart again.

Plus, there's a dog in there, that was convenient for a 'meet-cute' scene, and a couple of interruption moments, but in essence, the dog was just a waste of words cause the author tried to work her in, but most of it missed the mark for me. Not as bad as one book I read where the h was all 'I love my cats, I live with my cats... My life is in danger and the new H in my life wants me on lock down to protect me'. And the FOUR F'ING DAYS LATER, the chick is 'so bored' that she begs her guards to take her home so she can feed her cats... Four days, and them starving had just been brought up cause she was bored. Yep, that pissed me off. Anyway, this books dog isn't as badly written in as that situation, but it still wasn't a smooth element.

This book very much felt like an early draft to me. She's put the bits in, but now needs to thread them all together.

Juliet Lane learned to her detriment that sometimes fantasies should stay just that; locked away with dreams of ‘what if?’

After packing up what she could; Juliet along with her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Lulu, flee New York and head out onto the open road. Determined to fly under the radar and make a new start; what better place to pitch up than Bliss, South Carolina. I mean come on, the name says it all!!

Deciding to swear off men for the foreseeable future, her resolve is sorely tested when she meets tall, dark and devilishly handsome Ian Moore after he rescues her dog at a rest stop.

Ian Moore is still wrestling with some inner demons from the accident that cut short his career as a naval aviator. He’s a man that likes control; in all things!! He’s looking for a woman to be his partner, but at the same time let him protect and care for her *coughs* in and out of the bed. Ian is instantly intrigued by Juliet, but his internal red flags are going off at the same time over what she’s not telling him. However, Ian is a protector to his core…..

Things aren’t as easy in Bliss as Juliet hoped and her path once again crosses with Ian who despite his reservations offers her a place to stay in exchange for help fixing up a house he’s currently remodelling.

I loved how the heat gets ramped up in more ways than one as Ian and Juliet work side by side on the project. Little by little their stories are revealed and trust is gained. And when they finally come together? Imagine fireworks, the earth moving, the whole enchilada!! Ian shows Juliet that having a bit of a kink is a good thing with a partner you can trust implicitly.

Ian and Juliet find something in each other that they always longed for, but never thought possible:

Ian ~ “Because you are my sun and the world goes dark when I’m not with you.”

Juliet ~ “Things were easy. Right. Like this was the life she’d been destined to live.”

Also, ladies, I have two words for you regarding a scene at the end; Dress Whites – #nuffsaid

This was the first work I’ve read by this author and I loved the flow and ebb of the story. The book is full of interesting characters including the town of Bliss itself, and I can’t wait to read more about the Moore family as the series progresses. Prepare to be blown away!

To be honest books with rough sex and or BDSM scenes usually just aren't my thing. So when early in this story I learned our female lead Juliet Lane liked rough sex and BDSM and our male lead Ian Moore liked the same I wasn't expecting to like this story as much as I did even if it was written by Abby Brooks who is becoming one of my favorite authors. There's only a little BD no SM and IMO no rough sex. But there is a lot of sex for a Brook's book.
Juliet Lane inspired by 50 Shades and curious to explore her own sexuality thought she'd found her own Christian Grey in her tech billionaire boss Peter Vox. They even replayed the whole scene from the EL James book where they sit in a conference room with contracts where she defines her hard and soft stops and safe words and signs an NDA. The problem is Vox is no Christian Grey. Once he has her at his mercy he has no respect for her dislikes and blows right through her safe words. He's cruel man who gets off on inflicting pain. Fearing that Vox will escalate his already painful treatment to something that could cause her serious injury Juliet or Julz grabs her dog Lulu, what few personal belongings she still has and what little cash she has and takes off for parts unknown afraid Vox will pursue her and punish her. She sees a little South Carolina oceanside town named Bliss on a map and thinks that sounds like a good place to start her life over again. At a rest stop near Bliss Lulu gets away when Julz stops to assist an elderly woman who stumbles in front of her. Enter Ian Moore who catches Lulu while Julz is helping the woman.
Ian is of course incredibly handsome and also kind and wealthy. He has a protective streak a mile wide. Julz is immediately attracted to the man but she's sworn off handsome, wealthy, dominant men and it obvious Moore checks all of those boxes. He helps give her directions to Bliss and tells her where she can find a hotel to stay. She heads off to Bliss and Ian heads off to his brother's engagement party at his parent's home. But that entire evening while all the single women at the party are trying to catch his attention he can't get Julz off his mind.
The one hotel in Bliss doesn't allow pets so Julz ends up spending her first night in Bliss sleeping in her car on the beach. The next morning she runs into Ian at the local coffee shop appropriately titled New Beginnings. When Ian discovers she spent the night sleeping in her car and has no place to stay he offers her a beach house he's just purchased and needs to renovate. Instead of rent she agrees to work with him renovating the home. As these two spend all day working together you can guess where this one is going in a hurry.
There's lots of romance and sex in this one. The angst is low grade. Julz at first worries that Ian will become another Peter. She worries Peter will find her. She worries if Ian discovers that she agreed to be Peter's submissive sex slave he'll be disgusted with her and want nothing to do with her. None of which occurs. Turns out both Julz and Ian are pretty much on the same page when it comes to their sexual likes. She likes being tied up but isn't into pain beyond some mild spanking. Ian is into bondage and spanking but not inflicting pain. Basically for you female readers Ian Moore is the perfect man. That is if you are into his kind of kink anyway. Outside the bedroom he's pretty much every woman's dream man. He certainly is Julz's.
This being the first book in the series we meet the rest of the Moore family, parents Diane and Frank, brothers James and Harrison and sister Lilah. We meet Ellie the curvy, friendly owner and operator of New Beginnings who befriends Julz and will be the female lead in the second book Faking Bliss. I thought this was a great start to this series.

