The Boss and the Brat

Rate this book
Listen...it wasn't my fault...

I had no idea that the gorgeous, infuriatingly arrogant stranger was my new boss and CEO when I pushed him into the koi pond.

But had I known the mysterious billionaire was Cameron “The Panty King” Mitchell, I would’ve let the koi turn his bits into fish sticks.

Instead, I did the worst thing that a modest, career-oriented virgin could’ve done. I tumbled into that pond head-over-heels after him.

Apparently, I make terrible decisions with wet panties.

That’s why I’ve ensured the office remains a battleground and not a makeshift bedroom. Cameron thinks he can take over my father’s company because no one has ever told the titan of industry no.

Well, defying Cameron is much safer than desiring him.

So, if he wants coffee, he can pour it himself. If he needs a report—he can fetch the paper airplane from the roof.

But if he thinks he can take me for a lover?
I’ll become his greatest enemy.

I just have one question…
Do the two pink lines on the test always mean that I’m pregnant?

MacKenza Maxwell wants to save the family business (Maxwell Industries) but she doesn't have the skills or experience to do so. That's where Billionaire Cameron Mitchell comes in, he's a man that buys failing businesses and breathes new life into them, readying them to be sold and Maxwell Industries is no exception. The business (selling matronly undergarments) has been losing money for years as their customers age and die off. Soon, Mr. Maxwell realizes, it's over and time to retire. He wants to sell, and MacKenza wants to save the business. Cameron's been hand-picked by MacKenza's father to be the CEO and he has convinced Cameron to take MacKenza on as his assistant. This makes Cameron her instant enemy and the memory of how they met doesn't help the situation.

MacKenza loathes Cameron and the feeling is not so nearly mutual! She thwarts Cameron at every turn, every time. When Cameron tasks MacKenza with anything, she always finds a way to deliberately sabotage him, thus sabotaging the company. She's so caught up in saving the company that she doesn't realize by failing to see the bigger picture that there is more than just her legacy at stake. Cameron has his own baggage, he's a thrill-seeker that's no longer thrilled after the endorphin producing event has been marked off his thrill list.

This author really knows how to write romantic comedy scenes because the fashion show for the board members had me ROTFLMAO with (happy) tears streaming down my face. When it's time for this couple to own up to their shortcomings it will take a village to get them to see the light. Recommended: Read It!

Witty banter is plentiful in this book but It became tiresome and the actual romance vibe of the story was lost. “The Brat” really was actually quite annoying for no reason. She relentlessly rejects The Panty King despite feeling the opposite which leads to some strange love scenes. Not my cup of tea but Frost is still quite a talented writer I just wasn’t a big fan of this book.

Mackenza is less than impressed that the dream she had of running the family business not only isn’t going to happen but that the man her father hired to run the company is conceited and that is after their humorous but less than ideal first meeting.

Cameron has overcome his painful past and is a successful businessman and billionaire. When he and Mackenza find themselves at odds over the direction of the company let the battle begin!

Overall I liked this book. Cameron is the guy to take over the failing company. Mackenzie is the woman who wants to save it. They drive each other nuts but they also love each other. In the end they finally get their happy ending.

I love Sosie Frost's books in general. She writes entertaining characters with witty dialogue that I almost always absolutely adore. That said, I like "The Boss and the Brat" but it isn't one of my favorite books by her.

Cameron and Mackenza have chemistry plus the dialogue is pretty snappy. I just found Mackenza a bit too rigid yet childish at times. She's smart, she's creative, she's focused but her brattiness can be too much. I like feisty and strong heroines but I also like my heroines more mentally mature or at least less childish. Cameron is a good complement to her personality but at times I thought he was too blinded by love in putting up with her antics. I personally would have cussed her out several times regarding some of her behavior. I do like Cameron a lot and despite his struggles with figuring out what he wants even with all his money and his rakish history, he's mostly a good egg.

The actual story that brings the Cameron & Mackenza together is solid and I like that it's built around family history, both the positives and negatives. The love story is engaging even when it's frustrating, at least frustrating for me due to my impatience at times with Mackenza's character.

I do think folks should pick it up for themselves and see if like it cause the snappy dialogue and story are both enjoyable.

The heroine is insufferable and the worst part of the book. The premise of the book is really good just needed a better heroine.

