When I start a trilogy I assume there is an end in sight but when I finish three books and I'm no closer to any resolution, I feel cheated and mislead. Did the author start with no end in mind or is she holding me hostage so I'll buy the next book?

Not a trilogy!

Dark, choppy. I started this because it was bundled has a trilogy. It is not. Too many story lines. Too much hopping around. I'd really like to find a true trilogy. These series that go on and on get so tedious !

I've read these books separately, but love that there's a box set for those who want to binge read!
Following are my reviews of each of the books -

Heart of Dragons:
wow! I've been aware of Ms. Cowley's writing for a couple of years - have had the Books of Caledan on my to-be-read list for that long - but this is the first time I've actually read one of her works. What a mistake to have waited so long; this is definitely an author I will be keeping an eye on!
I loved the characters she created and found myself empathizing with so many of them despite what side they seem to be on! It's entirely possible that I am rooting for both sides at the same time, I don't know, but I guess I'll find out as the plot unfolds! To me, that's a mark of good writing: that characters are developed and portrayed as complex beings, causing me to have sympathy even for those I wouldn't necessarily side with in real life.
I'll tell you, Dimitri's plight has been heart-wrenching and I'm not sure if what he has set in motion is going to be for the good or bad of himself and the people of Pelenor, but Ms. Cowley has fully brought to light something within him that gives me hope for him to land on the side of truth and justice in the end, whatever that looks like. And somehow it has actually put Dimitri tied with Harper for my favorite characters in the book. I would not have guessed that would happen!
I thought it would be easy to name Harper as my favorite, and maybe Aedon as a close second, but somehow Dimitri shimmied right up to the top. I do absolutely love Harper and I can't wait to see how she develops in future installments - the foreshadowing of her magic is terribly intriguing to me! Her goodness, kindness, innocence and compassion all shine through and make her someone I will love to root for and watch. I also love Ragnar for similar reasons and found him near the top of my list of faves! He just seemed so... just. So fair and kindhearted and supportive to Harper and to others in their group, without compromising his morals. Then there's Aedon! With a bit of a cheeky streak and not a little ego! But what a heart; and such magic, and such strength, like Robin Hood: using his gifts to help those in need, those who can't help themselves. I can't ignore Brand and Erika either; I am thoroughly intrigued by their backgrounds. I am chomping at the bit for more insight into Erika's history and character! And although we got a glimpse at Brand's past, I don't think I've ever read about beings like him before, so I'm excited to learn more about him and the world he has come from.
As much as I've enjoyed reading of all these wonderful characters and witnessing the first chapter of Harper's foray in Pelenor, I simply can't wait to continue the story! The ending totally gave me goosebumps and I can not wait to see what happens next in both Dimitri's plan and in Harper and Aedon's quest!

Court of Shadows:
I'm LOVING this series! I waited to read Court of Shadows, but when book 3 came out I had to get caught up so I read this and went straight into Order of Valxiron - super glad I did! It's an incredibly exciting series with lots of action; I love the flow of the story as Ms. Cowley exposes details and the storyline progresses. The characters are really easy for me to empathize/sympathize with - even the ones that could land on the dark side. Again, I find this to be the mark of a talented writer, being able to portray the complexities in character that make beings feel real.
I do love Harper and probably root for her above everyone else, but there definitely are a couple (few?) close behind. I also really like that we get to follow and watch the developments of the whole crew from the first book despite that they get separated. Now, I just REALLY want to know how it all plays out - who ends up where? Does the prophesy get fulfilled the way I hope? How does Dimitri play his hand now that he sees what state Sardon is in? Does the band of Aedon, Ragnar, Brand and Erika stick together? ....

Order of Valxiron:
I admit I read Court of Shadows and Order of Valxiron back to back so I was fully engrossed in the world of these characters; and boy do I want to find out how this whole story wraps up!
After the first book, Heart of Dragons, I was surprised to put Dimitri and Harper at the top of my list for favorite characters, with Ragnar close behind; then Aedon... quickly followed by Brand and Erika. Now, having finished Order of Valxiron, I have to think that I had it right from the start: I love Dimitri as much as I do Harper! The more of his history that gets revealed, the more I empathize with Dimitri and the more my heart goes out to him. Watching his growth and seeing his emotional progress just makes me love him more; with all that he has experienced and how he got to the place he was at at the beginning of book one, to now see him letting Harper into his heart and making choices based on what is the right thing to do is really heartwarming! And Harper really seems to be coming into her own; no longer the naive, innocent young girl she appeared to be at the start, she now seems to have a worldliness about her. It feels like she is much more capable and is exhibiting a strength and instinctive intelligence that enable her to survive in this new world she landed in mere months before. She also remains incredibly compassionate and kind to all those around her, while maintaining her integrity and morals. She's so strong and so loyal and so kind-hearted and with her magic progressing, she's just amazing! I can't wait to see how the prophecy ends up being fulfilled!
And as for Ragnar and Aedon, Brand and Erika... they had a lot of action in this last book, showing their strengths, skills and dedication to not only their group, but to all the peoples of their world. It was truly endearing and engaging seeing how it was all playing out and now I can't wait to see how Ms. Cowley develops the rest of their stories and wraps it all up! I mean, I love how the relationship between Brand and Erika is progressing, yet we still haven't learned her back story; and with her people on their way to the center of the action, I imagine that will be fleshed out. I'd love to know more about how she became the woman she is. Similarly with Brand, we learned a bit about his past, but his people and lands have not really played a part yet and I would so love to learn about them!
Ragnar and Aedon have had quite major roles so far and have been developing so nicely, again I just can't wait to see how everything gets wrapped up! I'm loving Ragnar's story with respect to his family and land, yet I'm excited for him to reunite with his band of friends and hope he doesn't need to be permanently separated from them! And I'm enjoying watching Aedon emotionally mature and put things into perspective; I'll be super curious to see how everything goes for him in his relationships as well as with his commitment to Solanaceae!
All in all, I'm finding this to be an amazing series with great characters, an exciting plot and lots of intrigue. For probably the tenth time now, I have to say I just can't wait to see how it all wraps up!!!! I hope it's not long before the next book gets released....

