About Book: Roy's Frosted Glass did very well in the market. His Pentacles and Winter Poems, did so well that Amazon Audible converted them into Audio books by the Australian young jazz singer, Colin Newcomer. Abyss was on the bestseller list at the Oxford Bookstore at the Kolkata Book Fair in 2014. Random Subterranean Mosaic: 2012–2018 is a kaleidoscope of random, yet mysteriously structured to a pattern, fiction, semi-autobiographical, and autobiographical pieces, covering poems, short-shorts, opinions, observations, and conversations. Roy says: “All my life I have struggled to achieve an optimal lucidity in language and expression that is required to demystify the hidden self and selves and agendas. I hope I have achieved this in a large measure in this fifth book of mine!”
About Author : Sabarna Roy is the author of four books: Pentacles, Frosted Glass, Abyss, and Winter Poems. A civil engineer by profession (he passed out from Jadavpur University in 1988), Roy spends his time on books, music, movies and international television series, when he is not writing or at work in an engineering-manufacturing organization in Kolkata. With no love for pets or gardening (although he loves forests and wildlife) or socializing, and a lot of time for introspection and deep (and not-so-deep!) thinking, Roy’s works reflect his views on the global order and individuals striving to find their place in it.
Sabarna Roy is Senior Vice President [Business Development] at Electrosteel Castings Limited, an author of eight Literary and three Technical bestselling books, TEDx Speaker, Champions of Change Award 2020 Winner, Times Excellence Award 2021 Winner in Indian Literature, and Golden Glory Award Winner for Critically Acclaimed Bestselling Author of the Year 2021. Sabarna Roy has been awarded the Right Choice Awards for Author of Eminence 2022. Sabarna Roy has been selected among the India Today Group: Icons of India. Presently, he is writing his ninth Literary work: an epistolary novel, which is likely to be published in the winter of 2022/23.
As the title of the book indicates, Random Subterranean Mosiac: 2012 – 2018, Time frozen in myriad thoughts by Sabarna Roy is a compilation of 93 various different topics that has no specific theme to them but are rather an amalgamation of random stories entangled in a very labyrinthine manner.
This book is an artistic piece that even though being void of a particular mannerism to it, has the power to keep the attention span of its readers.
The two stories which stood out for me were: ☘️A Letter to my Son ☘️A Letter to My Daughter
A letter to my son tells us the emotion of a father whose son is leaving abroad to pursue his Masters. The father also gives some advise that was indeed very valuable.
A letter to my Daughter is a story about how a father came to love his child. After having wanted only Son, when life blessed him with a baby girl, everything changed one day, two years later when an incident brought the pair together.
The poems that were included in this book were also written very beautifully. Having previously gotten a chance of being able to read another poems of the author, I knew that he does have a knack for writing poetry.
Reading the book was for sure an unique experience for me because I am not sure if I have ever came across any book that has so many different topics and has such a variety of topics. Though, I have to admit, at times, it did get a bit difficult to wove through the randomness of the various stories, but it did get better once we get used to it.
Overall, to sum up my review, I can say that this book was a perfect testament of how a general view point of an individual can result into a great piece of art. I am going to give this book Four Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Title- Random Subterranean Mosaic: 2012-2018 Time frozen in myriad thoughts Author- Sabarna Roy @authorsabarna Genre- Stories, Poetry and Freestyle writing Format- Kindle
As the title suggests this book consists of 93 short chapters that Author has written about random topics ranging from stories, letters, his experience of being to different places like Gulmarg, Himalayas, Kerala and many more, about food he liked there or few specific dishes to the places he stays, political views, also in few chapters he has expressed his opinions on loneliness, assisted suicide made legal, our increasing fast pace addiction.
In few he writes about different people and their stories like the one of a girl named Mari and here two father's and many others, some letters to his loved ones, about his Father, Capitalism, Communism and Politics, Chapter about Karl Marx, Gandhi and few other chapters accompanied.
For a reader, it's subjective to each individual reading that which chapter they would connect. Some might agree to author's view point while some won't. Personally, I loved to read his perspectives and opinions on most of the chapters and while reading they pushed me to think alot about every topic Author touched. Though some chapters weren't that engaging for me but that couldn't really stop me to complete this book.
