Strike team leader Sk'lar just wants to do his job well.
Through long, painful experience, he's developed the skills to do just that.

Until a strong, fierce human woman rocks his world.
And then nothing else matters but her.

She doesn't know it yet.
But she's his.
And he's hers.
Forever.

Focused, beautiful Phryne Manka doesn't do relationships.

As the head of security for Vidia Birch, she barely has the time or interest to think about people.

But there's something about Sk'lar that makes her relax her guard.
Have fun. Feel like a woman, not a soldier.

Good thing he's just a friend, right?
Simpler that way. Easier.
But when there's a threat to her life, he's the only one she can trust.

And in the chaos that follows she has to ask, does really know what her heart wants?

Sk'lar is the thirteenth book in the Conquered World science fiction romance series.
Each book features the romance of a new couple, with alpha male alien warriors and women who don't put up with their nonsense. No cheating, no cliffhangers, HEA guaranteed!

I have not read a bad book from this author yet and this book is no exception! The great plot and character development kept me so engaged throughout the entire book that I had a very hard time putting this book down until the very last page was turned!

Struggle

This is first in series I did not read throughout. I kept hoping that author would be consistent in layout and process. The abrupt ends frankly piss me off at this point. The human hate POV sucks. Why isn’t the alien hate (or disdain and superior complex) of humans given same weight. This virus, etc storyline is not great.
The explanation of humans being “dropped off” and communication not being set up because they wanted no interference is ridiculous. There is no way that the tech savvy people would not have come back to drop off more humans and check on why they didn’t hear from them. We can theorize there are multiple human resettlement’s, and they would be trading, watching for issues, etc for study.
The Mayor, her “brain issue” obviously is the whatever is issue with humans, no way doctor would keep it from general because of security.
Finally This couple is no way believable. It is definitely just a sex thing, no matter what author tries to convey.
I will attempt one last book, then I am done with series if it anyway like this.

Sk'lar is a strike team leader and over a long experience he has now got the skills to do his job well until he meets Phryne Manka who might be fierce but she is his just as he is hers - she just doesn't realise it yet. In the meantime, she occupies his thoughts and nothing else matters to him but her.
Phryne is the head of security for Vidia Birch and doesn't do relationships, but Sk'lar makes her relax her guard and feel like a woman, not a soldier. Just as well he is just her friend - but when there is a threat to her life he is the only one she can trust and then she has to ask herself - does she really know what her heart wants?

I enjoyed this story with the strong and focussed Phryne and the strong and determined Sk'lar. Really they were made for each other they just needed the time and space to realise it. An enjoyable read which was easy to read and understand. I enjoyed all the details about the different threats to the peace and the Puppet Master. I'm looking forward to reading more about it in the next book. Contains some explicit sexual content.

How is this h compared to the others?
Wow, she's right up the H's alley. Normally the main couple are opposites attracting but to kick off, these 2 thought alike.
But then all is revealed.... and so the chalk and cheese begins.
In this plotline it's more politically minded, but as a twist starts to unfurl Elin doesn't disappoint with other wordly actions stepping the story up to a quicker pace.
I found myself a bit frustrated and confused as the dilemma and the antagonist has been exposed yet it's slow in dawning and I'm guessing the outcome of the book before ahead of time.
This instalment is kind of a loose cliffhanger...I know who, what, and partly why, but not the how. I expect this will continue with Jalok's story.
Apart from that, the dry humour and wit on this story is definitely entertaining. Only 3 stars as I wasn't keen on this book
I believe this humour is brilliantly enhanced by Piers, and as a British narrator he's becoming one of my most faves

Let me start off by saying that this book has a truly unique plot. In 2000 books, I’ve read in my lifetime, I’ve never read anything like it. Having said that, most of the books did not have a lot of plot development. They happened every few books or so. The couples would meet and fall in love within 2 to 3 days and suddenly they’re all life partners which I find extremely hard to believe and doesn’t allow you to get to know the characters as fully as You could/should. So I hope she works on that. This book set could’ve been so much more than it was. As I previously mentioned, the plot was unique, and I would have loved to see more of it In all of the books. My chapter review is below. Negative means little to no plot development and plus equals plot development. And the plus and minus mean there was a little bit of plot development, but not a lot. Are you confused?

Sk'lar by Elin Wyn is an action-packed, romantic read , with a good plot and great characters. It is written in dual POV and is 233 pages in kindle edition.

Phryne is a workaholic, badass, strong and clever woman with commitment issues. I love Sk'lar, he is funny, caring , romantic and considerate. I really enjoyed how their relationship started and developed. The plot of the book isn't centered on the romantic relationship, which I didn't really liked. I also didn't like the abrupt ending.

ok

For me this one was just ok. I hate to say it but I skimmed and I’m ashamed. Phryne made me want to kick people. Idk why but she just rubbed me the wrong way as a human being. There was something off about Sk’lar too but I can still deal with him. The whole election thing reminded me that no matter what I hate politics!!!!!

Sk'lar

Phryne is the very competent head of the Mayer's security and Sk'lar is the boss of team Three of the "aliens" . They get together over drinks and then lots of anti-alien humans start mutinys.

I think Phryne and Sk'lar make the most perfectly matched couple yet!