The Boss and the Brat by Sosie Frost a silken five-star read. This was so much fun, I felt so much love for Mackenza the brat that she is, which surprised me as I don’t usually like the brattish behaviour, but somehow, she just warmed me to the core. The other thing that surprised me was the Panty King Cameron, he just made me want to shake him at times, and then others I wanted to snuggle him with a blanket and a hot chocolate and make it all okay for him. The chemistry is explosive and shows that it works both ways, you get the heat, but you also get the anger. This is funny and sweet and super-hot, do not miss this amazing read.

I have to say, I really wanted to enjoy this book more than I did. And while I really liked the story, thought it had so much potential, I just could not connect with the h, Mackenza. She was labeled as the Brat in this book, so I was ready for some irresponsible behavior, but she was just too unreasonable, too over the top, for me. She was irrational and irritating at times, and that made it almost impossible to connect with her on any level. There were several scenes in the book that were meant for comedy, but instead they were awkward and cringe worthy to me. She pulled out-right mean stunts on the H, and it was really hard to read some of them. The H, Cameron, however, he was fantastic. I feel like the author tried hard to portray him as a womanizing A-hole, but he just did not come off that way, at least for me. I actually connected easier with him, felt more for him, and I was rooting for him the entire book. And for that reason, I powered through the book to make sure Cameron had his happy ending.

Ugh. This is a time I really wish GR let us do half stars, because I waffled between 2 and 3 stars but like ...
well ok. I started out at 2 stars but moved it to 3 because I'm sure not just mood but impeachment/lack of conviction contributed to the overall 😒 feel.

but :X it taking over a week to read a book is ROUGH. However, considering usually if it takes me more than "a week" [or let's be honest, 3 days including breaks, a book is usually a DNF for me...] So the fact that I did finish it- and that it ends well, says something.

However, the issue is the rough, slow start. The whole Cameron “The Panty King” Mitchell thing was 🙄 and Mackenza Maxwell I mean ... :X so for a lot of it she's just ... dumb?
Her family's company makes "intimates" for women - elderly women? Sensible bras etc ... and she's O_o furious at Cameron for bringing in sexy lingerie. Like ... friend. What do you have against women feeling sexy?
And then all the sabotage stuff. It's childish and ridiculous, especially for someone trying to SAVE a company.

Like her messing with his coffee, and the printers and such - the small but ~petty stuff, the pranks - that was amusing. It's bratty, but obviously they're butting heads.
Her messing with the BOARD though and presentations - like. Look. I don't have a MBA but I know not to F with the people controlling the cash of a failing company I'm trying to save.

It's just nonsensical. I get the point was to be like "oh Mackenza is scared of change and stuck in the past" but she was head in the sand obtusely ignorant of reality stuck.
For Cameron... he falls for Mackenza quickly and I guess the point was "can't resolve things too quickly" - but like -THEY STILL HAD TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER, YEAH?!
So I couldn't understand why if he's a FREAKING BILLIONAIRE and soooooo much is made of how much money he has that he just throws around ....
why the fuck couldn't he just buy her goddamn company?!
...
Why?

So ... you know, I've talked myself back into 2 stars.

Because there are a hella lot of plot holes, and how annoying Mackenza is.

Sigh.

HOWEVER. If/once you get past that ...
I really did love their interactions together. She's attracted to him despite herself, he's smitten - although it takes him a long time to VERBALIZE it, he shows her in many ways.
And ... I don't think this is really a spoiler since it seems in many if not most Sosie Frost books the heroine and hero have an "oops" pregnancy ... Cameron is THRILLED to be a father.

And! I liked the conflict there! So Cameron is thrilled and totally on board ... but Mackenza has the legitimate fear this is just his newest "new shiny thing" and he'll get bored of it quickly.
That was realistic and tracked - especially with his MO.

I liked how things worked out ... I liked that Cameron was willing to protected the identity of Mr. R - not for Mr. R, or the company, but for Mackenza's sake.
[Wasn't ... quite sure what all with his mom other than as a vehicle for ... a lightbulb moment I guess?]

So it ends quite well and is realistic there.
But man does it take a LOT to get there.

Then there were a few cringeworthy typos.
The least of them was "ideal" instead of "idea." But then there was "muscles" ... which O_o they were eating as part of some seafood thing. So CLEARLY it should've been "mussels" - and then when Mackenza decides to tell Cameron she's in love with him - what's published is "I've in love with him." which was pretty distracting.

