USA TODAY Bestselling Author Brandt Legg uses his unusual real life experiences to create page-turning novels. He’s traveled with CIA agents, dined with senators and congressmen, mingled with astronauts, chatted with governors and presidential candidates, had a private conversation with a Secretary of Defense he still doesn’t like to talk about, hung out with Oscar and Grammy winners, had drinks at the State Department, been pursued by tabloid reporters, and spent a birthday at the White House by invitation from the President of the United States.

At age eight, Legg's father died suddenly, plunging his family into poverty. Two years later, while suffering from crippling migraines, he started in business, and turned a hobby into a multi-million-dollar empire. National media dubbed him the “Teen Tycoon,” and by the mid-eighties, Legg was one of the top young entrepreneurs in America, appearing as high as number twenty-four on the list (when Steve Jobs was #1, Bill Gates #4, and Michael Dell #6). Legg still jokes that he should have gone into computers.

By his twenties, after years of buying and selling businesses, leveraging, and risk-taking, the high-flying Legg became ensnarled in the financial whirlwind of the junk bond eighties. The stock market crashed and a firestorm of trouble came down. The Teen Tycoon racked up more than a million dollars in legal fees, was betrayed by those closest to him, lost his entire fortune, and ended up serving time for financial improprieties.

After a year, Legg emerged from federal prison, chastened and wiser, and began anew. More than twenty-five years later, he’s now using all that hard-earned firsthand knowledge of conspiracies, corruption and high finance to weave his tales. Legg’s books pulse with authenticity.

His series have excited nearly a million readers around the world. Although he refused an offer to make a television movie about his life as a teenage millionaire, his autobiography is in the works. There has also been interest from Hollywood to turn his thrillers into films. With any luck, one day you’ll see your favorite characters on screen.

Legg now writes full time – his favorite endeavor ever! For more information, visit BrandtLegg.com, or to contact Brandt directly, email him: Brandt@BrandtLegg.com, he loves to hear from readers and always responds!

This story had potential but never struck the right combination for me. The characters were over dramatic and the "end of the world" scenario has been depicted so much, I needed a better plot. Sad to say, I would not recommend.

Brandt Legg never disappoints. His books take your mind on a journey where the line between reality and imagination blurs. His main character, Chase Malone, is a brilliant computer engineer who writes a program that can allow someone to walk or destroy the world. Wen Sung, a Chinese defector, is caught in the whirlwind dance with him to save us from the apocalypse.
I've read other books on artificial intelligence, but this one gave me the chills. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

A healthy adventure

This is a nice book and the story holds together really well, without the characters having super depth. They are each as detailed as they need to be and the background universe is so plausible that it felt like a mainstream novel rather than science fiction.

That's quite the trick and the book is well worth the time to read it. I'm ready for the series, even though I have no idea where the series goes next. It should be a fun book, regardless.

Nice technically, but just a hollow read.

The book never drew me into the story. I was disappointed. It is possible that this was not the authors best work, but at this point, I have little desire to find out.

Frightening

In this age of AI, this book reveals the dangers that can come with such technology. Fast paced and well written!

I did not like the whole end of the world plot, there was nothing in this book that you can look forward to. The Concept was good but implementation was poor and the editors should have done a better job in polishing the overall plot. Such a powerful AI and it wasn't doing anything but to pose a threat to the human race. The narration of the audible edition was ok but could have been better.

I returned the book and perhaps may not go for the second book in the series.

Chase is a 20-something tech genius billionaire who invented and sold some AI technology that in the wrong hands could end mankind, and he is going to make sure that doesn’t happen. This book is all action with very little plot or character development. It may have made for a fun action movie, but I was just bored throughout the book, and didn’t care about any of the characters. Probably will not read the other books in the series and would not recommend this book.

Who runs the world?

Exciting, fast-paced book that captures you from start to finish. This high-tech story raises concerns for our future as we develop artificial intelligence. While our world is run by computers, at what point will computers run the world? That is the question power by this book.

A Great Read

A scary and unfortunately believable story that kept me reading late into the night
So many bad guys and so few good guys made for a thrilling story.
If you enjoy international intrigue, dangerously powerful corporations and the ever increasing incursion of computers into our lives you will particularly enjoy this book.
I highly recommend it.

Chasing RAIN: as a Technothriller book (1st in the series), this is non-stop action that goes beyond AI - literally implanting CHIPS into people's brain, rendering them almost invincible, with no limit as to what they can do. A fantastic read!