She needs a new start. He wants to help her. Both don't trust easily.

Plot: great (lovely, very lovely town, great background stories)

Writing style: very good (some mistakes, though)

Characters: awesome

I really like the story because it's fun, and the background story is really good. Terrifying but good.

Ian is a kind man but he knows what he wants and that he won't change - not even for the right woman. His family is really sweet, I like his mom and his dad and his siblings. I love the way he is with Juliet, determined but taking his time so that she can trust again and feel powerful. Adorable.

And then there's Juliet, the girl that ran away. She is headstrong and has been through hell. What her ex put her through is disgusting and so not what BDSM should be about. I absolutely love that she doesn't let that put her down. She's still carefree and happy. I loved the scenes when she was dancing around, singing out loud and stuff because it just showed me what an amazing person she is, still seeing all the good around her, enjoying the tiny pleasures of life.

My negative remarks:
I don't like that we've got James who had a perfectly fine relationship but of course, since this is a series called the Moore brothers, they have to break up. Hach... I was so happy because you don't have that often, a relationship that started as early as theirs did. Ah yeah, really disliked that this was just a great relationship to the outside.
I just can't believe that there are so few books out there in which we've got a relationship that lasts longer so yeah I'm a bit blown away that it didn't work out here.

Anyways, sweet romance.

This is short, cute, fast-paced, steamy sexy (includes B and D, but not S and M) and romantic.

Julz is escaping a past, sees Bliss on a map and thinks its perfect. She meets Ian at a rest stop and coincidentally, he's from Bliss. Ian is an alpha, dominant but not sadistic, independently wealthy, FORMER lieutenant in the Navy. The good news is that his protective streak is pretty damn romantic and kinda swoony.

Why not more stars?
First, I would not have called this a military romance. While he was in the Navy, he's now in his small beach town flipping houses. The reason he's no longer in the navy is explained, but not really explored to give him more depth. Second, the author seemed to be leading up to some sort of big confrontation between Julz and the sadist, but it's completely anticlimactic. Based on the title, I kinda expected something more suspenseful given how frequently Juliet is fearful or worried. However, I realize now it refers to the whirlwind romance. Third, there are some pretty major errors in the writing.

Fun to read, but not perfect for me.

From the minute I started this book I was hooked! I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one sitting! I love small town romance and love at first sight, and this book had it all!

Ian and Juliet met when her dog Lulu ran away at a rest stop, she stopped to help an elderly lady and Ian went to catch the runaway dog! And, it just so happened when she asked him if she was close to the town she was heading he said yes, and he also lived there.

After a restless night, she bumped into Ian again at the local coffee shop and he was upset to learn where she spent the night, so he offered her accommodation in exchange for helping do the house renovations, and she jumped at the chance.

Slowly, through playing a question game, Juliet tells him what she is running from, and he helps her in more ways than one. She has never felt so at home, safe and loved in all her life.

If you like small town, beach, hero books then you will love this book.

I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for my opinion.
To say that this was my ideal book would be an understatement.
I knew from the first page that Juliet was going to be one of my all time favourite heroines ever. She was a perfect blend of sweet, sexy, funny, innocent and worldly. Written in such a way that kept my smiling from her first waddle walk to the rest room, until the very last page. She was portrayed with such great humour and care, that I genuinely miss her and the lovely Lulu now that I am finished.
Add to the mix the super sexy and drool worthy Ian and I'm all in!! The chemistry between him and Julz was electric, but was also sweet and affectionate.
I loved that them together. They made me laugh and blush in equal measure.
This is book 1 and I seriously can not wait for the next. Abby Brooks is definitely a writer I will be following.

Overall, I think the book was fine it just had a few things I disliked. I don't mind that their relationship progressed quickly but I felt she started it too soon after Michael. Then of course the old "don't worry about a condom I'm on the pill". They only knew each other for 3 days she could have a a crazy person in disguise. Always use condoms especially if he is rich. Hello, trap you for child support. I don't have boys but I would tell them not to believe that and to bring their own condoms. I really was waiting on Michael to reappear. She was scared on the run plus with the secret code to call Willow. I felt bad for James at the end. I hope he doesn't hurt poor Ellie on his path of self destruction.

Love, love, love Juliet and Ian!! While running away from an abusive relationship, Juliet finds herself in an unlikely predicament when a handsome man in a tux helps locate her dog....and he is in a tux no less!! What was supposed to be a brief encounter turns into so much more when she arrives in a beautiful town called Bliss and finds herself being rescued once again by Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome. But will Juliet's baggage be more than Ian is willing to deal with? Or will he rescue her once again? Filled with wonderful characters you cannot help but fall in love with and a storyline that sucks you in right away this was another awesome book from Abby Brooks. I cannot wait to read about Ian's siblings in future books.

