If you ever meet an individual from the LGBTQ+ community asking for work, how would you react? Many will look away. This is the story of someone fighting against society’s many stereotypes. Most are confused with language itself, unsure whether to say ‘him’ or ‘her’! Will this journey lead the protagonist, Sane, somewhere or he will break halfway?
Identity by Arundhati Sahoo is a contemporary fiction that brings out two ignored sections of society to the fore. It essentially comprises their life, their thoughts, the interplay of their ambition, and the treatment meted out to them, along with their journey to find themselves.
It is a story of Sane, a eunuch, and Sunny, a prostitute. The book follows how the two cross their paths, become integral to each other's journey of fighting against the conventional world, and find themselves. I am both amused and amazed by their thoughts that occur in spurts throughout the book. They speak so much about a society that continues to oppress the trans community as well as the prostitutes.
Society looks down upon these two sections. They're considered unholy and a disgrace to the civilizations. They have got no right to lead a respectable life, a life of dignity. The book attempts to put forth this point and discuss it thoroughly through Sane and Sunny. Amid the deliberation spanning the identities of these two human beings, we come across their beautiful relationship with each other. Their pure love is surely above the norms that drive them to discover their individual purpose and work for it.
I would take this opportunity to commend the author for weaving a lovely tale with an amazing wordplay. However, I found the transitions a bit too fast for me to hold on to them. The storyline got hasty at some points and turned out to be a little vague to me. Nevertheless, it is a good and mature read. Read it with patience.
This is a story of a eunuch, a prostitute and a domestically violated woman.
This book has given a completely different perspective of how people look at the third gender or women who fall into the trap of prostitution or forcefully married. The emotions that have been poured out in the pages are phenomenal. I loved how the feelings of the characters were described comprehensively. At times it was thought-provoking as well as I felt a meltdown empathising with their agony.
Identity was a very Pragmatic, touching, heart provoking read for me. The topic is quite delicate and important too. We live in a society that has a mask. With a compassionate realism and narrative sweep, this magnificent book captures all the cruelty, corruption and sentiments faced by two different souls.
A Eunuch Sane and a prostitute. there journey there experience and there pain. The plot begins with both having a heart to heart discussion about this dark world. The tears that no one wipes, the wounds that never heals. Heart rendering plot of a topic that bounds the readers to think and feel the cries that comes out of souls.
As it throws light on this, it makes us realise the importance and equality of unique peoples. A story that has a message that is weaved through these characters. Definitely our society never bothers to accept this with open arms. The typical mindset can be changed with little efforts. The author has penned a great topic. Hope this piece of work help in bringing a difference.
Identity by Arundhati Sahoo Some author write so beautifully that that transport to new world, as they weave the a tale you feel everything along with the characters and with every flick of page it just gets better and better. Arundhati Sahoo is one such writer and Identity is one such exquisite book.
It's an inspiring story of trans person Sane how against all odds he survives in a Cruel world and helps other people who suffered because of their identity their social standing. This is book is extraordinary, I connected with Sane and loved him so much, I have never read a book like this the way he helped Sunny and others is awe inspiring. The chachar arc is amazing the way Sane and Sunnye grows through out the book, so gently yet confidently was heartwarming.
This a book to read to know the sufferings and struggles that are undergone by many human beings who are different and wish to have their own identity and societal acceptance. The majority always try to suppress the rights that are available to them.
This is the story of Sane and Sunny and how they created their own identity and acceptance in society. Sane is a eunuch and Sunny is a prostitute. I loved the way they think and the thoughts that made them follow and reach what they want. The crowd will not accept unless we are successful and follow us later.
I loved the sentence " I look forward to the strong words with feelings day when mankind identifies everyone as humans". There are a lot of lines like this that will touch us. Kudos to the author for such a short read with a good story line that makes us understand and undergo the feelings and emotions along with the characters.
Book Name: Identity "A mere play of gender, status & Aesthetics". Author: @arundhati1402 Genre: Narrative Language: complex Ratings: 4.5⚡ . About the book. This story begins with a eunuch sane and a sunny (A prostitute). This story has a huge impact on society and their discriminational anguish. Well, a discussion between both Carry on . where Sunny says "We belong to that part of the society where lies the dilapidated debris of human civilization ". sane quest “But you people are treated in such a manner by all of society!”. Sunny replied I dare say that the people here are not social enough for their community to be called a society. Here not only sunny but sane is also disrespected due to his gender prejudice. the story weaves how both these characters meet their excursion against the customary world and their entertaining, excruciating also, passionate considerations. The creator brings out well how our general public peers downward on them as blasphemous and despicable.