Key Highlights- ~ Well suitable cover and title ~ Surely every chapter from this book will add some or the other value and information as you read. ~ A whole different writing style than the usual stories and books that we read.
And If you are regular reader of Author Sabarna's books then this book will definately give you details of his personality. Overall I would recommend this one to those who don't mind informative read and knowing about someone's life and opinions randomly interests them.
“Random Subterranean Mosaic 2012 – 2018 - Time frozen in myriad thoughts” by Sabarana Roy is indeed random. This is fiction or non-fiction or poetry or all of the above; difficult to say. The stories/ poems are short and easy to read.
This is semi-autobiographical too. It’s a commentary on politics and current affairs. It has random musings of author.
This is a mixed bag. Good, bad and ugly. You may read some and skip some.
☘️The book cover after ( turning the phone upside down in curiousity) It is shadow of person which I think it apt book so well perfect! ☘️It is more like diary it represents his thoughts, perspective on random thing. ☘️It has short stories, quotation, poems, letter. ☘️I love some like chilka, Banaras, childhood snacks mari esi short story, letter tot he daughter. ☘️Writing style is simple yet elegant. ☘️The line written on the book ' Time frozen in myraid thoughts it gets straight to my heart! ☘️This is different read from usual book! ☘️Overall it is really delight for readers ☘️Highly recommended!
It was my second book from Sabarna Roy .The first being pentacles , so I can say somewhat familiar with the approach to a story and his writing style in general . However this book took me by surprise , I was some ramdom stuff but none of this kind. This book has total of 93 chapter which contains all everything beginning from short stories to poem to book recommendation to quotes and what not. Overall this is a small book packed with surprises and I highly recommend it.
Sabarna Roy the amazing author of the book "Random Subterranean Mosaic : 2012-2018" firmly believes that his attempts to solve his inner mysteries and express them to the reader is largely achieved in this book. Every chapter of the book reminds me of it's name 'Random' as the stories are randomly picked from the authors life and the book as a whole looks more like his personal diary.
Every chapter has some hidden lessons for the reader which can be useful at different stages of life.
The content of every chapter is unlinked and ranges from love letters to rise of capitalism, from politics to his father. His life chapters and a lot of varied cultures.
The entire book is just a mixture of vivid experiences, truth and reconciliation.
Though this book contains some chapters which are misplaced but still can give you a best ride throughout. And as the name suggests Random Subterranean Mosaic !
This is truly an erratic flow of the authors thoughts, personally I have never read anything like this before.
An arresting & Invigorating write-up which includes everything from Short impactful Stories, Poetry,Travel Diaries, Food, Book recommendations,Ailments, Political & Social ideologies,Sexuality etc... After many chapters you may either be concurred with the authors opinion or Agree to Disagree both ways it will keep you preoccupied.
My favourite poetry was “Banaras” nothing to do with the fact of it being my hometown but the profundity of the thought portrayed. Capitalism,Marxism, Communism is dissected and presented in a very unbiased way. The author minces no words when it comes to his Political beliefs or certain debatable topic like “Assisted Suicide” or Euthanasia.
In all read this book with a prejudice-free mindset which is written by a self-proclaimed snob (pun intended)
Title - RANDOM SUBTERRANEAN MOSIAC: 2012 – 2018 Time frozen in myriad thoughts
Author - SABARNA ROY
This is the fourth book that I've read from author Sabarna Roy.
This book is different from the other books of his. This is more of a collection of various genres : thoughts, verses, poems, short story, conversations, and everything is related to Author.
In a way we can say that it is an overview of how author thinks and what his perceptions are about everything that has been jotted down.
Out of the 93 chapters, not every part would be acceptable for everyone.
Like everyone has a different perception and that's what makes it one interesting read.
Debating the ideologies is the key fir getting the answer In depth.
My favourite lines were a thought he'd stated in the initial chapters
"The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion." By Albert Camus, The Rebel: An Essay on Man in Revolt
It is one interesting read and the debating nature of the content gives it a attractive touch.
