I always enjoy Zig Ziglar narrating his own works with his distinct diction and drawl. The first disc was motivational and on point. Zig speaks to how each person sets their own reality through what is present in their mind. Surround and associate yourself with positivity and success to realize your own success.

The second disc talks about reaching your goals and while it fit with the overall theme, I didn’t find that it did so seamlessly. Disc one was high energy, motivational Zig, and disc two was helpful, educational Zig. My focus and drive shifted from high gear to a lower speed. I wish the tempo had been maintained, or that I had taken a lengthy break between the two discs to reflect and plan for my own improvement, then I would have been better prepared for the shift in energy.

My key takeaways and a brief summary of Zig’s teachings from this abridged audiobook:
Success comes from within. You must improve the image you have of yourself in order to achieve your goals. Desire to build a healthy self-image and expect to see improvement. Be better and better each day and in every way. We all have it within us to be more and do more.

Achieving one’s goals starts with a strong foundation and a healthy self-image. Your goal must be specific and your own, can be measured against a benchmark, and employs both big and small, short-term and long-term goals. Be committed to reaching your goal and believe that you can do it and you will reap the rewards. Attitude is everything in the quest for success.

"Born to Win" is basically an updated combination of much of Zig Ziglar's previously published (though groundbreaking) material. The book guides the reader through his well-known "plan, prepare and expect" strategy. Much of the material in this book is already contained in "See You at the Top" and the "Born to Win" audio seminar, so there isn't a ton of new material. The book is an excellent introduction for individuals new to Ziglar's world of self-improvement and it provides a great summary of Ziglar's philosophies. The chapter entitled "Don't Worry About the Results" will really change your perspective. Another neat feature is that each chapter has a QR code at the beginning. If you scan these with your phone will be be taken to some great bonus materials. Filled with life changing processes and information "Born to Win" definitely should be read by those needing a dose of hope and motivation. Also works as a great refresher for those that are already Ziglar zealots.

This was a compilation of motivational lectures by Zig Ziglar that was worth every penny. It is extremely inspirational in every aspect of life. He covers self esteem, becoming an optimist, how to have great marital relations, how to have great relationships with others, how to be a good parent, how to set and achieve goals, and how to help others achieve goals, and I'm sure so much more that I have unintentionally left out. It is about 19 hours, maybe a little more, and will absolutely change your life for the better. I will definitely be listening to this time and time again. I can tell I have already made some serious changes that have resulted in positive steps forward. I recommend this to everyone I know. You will not be disappointed!

What I got from it:

1. There is a story of a bamboo tree that was being watered for 5 years, but only in the last month did it grow tall. The question is did the tree grow in 5 years or 1 month? The answer is that all the water it received during those initial years helped its eventual massive growth. Sometimes progress isn't seen until later on.

2. 85% of what makes you excel is your mindset.

3. You have everything you need. Often we think that if i was taller or smarter or had more money then I could do it. However, if you were all those things you wouldn't be any happier and you would still come up with excuses. You can do everything you want with what you've got.

4. We act based on how we see ourselves. If we see ourselves as someone who is not liked, we will act in an unlikeable way. If we see ourselves as outgoing and bubbly, we will spring up conversations and speak boldly.

5. No one can make you feel inferior without your permission.

6. Goal Setting keys
a) identify a clear goal
b) list obstacles that will likely come up along trying to reach it
c) identify what knowledge is needed to achieve goal
d) clarify which people/organizations/groups will I need to work with to get there
e) come up with a game plan of how to get there
f) determine what's in it for me, why do I want this?

6.5) It's important to have long range goals. If you have long range goals then small day to day obstacles/missteps can be viewed just as a bump in the road.

7) When in a position of authority, your expectations of others influences how they will perform. Ziglar describes a teacher who believed she was teaching a class of gifted/high IQ students, each with IQ ranges from 150-170. At the end of the year, her class performed the best among all the others. The teacher was praised for her work, but she noted that with such a high IQ class it was easy. The principle later told her that the numbers assigned to each kid wasn't their IQ it was their locker numbers.