The author presents to us a lovely kinship between the characters who courageous it out over all challenges they face and find their way.
Here they mention What is needed for a respected life? Is it us who are vulnerable, or is it society that’s engulfed invulnerability? Because they struggled now and then with their life just because people around them were insensitive/cheap. Only a few feel unholy for them.
We, humans, discriminate in the name of all these words and create hypocrisy about whether someone is pure or not just to divide in the name of supremacy and inferiority. . Personal insight: The story has a lot to say especially ab an individual's identity. It's worth reading. because people nowadays busy with their social media life doesn't give importance to such hegemony. Each one must be aware of this. Well, it was a short read of 90 pages. Beautifully scripted. The author's dedication to this is understood. Moreover was overwhelming & severe (Plots were;) at some point there were beautiful notes written on life and societal thinking in between was heart-wrenching (motivational). Wholly enjoyed; . Highly recommended💯

BOOK REVIEW- Touched souls and made sure to change the mindset of readers, "Identity" is a really emotional novel I have read so far . Proving stereotypes on transgender wrong and placing their role in our society is the best summary for this novel.
AUTHOR- Arundhati Sahoo
SYNOPSIS- Sane , an eunuch who lost his parents and is left with no support and friends in this lonely world begins questioning his existence and why was he born in this way. Seraph, a woman managing bakery runs away from her husband who is chauvinist and stays with Sane , leading safe and happy life. Sunny, who's a prostitute leaves her profession and tries to live a normal life in so called civilised society. Sane starts questioning his existence and a reason to prove the worth of transgender in this society. He finally succeeds in "DIGNITY "business(dresses) and employees more of his kind to support and make them independent. Sunny joins him along with Seraph and they achieve their goals . To a day, when Sane leaves both of them safe in his house and goes away after achieving best entrepreneur award of the year , leaving the responsibilities to Sunny and Seraph. After years, he returns to see an orphanage, a successful small business and happy Sunny fulfilling her responsibilities. His happiness knew no bounds.
LESSONS FROM NOVEL- As Albert Einstein once said, “Not everything that can be counted counts and not everything that counts can be counted.” Man is the most rational animal, but what he lacks most is rationality; beliefs are made and logic exists to manipulate thoughts and prove the righteousness of the belief system that leads to life. The irony of human behaviour! Everybody seems to talk of preserving simplicity but are engaged in its destruction! The cocoon of self-comfort keeps one away from the entire world. “Love is like pie, natural, irrational and very important.”
RATINGS- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
RECOMMENDED- To every citizen of this country, to accept the fact!

'Identity' is a mirror shown to society, which has a hush-hush policy when it comes to transgenders and prostitutes. The book takes a serious note on how many stigmas exist between us, and how difficult it is for the socially downtrodden communities to lead a regular and respectful life. Sane is a eunuch born to loving parents who raised him with a positive approach to life. Post their death, Sane has the desire to fulfill their dream of living a content life with love and respect. His path crosses with Sunny, a prostitute who works at Paradise, a brothel for whom Sane stitched dresses and other garments. They become good friends and after a mishap, Sane invites Sunny to stay at his place, where she helps him with stitching and soon they open a store of their own.
Soliloquies of both the characters are spread across the book about their pain, resentment towards the society, and the hope of leading a good enough life. Some of them are very thought provoking.
Both the characters have been focused well and their growth is well-defined. Their bonding and admiration for each other is pious and beautifully written. Arundhati Sahoo has managed to blend fiction and her thoughts in an interesting manner and her book is a recommendation from my side to everyone who is looking for an appealing read.
Identity : A Mere Play of Gender, Status & Aesthetics by Arundhati Sahoo
🌸 This book is based on individuals of LGBTQ+ community. This is a story of a eunuch, a prostitute and a domestically violated woman. It will make you Think, Empathize and look at things from a third eye point of view.
🌸 Homosexuality and queer identities may be acceptable to more youths than ever before, but within the boundaries of family, home and school, acceptance of their sexuality and freedom to openly express their gender choices still remain a constant struggle for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) people.
🌸 This book helps in bringing new perspectives and new thoughts which helps to emphasise to those are different. The author also described how much injustice they face from birth till there last breath .I am very happy to read this book that someone has raised a voice for people of LGBTQ+ community.