D+ for the good ending but ... not a higher grade because the various issues.

Kenza is the Brat that tamed the Panty King!

I had a tough time getting into this story at first. The author's trademark quirky writing style was a bit wordy, belaboring the points as if she couldn't decide which clever description worked best so she used them all. The meet-cute and ID reveal scenes spent too much time trying to keep the suspense hanging, almost to the point of being tedious. However, once Cameron and Mackenza finally have all the facts squared away, the story really takes off and more than made up for the slow start. It was engaging and absorbing, and I couldn't put it down.

Right from the start, Kenza tries Cameron's patience at every turn while seeing right through his arrogant attempt to establish his place at the company. She needles past his veneer to his hidden-for-a-reason true self, and despite his best efforts to keep everything superficial he just can't help but reveal all his secrets to her.

Cameron is a man who refuses to be defined by his humble beginnings, which itself was a story that nearly ripped my heart out. Regardless of the challenge, he was driven by a need to prove that he was the only one who could do it. His was a pride that covered an innate need to prove to himself how far he'd come.

Meanwhile, Kenza is trying desperately to hold on to her family's company because running it is the only goal she's ever had in life. There might be a few business concepts she needed to learn from Cameron, but she had a lot to teach him as well.

The most unique attribute of a Sosie Frost book is the witty wordplay and almost over-the-top situational humor. The coffee scene in his office is the hilarity I came for, and the fashion show that crashed the board meeting was absolute comedic brilliance. The humor was laced throughout, but never overshadowed the emotional interplay between the characters.

Both Cameron and Kenza try to keep their wildly out-of-control physical attraction from becoming something serious, leading to one of my all-time favorite book lines:

“If we’re going to lie to ourselves, we might as well do it all night.”

But when the "surprise" comes, Kenza is the only one who didn't see it coming from a mile away. Still, it's more than a plot twist as it forces them both to crack the walls around their hearts, even if just a little.

Once I got to the very satisfying HEA, I was all but cheering this couple from the rooftops. It's a wonderful story, well worth working through the initial verbosity. If you haven't read this author yet, this book is the perfect place to start. If you're familiar with her work, you won't want to miss this outstanding addition to her catalog. I highly recommend it for any fan of rom-coms. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Cameron Mitchell is an adventurous billionaire that gobbles up failing businesses and sells them at a profit. McKenza Maxwell is the daughter of an owner/CEO of Maxwell Intimates, a failing undergarments for the senior crowd business. From the first time they meet to their HEA, it is a constant struggle and fight.

I am a Sosie Frost fan; I own several of her books. I have re-read several of them over time. This novel was okay to me. There were no major sparks or moments for me. I wanted to love this book like I have loved other books she has written. However, the constant back and forth between Cameron and Mckenza became annoying early in the novel. I loved the sexy banter they had going during a few points in the novel, but the fighting over the coffee and who was in charge became repetitive and stale after a bit. They both seemed lost and unsure of what they wanted out of life. I could not connect with either of them. I really wanted this novel to end quickly. I don’t know if it was the stress and anxiety of self-distancing for about a month or just my mood was wrong, this novel did not appeal to me. Sosie’s writing is solid as usual. I did find a few proofreading mistakes, but otherwise the writing is good. Cameron and McKenza did not do it for me as they did for each other.

Boss vs Brat - it’s on! Let the best antagonist win
Sosie Frost just has an exciting and thrilling way of making enemies to lovers, hate to love so darn fun while making the impossibility of a lasting, meaningful and combustible relationship amazingly real. The Boss and The Brat is the latest well written book that does all that and more.
Despite their animosity, I was rooting for Makenza and Cameron to wade through all the angst, frustration and drama to get to what matters most. Their hearts. Beneath all their blustering, stubbornness and thriving on antagonizing each other, their hearts are telling them what really matters and Sosie Frost does them justice in the end. Truly another enticingly engaging read in true Sosie Frost fashion! An arrogant, annoying alpha matched by the sassy sweetheart who gives as much as she gets in all ways.
Overall an extremely enjoyable read that will keep you on your toes as this couple battle each other only to finally surrender to their hearts’ desires for a successful, loving and fulfilling HEA.

