Addicted to numbers, sweets and her infamous hair bundles, single mother and television personality Haverty Jones is focusing on growing her eyebrows back, testing products for her show and giving her daughter, Hero the best Christmas ever. …not to mention she’s accepting applications for a little company to snuggle with beneath the mistletoe.
Natural hair care sensation Mordecai Dawkins is charming, divorced, and has a smile that makes the ladies’ sugar rise. He believes he’s found his “good thing” in Haverty, but will an ex from Christmas past hurl a lump of coal in their holiday romance?
Add a first date at a fake funeral, a place called Christmas Everyday and one Grinch of a secret…will Haverty and Mordecai find themselves coming to blows or will they get caught catching feelings just in time for Christmas?
I was selected to read Catching Feelings for Christmas by Candice “Ordered Steps” Johnson for my bookclub. I would like to preface this review by stating that I did not know this was a Christian fiction book before reading. The author’s name should have been an indicator but I was well into chapter 3 before I realized all the religious references fell into the genre of Christian fiction.
Catching Feelings for Christmas started off slow but eventually picked up. I loved how Johnson was able to develop successful, beautiful and relatable characters that were flawed in their own right. The light-hearted humor added to “Hallmark” feeling that the book portrayed. I give Johnson kudos for putting book discussion questions at the end of book. That is very helpful in facilitating discussion during bookclub meetings.
The romantic storyline was predictable, a little unrealistic, and the excessive banter between characters was a bit much, for me. The ending also felt rushed. However, I think it is a good holiday story if you are in the Christmas spirit and like Christian romance, then Catching Feelings for Christmas is the book for you.
A very delightfully funny and entertaining shortie. Haverty Jones and her family are a funny set of crazies-just a regular normal African American family. Haverty is a single mom, raise her former friend’s baby girl. Her life is regularly crazy until she meets Mordecai. Their first meeting went crazy off the rails from a professional perspective. But it was for Mordecai, this woman has to be the woman for me. From there as their situations come together, a lot of zaniness and a whole bunch of life drama. First time reading this author, and can’t wait to read other works by her!!!!
Funny banter, quirky characters, and great dialogue! This is my first read by the author but won’t be my last. I had fun with these characters and I love their names: Mordecai, Haverty, Mallory, Hero. There’s a lot going on in a quick amount of time, but such is life. Secrets and lies…Will it be enough to ruin Mordecai and Haverty’s relationship or the foundation of it?
Haverty and Mordecai romance progressed fast but when you're willing to give love a chance anything goes and anything is expected. Hero got exactly what she wanted for Christmas. The bombshell that dropped made their faith grow. I loved this story with its twists and turns. It showed the miracle of Christmas. I pray that there's a sequel!😜😜😜
This is my first reading from Author Candice “ORDERED STEPS” Johnson, and will definitely not be my last! I was captured from the beginning of the story until the end! I laughed, got mad, fell in love with Hero, and prayed along with them! This was a great book! Kudos, Ms. Johnson! 💜
Loved, loved, loved this book! OMG I don't know where to start with this review but what I won't do is spoil anything because you have got to read it for yourself. There was life, love, and much laughter; I mean who spends their first date at a fake funeral? Well done!
I absolutely loved it and little Hero! Once again, the author has penned a heartwarming tale with just the right amount of humor. Grab a nice, warm beverage and curl up with this awesome holiday story of love, restoration and forgiveness.
There were sprinkles of humor throughout the book. I enjoy Christian Romances but this book had one of my biggest pet peeves with this genre. The men are flawed but the heroines are almost perfect. The romance did not seem believable but overall a pretty ok quick read.