🌸 The narration is good. And the book is full of twists and turns. Representation and writing style is so beautiful. The Language of the Book Is Rich. the Writing Style of the Book Is Gripping. the Cover and the Title of the Book Are an Absolutely Appropriate. Overall a good one time read .The Book Is a Good Pick for Someone Who are begginer. Highly recommended by me!
Identity is a gripping tale of the darker side of the society where power and money dominate the lives of those that the society casts out.
The book is about a prostitute called Sunny and Sane, a eunuch who come together to try their luck at building a secure life for themselves against all odds.
Love how hope and friendship dominate even during times when the characters seem to struggle with the most difficult times of their lives. The author has ensured a holistic character development and a meaningful plot that touches you to the core.
The author brings you face to face with the stark reality of the prejudice and ill-treatment faced by transgenders and queers in society.
The narration seamlessly takes you throughout the plot adding direction and soul to every incident taking place.
The book urges its readers to view every human being as an equal irrespective of their gender or sexuality. It will change your mindset and your perception of the outside world as it takes you on a shocking exploration of one’s identity.
There are rare books that detail earnestly the societal dogma, beliefs, opinions, discrimination, preconceived notions and unleash the reality of ugly truth, plight, sorrows that lay hidden in the culture primarily forged by the society. The belief system is hard to change, the set stereotypes are hard to redefine and question. However, after reading the book, one would certainly rethink the happenings that are so important and look intensely into the identity of a human.
The book portrays two stories; one of a eunuch and the other of a prostitute. As they battle through the struggles of their life, they also fight against the set truths and mentality of the people around them. The need for ‘acceptance’, ‘understanding’ and ‘respect’ which they strive for is detailed very well in the book. One that delves deep into the human psyche and makes you ponder over certain flaws of the existing system. The book is a must-read for all the people out there, especially adults, and non-fiction readers.
The book speaks about a delicate topic and written from the soul. I could feel the pain and anguish the two characters went through as they face discrimination from the society. The word equality means different for all and after reading this book, I have truly understood how much it means for some people. While we enjoy our place in the society, everyone deserves the same. This story is between an eunuch Sane and a prostitute Sunny and how their lives intertwine together. The narration is the USP of this book. It makes us contemplate and questions our basic thought process. We need to break the barriers that discriminates some while accepting others.
Overall, the story triggers us to change our mindset and accept everyone. That would be true equality. The mind is who decides, is the mind is who changes, transforms and creates a new idea where everyone is respected.
"Own your identity. Love who you are in the world. Love your deafness." - Nyle DiMarco.
Identity — this novella may not be liked by many of us, but it is one such book which highlights the other human story of this world.
The novella surrounds life of a eunuch named Sane and a prostitute named Sunny who face hell lot of hardships in their daily life. It encircles the pain they are induced in, molestation the society does to them and their appalling torments. With snowed under travails, both Sane and Sunny share a pleasing bond & hold up each other by breaking all orthodox social shackles.
Within a few pages, the author has done a splendid job by blending emotions and hardships with a touch of ray of hope. At times this novella may disturb you by its strumpet narrative which indeed is the harsh truth of the society. This novella isn't meant to be reviewed or to point out the flaws, but to be read and accept the people irrespective of the caste/creed or race they belong to.
IDENTITY Written by Arundhati Sahoo The book is based on how people have completely different perspective towards LGBTQ+ section of our society. The way in which the author has expressed his views expressing the position of the society is very good. A prostitute, an eunuch who has to endure suffering and humiliation in society. When their experiences become stories, they become a question mark for society.
Sana and Sunny maintain a good friendship. Even if society mocks them, Whether hated or not, they live by sharing their love and experiences with each other. It hurts the mind to read some parts of it. As a reminder of the fact that those who suffer like this also live in our society. It contains a lot of messages
I loved this story so much, I hate this community. Sana and Sunny are unforgettable characters, they live for themselves, the community lives for someone else. Well written and good cover design. Simple language for ease way to read. I recommend for my friends.
Identity is a story of a Eunuch and a female prostitute. The story shows how society of treat them, how they need to face challenges in in their day to day life, how they struggle to be teh citizen of this country. The society discriminates them and set different rules for them. In every step they have to face humiliation and disrespect. But together they strive to build a worthy life. We get to know their part of story in this, not want the society show it to us. If 5% people view changes by reading this, that it will make a major change in the society.
It is really an untold story. I really like the narration and plot. The character is well described and explained. The language is very lucid. The name Indentity speaks a lot. A very hard hitting story and relality if our society. A must read to everyone. Do read it.