Juliet was running for her life with just what was in her car, and romance found her, well found her through her dog Lulu. Her history is filled with feeling unloved & violence. The twists & turns of new friendship & new romance flows through the book as you read. As Julz (Juliet) learns to trust herself & learn to trust Ian it's an amazing transformation. It shows you just never know where or when you will find love. Not only did she find love, but she found a loving family to call her own.

Finding Bliss is book 1 in the Moore Family series by Abby Brooks. This is a republished and expanded version of the book, Blown Away. Read this book before and loved it but now it’s better than ever!

Juliet Lane leaves her life in New York, on the run and looking for a place to reinvent herself. She ends up in Bliss, South Carolina and meets Ian Moore, former Naval Aviator, leader and a man who takes control. He’s not what she is looking for but he is what she needs...

Chemistry, laughter, run away dog, bossy and so much more will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next...

This book was okay, but I found it a little on the boring side.

It's the same story you've read before : woman fleeing from abusive ex. Hero swoops in and offers her a home in a new town. He's perfect. His family is perfect. The town is perfect.

I kept waiting for something to happen like may the ex to show up and cause trouble. There is zero drama, no climatic ending. Just your typical happily ever after.

I know there are many that love it, but I'm afraid i love a little meat and major drama in my stories.

They are totally made for each other and there is such an ease to their relationship. I love the low drama and swoon-worthy moments. Can't wait for more on the Moore Family!

Insta-love, quick read. Juliet is running from a BDSM relationship and has sworn off men, but instantly meets Ian at a rest stop on her way to her new town that she choose the day before to live.

It was cute, but not very original.

Safe with Ian

Juliet decided to run from Peter, a wealthy CEO with a BDSM contract with her. She likes things a little rough, not cruel, so escaping to Bliss seemed like a dream, and one that comes true when she meets Ian Moore there when he rescues her dog Lulu. They work perfectly together, renovating the home he has her staying in with Lulu. Juliet fears Peter finding her, and her perfect new life will be ruined when Ian finds out about how BDSM played in her life. Is it too much for the Moore family to accept her if Ian professes his love for her? A few too many editing errors kept this book from a 5 star rating, but it still has me recommending this book for its romantic storyline.

This is the first book by Abby I have read. That said I did love her writing style. The only thing that I would say is that I wished it was longer. I felt like everything was going great and then, all of a sudden BOOM the end. I also would have loved an epilogue and to get to know the brothers some more. But i do understand that they have their own books. I just would have liked to get a more feeling of the family dynamics. That said it was still a great read!!!

Nice easy read about a lady on the run and one of the sexy as h$$l Moore Brothers. Great characters and with an author whose style I enjoy. While I enjoy the chemistry between these two I would have enjoyed it more if they had held out longer before jumping into bed even insta-love needs some time. I do enjoy this author so even though I enjoy a little more in my reads I am enjoying the boxset and will continue on to the next brother in the set in Carried Away.

I had read other books by Abby and they made me want to read more of her work; so I was very happy to receive this ARC. I really enjoyed how Ian & Juliet's characters evolved and their storyline had just the right amount of sweetness mixed with hot & sexy kink. This was a quick and easy read and I can't wait to read the next one in the series! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and originally posted this on another website on August 18, 2016.

Juliet is on the run for her evil ex, who was a sadist who didn't follow the rules. He also has lots of money and power So she choose a place far away at the coast to go to, Bliss.
Almost there she meets Ian and he is from Bliss. He offers her a place to stay when she helps him renovating the house.

During that progress they grow closer and closer together, but will she be able to trust him?
Lovely read.

Ian and Juliett

Sweet and sexy romance told in dual POV. No real angst. I was a little let down due to the build up of how bad Peter supposedly was. I loved Ian, liked Juliet and really hope James gets a great story. This is a sweet romance where two people stay wholly wrapped up on each other the entire book. He heels her brokeness and she fulfills his desires. Its a good book.

Great book

I enjoyed re-reading Ian and Juliet's story. I have read the other books in this series but forgot how their story went. It was great re-reading how they worked together to blend their lives. Loved how they took care of Peter, he was one piece of the puzzle I had forgotten about. Very good stories, thank you. Written by Cindy :)

New series new stories!

Chance meeting at a rest area! One is running from something and has big fears! The other is running to something and is comfortable in his own place in life! With them both ending up on going to the same small town what are they chances they might just be running to each other without knowing it?

Not a bad read, but I had trouble connecting with either of the main characters. I just wasn't feeling it, but I don't really know what the issue was. :-( I did appreciate the lack of a third act breakup and the way Juliet's NYC issue was resolved. Most authors would have gone for the drama, I was happy Ms. Brooks didn't.

This is my, I'm sick, so I read romance novels, type of book. Easy reading, great characters. The stories aren't long enough for me, I want to know more. All in all. Abby Brooks is a go to for some slightly steamy romance.
