I moved into one of the rental houses owned by the club while my own house was being built. I wasn’t happy about it, but I was too old to move back in with my mother, even for just a few weeks. It was a nice, quiet neighborhood. Until the girl next door moved in and turned my world upside down before I even knew who she was.
River
I had the worst luck. With three months left on my nursing contract, they sent me to the one place I swore I’d never return—my hometown of Devil Springs. I didn’t have a childhood full of happy memories to return to. I had a drug-addicted mother and an a**hole brother. But it was just for three months. What could possibly happen?

Teagan has done it again! Judge keeps you on the edge of your seat with every twist and turn thrown your way. Judge is the perfect mixture of sexy alpha with a whole lot of sweetness tossed in. I love how River is strong, independent and doesn’t take crap from anyone. And let’s not forget the laugh out loud moments I had with this book. I love when a story can give me all the feels and that’s exactly what you get with Judge. I highly recommend this book!
This is the second book in the Blackwings MC: Devils Springs Charter by Teagan Brooks. River is a traveling nurse who has three months left on her current contract when she’s sent to Devils Springs to work in the ER of the hospital there. River grew up in Devils Springs and got out of there the first chance she could. She changed her name and left behind a junky, whore mother and a brother, neither of which does she ever wanna see again. Jonah Jackson aka Judge is a member of the Blackwings MC and he’s somewhat accident prone. He ends up in the ER needing stitches in his hand, River is glad when he doesn’t recognize her. But then again, why would he ? She was the fat little sister of one of his friends who had a crush on him a long time ago. Something about River is getting to Judge and to make matters worse he keeps running into her. He’s living in a house the club owns while his house is being built and River has moved in next door. When he finds out who she is and who her brother is he knows he’s gotta call Croftridge and tell him ASAP even if she wants nothing to do with him. I knew who the prologue was right away so there were no surprises there. I’ve read every single one of this author’s books and while I do think she’s very talented I think the long-lost brother/sister trope has been played to death and this I’m hoping is the last one.
River never wanted to be back in Devil Spring again, she left the life she had behind and wanted that door to stay closed. However as a traveling nurse she is assigned there for three months and has every plan to keep under the radar but she catches the eye of her neighbor Judge. Initially she rebuffs Judge but Judge quickly finds a way into River's heart. The only problem is danger is lurking and she gets reassigned in three months, will Judge let her to though?
This was terrific, really like Judge a lot. River has a horrible past and it was amazing to see how she built a life for herself and did not fall into the traps that could easily have been tempting. Wonderful story.
It took me a couple of days to gather my thoughts and words in order to leave my review for Judge. If I had to chose a word to describe this book to anyone it would be MIND-BLOWN!!! Sweet Baby Jesus, Teagan Brooks has completely outdone herself with book 2 in the Blackwings MC Devil Springs series. From the very first sentence in the prologue, to the last word in the book, I was completely captivated. HANDS DOWN a 10 Star MUST READ!! Judge and River’s characters pull you in from the very beginning. The storyline is so addictive you don’t want to put the book down and never stop reading. I LOVED every single moment living in the Blackwings MC world. I laughed, I cried, I got pissed, I fell in love, my mind was absolutely blown away with this book!!! I can officially say that Judge and River have not only taken a place in my heart but they are a part of my soul. Hands down the best #1 read of 2019 until Teagan Brooks releases the next book in the series. My favorite author NEVER disappoints and always brings her “A” game!!! I can absolutely guarantee you will love Judge just as much, if not more, then I do so do not hesitate to pick up your copy!!!! Thank you Teagan Brooks for another fantastic ride!! Until next time...
This book follows Judge and River who knew each other in high school, he was her brothers best friend and she was the wall flower that once she could got a way out of town to make it on her own. Once River has an assignment back in her hometown she automatically regrets she runs into those she never wanted to see again and Judge doesn’t even recognize her. Her issues become Judge’s and as they grow closer people are out to hurt her. Judge decides he will never let that happen. There were a lot of twists, turns, and excitement. I really enjoyed the part about the tail of the dragon especially since I grew up near a place extremely similar if not the same. I can’t wait to read more in this series.
Initially, with this book, I was a little irritated by River’s attitude. She really did not have to take up the nursing assignment and having done so, I found her a little childish about the whole thing. But I think as a story of addiction and being the child of an addict and also as a story of the parent of a victim of addiction, I think this was somewhat successful. I liked Judge and River’s relationship and the growth of it. I loved how much Judge supported River, and overall, I like the ensemble Blackwings MC cast of characters and how much they grow through the books. Does this have teething issues, yes, but overall, it was okay and a good addition to the series.