Spectacular Series! Epic fantasy series that follows the adventures of a Harper, a peasant girl, as she is dropped in the middle of the age-old battle between good and evil. Wonderful characters that tug at your heartstrings. I highly recommend this spectacular series!

Heart of Dragons - Loved it! Very enjoyable story of a young girl who finds herself on an adventure more amazing and terrifying than she had imagined possible. Wonderful characters in an interesting world. I look forward to seeing where the story goes next.

Court of Shadows - Goblins & Dwarves. Harper is back with her friends and evil has risen. Bonds are forged as secrets are revealed. The elven court crumbles as Saradon’s goblin horde takes on the Dwarven kingdom. Hope is slim, but Harper and her friends endure.

Order of Valxiron - Great! Lots of intriguing as Harper, now under Saradon’s power, learns to survive in the Elven court and as an initiate in the Order of Valxiron. Realms are saved and lost as alliances are forged and deals are made. I can’t wait to finish the story in Mark of Fate!

Mark of Fate - Spectacular! A truly epic conclusion to an excellent story. Fabulous characters in amazing situations. It will keep you on the edge of your seat while playing with your emotions and making you shake your head in stunned amazement.

This box set is an amazing tale! In this Chronicles of Pelenor, this story has the reader turning pages and devouring every word. Harper and Demetri are on their own with Saradon and trouble abound. Aedon, Brand, Erika and Ragnar have their own kind of problems. They want to save Harper but at what price... this is a outstanding tale. Meg Cowley takes her readers through all the splendor treachery and plot twist in this vivid tale. This is a must read for all the fans of magic, dragons, elves dwarves and good versus evil.

Too busy. It started out strong with a great premise and interesting characters. But too many perspectives in the last book that shifted too frequently. Entire sections were spent on irrelevant details. The author would have been much better served focusing only on Harper and Dimitri with maybe some of Aedon. It felt like the author was trying to be Robert Jordan, which she is not. I don't think I'll be reading the next book.

Great read

The suspense was great at every turn..
could not put the book down..
The only thing I would say is negative.. You have to buy another book to see what happens.. Which is annoying.. Why they can’t put them together I will never know..

Fantastic Fantasy. Lovers of fantasy should read Meg Cowley's books. Meg has the ability to describe the characters and their surroundings so well that you feel as if you're actually there with them. They're just full of really cool magic

This book is about three different characters and how they are all connected. One of the main characters, Harper, believes she is a normal human and lives in the human part of her world, unaware of another place thats full of magic. One day she finds a stone that teleports her to this magic place called Pelenor where she meets a group of thieves who she follows. This jumpstarts the plot and things continue from there. I liked the world building in this book, you can really see the contrast between Harper's world and Pelenor. It felt like the author could have done something to make the book more memorable, there are a lot of slow parts that aren't really important to the story that I think could be cut out to make room for more of the story line. I think people who like fantasy and romance will like this book.

I enjoyed these books immensely but if it’s say trilogy then I think the book should finish at end of the third book. I won’t start a book unless it’s completed

I've read the first two installments of the Pelenor Chronicles individually and then binge-read them just before reading the third. Oh boy, what a ride that was!!! Each book is darker than the previous, yet with attention to detail and vivid descriptions, that had me picturing the story unfolding in my mind's eye while reading.

I really loved Meg Cowley's portrayal of each main character, as they develop and grow with each passing page. Harper's character keeps developing from the innocent and naive girl we came to know in the first book to a strong female character that is prepared to do what needs to be done, Dimitrius is not the villain he appeared to be, Aedon has more depth than the lighthearted elf we've come to know. Each and every one of them have a part to play in the greater scheme of things, and I'm definitely anxious to read what comes next. The ending and Harper's and Dimitrius' separation, just as they've started to develop their relationship, left me heartbroken. I sincerelly hope the next installment comes soon!!!