Here's my review Random Subterranean Mosaic 2012-2018 I was just amazed to find it covers almost everything from stories, poems, opinions, observation, conversation in a random fashion it's one of its kind and unique in its way. It also describes the author experiences at a few cities he has visited in the past the book is 248 pages long and is divided into 93 chapters most of them are only a few pages long. The book cover is very attractive and eye catchy. The title of the book is apt and totally related to the story. The author has done a great job that we can visualise it easily. The flow of the book is fast paced and engaging which keeps the readers hooked till the end. Overall, a page turner. A must read for you all. Happy reading.
This book is like a little diary which has been written from different stages of life, coming from the author's personal experiences from the year 2012 to 2018. I am unrestrained in my admiration for this book. The raw hard truth of one's personal thoughts, convictions and opinions and on top of that, all the quotes and books he recommends throughout was great.
The book consists of all types of creative nonfiction from immersion reportage to personal essay to the author's individual thoughts on different topics, short stories and frameworks of thinking about life. It gives the reader a sense of inspiration to keep a diary which could help us to clarify the goals, to focus our inner energies, free inhibitions and release the imagination.
My favourite parts being the author talking about his dreams, or rant and reinvent the opinions and observations, like in —A Manifesto On Loneliness As My Mentor. This chapter gives a sense of genuineness and displays the full range of the author's wit, humour and charm. In this chapter the author has noted ten points on why he's been left alone. He vividly discusses his loneliness in all spheres of life, how with the passage of time one loses the capability to deal with less nonsense and hence get his circle smaller and eventually lonelier. And I absolutely agreed with the points mentioned.
I have dipped back into this book again and again before going to bed. Also the fact that it's an ebook makes it even easier an ideal bed book during this lockdown.
Interesting amalgamation of fiction, non fiction and various themes.
SUBTERRAREAN MOSAIC is s semi-autobiographical work of fiction ,non-fiction ,poems ,stories , commentaries and thoughtful musings of the author ,presented in a random manner but finely intimate and engrossing to indulge into.
These musings and narration involves in total 93 chapters which ranges from various literary forms expressing various reminiscences of past memories , conversations that added value to his life and after thoughts ,childhood incidents that he cherishes wondering-wandering about and around various emotions of happiness ,sadness and love .
As with each turning page something interesting enfolds and with every chapter there is a different tone and vibe to the narration . The random collection of various subjects is tied by a rough knot of human emotions some being impactful ,inspiring and thought provoking whereas some chapters doesn't hit the bar set so high by the author's accompanying musings .
Sabarna Roy has successfully combined stories from his personal treasure trove of memories ,incidents and created an amalgamation of variant emotions and situations which are inspiring, engrossing and beautiful .
I highly recommend this book to who are exploring for some refreshing work of combined genres and themes.
Random subterranean mosaic 2012-2018 is a collection of autobiographical narrative , poems, philosophical thoughts and conversations.
This one is a composition of brilliantly written raw content that reflects the world the way it is, as the name suggests random subterranean thoughts dispersed all around the book like a mosaic waiting to be put all together.
It takes you all around the world, explores different cultures, it's food, cinema and drama, political history, the roots of state that binds a person to it.It explores human nature at it's core, extremely practical, lucid and gloomy.
The language is advanced in nature and consists of 93 short chapters. I'd suggest this book to adults or people mature enough to understand the content as most of the book deals with TW: suicide and political agendas that some people may find offensive or may have a difference of opinion.
This is my first time reading Sabarna Roys work and I personally loved this book and the author has done a commendable job bringing out topics that are most of the time hard to put out there. The author already has published four books namely Pentacles, Frosted Glass, Abyss, and Winter Poems.
RANDOM SUBTERRANEAN MOSAIC is a compilation of mini tales ( 93 in numbers) which varies from political, Social to personal. Stories are flooding as with years from 2012-2018.
Things have been changed so do stories and their critical ways. New ideas and opinions with every coming year have been jotted down nicely. Arguments or say intellectual views are very nicely expressed.