This one has lots of funny moments interspersed with the drama and steam.
I loved the main characters. Judge is so sweet even with his bad boy personna and River is so strong and sassy but still so vulnerable. It was also nice catching up with the rest of the motley crew.
First things first; I love the cover of this book! Judge is book two in the black wings MC Devil springs series. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. River hasn’t been back to devil springs for years. When the nursing agency she works for sends her to her hometown for three months, she isn’t happy. Judge has no plans to find love but that soon changes. Judge is conflicted. He wants River but she is a club member’s estranged sister. When dangerous things keep happening, Judge is determined to keep River safe. The chemistry between Judge and River is clear to see and I liked them as a couple. I liked the build up to them getting together. I really liked that Dash and River sorted their issues and reunited. I liked this story but I was a little confused on why River was set up. I understood what happened with Gwendolyn’s family but I failed to understand why River was set up. I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read. I cannot wait to dive into the next book in this series.
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Judge River ---------------------------------- What happens? River comes back to Devli Springs to work as a temporary nurse at the local hospital. She is unwilling to be there as she knows her drug addict mother is probably a local and her brother who she hates could also be around. Judge is captivated by the beauty next door to him. She fixed his hand at the hospital and then they both discovered they lived next door to each other. When a fire breaks out on her property Judge rescues her and gets her to stay in the same home as him for her protection especially when he finds out who her brother is and who he is to the club! Final thoughts This was a good read. I loved the integration with the other chapter and their characters; we see Phoenix briefly which I loved and also Dash and Ember and their baby; I really enjoyed that part the most. Judge is a strong character and I thought he was a good guy at that. I enjoyed his romance with River. River I loved she was a nice person and I liked that she was a nurse. I'm excited to see more of her in the next book. Would I read again?: Yes Would I read this author again?: Yes
I was pulled into the story right from the beginning and that is where I stayed until I had finished every single word that was written. All the while I was watching it play out in my head. There are twists, turns and surprises await you within the pages of this book. Some of the surprises are large and some are small. Some you may see coming, while others you won't. But all are equally important and help to make the story the fantastic read that it is. Emotions are rife throughout the book, and every emotion that the characters went through can be felt, some actually hit you hard and pull on your heart strings. I went through each and every emotion along with the characters. There were a few times in the book that the characters had me laughing. I highly recommend this book and the series. You won't be sorry that you took a ride with the Blackwings MC..
I bing-read this entire series over the weekend. I loved each book from the original Blackwings MC series to this Devil Spings extended series. Judge was amazing. It deals with addiction and how it hurts not just the person with the addiction. The relationship between Judge and River was well thought out and refreshing. I am not one to get real emotional whether it's touching, sad or funny when reading a book. However, the end of this book had me laughing so hard I had tears running down my face. Please read all the books but in particular read all of this book and not skip to the end. I promise it is well worth the read
Teagan has a tendency to suck you into her books and get you so invested in her characters that you never want the book to end. Judge is a book I didn't want to put down. Loved Judge and River. River is one of my favorite h in the series. She was quick witted, sassy, loyal, and loving. Judge was the quintessential bada$$ biker with a soft spot for his woman. I love how the Blackwings MC is a tight family unit that supports each other. This is one of my favorite series and I am so excited for the next installment in the series.
I loved Judge and River’s story. River had a great sense of humor and I loved how their romance unfolded around the plot of the story. I also love how characters from previous books are given a POV. This series (both Charters) is seriously one of the best series I’ve read in a long time. Teagan Brooks is a great writer. The plot keeps you on edge and the editing is spot on.
What to say about Judge and River! This book was great. It had suspense, so much laughter and super hot steam as well. You could easily read Judge without having read the other Blackwings books but seriously start from Dash because they are all amazing and each previous book you've read just makes the next book that much better.
I do NOT consider this to be a STAND-ALONE read. It is part of a spin-off series about the Devil Springs chapter that contains multiple reoccurring characters from previous stories, as well as the original Blackwings MC series. It also has details that cannot be adequately recapped within the scope of another story that contributes to the story universe / world building, overlapping / concurrent timelines and overarching themes.
⛔️ The series contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including: adult language; derogatory terms; mental health challenges; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, restraints, spanking for pleasure, “bottom” play, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, betrayal, coercion, blackmail, threats, subterfuge, money laundering, gun running, cheating, prostitution, human trafficking, drug use, drug manufacturing, drug distribution, as well as the mental, physical and sexual abuse of females and/or children, etc.