This is somewhat different from the mystery/thrillers that I normally read, but I must say that I enjoyed it. The characters were likeable and brilliant and the action was constant and exciting. I rate it 5 stars.

San Francisco, CA. Chase Malone (29, tech billionaire, Balance Engineering co., RAI inventor, Tsinghua U) & Desmond “Dez” Jefferson (A/A, Balance Engineering co. business partner, engineer, former Federal Prison convict) were discussing their major project.
Adya Patel (Balance Engineering co. financial whiz) informed them Wen Sung is in trouble.
Derek is dead.

7/4, Washington, DC. Potomac River Crystal City, VA. Wen Sung (28, former Chinese intelligence agent) Chase Malone (29, Wen’s BF) were getting ready for the fireworks display.
Gunner (explosives expert) did his part & Powder finished the final wiring, synced the detonator, & checked his watch. The celebration on the National Mall was in 30 minutes.
BOOM! The Tri-Knight Avionics building erupted.
There was a list of targets: Crystal City, VA; Seattle, WA; Austin, TX; Cincinnati, OH; Albuquerque, NM; Chapel Hill, NC; Huntsville, AL; San Jose, CA; & San Francisco, CA.

Chase was being hunted by satellites & Rong Lo & Franco wanted to kill him.

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written thriller book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great thriller movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Fast and Furious

Even tech duffers like me can enjoy this book as long as you don’t need to understand the high tech talk in the book to understand the story concept.

Chase is a tech genius who sold a complex tech program, RAI, for billions so he could fund his next project.
Unfortunately the people he sold to moved his concept on a notch but for all the wrong reasons which threatens the future of humanity.
There’s Chase and his tech team, there’s the Chinese MSS and there’s the US off the books group that are part of Homeland Security and there’s the Gestapo of the company that bought the program.
A fast and furious story where Chase is trying to save his Chinese girlfriend, Wen, whilst also trying to throw a spanner in the works of the owners of RAI. At the same time the RAI owners Gestapo are trying to find and kill Chase and Wen who are also targets of the MSS as the US Homeland department have their own interests to look after in the whole mess.

Some great action moments in the book and lots of other things to think about that could be impacted by Chase and his objectives as friends are murdered along the way.

Tough to put down.

Computer Genius and head of a large firm sold some software to another huge firm run by an unscrupulous owner who has used it to create an artificial intelligence and a implanted chip to create an army of advanced soldiers. The seller of the software has another program that sees the AI human connection will be the end of humanity and is working on hacking in to the program and destroying it. Mean while and old Chinese girl friend has sent a desperate message for help as she is on the run from a a Chinese secret intelligence head had his agents, the security chief of the firm building the enhanced soldiers is also after him as well as a secret US intelligence agency. It is cat and mouse as he and his girlfriend escape capture and death as they try to link up. Can they? You'll have to read to find out.

Having read Chasing Rain, I am rather glad I am but am ordinary bloke with no designs on becoming famous and rich.
Quite unlike Chase Malone, in fact. Chase is a brilliant programmer and very, very rich having sold off a computer programme, called RAI, that improved AI functionality incredibly much.
He subsequently developed a new computer programme, called Seer, in time to discover that the entire world is about to die as RAI is about to become RAIN in the hands of an unscrupulous corporate magnate.
And Chase became the object of a massive manhunt to prevent him doing anything to stop RAIN being implemented.
The insane chases and action is enough to keep anyone up til the early morning hours trying to find out whether Chase and his beloved Wen will survive the manhunt.
Enjoy

Could any of this be real?

Sit back, snap your seat belt on and prepare for a crazy and scary ride. Chase has developed a program for using artificial intelligence which he and his partners sell for billions. When he finds out what they plan on doing with it, he knows he has to stop them. This is a real page turner with the questions of who will die next and will anyone survive running throughout the book. There are rogue corporate goons, secret government agents, criminals, and ex-military personnel all doing their best to either kill or protect Chase. There is even time for a touch of romance. Enjoy!

This is what could possibly happen if AI got into the wrong hands!! Luckily the original coder for this realized what was happening after he sold the rights to it. This is total suspense as Chase Malone is bound and determined to stop this. Many deaths. Not too many of the good guys are alive at the end. The unscrupulous conglomerate had figured out how to implant a chip into the brain of human beings--UH OH.

Chase is on the run hiding from those who don't want him to succeed in stopping this. Will he manage it and save humanity or will humans all turn into semi robots?

Definitely an eye opener into what could possibly happen if AI technology gets into the wtong hands!!