This story is about Cameron and MacKenza and their volatile relationship to save her family’s business. It takes place in the town of Ironfield, where many of her stories reside. I love that town and its quirky residents that I have gotten to know through Sosie’s stories. This is the first story that I had a hard time finishing. It is an enemies-to-lovers story, but both characters are selfish. She is so focused on saving the family business and not letting Cameron “win” that she doesn’t see the destruction she is doing. He is so set on finding his next “rush” in a bid to find what he doesn’t know he is looking for, that he can’t see what is right in front of him or how much money does not mean to the women he loves (Kenza and his mom). And their selfishness may be the story. I admit, I did cry a little when they realized all that they needed to realize to make a happy ending, but for me, it was a hard road of reading. Maybe because of this COVID-19 thing that is going on, I couldn’t handle the selfishness. A 2-1/2 star rating from me. Sorry, Sosie.

Not a Solid 3 Stars

This was a so so outing by Sosie Frost. I had a hard time seeing any connection between the main characters. And some of the scenes seemed to drag on. My the 60/70% I was skipping sentences just to get to the end. There is a HEA. McKenza seemed less brat and more like extremely selfish and spoiled child. She was so annoying I have no idea how Cameron found it endearing. I'm not quite sure why she felt so entitled to have the company. Because it was her father's? She hadn't worked in the office or lived in the city it was in for years. She was a designer and she loved design. I would have loved if that's where they butted heads instead of over his coffee and the dilapidated office. The writing was fair, if not simplistic. There were very little mistakes. I liked other books by this author so I would read her again. Little bummed this couldn't have been better.

When Mackenza and Cameron first meet, there are plenty of sparks – sparks of anger and irritation! She’s annoyed by his charisma and arrogance but also at her own attraction to him. His easy charm and flirtatious banter only fuels her ire. How will she react then, when she realizes he’s her new boss?

I enjoyed this well written romantic comedy. I loved Mackenza’s campaign to defy Cameron’s orders and to disrupt his transition into her family’s company. She was committed, unrelenting and at times quite underhanded. As sparring partners, these two were well matched with plenty of snarky comments and backtalk. As a couple, their chemistry was off the charts! Along with their steamy encounters, there’s also plenty of humour, drama, and angst along the very bumpy journey to their HEA.

A hilarious romp

Designer Mackenza wants nothing but to carry on the family legacy in the quality undergarment industry. What she doesn’t know is that the company is nearly bankrupt and her father has made a deal to sell it – to the man that she “accidentally” pushed into the koi pond at her father’s retirement party. Or that she’ll be working with him for the foreseeable future. But she’s not about to go quietly.

Billionaire Cameron moves from one success to another. Everything he touches seems to turn to gold. But he’s never satisfied. He’s pulled himself up from poverty and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep from going back to it. When he realizes who the beautiful woman he’s met at her father’s parry is, he’s determined to keep her near. Even if he has to drink flavored coffees and wipe coffee grounds out of his keyboard.

This is a billionaire romance.

This is the story of Cameron & Mackenza. Cameron is a billionaire in the fashion world. Mackenza works fpr her father's company, Maxwell Intimates, as a designer. They met at her father's retirement celebration. They didn't know who each other was at the time. They didn't get along at all. He was being introduced as the new CEO of Maxwell Intimates, as he and her father merged their companies. When they both found out who the other one was, they were shocked. Mackenza was to be his assistant, so she could learn the business and financial side of the company. They have a lot of sarcastic banter between them. Will they ever get along? Each searching for something they thought they'd never find, even though it was right under their noses. This is a great read. The story kept me interested from beginning to end.

I loved these two. Mackenza and Cameron were funny together. Their banter back and forth was perfect. Their interactions were great too. I'm guessing she was around 24/25? and at some points, I thought her to be a bit childish and throwing tantrums when things didn't go her way. I get that she wanted to save her father's company and legacy but did she really have to behave that why! (The boardroom)

I thought Cameron have the patience of a saint. I get why he couldn't settle in his life, growing up the way he did. And the loves he lost along the way, effected him more than he realised.

I liked that they both challenge each other to be better and do better. I think what Cameron said about her being afraid to step out into the world on her own were accurate. She wanted the safety that Maxwell Intimates provided.

But, there is only one thing that annoyed me more than anything and that was how many times she was called a brat. It was in way too many chapters in the beginning. I rolled my eyes quite a few times but other than that, I loved this book.