** Caution: Contains scenes with reference to, or detailed graphic violence against females and children that fit into the storyline, but may be a trigger for some **
There are very few grammatical issues primarily comprised of incorrect word choice (I.e. they’re iso their) and tense, punctuation errors, missed words and extra inserted words. I am mentioning these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
I really enjoyed this story. Maybe it is because it was written with a sense of humor (especially loved the bonus “prologue” at the end …🤣), or maybe it was because there was more substance. Regardless of the reason, there are a lot of things that transpire between the book covers. It has a decent pace, maybe a little too fast in some aspects, as there are a couple of areas that required a little more work by Teagan Brooks.
Perfect amount of drama, tears, and belly laughter comedy
This is a on a topic that is very important to you you know one of the crisis is of the country anyway drugs are real bad and all too often we justify the use of drugs whether it be citing medical reasons or whatever but the fact of the matter is as people abused those kind of a justifications and seems like what happened in this book happens people die people are hurt innocent people suffer. Basically drugs are bad M'Kay. Now the very last chapter of this book Layla's epilogue getting through the whole book just read that chapter is worth it. Ice it seriously took me forever to read that chapter because I couldn't stop laughing. Isaiah I really love these books with the exception of badger, which was very much rushed and only given half the effort all the rest of these books are extremely well-thought-out and the plots are really good more often than not more focus is put on to the smart rather than the plot but this time there is a good balance between a good plot and just the right amount of smut. I've read this series twice already so this is my third go around and there are a few of the guys that I just could not bring myself to like you no matter what you know and it's fine and I'm really sad in that Coal's book has never been released I hope one day she does release it
Spice lvl: 🌶️🌶️ It took me awhile to start reading this book after I got it, not sure why. I know I read the first one. And I think the first one made me need a break before I started it. But jeez am I disappointed in myself. I should've started reading it sooner. It has a really cool plot with cute interactions, amazing plot, and who doesn't love doctor hospital plots thrown in. You rarely see it in books, and more so in TV shows. So it was awesome to see here.
The only reason this book wasn't given a 5/5 ⭐ rating is because it had a few flaws I just couldn't get past. Like the prologue at the beginning of the book, I'm aware of who it is now. Because you basically can guess it. But at the beginning I was super thrown off about it for the whole book. For some people that probably works and they love it. Me personally wasn't a fan. The spicy scenes were nice, not amazing. But nice. It felt kinda sudden how they started, but it was still adorable and fit. His denial for the whole book was super cute of him. At parts, the plot was a tiny bit hard to follow. Making me have to take many mental notes so I don't actively forget the plot or forget what is happening as I continue further into the story. All in all, it wasn't a bad read. But I felt it could've had some things adjusted about it to make the reader pulled into the book more.
I’m glad we finally got more of Judge’s story. He was featured as a secondary character throughout the original Blackwings series, especially in Duke and Carbon since Duke and Harper are his cousins. He was a very multifaceted character. I loved his relationship with his mom and his cousins, but his relationship with River was just what he needed.
River’s backstory was a little different from the other stories in this universe. She had a hard childhood and was hesitant to return to Devil Springs. She was closed off to any kinds of emotions until she keeps running into her brother’s friend, and her new neighbor. There was a lot for River to work through and her relationship with Judge was something she wasn’t expecting.
Judge saved River multiple times and felt a pull towards her, even before he realized who her brother was. He was instrumental in getting River to let down her walls and mend the relationship with her brother. What River was put through in this book was unimaginable but Judge and the Blackwings helped her through it.
This was a great addition to this series. There were definitely some things left open for the other members of the MC club.
This one was hard for me to follow with all of the different names of different people that were only mentioned a few times. There were so many different people mentioned for the first time that were “bad guys” it was hard to keep them straight and understand. But that said it was a pretty good story line. I think when she was arrested she should have pressed charges so hopefully no one else would be wrongfully arrested before they were questioned. Also I couldn’t decide if I liked River or not. She had been through a lot and I felt for her for that. But she was plain stupid and child like when it came to animals, the outdoors, her brother, and I’m sure there’s more. I didn’t see the twist of her being framed coming. I did really like Judge though and how he knew what he wanted and didn’t play games about it. Total badass sweetheart. And the added bonus chapter was totally the best part!

I enjoyed this read. It had a great "who done it" story and the mystery along with the romance kept me engaged. I do wish that there was more development in the H and h story but I am satisfied with what we got.
I will say that it is better to have read the previous books because I came in not knowing any of the characters and it was so confusing to keep up with everyone. Especially since it was clear they were trying to introduce us to new possible love interests for later books. It was too much.
