Adam: Meeting an A-list movie star like Truman James wasn’t part of my life plan, but neither was temporarily living with my bully of a stepbrother. Being hit on by said celebrity definitely hadn’t been planned. Beating my social anxiety wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, and avoiding the stubborn actor was even harder, so when I was thrust into the spotlight, there was only one thing I could do… Run.
Truman: From the moment I set eyes on Adam Hendrix, I was enraptured. His sweet demeanor and pretty-boy looks captured my heart from the start, and I refused to let Adam get away. When the paparazzi began to swarm, I did the only thing I could to protect Adam… I whisked him away to a place no one could get to him. I let my guard down and showed Adam the real me. The one only a few people in the world know. But will it be enough to make him stay? Will I be enough to make him happy?
This is a m/m contemporary romance; alpha/nerd; low angst novel. Trigger warning for some bullying.

What a delightful story this was! It had everything in it. Two intriguing main characters, a couple of interesting secondary characters, whom I hope get their own story! It was entertaining af, great environments, a tiny bit of angst, a bit steamy and a lot of sweet uplifting moments. Characters who made progress in their personal growth. It was a complete picture with a great plot and a good development. I think I can say there isn’t a thing I didn’t like or would change.
It’s about Truman, a movie star, used to get his way and Adam a shy, introvert writer, living temporarily with his stepbrother, who is a big bully. When Adam meets Truman for the first time Truman behaves badly. Adam despised his attitude, is angry and runs off to the other side of the building straight toward home. Truman is intrigued and wants to know everything about the man who stood him up. He has his people to find him. When the paparazzi hear of Adam, they put cameras and mics in his face. Truman feels awful, together they have to disappear for a month, to give them some peace.
We get to know them in a way nobody knows them and that is just precious. Two beautiful, vulnerable men with their own story. Two men who, with all the baggage, are pure, delightful and full of love and passion. It’s not only about them, but there is also a whole intense and intriguing journey! A smoothly written story, the whole picture made sense. Absolutely worth read!!
The blurb sounded very interesting so I looked forward to starting this book. Unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. Truman was obnoxious in his haughty conceit and demeanor and by 30% I was ready to DNF. But—and it’s a big but—I wanted to give this new author a chance to show me her work so I went on and, although Truman never became likeable (IMO), he wasn’t quite as bad once I got to know him. An Oscar-winning actor, former model, and highly sought after bachelor, it’s no wonder Truman thinks he’s hot stuff, so it intrigues him when one of the young men he meets at the “after-Oscar” party isn’t all that impressed.
Yay for Adam. Smart man. And one of the only smart moves he makes in this story. Twenty-seven-year-old Adam suffers from social anxiety and is an introvert. He’s a writer of litRPG books and happens to currently be living with a (mean) stepbrother while his apartment is cleared of mold. Unfortunately, Adam comes across as childish and immature and there’s no way on God’s green earth I can see these two enjoying a date together or time hanging around the house, as they did in the book. It was like watching a shark and his little minnow-sized fish as the shark told the fish how compatible they were and the minnow alternated between nodding his head yes and then swimming away.
In addition, Adam’s character and actions in some situations was OTT fem and teen-girlish. I don’t think the author deliberately intended him to come across that way, since his fem side was never mentioned as such, but I was very put off by his reactions in certain situations since they reminded me of my daughter when she was in her late teens. And, most certainly, they were not the reactions of a twenty-seven-year-old adult man.
The plot consisted mostly of Truman trying to win Adam’s interest and then Truman whisking Adam away once their relationship becomes known in the media so that he can protect Adam, and as a side benefit, get to know him better, and vice versa. They fly to Ireland and boat out to Truman’s private island where they do indeed get to know one another better and the virginal, shy Adam eventually gives Truman what he wants. Because—here on the island is where Truman’s true self shows, and the real, non-actor comes out. This reader wasn’t really impressed. To me, the shark got his minnow and became sold on wanting more and more minnow. In any event, the threat eventually disappears, Adam loves Truman’s home, his extended family in town, and—surprise—Adam loves Truman and Truman loves Adam. All is HEA in their world.