I adore Sk'lar, he is sort of this uber Alpha male who doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve but he is attentive, bright, caring and quite funny. I think the reason he and Phryne work so well together is they have the same work ethic, she isn't really open with her emotions either and I think I really enjoyed the fact that they built up such a solid friendship before they got physically involved. The one problem with neither of them being emotionally effusive is that it tends to leave both of them pretty unsure of where they stand with the other. Now that the Puppet Master is an ally things should be starting to go smoothly for this fantastic group of Aliens and humans but unfortunately there is now the face an entirely new set of problems. The anti-alien segment of the community seems to be growing in numbers and there is an entirely new threat causing all sorts of problems between humans and aliens and with so many of the teams' human allies turning inexplicably against them how long can they trust the humans that mean so very much to them. Will they be able to figure out what is causing the growing rage amongst the humans and can Sk'lar and Phryne let down their walls enough to let the other in? A book that is easy to read (you will fly through the pages), amazing characters and a story that will keep you glued to the pages.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Sk'lar was such a joy to read. Some of the past threats have settled down but that doesn't mean they are left in the clear of new, growing threats. The humans are turning against the aliens more and more, which leaves them trying to get to the bottom of all the hostility before things get out of hand.

Both, Sk'lar and Phryne are all about their jobs and that doesn't leave much time for a dating life, but that helps them have a certain understanding for each other staying busy with work. They each have a leader personality but became a really good pair to work together. Sk'lar was quite funny and could really lighten the mood and draw Phryne out of her head from thinking so much, however, they still knew how to let loose and unwind. Soon their friendship turned into something much more.

I love this amazing world in this series and really enjoyed getting to read Phryne's and Sk'lar's story. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

When I started this book I didn't like Phryne at all. Human security officer with no personality, no sense of humor, no friends and a huge chip on her shoulder. Sk'lar, is Strike Team Three's leader and his personality was somewhat the same, so they meshed well together (though not at first). Sk'lar and Phryne have the same work ethics and are both protectors. Being such a curmudgeon, Sk'lar turned out to be quite funny and loving with Phryne. Of course nobody else saw that side of him. I loved that he was able to bring that side of her out to play too. He knows she is good at her job but after she's almost killed twice, he wants to spend all of his time with her. I must say if you like exciting, steamy sci-fi with sexy aliens and the humans that fall in love with them, be sure to check out Elin Wyn. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.

Sk'lar (Conquered World Book 13) by Elin Wyn
The Aliens landed their spaceship at a settlement to see if they needed any help but this settlement blamed the alien for everything that has happened on their planet and hated all the aliens. Phryne is head security has her eye on everything including her new friend Sk'lar. I love this book and all the others in this series. I love that Elin Wyn writes the women of this series as strong women with brains. I love how each book is so different from the last and has there own ending but still has a continuing storyline. This book is a very fast read because it is so hard to put down. I highly recommend this book and all the books in this series, they are all great reads. I received an advanced reader copy from bookfunnel and have voluntarily chosen to leave a review. This is my honest opinion.

Another good addition to the series.

Phryne and Sk'lar both born to serve, both highly skilled security officers for their respective people, both unaccustomed to showing others their feelings and both always feeling like they never quite fit in find the missing piece of the puzzle in each other. They start off as co workers both protecting Vidia and the fragile peace between the aliens and the humans living together Nyhiem. As their friendship develops passion blossoms between them. This connection makes them stronger and they will need it in the fight ahead. A new for one that comes from the rift has surfaced and it can turn loved ones and friends against each other. To fight this enemy they as well as all the others will have to trust in the love and passion between them to see them through his new adventure. I can't wait to read the next adventure.💖

A Fabulous Sci-Fi/Romance .
I volunteered to read an advanced readers copy of SK'LAR . I really enjoyed reading SK'LAR . This is an action packed, suspenseful and interesting story . Phyrne is head of the security department of FRAGA since the alien invasion . Everything to do with the humans goes through her . She works along side the aliens .
Strange things are happening with the anti alien groups and people of FRAGA . Phyrne and her friend and boss acting mayor Vidia find themselves in danger . Phyrne and SK'LAR start spending time together after work and find themselves getting closer , even with all the craziness going on around . This is absolutely fantastic Sci-Fi story . It's well written and intense definitely action packed . I highly recommend reading .

I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.

3.5 stars

This is one of the transition books in the series. A lot of the plot in this book is setting up a the newest bad guy (creature?) for the series. I liked getting a look at the new strike team. Phryne was a bit standoffish and took a bit to warm up, but once she started spending time with Sk'lar I really started to like her. Sk'lar had to work a bit to get her to open up, but I thought they did a good job of balancing the need to work together and developing a relationship. Phryne and Sk'lar both have a reserved nature, but they matched well. I do wish the plot had a bit more of there time together as the plot had them going to different places.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this new threat progresses.

The 13th book in the Conquered world series and the romance between the Vengeaance crew and their lady loves just get steamier and steamier..... Strike team 3 leader Sk'lar finds himself working closely with the head of security Phryne, a competent and hardworking woman that has his circuits doing funny things.......Phryne has no time for dating and fun as her job keeps her busy and on her toes at all times....but Sk'lar makes her laugh, relax and be her self......is the tough and no nonsense Phryne ready for a relationship with an alien man that does things to her that has her tingling all over?

Sk'lar and Phryne have a great story to tell, confrontations with alien hating humans, visits with the puppet master, spats with the sentient trees, and all other manner of strange goings on are happening while these two are trying to help handle the elections and figure out their own relationship. i received an arc of this story that i happily reviewed

Phryne & Sk'lar

A little disappointing...lots of questions about who is behind the anti-alien mobs...what is altering the minds of the humans...what's behind the rift being unsafe, and what's happening with The Puppet Master. The story just becomes bogged down. This book is less about Phryne and Sk'lar and more about preparing the reader for future books.

I thought K’ver were the logical reserved species. Sk’lar is practically a comedian. I had problems reconciling that though I love the sarcasm. Just felt out of place somehow.
