My son has been asking a lot of questions about how the US government works, so I checked out this book from the library for us to read together. It does a good job overall of succinctly describing the development of the US government and what all of the parts do, along with some information on state and local government structures.
After the past election I felt I needed a refresher on our political system as it had been years since I learned about it. This was a great tool to get a general overview that is simple to understand. It gives a brief history and moves methodically through explaining all aspects of our system from the two parties, to voting, to elections, to civil servants. While this is a book written for adults, it is laid simply enough that kids could use it as a first introduction to our political system. I highly recommend this book!
This is a book that should have broad appeal to many audiences: to the student, wanting to learn about American government; to the citizen, wanting an overview of how government works; to the aspirant to U.S. citizenship, needing to know the various parts and functions of government in this country. Its colorful and easy-to-follow format render it invaluable. It is informative and contains many interesting sidelights to liven its contents. (For example, this reader did not know that every new President is required to plan his/her own funeral during the first week of office!) History, the development of political parties, checks and balances, state and local government: all -- and much, much more -- is to be found within these 100+ pages of diagrams and charts. This book can be recommended to EVERYONE...and should be read BY everyone!
With a autumn haunted by COVID-19 looming before us, I decided to give a few books that could be good home school resources the old college try.
This one is excellent! Have a squirrelly student who can’t sit down long enough to learn about the three branches of government? What about your fifth grader who keeps singing Hamilton but doesn’t know how to get involved? What about a parent trying to explain lobbying ahead of this coming election but unsure of the process? This book will make those conversations simple and streamlined.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Seriously! This book is a great Barometer to solidify and summarize the book I read - “The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States”.
This book had great graphics to symbolically associate the associated demographic of representations of the government. I know for certain this book will be handy in the future.
I’m 74 Years old and because I read this book I now have a better understand Our Government. This book was simple to read and made basic Government much easier to understand. The design work added to mading things yet easier to comprehend the contents. I would highly recommend this book to every school age child.
Sure, in America 🇺🇸, they teach you this information in public school. However, if you’re like me and forgot most of it because you probably weren’t paying too much attention anyway, then this book is perfect for you. Now I feel I can discuss the structure of the American 🇺🇸 government with the best!
Basic information on American government from the federal level down to the local level (The bulk of the information is federal). I love the infographic format and it was used well here. Would work in a school or classroom library as a resource for students.
Great for teaching an introduction to government or Civics class. Great information in an engaging format, I would consider this book for my personal library since I have kids.
… I would kind of have liked it to be more historically accurate with more side boxes with ‘exception commentaries’ where a give absolute principle is split open with cases that looked into its deeper core values ( ? )
This is a good conversation-starter or quick refresher on all the basics of U.S. government. Of course there's plenty of info they couldn't fit into the graphics, but still visually appealing, informative, recommended. My infographic-loving kid gives it an A.