Not just opinions but the good thing are best possible solutions have been given by Author Sabarna like In Land and Agrarian Reforms, He said,
The farmland should be owned by the farmer who produces crops. There will be no landless peasant, and the farmers will have complete autonomy. Do away with the feudal or corporate ownership of farmlands. This will bring about a revolution in the quality and quantity of agricultural produce in the country.
Similarly, Medical Reform, Judicial, and following Educational Reforms have been Highlighted in the same article.
From one of his chapter Networking
"The word author derives itself from the Latin word auteur, which means ‘to suffer". Without sufferance how was it possible to become a literary creative writer?
There are so many times I find authors' views as mine like in Reservation, Media, or Govt role. Whereas at other I felt completely alienated. It was like some random stuff thrown away on readers as is mentioned in the title also 'Random'.But even then I was finding something to get connected with.
RANDOM SUBTERRANEAN MOSAIC 2012 – 2018 - TIME FROZEN IN MYRIAD THOUGHTS- SABARNA ROY
Ratings: 4/5⭐ Genre: Anthology Number of Pages: 271 Format: Kindle Publication Date: 15th May, 2019 Publisher: Leadstart Publishing Pvt Ltd
Random Subterranean Mosaic by Sabarna Das is a collection of random short stories, poems, proses, quotes, letters and thoughts weaved together in a 271 pages book. It can be said to be a fairly good written book. The writing is easy, lucid and descriptive. The chapters are so randomly arranged (as the title suggests) that you really don't know what's coming next, which kind of makes it intriguing. It's a simple read and if you're having those "reader's blocks" and want to pick up something light yet good enough to read you can pick this one. The fact that the author has been completely honest with his perspective be it on his life experiences, family, relationships or politics (being a liberal) makes the book more likeable. However, if you're reading the book in one go, it might turn out to be a bit monotonous. Overall, it's a fine book.

🌷This book is a collection of different combinations like Prose, Politics and epic travelogue memories.
🌷Random Subterranean Mosaic 2012-2018 seems partly autobiographical and fiction book.
🌷It has a total of ninety three chapters which makes this book complete mixture of everything.
🌷The author explains own experience and Political view of author and vibrations on them.
🌷 Sabarna Roy mildly explored different essence in kolkata city and enjoyed of feeling emotions turned with soulful poems.
🌷Perfectly Represented the poetic imperative in the most convincing manner that soothes the internal clamour of any reader.
🌷When i was choosing the book, I saw the cover the pretty colour and the print "Random Subterranean" started amazes from the very beginning of with easy lucid language and great compilation.
How does life treats us?! Very well? Fairly good? Almost bad? Maybe it treats everyone all the same. Our degrees and definitions vary. Everyone sees bad patches of life and the glimmers as well. Random Subterranean Mosaic is a collection of short tales and writings by author Sabarna Roy that portrays random colour strokes of life.
As the title suggests the book gives us random glimpses of different tints and hues of life. The author has done a great job creating this mosaic with his observations on life, politics, human emotions and vulnerabilities, travel delights, films, books, music and much more. The author has expressed his views in quite genuine and honest ways, in stillness of moments and the slaps of reality alike.
The book i will say is quite versatile. It is a mixed bag of poems, prose, ideas, beliefs, facts, theories, random musings and past reminiscences of author too. The writing style is not too flimsy but lucid and comfortable. The author's ideologies are remarkable and his words do justice to it.
I enjoyed some of the parts of the book thoroughly, the letters and poems were my favorite ones. But some topics like politics that were not of my interest kind of created hindrances for me ; again that's a personal opinion. Overall the book was a good contemporary read.
Random subterrnean mosaic as the name is its a collection of random thoughts of author, this is the 5th book by the author and my 3rd read, it has 93 chapters in the form of poetry, quotes, letters, journals, short-stories, random thoughts/opnions about his journey, political thoughts, places his personal and social observations. Lately i have started reading Sabrna Roy's work alot, and m absolutely in love with his previous work and thats why i picked another book of him, again this book has amazed me, everything is randomly but smarty compiled in the form of book, which impressed me alot, you dont know what next chapter will be about, my favourite were his travelogue among them my personal favourtie are 'First snowfall' 'Randomly' and the poem 'From the ashes' too. This book as random as it is but still is very brilliant work with deep meaning held in between, this book is like you are entering a personal space of the author, like reading his diary, thats what i love the most about this book. Will highly recommend it to everyone who need light or refreshing short read
BOOK NAME: Random Subterranean Mosaic: 2012-2018 AUTHOR: Sabarna Roy GENRE: Non-Fiction FORMAT: Kindle
✒This is already my third book by the author. Normally, I don't read Kindle versions, but the contents of Sabarna's books are quite vivid and unique. Same goes with this book.