Sadly, this is not a story I can recommend. Of note: the cover features a bearded handsome man in a white T-shirt with a look of arrogance on his face—one eyebrow raised and an “I am the greatest” look about him. Sums up my opinion of him well, and if I’d seen the cover first, I may not have read the book.

Let me see. I really, really, really enjoyed this book. It was a fabulous mix of oh my gawd, did he go there? To, how the hell did this author, whose writing style truly impressed me, think of all the twists and turns and make it happen?
So, let's talk. Adam I loved. Adam is me. Socially awkward, introverted and anxiety ridden. Ok, well, I am a bit better than Adam, LOL, sorry. But his role in this book proved to be a staying factor for Truman, AKA, Tru, the very public and demanding Academy award winning actor.
As for Tru, I hated him at first. He was brash and arrogant and didn't know the word no. But as the book evolved, we saw a change for the better. I enjoyed his growth (Adam's too) and gave several nods on his willingness to help Adam as best as he could, making Adam his first and only priority.
Highly impressive and willingly recommended. I hope there's more from the author in this universe quite soon because I need it like tomorrow! And more because Riley and Daniel, and Brian and Jay need their stories told.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author through LesCourt.
I hate the main character, it's really hard to get past that, I'm not seeing any signs of redemption to come. Truman is arrogant, vain, horrible to everyone. Adam on the other hand is young, weak, anxious, introvert. In fact felt like a bit of a lecture on anxiety and what an introvert is, didn't read natural. The step-brother situation is also odd and didn't make sense to me.
The writing has a light chatty tone and is readable, but I don't want these characters together. The book is the beach from Jaws and I was yelling to Adam 'Stay out of the water'!
The arrogant cover image encapsulates Truman rather well. DNF 24%
This was a contemporary "famous movie star" MM with a HEA. It's quite a bit different from the first title I've read by this author. That was a PNR with suspense and it held me firmly in its grip, it was exciting. This time the author had created a different hold on a reader, the book being a non-suspense contemporary. A good hold nonetheless, just not so intense. A more relaxed note on this one. The writing is pleasant.
The main couple are Adam, a writer and Truman, a famous movie star who meet at a party and fires are lit. Truman first acts like a somewhat sleazy character with his presumptions that he's only to snap his fingers to get what he wants. When it turns out to be untrue he becomes intrigued which leads the couple together after a bit if hunting. They end up taking cover from publicity to find themselves becoming enamoured of each other.
There are some unsavoury family members and other unpleasant side characters making short appearances but all still manages to turn out into a HEA. Some of those aspects felt a little underdeveloped, rushed and that left those a bit useless in the whole. It was like they were shortly paraded through.
There's very little angst displayed really despite what it could have been especially given what was told of Adam. That's not realistic which bothered a bit as well as the easiness with which the Nasty Characters were "overcome". A bit too easy? Feels like shortcuts. In my opinion could've used upping or prolonging that in some case a bit to flesh this out more, maybe leaving something out altogether and delving more into something else but in general nicely done. Writing easy, flowing, easy to read, no too many side characters at a time and easy to keep up with. No backtracking needed.
I liked it but it doesn't feel as strong as the PNR title which stood plotwise stronger for me. Might be a matter of taste as I love PNR. Anyway, I liked it even with what I saw as its possible mild shortcomings. It's the whole that matters. Despite not being perfect it had a wind in the sails that blew the romance story forward. I'll look forward to more by them.
I liked it more as I was reading than while reviewing. I meant to give 5 but as I reviewed I started to find flaws and there were more objectively. It's just it felt so good while reading. It was better, more, than the sum of its parts. And THAT is well done actually. Because everything has weaknesses and faults :)

Hot shot Truman James is not used to hearing the word no. And then his huge ego takes a blow...delivered by Adam. Sweet, unassuming Adam, who doesn't want anything to do with the arrogant man disturbing his life.
Aww! Poor Truman! His confusion is hilarious. Rebuffed at every turn by Adam, which of course only increases his fascination...and persistence. Because after getting to know a bit more about Adam,Truman just wants to make him smile and keep him happy.
Their story is fun and charming. It's a sweet romance between two men that have difficulties with trusting and allowing themselves to depend on others. And it was amazing to watch Truman and Adam become each other's 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮.