The topic touched is very strong. The character choice is great to portray the reality of life for a transgender along with the others. The story goes good, but the thing is many a times it's of-topic. The thoughts portrayed through the main protagonist are very deep and hold great value but they just confuse a little. The title is perfect for the book. The language is beautiful, but the way it's portrayed the story was compromised and thoughts were put priority. It's great to read such thoughtful words by the author through the main protagonist but the story must not be compromised. The struggle was shown fast-forward and not with clean details. The story is unique and the thought is fabulous! Towards the end the story shapes the way it should. It was end on a better note.
A story about fighting against stereotypes imposed by a judgmental society. The book was my first LGBTQ+ read, and an interesting one. I appreciate stories that are written in the form of journeys, and I always wonder if the end will be the one the main character(s) expected. It was an interesting read, with well-written characters and a gripping storyline. The attention to detail was a welcoming surprise, and I liked how the author created a story in which characters fight for acceptance. I believe it is in the power of an author to deliver stories that are empowering, especially when it comes to such a sensitive topic as sexual identity. Here we have a story that includes a unique assortment of characters: a eunuch, a prostitute and a woman with a tragic sexual past. The book delivers a glimpse into less-discussed aspects of society, such as prostitution and forced marriage. It is filled with emotion, allowing the reader to easily understand what the characters are going through. I applaud the author for coming up with a thought-provoking story, one which calls for empathy above all else. Sunny and Sane struggle to overcome the prejudices of society, fighting against all odds for their identity. I liked that the author presented her own views interspersed throughout the story, sending a powerful message about acceptance. This was an intriguing read, one which showed how modern society still has a long way to go until accepting people for who they really are. The author did not shy away from approaching such a difficult topic, her story proving that we should not judge people based on the cover.
It is very rare for a book to have its characters live beyond the pages, and at the same time let it transcend its own genre into something else. Identity does that, and more. Five Stars read for me.
One of the best books I have read this month! Highly recommend it! I only leave positive feedback and reviews when I love the book. Feel free to ask anything regarding this book. A must read for sure. I'd recommend this book to everyone who would like to read a good Literature. The book is written in a very interesting way. A must read for sure
Give up all ideas about yourself , what you meant to be and simply be." The value of this book cannot be overstated I hold my copy very close and dear. One sincere advice, please read it slowly, one chapter at a time. It will be easy to grasp that way.
All and all this is an amazing book written by an amazing author.
“To see the world in a grain of sand, And heaven in a wildflower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hands And eternity in an hour.”
These are the lines that best describe this book. This is about hope, about hard work, about struggle but also about cruelties of society, discrimination and injustices towards a certain kind of people.
This is a story of a eunuch and a female prostitute who face a lot of discrimination and injustice by society. It is about their struggle to live life in the happiest way possible given very few choices and a whole lot of injustices. This book is an eye-opener for those of us who choose to ignore the plights of these people.
The favourite thing of mine about this book would be its language, the author has written this in such a raw form, the philosophical touch is just amazing. Little snippets of poetry in between are also to look out for. Overall, I loved this book
This story is about an eunuch Sane and a prostitute Sunny, the story tells how both these characters met, their journey against the cruel world and their amusing, painful and emotional thoughts. The author brings out well how our society looks down upon them as taboo. They have to face lot of discrimination and injustice in the society. While very few of the people accept them, many treat them unfairly.
She brings us a beautiful friendship between the characters who brave it out above all difficulties they face and find their way. They become each other's support in order to build worthy life because they should get the equal rights as other humans by the creator. The emotions in the story are so touchy The story has a great impact on society making learn a lesson to no more promote gender discrimination and support equality and empathy for all classes of this beautiful society of humans.
I just read the book 🅸🅳🅴🅽🆃🅸🆃🆈 🅰 🅼🅰🆁🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 🅾🅵 🅶🅴🅽🅳🅴🆁, 🆂🆃🅰🆃🆄🆂 & 🅰🅴🆂🆃🅷🅴🆃🅸🅲🆂 written by .•♫•♬•ARUNDHATI SAHOO•♬•♫•. And feel the feeling behind the heart of third generation. This book has given a completely different perspective of how people look at the third gender or women who fall into the trap of prostitution or forcefully married. This story has a huge impact on society and their discriminational anguish. Sane, a young eunuch who left his home and family behind. And here Sane meets Sunny, an aging prostitute who needs some serious money to secure her future. But the dirtier the water, the more remarkable the lotus seems which rises from it.