8) When giving criticism, criticize only the performance but always praise the performer.

9) Don't talk bad about yourself. Your brain is literally worth more than 100 million dollars. To say 1 word we need to perfectly coordinate 75 muscles.

10) Make a list of all your achievements and you're positive qualities. When facing a challenge or harsh criticisms remember these lists.

A fantastic book that is the perfect compliment to "See You at the Top". Zig is writing after a lifetime of success. He is now in his 80's as he opens the book and shares the cream of the crop in regards to his ideas. I've used Zig's goal-setting process to achieve many things in my life, including career goals, educational goals (currently completing a Ph.D.), and managing my life's "Wheel" (seen in the book).

In a sea of books on personal growth, Zig's are the best. Standing with men like Jim Rohn and Earl Nightengale, Zig's book incorporates the spiritual as well. His son, Tom, writes the final chapter of this book and unashamedly shares the gospel and points to it as a reason for his Dad's success.

The goal setting process I've mentioned is here. It's amazingly simple but hard to implement because you have to WORK to achieve them. But it WORKS.

I'll read this again and again.

I've never read any Zig Ziglar books, but I decided to give this one a read since its recommended by Dave Ramsey and I do everything he says.

It's a short read that will take you through three parts of success: planning, preparing, expecting. It's kind of what you'd expect from a motivational book...you're awesome, you can do anything you want, help others, etc.

There's quite a bit of spiritual talk which, in hindsight, I should of expected, but didn't.

Overall I enjoy listening to successful old timers talk about how they live their lives. It's not a bad starting point to how to live yours.

This is truly one of Zig's best! Powerful, concise and to the point. Prepare to Win, Plan to Win and Expect to Win! Zig walks you through each stage and how to put the actions in motion to take you where you want to go in Life, personal and professional. I found it refreshing and motivattional and I am already putting the plans he shares into practice. Great advice and tools in the back to help.

I was really surprised at how good this was. I put this right up on my foundational personal development books. I have never read a book that is so simply written but so comprehensive in personal development. It really is a fantastic little book and one I would recommend anyone keep on their bookshelf.

Although the concepts in this book are great and I have no doubt that Zig Ziglar is a great motivational speaker, his ideas are not for me. After several references about God and how he is the one that truly makes you successful, I couldn't listen to this audio book any longer. It will be on my "did not finish" shelf.

The recipe for winning is simple: if you have a plan and prepare to win, you can expect to win. The path follows a simple roadmap: 1. vision of success and a strong desire to turn that vision into reality. 2. set clear goals and gather the knowledge and skills

To strengthen the competence to success: nourish your mind, body, spirit, and mindset.

This is the first Zig Ziglar book I’ve read. Apparently this one is sort of a summary of the best of all his other previous books. There are a lot of good ideas in this book. I made notes as I read of things I really liked.

-It’s important to be learning always! Use your driving time to listen to books, podcasts, etc. “Automobile University”
-Fear of new things is really the fear of the unknown. Practice makes us competent and then less afraid.
-We can learn through our own experience or through others’ experience by asking for advice. It takes courage to ask others for advice.
-You have to “mine” advice. Gold is valuable but you have to sift through and process all the bad to get the gold. Advice is the same.
-Ability can take you to the top but it takes character to keep you there.
-Do not surround yourself with people who are negative. They do not wish the best for you. Look for advice from people who celebrate the success of others
-“If you learn from defeat, you haven’t really lost.”
-Stop worrying! The truth is seldom as awful as imagined.
-You either live up or live down to your own expectations.

Short and sweet book. I really enjoyed how he wove spirituality and faith into his keys to success in life. I enjoyed this a lot more than the 48 laws of power which seems to encourage manipulation while this encouraged being a good person. He emphasized that character and integrity are the backbone that you fall on that lead you to success even after failures. And how you can expect to win if you prepare your life for it and set goals and prepare for those goals.