I really enjoyed this. I was expecting a little more angst and drama, but I was pleasantly surprised that the relationship kept building without a ridiculous, over the top story line. Truman is a cocky actor who is used to getting whatever he wants. Adam hates being in the spotlight and wants nothing to do with Truman. Truman starts off finding Adam attractive and gets annoyed that he doesn’t want him, but it turns into Truman enjoying getting to know Adam. Their relationship was adorable. I loved watching them fall in love. I’m really looking forward to more from this author and this series.

New to me author. This is a mm contemporary romance. Main characters are Truman a movie star and Adam a writer with social anxiety. Set in the USA and Ireland. An enjoyable read. I’ll read more from this author.
The beginning almost turned me off completely. I get arrogant characters who need a good love to give them perspective, but certain things that happened almost pushed it too far for me. Truman started off as more despicable than unlikable and I was really, really worried he wouldn't redeem himself. Turned out I worried a little too hard. He ended up as one of the best men and I'm so glad I stuck it out.
Adam had mental health issues and I loved that the way it was dealt with was real. That there's no real cure and that he found his own coping methods. While the actual follow-through with some of it was inconsistent, it was still a present thing in their lives that was handled realistically. As an individual I thought he had backbone when it counted and learned to love himself and see himself through Truman's eyes. He grew and deepened as a character and I liked that quite a lot.
There was a hint relatively early on about a possible conflict and it was never mentioned again until it surprised them all. Completely unnecessary. It really should have been nixed in favor of keeping the conflict between the person that sold them out and had been causing problems from the very beginning. The confrontation with that person at the end was ... mature, I guess, but felt completely underwhelming. Instead of thinking that a couple loose threads needed to be tied up, it would have been much more effecting to simplify and stick to only one.
The slower-to-act steamy aspect of their relationship was full of so much heart and understanding. It showed exactly how far Truman came from his infamous beginning. And seeing him in Ireland was fantastic. I loved how they grew and the way they weren't chosen as the vehicle for tearing them apart before a reconciliation. Instead, we get a more united front dealing with those things that sought to bring them down and pull them away from one another. Their relationship and how it grew, deepened, that was what really sold me on the story.
I have such high hopes for the rest of the series. The small asides to introduce the next two couples we'll see more of was slightly distracting and I mostly wish they'd been saved for their own books, no matter the overlapping timelines we'd get later, but they weren't huge or so overt that I disliked them. The characters were present enough to draw my interest without really pulling the attention from First Priority's MC's. I'm really hoping the rest of the series follows the same level of depth and commitment that Adam and Truman showed here. With a start to the series that was utterly enjoyable, I've set the bar pretty high and can't wait to see how the rest plays out.
I really, really enjoyed this book by Este Holland. I have read her before, and this book continues the pattern of my being entranced by her storytelling. From the very start I was taken in, though at first, I thought “no way is this going to work.” I thought I was going to have a DNF on my hands as one of the MCs is such a colossal jerk from the opening lines. That continues through the first few pages and all I could think was “there is no way I can continue reading about this guy and feel anything for him.” It’s one of my things…I have to like the MCs in order to be able to root for them and I have to want to root for them or I can’t continue reading the book.
Have no fear, I was quickly disabused of my beliefs that it wouldn’t happen for me. Truman is a movie star, who at the start of the book is at his after party having just won an Oscar and believing the world should bow down at his feet. After being a complete jerk to a waiter he picks up to get him off quickly he runs into our other MC, Adam, who is being treated like dirt by his stepbrother. Truman is enamored of Adam’s look and gives him a regal command to meet him in the bathroom. Adam ignores his and runs the other way. Truman can’t believe he’s been stood up and goes looking for him. When he gets Chad (the stepbrother) to find Adam again he drags him off to the bar and once again commands that Adam will be going home with him. Adam says that he will not be doing that and leaves him at the bar. The one good thing to come out of the encounter is Adam meeting the bartender, Jay, who he forms a friendship with. Truman, of the over inflated ego, cannot believe this has happened and puts the wheels in motion to find Adam again. Eventually they connect and of course, this being a romance, Beauty tames the Beast.