From the very first page the pace of this book is rollercoaster fast. This is literally a race to save humankind and Chase Malone may be the only person on earth who can stop what is happening.

With 3 different hostile faction determined to stop Chase he has his work cut out to succeed. To complicate things even more he first needs to find Wen, the woman he loves who he believes is in mortal danger.

This is a really well written book, I love the short chapters that make it easy to keep turning the pages. The action is non-stop and the plot is great.

I will definitely be reaching for book 2

Entertaining and interesting read

An interesting look at the potential down side of artificial intelligence. In the same way that atomic energy has been used against humanity, so too might artificial intelligence. A thoroughly believable premise in which humans can build expanding neural networks, developing superhuman minds. Enter the baddies who use this for nefarious purposes, while the goodies try to stop the misuse of AI.

Believable and credible science, reasonably well written but unsubtle in the goodies vs the baddies, this is an easy and entertaining read.

Wow! I could not put down the thriller Chasing RAIN by Brandt Legg. When Chase Malone realizes that the AI software, RAI, that he sold is now being used to make super-beings, he fears for humanity and wants to destroy the software. The Chinese, the government, and the company that bought his software are now chasing him to prevent the destruction.

When an old flame, Wen, seeks his help in defecting from China, his purpose becomes two-fold. Can he save both his girlfriend and humanity?

If you enjoy suspenseful thrillers, I highly recommend Chasing RAIN.

Thank you Brandt for the opportunity to read your book

A gripping story of all that could go wrong with the development of AI. The initial developer of advanced RAI programs sells of his interests to a company that is run by the power hungry.
Follow our hero Chase as he and his associates race against time to shut down the programme before it is too late for mankind.
Perhaps these things are already happening in the world as men greedy for power and money control the corporations involved in this type of development.
All fiction is based on fact I believe. Certainly a good read

Wasn't sure about this when first started but once got over the beginning enjoyed it. Really liked the quotes from various books, they fitted into the storyline well.

Computer programme sold by designer to a company that used it for AI development, rivalry between companies/countries, chases and deaths.

Typical of humans when something new is discovered we can't wait to get it going without really looking at the consequences and implications if it is used in the 'wrong' way or what might happen in the future e.g. plastic

This is a book about technology induced Ragnarok. If you were the person responsible for the Rapid Artificial Intelligence which made it possible, what is your responsibility? This gave the book a slow start. It seemed to get buries as the author pulled in additional players, many with evil intent and others with uncertain intent.

Then the author introduced a whole lot of action and slowly unwound the tangled threads. It you like spy novels, particularly with heavy underhanded computer geniuses, lots of action and flight to avoid death, this one will pull you in, slowly at first and then an ever increasing pace.

“Chasing Rain” by Brandt Legg has all the markers of a great thriller, fast-paced, action-packed, twisted, unexpected bit awaiting at every turn of the page, all wrapped in easy-to-read and still intelligent, witty writing with relatable and credible characters and a plausible plot that, despite its complexity and use of artificial intelligence, remains real and eerie possible. A clear recommendation for thriller fans that appreciate using their own grey brain cells along the reading.

Amazing Parody

What an amazing parody! It never once does a "wink wink" to make us think it is anything but a parody. The overwrought plot! The dire consequences of failure - destruction of the world! The two-dimensional genius characters with superhuman talents! The all-powerful antagonists! Racing from one side of the globe to the other in seconds! How does he do it -- make it a perfect parody of a high sshool sophomore's writing! Im6in awe!

review of Chasing Rain by Brandt Legg

Wow , what a ride. I am just recovering from reading the ending to this adventure. I don’t know how the author can keep all the story lines together at the same time. The theme of AI ,s taking over the world is not new but this version is frightening I hope the world never sees this happen for real. This book will keep you up into the night. I highly recommend this book

Thrilling AI

Chase developed RAI, and then sold it. That company added the "N". The RAIN was so dangerous that Chase knew he had to stop it. Easier said than done. Meanwhile , Wen, his former girlfriend sent him a message . He had to find her!
Well paced, exciting , dangerous .
I truly enjoy this author's writing. The Last Librarian and Cosega Search series top notch in my opinion . He also name drops as well, fits in with the story..

Worth the read

I haven't read many thrillers but of those I've read this is definitely one of the best. The writing was good, the plot was engaging, and the characters were interesting. My simplistic way of judging a book is how eager I am to keep reading and after a couple of chapters I was hooked. Exceeded my expectations.