If you haven't read any of the Pelenor Chronicles, I strongly recommend grabbing this boxed set and lose yourself in the wonderful universe Meg Cowley has created.

Fans of Sword & Sorcery Epic Fantasy will definitely love this!!!

Heart of Dragons: A Sword & Sorcery Epic Fantasy (Chronicles of Pelenor, Book 1), my fifth read from author Meg Cowley. From the opening pages, you could tell this was an epic in the making with the story requiring multiple volumes to tell. Wonderful characters, detailed settings. Very good read! Narrator Jack Voraces continues narrating Meg Cowley’s work & his talented narration & captivating accent adds greatly to the book's enjoyment. Be careful of what you say and who you say it to
The characters continue to grow and change in book 2. Harper is wonderful. She is someone you can relate to right from the beginning. She has a lot to learn still and is stubborn. She has a heart of gold and wants to save everyone even if it means giving up her own freedom. Her small group of 5 help and support each other. The team consists of an elf, a dwarf, a nomad human, an aerial (a man with wings) and Harper a half-human, half-elf. War is breaking out and the individual races need to learn to work together like this team does if they are to defeat their foe. The storyline flows well with a lot of twists and turns. This book is full of action and has amazing world-building. I look forward to the next book in the series.

The narrator continues to do a great job in the reading of the book. He has an interesting voice. Each character sounds different. Aedan sounds Irish.

A truly magnificent trilogy!

I have read each book individually and was delighted to get my hands on this box set. This is one of my favorites of the year...... Meet Harper and companions. There is a prophecy that says Harper's destiny is to be the ruin of the evil Saradon and the Order of Valxiron. Can it be true? It will take all of her courage and the help of her friends just to stay alive. This story has a thrilling plot and moves at a fast pace. It if full of excitement, intrigue, betrayal, frequent conflict and danger at every turn. The characters are engaging, complex and unforgettable. The author has created an extraordinary world and story that fully engages the reader. Such a well crafted story you will not want to miss out on. I give this trilogy my highest recommendation possible!

Up and Down!
That's how my emotions were as I read all of the series. I could not make up my mind about the main male characters (Dimitri and Aedon); one minute I loved one and despised the other and in the next book, it reversed. One time I thought they were selfish or cold or had any number of character flaws and then I empathized with them. My feelings about Harper did not swing as dramatically as they did with the two males; she took a more usual growth pattern from naïve to growing more mature. I really enjoyed the world building and the other characters' profiles; descriptive and believable (for a fantasy world). When I was finally able to start reading the series, I couldn't stop until I had finished all of the books available; SO glad I did not have to wait between books! I am going to have a tough time until the next one is written, please hurry!

Some time ago I swore I wouldn't read another series until all the books were published. Why'd I do it again? I love the Chronicles of Pelenor series with a passion and now I can't wait for the next and hopefully final book. only because I'm gonna read it as soon after it's out and I don't want to have to impatiently wait for another. Meg Crowley is a delightful author who spins her tales using all of her resources at hand. She's had me using every emotion I have as I wind my way through Pelenor. I've sat on the edge of my seat, laughing uncontrollably and driven to tears. I fell in love with her stories in the Caledan books and she hasn't disappointed me yet. I wait impatiently for the next book and then the next series.

Those seeking revenge for wrongs done by others, usually find themselves destroying what they love.

I like the Harper the orphan transported from home, by Dimitri into a strange new land. Luckily, she is found by Aedon's merry band of outlaws, that take her in. While they are trying to help the less fortunate in the land, Harper and Dimitri meet. While Harper isn't sure who is really an enemy, it a friend, she & Dimitri, find a way to work past their own personal issues to secretly plot together to fight, and find a dragon heart to save the land they love. Aedon & his band must put aside their personal differences with Dimitri to help Harper find the way to save the land from the evil king reborn.

Meg Cowley has a proven track record of putting out well-written and fun books, and a no surprise - that’s exactly what you get with her Chronicles of Pelenor. Fans of “Sword & Sorcery” novels will love this epic fantasy. A perfectly crafted world full of magic, dragons, and elves. A great cast of characters led by deliciously complex Harper and Dimitri. A great read all around. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The collection definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the collection is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

This is a collector edition with all the three first books in the series.
I've read all three of them and I gotta say, I'm very impressed with what Meg Cowley has accomplished in this short time.
The world building and character descriptions are simply amazing. I got drawn in from the first chapter, and I had a hard time putting the book down. Once you get to know Harper, Aedon and the rest of their little band, you'll know what I'm talking about. A simply must read for the fantasy lovers out there.

The biggest issue I have with this story is the bad guy story seems a copy out of The Simarillion. Good god goes bad, wants to corrupt the world to his view, gets thrown down by good gods, gets their trust again and betrays them. I stopped reading after book 2 I couldn't get past the story of the bad guy.

Fun adventure

This is a well written, well edited and all around fun fantasy adventure. Complex characters and different perspectives keeps things from becoming tedious or monotonous. The characters are not infallible and sometimes poor decisions have disastrous results instead of continuous triumphs. Definitely worth the read.