There are some interesting elements to the story. Both men have baggage that shapes the people they are now. Adam in an introvert with social anxiety (which the author does a good job explaining and differentiating) and we really get to know the real Truman when we see the allowances he makes for this and the understanding way he treats Adam. There are some interesting secondary characters that I am hoping are going to be the subject of future books.
I was engaged the entire book and read it all in one night. I got the tug in my heart, the pit in my stomach and the blood in my eye at various points in the book. When I want to aww out loud, tear up or throat punch someone I know it’s been a good read. Strongly recommend.
*I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my objective review *
When Adam first meets world class A list actor Truman, it's not exactly love at first sight. No, it's more of a I dislike you and your huge ego (but also think you're gorgeous) kind of thing. But Truman's determined to claim the first man to tell him no, and Adam's social anxieties will just have to deal with the determined man's interest.
I gotta say, I loved this story, especially because of Adam. He's so sweet and I love how he actually turned Truman down the very first time he met him. That took Truman down a peg or two, so it was that much sweeter when Truman's character grew over the course of this story. Although I had not read anything by this author before reading First Priority, I am definitely looking forward to more from her now!
The characters in First Priority are well developed and likeable. Truman started out as a stereoypical, arrogant and pompous actor, but as the story progressed, it was obvious that this was just another part he played.
I loved that Adam didn't fawn all over Truman and didn't care who he was. Adam was just himself - a shy guy, lacking in self esteem, due to his past, who just wanted to be left be and to get on with his life.
Ms Holland's work is not new to me, and I love both her creativity and ability to charm her audience. This story is put together in a well written package, that I was unable to put down tiI I was finished
Truman and Adam are perfect for one another. They compliment one another beautifully. Their character development in this book is perfect. Truman grows as an individual, and also reveals secrets which allow Adam's self esteem grow. Highly recommended.
I will definitely be on the lookout for more of this lady's work.
Truman James, Oscar winner, gorgeous, huge ego. At his Oscar party he orders a cute man to meet him in the bathroom. He’s surprised that the man runs the other way. With some work he finds the man and begins his plan to win him over.
Adam an introvert, insecure, and uncomfortable in his own skin. He can’t believe Truman is interested in him. After he gives in and goes out with him he discovers the public Truman is very different than the private one. Truman wants to make Adam his top priority. When they are discovered, they run away together, only wanting time alone.
I thought with the subject matter this book might be a little angsty. Didn’t seem like much at all to me. The author took what could of been an over the top actor and turned him into someone truly worthy of Adam. Adam was an extremely sweet man, very easy to like. The whole story was sweet, I liked it.
Este Holland's book brought light to some medical conditions that people tend to struggle with silently. I would hope that those who read the book have a better understanding of how someone with anxiety, body image issues, etc may struggle on a daily basis, yet still may appear to be fine on the outside to others. Not only does he touch base with those issues but also includes gay and bisexual lifestyles and how sometimes it takes people longer to come out/be accepting of others' choices.
I loved the main character in this book, Adam. He was strong yet soft. He pushed Truman out of his comfort zone and also made him realize that just because you are famous doesnt mean that everyone should throw themselves at your beck and call. Reminded him how to enjoy the simple things in life and accept love.
While this isn't exactly enemies-to-lovers, since Adam didn't previously know Truman and thus couldn't hate him, they did have conflict from the beginning. The way their relationship started makes this story interesting from the outset. The way the relationship progresses and how both characters grow and change makes the story interesting to the end. I appreciated the character growth and world-building, as well as the chemistry that developed between the two MCs. This was my first Este Holland book but it won't be my last. *I received an arc of this book.*
First Priority by Este Holland is the first book in the Priorities series and is a contemporary m/m romance between a playboy actor and an adorable nerd. Low on drama/angst, high on steamy fun. Adam and Truman are good characters and I really enjoyed reading of their journey finding love together.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This was a great series starter. Adam and Truman were likable, engaging characters. I really enjoyed the storyline and I liked how Adam didn't just fall at Truman's feet. All in all a very enjoyable read, I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.