✒This book has a great table of contents; for one, Poetry, like it always has, to describe others-Letters, travel diaries, political opinions, and moreover diary entries, that becomes the most interesting part.
✒I like the way the author describes his life, just like he is writing a diary. He expresses and celebrates with his readers. For a personality, this time he talks about Mahatma Gandhi and how he affects his life.
✒Though the topics and themes are different everytime, I enjoyed reading it. Though there is no connection between the chapters, the random chapters will interest you at places.
✒The writing style is good and language is easy as well. But, I felt this book to be a bit lengthy than the others by this author. So, I couldn't complete this in one sitting. You can definitely give it a try.
This is the fifth book by the author. It is a collection of prose, poems, travel stories, conversations, political opinions etc. The book has 93 chapters. There is no particularl order in which way the book is written and published. Each chapter is short in its context. As it covers most of the genres, one might feel a little off the track at times. But if you focus on each chapter, you will definitely enjoy.
I have read four more books of the author i.e. Frosted Glass, Winter Poems, Pentacles and Etchings of the First Quarter of 2020. I liked most of them. The author's writing style is unique and language used is really impressive.
This book is a combination of myriad thoughts of the auther. It is more like a dairy but not written as dairy. This book is a combination of 93 chapters which are not connected with eachother but have lesson for life from the experiences of author. All the chapters of the book being different from each other makes it attractive because we do not know what we will get in the next chapter. These chapters covers random stories, poems, opinions, observation, conversation of author's autobiographical pieces. It's a mosiac of author's journey and experiences.
Cover can be more better but title is intresting and perfect for the book. Overall a good one time read but a bit lengthy. Do read it once. Nice book.
Book— Random Subterranean Mosaic: 2012-2018 – Time frozen in myriad thoughts Author— Sabarna Roy Format— Amazon Kindle Length: 270 pages Rating: 4.1/5 Review: Sabarna Roy’s Random Subterranean Mosaic: 2012-2018 should not be considered as a typical book, rather it is some random thoughts, conversations, poems, and short stories written by the author in a random way. But the writings are well segregated in proper sub-chapters without messing up the flow of the book. There 93 chapters in the book are about the author’s childhood travels, family gatherings, thoughts about his parents, growing up, birth of his children and their upbringing. These are more like diary entries without following the format. I connected with the places author travelled and I could relate with his experiences there, well written! The way he defines himself and his emotions for his second wife are so raw and engaging that you are bound to feel connected. His likes, his dislikes, his perspective towards various aspects of life, recalling past incidents are all included in these chapters. It was more like a semi-autobiography, just not in a diary format. The book justifies its title random mosaic as the chapters given in the book are too random and comes one-by-one. The vintage look of the book is also well designed. What I disliked is there were some chapters which was becoming too monotonous to read, I felt it was unnecessary. Although most of the chapters are short, you may feel a bit bored at the middle. Overall, a good one-time read, but could have been more precise. Narration is unusual, but if you have read Sabarna Roy’s books before, you should be used to it. Chapters are short, but surely will make a lasting impact on you. Would recommend this book if you want to read something totally different!
By each let this be heard Some do it with a bitter look Some with a flattering word The Coward does it with a kiss The Brave man with a sword ------Oscar Wilde------
“Random Subterranean Mosaic 2012 – 2018”, is my fifth book from Sabarna Roy. Sometimes, I feel the more I read from him either I lose grasp of his writing pattern which I feel sometimes it’s quite easy to understand and yet delusional in another way. The book is a collection of Random exposure of thoughts and feelings and all get intertwined together like a journal or diary which we keep to write down our experiences. Most of these experiences are travel memories, insights from his daily life, his own experiences, experiences of his loved ones, and experiences of the unknown.