Also, I know it sounds silly but my biggest pet peeve in books is when authors do not research the simplest facts. You only pay 10% off a bail upfront. You pay the rest if you do not come back for trial. And while it is a little detail I think it does hold value to the story. The amount that was paid shows the support and family that this character didn't realize they had therefore it is mentioned a few times and is not a throwaway line.
I loved the other Blackwings series with Phoenix, Dash etc. This one butts up against that series with Copper and the guys. The characters are great. The major problem with the books is they are a little disjointed. One chapter doesn't always lead into the next as she jumps ahead with the story. They need a little reworking and embellishment to make the story flow. Judge meets a girl from the area but fails to recognize her as she has lost significant weight. She is a traveling nurse who winds up returning to her old home town much to her chagrin. It is there that she meets Judge as he visits the ER to get his hand stitched up. It is also were she meets her drug addicted mother who tries to shake her down for drugs. The plot thickens from there. A good read despite the disjointed nature of the writing. Definitely worth your time.
I never worked it out, in fact it wasn't even in my head until I read the author's note at the end. In one way this story worried me into thinking how easy it would be to be charged with a crime you were innocent of. Right place wrong time or an argument you had forgotten about. River was unhappily back as a contracted agency nurse where she had lived years before. Hoping not to bump into any person she had previously known, she keeps her head down, however events unfold despite all her precautions. Judge first meets River when he appears in A & E at the hospital. She recognises him from years ago, but he does not recognise her.
A good couple of characters with the usual secondary characters from the club.
HILARIOUGS! Judge and River's story so far is the best in the serious. I started Ms. Brooks books awhile ago and for some reason was not overly impressed. I recently revisited her MC series and now convinced she is one of my favorite authors. I love the way she keeps the drama rolling without it being too dramatic as well as her comedy is not forced. Judge, is total badass with a heart and River is smart, snarky take no sh*t type of girl. If you are reading this book at it is your first I would suggest starting at the very beginning with the original Blackwing's, as several this is a cross over book that includes both clubs. This book was funny, it was sad, it was "oh no she did not" kind of good!
I loved this book. But to be honest I was totally confused throughout it because of how the book started out with the prologue. Usually it's a scene that involves someone that is a constant throughout the entire book. Not this one and to be honest I don't see why it would need to be covered in the beginning of the book. It could've been covered towards the end. It just through the whole story off for me because reading it made you think the story was going to go one way and it just did a whole different thing. This is truly a 5-Star book but I'm giving it a 4.5-Star rating on the account that it had me totally confused by the Prologue and the rest of the book until I was nearing the end of the book and all the pieces was finally put together.
I love all the books in the Blackwing series and Devil Springs is no exception. The author touches a very delicate subject without being tact less. The main and suporting character were incredible as always and I can't wait to start the next one. O man I would like a Blackwing of my own, total alphas, sexy as all hell sweet and thoughtful and major protective. The ladies all need help but non are wilting little flowers. I love it! I love the connection the books have with one another but you can also read them out of order without one spoiling the other. I would strongly suggest to read them in order tho.
Judge & River: triggers- drugs, addiction, overdose, vandalism. This book goes a little bit darker than the previous book since it's dealing with drugs and addiction but it's still a really good book. River is a traveling nurse returning to her hometown for her newest assignment and Judge is an old friend of her brothers. This book is nothing but family drama and plot twists and I'm here for it. Drugs are becoming more prominent in Devil Springs and the club isn't sure who's being targeted to go down for them, the club or River. The story is smoking hot while remaining mysterious. Really good book.
Going back to a place where some of the worst moments of your life happened can suck, but it can also be just what you need to really start living. This is a story of drugs, death, and destruction. It's also a story of family, home, and love. I was a little worried about reading this one because I never really connected with Judge for some reason. That worry was unfounded though. Judge might be a little rough around the edges, but he is a great guy. When someone starts messing with his woman and his club though, you better watch out!
Loved Judge and River. Loved the story line and the introduction of new characters to the Devil Springs series. As with previous books this one had plenty of emotion and lots of drama. Judge was a great character to get to know more about as he has appeared in plenty of the previous books. River was a likeable character, she was a little prickly at the start, but for me that just endeared her to me more.
I especially loved the bonus epilogue- so funny. Now on to book 3 in this series.
I feel like these books are a case of rinse and repeat. Every book follows the same format, and unfortunately, imo, the plots are growing weaker and blander. Also, the romance and steam in these books always start off hot and heavy, but by around 50-60%, it just tapers off into non-existence. For this book, I just didn’t buy into the romance much. It felt too convenient and cookie-cutter. There was nothing unique about Judge and River’s love story. I’m not sure if I’ll continue this series anymore. I’m a tad bored with them.