Este Holland’s new release, First Priority, pairs up a pompous actor with an introverted novelist/gamer and creates a sweet romance. Adam suffers from anxiety—panic inducing, crushing anxiety for which he is currently undergoing therapy. He would have never willingly been bunking in with his stepbrother, Chad, except for the fact that his own apartment is undergoing cleaning for a mold infestation. Chad has always bullied Adam—both physically and mentally–but their shared father has always believed Chad over Adam. So when his dad suggests Adam stay with Chad, Adam couldn’t say no. Hence, he finds himself being dragged around to parties where big time actors are so Chad can find his fifteen minutes of fame. Then, Truman James imperiously tries to seduce him and Adam is just done—escaping into the night with the help of the bartender who will become a friend, something Adam has few of at the moment.
3.5 stars. I was really enjoying the first 60% or so of this book. An arrogant, full of himself Oscar winning actor is stunned when he is turned down by a "commoner" for a quickie after the actor had just won Best Actor and is out celebrating. The actor is determined to locate this "commoner" and see what gives.
What we then have is an endearing story of a young man with a bad case of social anxiety standing up to a larger than life movie star and in doing so they both learn a great deal more about themselves. This part was great.
Unfortunately toward the end a lot of other characters (who had been very minor parts of the first part of the story) started to populate the scene and it pretty much ruined the charming aspect of the story. I don't know if these people are going to be subjects in future books or why the author chose to start focusing on them but it really hurt a very good book.
Oh my! This was a truly lovely story, I loved both Truman, even at the start in all his arrogance- you could see there was more to him, and sweet gentle Adam, with all his shyness and anxiety. It was all delightful to read, and the bonus is there are two other couples with two other stories that are obviously to come, can’t wait. This had a lot of steamy sex, after a while anyway, Adam took his time, and was also low angst, just sweet and lovely.
Truman is an arrogant and obnoxious movie star. He's becoming jaded and bored with life. He's at an Academy awards after party and spies a gorgeous man who's working at the party being reprimanded in a an unusually cruel manner. He tries to ply him with liquor and Adam strikes up a conversation with the bartender, Jay in an attempt to deflect attention and they begin a friendship. He instantly turns on the charm and attempts a hookup with Adam who promptly turns him down and flees the party, leaving him dumbfounded because he's never been rejected before. Now he's making it his mission to find and get to know Adam. He puts on a full court press for Adam's attention, going so far as to publicly name him and out him as a romantic interest. Now the press is off and running with the story and that's a huge issue for Adam. He has a debilitating social anxiety disorder and has been bullied his whole life, especially by his stepbrother Chad who's been the worst protagonist and to top it all off, he's had to move in with him temporarily because of an issue in his apartment. Truman's persistence finally pays off and they begin a friendship because Adam isn't too sure about dating a celebrity and all it entails, while Truman has never had a relationship before but suddenly finds himself wondering what that would be like with Adam. When they get outed to the press, Truman wisks Adam away to his private island in Ireland. It's here, surrounded by his family and roots that Truman begins to open up and become vulnerable with Adam, showing his true self. Truman has trust issues because of celebrity status causing issues with people using him as well as his parents not actually showing him a loving relationship between them growing up. Adam has trust issues because in the past he's pushed himself to his limits for the sake of maintaining a relationship only to be told that he's too much to handle. As they become closer and are falling in love, Truman tells Adam he's his top priority. There was also a hind of danger pertaining to Truman as an actor which leads to Adam being caught in the crossfire, not injured but just shaken up. The epilogue was a wonderful realistic slice of life moment, showing us that a real relationship takes hard work and dedication to work. There was also a wonderful cast of secondary characters whose stories I'm definitely looking forward to reading.
I was a little confused in some parts. There were two intermissions (one titled "Interlude" and the other, "Intermission") that I thought added nothing to the story. They were about side characters. The first one was about Riley and Daniel, and other about Brian and Jay. While I liked these characters, I felt like these intermissions were just thrown in to make the story longer. Also, there was no conclusion to these little side stories. What happened with them? Who's Ricardo? What happened with Jay after he got on the bus? These may be setting up future stories, but the story would have been fine and flowed smoothly without these intermissions.
Also, the relationship between Adam and Truman moved very quickly. They went on two dates and suddenly, they were spending a month together in Ireland. I understand why this happened, but Adam was quick to go along with it and for someone with social anxiety, this didn't fit with Adam's character (I have social anxiety, and I would never run off to a different country with someone I barely knew). Despite this, I did like the characters. It took me awhile to warm up to Truman. He came off as arrogant and snobby, but that's not who he really is.
