Akela

Rate this book
Akela is climbing out of the pit of mental illness into a completely unfamiliar, low-tech world. On the one hand, she begins to grow and learn, discover new abilities, and even thrive. On the other hand, she is so focused on her own needs she cannot see the serious and potentially life-altering things happening in her own home. Only when an overwhelming need for a child drives her to Loto does she realize the extent of the harm she has caused. Can he excuse her behavior as part of the healing process? Can the rest of the family? Akela continues the story of the Tasi family the first two years after planet-fall. Their new society is coming together, resources scarce the first year soon begin to trickle in, and luxuries appear in the form of a teahouse and a bathhouse. Everything begins to pull together – except for Loto and Akela’s marriage, which derails in an unexpected way.

Following on from Haru, we get to see the colonist settling into new life. This time it’s Akela in the spotlight and we get to see how her character develops. The author does a fantastic job of making the reader feel sympathy for someone who seemed rather unlikable in the previous book.

Excellent read!

This was an excellent read. Seana does a magnificent job bringing the characters to life. You will, no doubt, get comfortable with these characters. You will care about all of them. So we'll written; great story telling and very imaginative. Please read the 1st installment of this serious, if you havent. I recommend them in the correct order. Things are revealed as the stories unfold. Reading Haru first, builds the foundation for the series and characters. I loved Haru, and Akela has proven to be just as maginificent. Secrets uncovered, intensity, new world order... Great book. Can't wait to read the 3rd!

A wonderful story

Such a strong central character, flaws and all! I was crying by the end, so involved in Akela's self realisation and development.