Some takeaways:
* Plan to win>prepare to win>expect to win
* long term success is built on trust
* helping other is foundational to success, as is purpose
*worrying is pointless, just prepare for what you can control
*faith in a greater being is instrumental to good character and the framework you use to make the right decisions

Zig Ziglar is a renowned personal development expert. This book includes some very good guidance for life planning and goal setting. Told in a folksy manner on audio by Andy Andrews, it took some time to get used to the cadence. Worksheets are available online through Ziglar's website. As do many of his predecessors, contemporaries and successors in this area of "life coaching," he discusses life balance and principles for living life well. Because I've read many books in this area and attended in person events, I did not really hear anything "new," but it was a good reminder of many concepts I have already heard.

*Goodreads Giveaway. This book was provided to me for free.*

The short and sweet: Mr. Ziglar reiterates the most popular self-help insights and suggestions. It's very possible he pioneered many of them in the first place... I haven't done my self-help historical research. I suppose another book telling me to "set goals" and "become a lifelong learner" can't hurt, and I liked how some of his ideas on how to start a better life were illustrated. I also found it nice to have little worksheets to put the lessons into practice. It's an excuse to take a minute and reflect on one's life goals and current situation.

P.S. Born to Win may be easier to digest if you also happen to be Christian; it's a common theme throughout the book.

Born to Win was a surprisingly good book. I say it was a surprise because the book is filled with self-improvement platitudes. It's nothing you haven't heard before but there is something about Zig Ziglar's delivery that makes it better than most of the success books you read. He does a good job framing his lessons and he curates the material so that it's very easily absorbed. He is a highly skilled public speaker and it shines through in the book. There is a reason he is considered one of the best in the genre and I can see why from this book. He has an evangelical style but it isn't off-putting. The book is short but it has good substance.

Born to win has some exercises that you can download outside the book and I did and found them to be quite valuable. They were short worksheets that gave you a good amount of insight into your life and self. I recommend doing them if you read the book. The worksheet for business is surprisingly comprehensive and I think it could help anyone who owns a business or runs one.

The book is short. It has good content. It has good exercises. It's probably worth the time it takes to read if you are into the genre. Won't be a lightning strike of a book but nonetheless good.

Well written and informative, this book is absolutely excellent. I love the materials for this book. This is the book you're looking for

And I have extracted from the book some paragraphs that I like best in order to introduce this good book to the readers. You can read these interesting quotes prior to making a decision to read the whole book....!

"Do any of the symptoms on this list sound familiar to you?"

"Six reasons to set goals"

Thanks and Wish you and your family health and success.

excellent resource! zig ziglar is a treasure! I can't believe this is my first exposure to him but it is nonetheless. After I became a believer I invested in his How To Stay Motivated series as well.

I like Zig's humor, sincerity, and wisdom. He's a great speaker and entertainer! And his philosophies are truly beneficial:

you can get anything you want in life, if you'll just help enough other people get what they want.

you are where you are and what you are because of what you've put into your mind, and you can change who you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind.

Choosing the input of your mind is choosing the output!

There was a great analogy about the foundation of a building, and I don't think Zig meant it this way, but this is the way I took it (because of my own experiences!) - the deeper the foundation is built, the higher the building can go. If you've experienced a lot of pain in your life, the more pain you've experience, the higher you can go!

Success is built upon a foundation of positive principles and values like honesty, character, integrity, motivation, and enthusiasm, among others.

performance never exceeds self image, either our own or another's. also, peformance is tied to expectation, both for ourselves and for others.

there is no good or bad memory, only a trained or an untrained memory. this could probably also be applied to people in general!

his relationships segements were worth the price of the program alone. 2 HUGE insights for me were:
1- look for the good in people and acknowledge it, praise it
2- help people get what they want

if anyone has a networking spreadsheet (or app), or if anyone is a journaler, take some time to determine, "what's good about [person]?" or "what do I like about [person]?"

also, noting what they want will help you help them get it. obvious, but the palest ink is stronger than the sharpest mind!