In two parts, there was a mention of letters. The mention was brief, and was quickly brushed off. I think this should have been explored more. These letters were a crucial part to the story, and they were glossed over. They led to a conflict, but the conflict was so brief, that I felt like it was thrown in there just to add some angst. I feel like this could have been fleshed out more, which would have made this story better, in my opinion. A lot can be done using with a stalker, and there was only a quick little blurb and the problem was solved very quickly.
Overall, this wasn't a bad read, but there were parts of the story that just didn't make sense to have there, and other parts that could have been fleshed out more. There was just something missing in this story.
Adam is an introverted, nerdy, geeky writer who suffers from social anxiety and panic attacks. Being around people is difficult as he hates crowds, gets nervous around strangers and is not good at small talk. He lives with his stepbrother who has bullied him since childhood.
Truman is an A-list movie star with an alpha personality. He’s used to getting whatever, and whoever, he wants. He is celebrating his Oscar win when he meets Adam. It’s definitely not a meet cute as Adam refuses to have anything to do with him or his arrogance.
Circumstances mean they go to live on Truman’s island off the coast of Ireland for a month. It’s there that Adam learns who the real Truman is. Truman realises that he feels good with Adam as he’s like a breath of fresh air. No fawning or simpering over him, doesn’t care about other famous people or how much money Truman makes per movie.
This is a well written book with a depth of complexity to the characters that I wasn’t expecting. Adam’s anxiety is handled with great care and attention to detail. There’s also some interesting side characters that’ll hopefully get their stories told. Mix in some humour, some drama and some horrible family members and it makes for a great read
An arrogant movie star and a shy, anxiety-filled writer!
Truman is used to getting his way, in everything. Well, except maybe when it comes to Adam, who doesn’t care who he is at all! He is intrigued by the man.
Adam has always had issues being in a crowd or even a small group of people, he becomes anxious! So when Truman sets his eyes on him, he doesn’t understand why, he is nobody! Is it because he doesn’t want Truman’s attention at all?
Will Truman’s persistence ultimately lower Adam’s anxiety enough for them to get to know each other?
This tale is sweet and endearing, but it also comes with some issues we are constantly dealing with in real life like anxiety, bullying, peer pressure (and its results), doubting oneself, low self-esteem. Ms. Holland was able to incorporate all these in this story, keeping in mind that these are real issues people have to face in their lives. I love the parts where there was an interlude and an intermission, it is new and refreshing! The fact that what the supporting characters think is awesome! I love it!
I say, “don’t judge a book by its cover,” because learning and getting to know each other definitely prove a lot of wrong assumptions between Truman and Adam. A sweet and awesome read Ms. Holland, love it!
I enjoyed reading this extremely entertaining MM romance & it is a splendid start to a new series. I found the plot well-written & interesting with some good world building & descriptions. The characters are interesting with quite complex personalities & continue to develop throughout the story-line to become emotional strong individuals who love each other. There is good support from the secondary characters. There is: a arrogant playboy actor (Truman) is stunned when a insecure male graphic designer & writer (Adam) promptly turns his offer down, Adam’s bullying stepbrother (Chad), a bartender & caring friend (Jay), Adam’s best friend (Jeff), some twists, drama, intrigue, family issues, caring friends, attraction, frustration, obsession, manipulations paparazzi, anxiety, compromises, memories, confrontations, threats, danger, conflict, declaration, love, some steam & a wonderful, happy ending.
This was a fun, sweet read about two very different men who are absolutely perfect for each other! Adam and Truman couldn’t be more different, Adam deals with anxiety and avoids social situations, Truman is a famous actor who just won his first Oscar. These two find a special connection together though that has them fighting for each other and the love that is growing between them!
This was a fun book, no real angst, just some issues that they work through together. It’s more about how these two open up to each other and fall in love. I liked these characters, I especially liked seeing the real Truman and how much he cared for Adam and his well-being. Adam is such a sweetheart, and so much stronger than he gives himself credit for. I’m definitely curious to see what happens with some of the other characters we met in this book! If you’re in the mood for sweet and make-your-heart-happy this is definitely a good choice!
