Betrayed by the person they trusted the most, Vivianna and her friends have no choice but to flee Quelmir on Reeve’s airship.
With grief heavy on their shoulders, no allies, and no plan, they seek solace on the Baylan Isles, the only place they know Kallimene won’t follow. But on the Isles, they find more than safety — they find healing, friendship, and the courage to save Quelmir.
To defeat the traitor on the throne, all of them will be tested, Vivianna most of all. Will the gods grant her the power to help save the ones she loves, or will Quelmir fall into ruin?
Savanna Roberts is a YA author, freelance editor, wife, and proud mama of two sweet kitties.
She enjoys writing stories with complicated characters and hard situations, promising to never provide you with easy stories but ones full of hope.
She’s been writing seriously since she was ten years old, and she currently has nine books out and has written an article for Introvert, Dear, as well as collaborated on blog events with other writers.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, adventuring with her husband, snuggling her cats, and studying psychology.
It was great to finally get to see the Baylan Isles and watch the characters grow deeper as the story progressed. I loved that we finally got to see Fiatina’s perspective. She was one of my favorite characters at the end. Her romance was also one of the most interesting parts of the story as well.
Roberts writes romance very well—I have always enjoyed a romantic subplot, but have never thought of romance as a favorite genre. Roberts has balanced the romantic tensions along well with the overall plot.
Vivianna’s character progression was a little weird for me. I wish we could have seen a little more of the “storyteller” aspect in the first book before she becomes this amazing storyteller in the second book. I appreciated her growth and how she learns about not allowing the sins of others to affect how she sees herself. I did feel like she was a little overshadowed by some of the other characters though.
We did not see as much from Nex in this book which surprised me. But I was glad to see him growing and becoming a better man.
Caela was a purposefully flawed character with an intriguing perspective to read. I liked seeing her reasoning, even though it was wrong. She felt very “real”.
I ADORED Tyde’s extended family. His older sister and gran were wonderful. I love how even Savanna’s minor characters are still strong and fleshed out.
There was a part near the end I saw coming from a mile away, but it still effected the characters in really interesting ways and it still made me sad so it ended up okay.
I kinda hoped the ending would hold a little more description/resolution for Kallimene and Caela. I don’t disagree with how the characters handled it, but I would have liked to see more concerning those two.
Like book one, once I got to reading I didn’t want to stop. Roberts’ pacing is fascinating and enjoyable to experience.
Continuing the Quelmirian duology, Storyteller keeps you enthralled in the story as Vivianna, Nex, Tyde, and Fiatina, now joined by airpirate Reeve, make their way to the Baylan isles and recover there until they form a plan to retake the kingdom from Kallimene. A wonderful conclusion to this story, we see each character come full circle in their journeys, and in unexpected but fitting ways. Saving the kingdom doesn’t come without a price, and tears were shed before victory was claimed, just showing how amazing the characters are and how well they can invoke emotion in the reader. The end makes it all worthwhile however, and is a beautiful ending indeed that makes you wish there was a sequel. Again, I would recommend this series for older teens and adults due to some mild language and inappropriate content.
The characters are good, and one scene with Nex totally made me cry. There are some lovely moments and excellent character development for all the main characters, and I'm glad I predicted a couple things about the end and the characters' final roles, because it's what made sense! So that was good.
Unfortunately, there were things that made no sense to me personally, in worldbuilding and plot and the character's decisions, as well the inclusion of so many Quelmirian myths and stories that had nothing to do with the plot. But an overall enjoyable story.
This is book 2 in the Quelmirian Duology, written by yours truly! I hope the end of the series meets all of your expectations. Thank you so much for coming along on Vivianna's journey with me!