Such a GREAT story! When the author can make a reader as frustrated with the H as the h is in a story, the author has done an amazing job. But that works both ways as well. Cameron is this cocky, frustrating man, in both business and life. The way he can immediately push the buttons of Mackenza kept me smiling, shaking my head and needing to keep reading to see what she would do to handle him. So many moments that had me giggling. Mackenza is determined to continue with the family business. The story had me hooked, sharing the frustration and laughs with the characters and some great surprises and twists. This is a must read!

What a book, where do I even start.
I went from wanting to sleep with Cameron to wanting to slap him and back again.
Mackenza is one stubborn woman, the brat title was aptly given during parts of this book.
It had laughs, the first time they meet is so amusing I laughed out loud, and Kenza's fashion show was awesome. It had sadness, Cameron's youth was hard to hear and the possibility of Kenza losing the family company. It also had twists of mystery, who is Mr R. and why is Cameron so afraid to stop moving.
This book is well worth your time and money.
Standalone with no cliffhangers and a great epilogue.

If you love romantic comedies this is the book for you. I was hooked from the very beginning and hated to put it down because I needed to know what happened next. Mackenza afraid of losing her family's business hated Cameron before she even met him. Of course you knew their initial meeting would be memorable and the author didn't disappoint. Kenza's bratty antics kept me laughing from beginning to end, but also kept me cheering for this couple and hoping they would realize their feelings and end up together!

Kenza has been looking forward to taking over her father’s company since his announced retirement, but she had another thing coming Mr. Maxwell had it all planned out a new CEO to take his place and to Kenza’s dismay it wouldn’t be her sitting on that seat but it would be an infuriating, sexy, man and it’s none other than the Panty freaking King.

It was a hilarious read with all the back and fourth banter, Kenza’s behavior was really that of a bratty teenager not getting what she wants when she wants it, but Mitchell brought her attitude down a notch or two. I received an arc copy for an honest and voluntary review.

Mackenza is a very naive young woman with little to no business sense and very irritating. She wants to be the CEO of her family's failed business and can't see the wood for the trees. Cameron Mitchell can and has the ability to save Maxwell Intimates if only Mackenza would let him. Will Mackenza and her sabotaging ruin this deal and her opportunity to real love or will she wake up and smell the coffee in time?

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. A very Sosie-like book that is very entertaining due to the hilarious dialogues the two of them keep having. A nevertheless back and forth that made me laugh out not only once. They seem to hate each other but at the same time can't keep their hands off each other. Camden is that kind of guy Kenza despises but he still got her pregnant so she has to figure out what to do, despite ja every efforts trying to save the company, or rather her legacy.

I love Sosie’s story, but this one I just liked. I liked Cameron and saw everything he was doing to make Makenza happy, but Kenza’s bratiness was a bit too much. She argues all the time and acted like a spoiled child. Cameron did have flaws, but I didn’t want to smack him upside the head so much. Their banter and back and forth did have me laughing and their chemistry was explosively hot. It was a good storyline, I just think Kenza needed to be a little more flexible and not fight Cameron on every single little thing. I do like going back to Ironfield.

Oh man, this story was too good. I started the book, chapter 1, I thought crude, I'm not a fan of Makenza, Cameron seems good. Somewhere between chapters 3 and 4, I was like, hmm, I jumped the gun on Kenza. Halfway through the book, I was cracking up at some scenes. Towards the end, I was just as sad as Cameron and Kenza. It took me a second to get hooked in the story but I did get hooked. You won't be disappointed.

Cameron and Kenza are Sosie Frost’s latest dynamic duo! The banter between the two is sharp with plenty of one liners that will have you big smiling.

Cameron is the billionaire who buys ownership of Kenza’s family’s company. From the start, the two are at odds. But, it’s been said that there is a thin line between love and hate. Cameron and Kenza certainly prove this point :)

A fantastic book with some pure laugh out loud banter flying between the books main characters Mackenza and Cameron , he's her new boss but it's definitely a love to hate relationship and he nicknames her the brat , loved the engaging storyline that's well written and Mackenza and Cameron fit together perfectly and are great characters and get their HEA , LOVED IT

I thought this story was great to read. The chemistry between MacKenza and Cameron was challenging and steamy. I loved their interactions in the office. Reading as their banter back and forth developed from hatred to an attraction they could not deny. Both stubborn, I wondered if they could ever find happiness with each other. Add in the twist involving the business in the end, you have to read to see how this one turns out.