The stories or observations which were mentioned in these books are mostly based on real-life experiences of the author, I hardly believe anything was fictional. But the way he presented it was amazing, I think it was actually a brave attempt to present a book in this jumbled manner.
Through his experiences, he has shown the nature of humans, such as when a doctor gave him a wrong perception. His everlasting experiences in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, politics in West Bengal. I think even though all these things are not directly impactful towards the life of a monotonous office going, person. Who works from 9 to 5 yet, all these debates and chit chat happens in lunch and tea breaks.
I would recommend this book to everyone who would like to read something light.
The painter who draws merely by practice and by eye, without any reason, is like a mirror which copies everything placed in front of it without being consicous of their existence. ••• This phrase goes well with the title of the story, it questions our very purpose of existence. Just like many others, I do have a habit of judging a book by its cover and this is exactly why today am reading and penning down this review. ••• I picked this up thinking it would be another interesting philosophical read, but I was partially wrong. ••• Random subterranean of mosaic is a compilation of authors journey and experiences. Each story makes us realise and appreciate the absurdity of life. ••• A reader can either read them in one go or as per his/her own choice. Each chapter takes you to a new city, reminds you of little things which should matter to a normal being but it no longer does. To break away with the monotony, author has tried to cover all the known genres into this one book which made it difficult for a person like me to concentrate on one theme. ••• Overall, a short lucid, slow paced one time read. Do try this out if you love exploring modern fiction. ••• Rating: 3 🌟
At one or another point of our lives, all of us might have happened to write, maybe on bits of papers or maybe on a personal diary because it's not always easy to explain why you feel what you feel. And, it's easier to write & discuss with your own inner voice. This book is one such book that made me feel as if I'm reading someone's personal diary. Ranging from personal experiences to broader issues that surround & consume us & our country, this book has it all in the form of well-written anecdotes. Be it about travel, about ordinary lives of people, the realities that we fear to confront - I admired the writing style of author & enjoyed it quite a lot. Jumping from one topic to another yet maintaining the flow is one difficult task but the author has managed to do so. I'd like to add that this book isn't about a particular theme or in a particular order & so you never know what the next page may bring which makes it both exciting & a bit boring. Other than this, I liked the narration which depicts the author's hold on words & his strength in terms of observing things. All in all, a good read.
As the title suggests the author has penned his random thoughts in this book. Although the work in intimate and engrossing it doesn't remain the same throughout. The chapters aren't arranged in a theme they are as I mentioned earlier random. The author goes from lazying around and getting fat in a Sikkhim resort to herpes in a jiffy. Initially it felt absurd, and weird because everything was haphazard, no particular orientation. Somewhere the author is writing about his visit to Kashmir or Kangra or Tawang or Jaipur and telling how he reached there, what to eat once there, what to do there. And somewhere out of the blue is drawing character sketches of people some fictious some known. Somewhere the author is writing letters to his beloved, his son, his daughter, his father and somewhere writing poems about things in life. Somewhere he is talking about Marxism and Capitalism, somewhere is talking about Gandhi. But as the book comes to an end, I asked why was it bothering? Is our own that life that smooth, isn't our life also just random?!
I love how every chapter ends with a question or a thought that left me contemplating.
Life is a beautiful jigsaw puzzle of thoughts, beliefs, opinions, emotions, etc... and true to its title, this book is a beautiful mosaic of author's thoughts, opinions, beliefs and emotions. Sometimes in the form of poetries, sometimes short proses, sometimes ramblings; but strangely each and every piece, despite being irregular and sharp, gets placed perfectly in their positions.
But the thing that touched me most, is the lingering questions that I kept on asking myself while reading this book. All those unconventional questions which we ignore, which we don't want to answer will come up and force you to ask yourself those questions.
Cleverly written, intriguing and well narrated... this book is worth spending your time on because this is a book for all. No matter if you are a fiction lover or non-ficion lover, poetry lover or prose lover; you'll fall in love with this book.