Andrew Carnegie said, when asked about the 42 millionaires on his staff, "They weren't millionaires when I hired them." And when asked how they became millonaires, he said, "I develop men like you mine for gold. There may be tons of dirt, and earth, and rock in the way, but I'm looking for the gold."

!!! that one = <3

Zig recommends everyone write a book, "What I would tell anyone on how to get the most out of life."

instead of "paying the price" to reach your goals, enjoy the benefits!

gotta have a sense of humor to get the most out of life!

concentrate, develop, and cultivate inspiring long range goals because they will pull you out of any difficult time

never in history has anyone erected a statue of a critic.

--

there were a ton more excellent stories and insights. I definitely recommend this one to anyone who wants more success in life!

Very fast book that has a lot of actionable steps to analyze one’s life and make way for a better one. From how to set goals to things to reflect to general knowledge/stories that aim to show you how to win, this book gets straight to the point. Zig talks about faith a lot, since that’s his thing, but it’s in a way that is personable to him. It makes me see his drive and purpose, which was very clear from the beginning- to teach us how to win life

The playing field of life is not level

Fleas won't jump any higher then a capped jar story
People who take risks are the people you will lose against
It's out of our souls that our attitude flows the depth of your spirit will determine the height of your success
Human beings will give their lives for intangible ideas and principles
Persistent consistency
The project gives me more pause then hope

Overall Opinion

What an amazing book! I loved listening to the audiobook and highly recommend it. It made a great impact on me and I would like to read it again. It is one of those books that leaves you with much to think about once it is done while simultaneously letting you know that there is much more to glean from a second pass. Anyone wanting to make a difference in their own life or the lives of others should definitely read this book.

My rating: 5/5 stars
(Explanation of my rating system. 1 star = I really didn’t like it. 2 stars = Meh. 3 stars = It was a good book. I liked it well enough. 4 stars = I really liked this book and would recommend reading it. 5 stars = I absolutely loved this book and you need to read it right now.)

The Cons

This was not so much a con for me as much as I could see it being a con for some others. That is, that a belief in God is a central message of this book, which claims that it is an integral part of our lives as humans and necessary in order to be a whole person. I know that not everyone believes in God, or even the Christian God described in this book. Still, I feel that you can read this book and take much from it regardless of your spiritual beliefs.

The Pros

This book rings for me with hope, encouragement, instruction, enthusiasm, inspiration, and power. If I plan to win, and prepare to win, I can then expect to win. It was very engaging and easy to understand without seeming flimsy or insubstantial.

Quotes from the book

“If you don’t plan your time, someone else will help you waste it.”

“Positive thinking won’t allow you to do anything, but it will allow you to do everything better than negative thinking will.”

“If you believe as I do that you were born to win, you’re going to have to find your fears and start facing them.”

“The depth of your spirit will determine the height of your success.”

“You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

I know this review will be colored by recent reviews. I was reading this when I heard that Zig Ziglar had passed away.

At the beginning he mentions this is his swan song, as he doubted his health would allow him to have the opportunity to write more.

Zig introduced me to personal development and motivation and has always been a great source of charm, wit, quotability mixed with good old fashioned down home wisdom.

This book is more or less a "best of" and someone looking for something new and radical will be disappointed, but if you have not read Zig before, or are in the mood for the latest (and sadly last) flavor, then you will find some of your favorite stories, analogies, acronyms from Zig updated and polished in a short but emminently readable volume.

We will miss you, and may your legacy live on in the recorded and written word, Zig. We know you are in a better place now.

Let me start by saying I am a 100% Zig Ziglar fan, so by definition, this review will be biased.

I’ve read much of Zig’s writing throughout my professional life, listened to him speak, both live and on tapes (yes, cassette tapes) and have both benefited and been entertained in the process.

Born to Win is, as Zig, who is 85, says in the opening to the book, perhaps his last book. It is a book that talks about the steps required to move towards your best possible future. In it, he (assisted wonderfully by his son Tom) proves that he believes one of his most famous lines, “man was designed for accomplishment, engineered for success, and endowed with the seeds of greatness.”