The story is so well woven in an interplay of thoughts and the narrative in a language of contemplation. Overall it's a good story related to society and to change our mindset. Good written.. Good cover page
The book Identity is published by Arundhati Sahoo. It is a story of two different subjects, A Prostitute and, An Eunuch. The book is having a deep concept of the thought process of us(society) towards some specific issue. Prostituting life and their life-tussles are never accepted by this society. Eunuch lives a slavery life with no respect in any one's eyes. Both the concepts touched my heart as it shows the hypocrite us saying something else and doing the opposite with them all. We are ruthless double faced people allowing everything but not the reality to be accepted by society. The cover is appealing red showing the sensitivity of matter. The language is catchy. I can't get over it, every single page is reminder to conquer these myths that's all. Highly recommended to everyone. You must give it a try you'll feel astonishing.

Identity is a story of a eunuch and a female prostitute who face a lot of discrimination and injustice by the society. While a handful of the people accept them, many treat them unfairly, considering them a taboo. They undergo a lot of humiliation and are constantly pushed down only to rise again stronger. But they become each other's support system and appreciate each other beyond their superficiality. Together they strive to build a worthy life dispite the stigma.
This is hard hitting story which is told in the form of self evaluation and philosophy to showcase the stressful life of these socially discriminated people who have an equal right to live a life with dignity like any other human made by the creator.
At first it was a little tough for me to get into the story. But then it picked up pace and the story deepened imparting a profound message of equality for the society. The theme is intense and so it the narration. It will make you think about your role in this whole drama called life which also includes people we intensionally side-line.
A contemporary novel that highlights two underrepresented groups in society. This is a painful tale written for self-evaluation and highlights the stressful lives of socially prejudiced people. The author highlights the fact that they too have an equal right to a dignified living. It was a bit difficult for me to perceive the plot at first. But then the story became more complex, delivering a powerful message of social equality. The narration, like the concept, is passionate. The amount of emotion that has been poured into the pages is incredible. I liked how the characters' emotions were conveyed in such detail. You'll get chills from the clear language and compelling plot. The way the characters were introduced and placed in the plot was fantastic. The plot became a little rushed at times, and I found it to be a little hazy. It is, nevertheless, a fantastic read. One has to re-read the story twice to perceive the plot.

I am so grateful to this new crop of authors who are willing to write on important topics and characters as complex, sometimes flawed, sometimes toxic human beings
This book is based on individuals of LGBTQ+ community.
The author beautifully portrayed there struggle of day to day life . Struggle from the phares of basic education to higher studies , struggle to adjust in workplace or getting hired.
The author also described how much injustice they face from birth till there last breath .
I personally liked the fact how author selected this uncommon topic and pen down the context in this book and i am quite happy that someone has raised a voice for people of LGBTQ+ community.
Overall a great book . Everyone should give it a try . Highly recommended..
“When you’re upset, you need care and we’re here to give it to you. But when you need play, you go to your friends. Likewise, when you grow up, you will have certain people to suport you emotionally. Then life will be different so will be your acquaintances. People will come to you only when they find you worth it and see that you’ll understand their feelings.”
Why? The book is throwing light upon the two most ignored and hushed sections of society which are: ‘Transgender’ and ‘Prostitutes’. The fact that the book deals with both perspectives are mind-blowing. The book has made me feel certain things that I had never felt. Synopsis: It is a story of Sane, a eunuch, and Sunny, a prostitute. What did I learn?
Transgender is just another form of identity to describe oneself.
Prostitution should not be something to look down upon.
Dignity is not just limited to our societal appearance it also needs to be connected from within.
Self-esteem is something that drives a person in life.
Book : Identity : A mere play of Gender, Status and Aesthetics Author : Arundhati Sahoo Version : Kindle
We know most of the concepts in binary : Either everything or none , either male or female , either doctor or engineer, either blue or pink and many more. Have we ever thought there are many more things assigned to all of these. The book Identity , as the title says speaks about the need of self-esteem, dignity , care , recognition and a strong identity the individuals we are. We have two protagonists here , Sane and Sunny both blessed to live differently in this judgemental world. Sane is the other gender and Sunny is a sex worker. Due to the known circumstances they come together and try to understand and introspect the lives they are leading and what they are expecting of the society. The narration and writing is heart touching. This is a thought provoking book for me and some questions that are posed in this book remain in my mind for a long time. I would be seeking the answers as a society that I live in. This book has made me realize the difference between Gender and Sex as an identity. I have a lot of take away from this book as an individual. To understand and introspect more about this do read this wonderful book on identity
