This book is all about how to start journalling.

it talks about the best why to save your journal entries, either in a notebook or an app. Different ways to journal and how journalling can be beneficial to you health and wellbeing.

To be honest, there was nothing in this book that I didn't already know. There was a few journalling prompts which I liked. But I would have liked to seen samples of each kind of journalling types, not just talking about it.

I did like that the book had a ribbon to use has a page marker,

The Journal Writer's Companion is a pretty good intro to journaling, and it's very nicely designed. I personally knew a lot of the content already and skimmed a bit of it, but I do think those who don't have any experience with journaling will most likely find this book helpful.

I was curious, just wanted a rundown of some different journaling styles and a handful of related prompts & found this to be pretty much what I was looking for. Honestly, I'd give it more like 3.5 stars, but rounded up instead of down because she clearly put some effort into this. Appreciative of the amount of work it takes to write a book of any use or value at all, rounding up felt more appropriate.

There are some great prompts; I'd have liked to see more. I'd especially have liked to see some more bulleted descriptions; I don't think all of this needed to be formatted paragraphically; a lot of it could have been more succinct. At times, the verbosity felt a bit like filler, and I found myself skimming.

Her reflections on the different modes & motivations of various journaling types was thought provoking and inspiring, and that's the other reason I rounded up. If the goal of her book was to get you excited about journaling, she succeeded.

I enjoyed this book, it had a lot of journalling ideas and prompts and was a quick, easy read. But. What stood out negatively for me was that the author doesn't seem to take mental health as seriously as I think it needs to be. She writes that journalling is cheaper than therapy, which is true sure, but later goes on to say journalling gives you an outlet so you don't burden your friends and family with your thoughts and feelings. That was a big WTF and really rubbed me the wrong way.

I won this book but have been interested in journalling for a while. This book is amazing and answered my questions about different types of writing goals, diary, planning, art, therapy, etc and how to do it. Beautifully written, practical techniques and encouragement - really brilliant advice about low working memory which my menopausal brain suffers from, I love this book.

As someone who is about to start journaling I am the target audience for this book and yet I don’t think I took anything away from it. This was both too detailed and not detailed enough. It also had a baffling explanation of what a bullet journal was.
