The Rags to Romance Series #2

Boone & Charly: Second Chance Love

Rate this book
Bad boy and tortured police chief Robert “Boone” Ryan isn’t thinking about love. All he wants to do is keep his town clean and keep his love life uncomplicated. Already in his forties, he’s still partying like a frat boy and sleeping around with the kind of women he knows would never fall in love with a rascal like him.

And then Charly comes to town.

Charlene “Charly” Johnson isn’t looking for love either. After a disastrous marriage that cost her everything, including what was once a very promising career, she is shocked to learn that a small private school in Kentucky is interested in hiring her as their new dean of students. Once in town, she discovers that the school was forced to diversify their staff by hiring her as their first African-American faculty member, and nobody on the board of directors favors her selection. She also discovers, on her very first day, that there’s a dead body on campus.

And then she meets Boone Ryan.

They team up to find out why a woman died on campus. And when Charly’s past threatens to take her out, too, she turns to Boone, the only man she feels she can trust. And together two unlikely, broken people realize that the very thing neither one of them was looking for just might be the very thing that they need.

Boone and Charly: Second Chance Love is their first book in the Rags to Romance Interracial Romantic Suspense Thriller series.

A Fist Pump.....whith a snap

I'm so in love with this new direction. I love love scenes as well as anyone, but they are over done in a lot of books lately. I love it when there's something left to the imagination. BRAVO!!! I'm still a fan of the Gabrini's and fam......

I absolutely loved this!

I absolutely love love love this one! Because it just goes to show you don't have to have foul language and elicit sex scenes to make it entertaining. I actually had stopped reading her books the last couple years because I became a follower of Christ and I had no desire to wade through all that anymore. So when I came across this new book and read the reviews on how it was different, sweet and clean, I had to see for myself. And I must say I am glad I did. This one has the same undeniable writing voice and style of Mallory Monroe without all the junk. (No offense to those who like the junk) I am just happy that MM is showcasing her wonderful writing capabilities and new characters and I don't have to skip past stuff. I hope This series stays on the clean side as I am happily looking forward to reading what comes next for Boone and Charly. Also, can we meet Boone's siblings? Thank you for this one MM and God bless.

Blond Shaker

Robert Boone Ryan is a man's man....a take no prisoner love'em and leave'em bloke...no time for romance....walk in park...courting ....naw ...not him.....than tragedy strikes....and he became a real brute....until beautiful Charlene came to his little town in Kentucky...mister tough guy falls for her in an instant....now he's holding hands....romancing her....protecting her...because that's the type of lady he's been searching for all his life....Mallory took time building up this new storyline with new characters....emphasis on building new stories and adult dating which builds up to intimacy....allowing us to get to know this new saga.....the Ryan's are pretty powerful family...waiting for the Mayor's story...

Great start

This was a great start to a new series. It was reminiscent of her other novels but different also. I cannot wait to read more about Boone and Charly and Hemingway; I bet that town has a ton of secrets and I cannot wait to learn all of them. I'm glad both characters are slightly older and damaged but willing to try. It will be really interesting to see how their relationship progresses as well as how things shape up with Charly's job. I highly recommend this book. And I'm glad MM tried something different. I loved the secondary characters and I'm looking forward to learning more about them and the other town residents as well. I loved Boone's parents. Their relationship is interesting to say the least. I'm excited about this new series.

A Very Good and Sweet Suspenseful Interracial Romance Thriller

Blind & Charly: Second Chance Love is a very good and sweet suspenseful interracial Romance Thriller that earned a rating of five stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this romance story between Boone and Charly. Boone is a small town chief of police in Kentucky and Charly is newly hired Dean of Students in an exclusive private school. They were both broken people not looking for love but they had made enemies in their past. The had to overcome a lot of obstacles to take a chance on their love for each other. I found the book to be very exciting and would recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading very good interracial romantic thrillers.

A little disappointed

I am a lover of all of Mallory Monroe's books especially the Gabrinis and Sinatras series. This was a clean love story. I don't want clean I want hot passionate sex scenes. I hope she continues writing about Boone and Charly but make things spicier. If this was going to be a clean romance then I wish she would have warned the reader. Please develop his cousins character and tell his story. I waited two months for your book to come out and now I feel cheated.

Surprised!!!

Ok, I was not looking forward to this because there was no Gabrini, Sintara, or Drakos in this book and that is what I had come to look forward to in your books but I'm glad to say I should have known better because you are a beast at this thing .I can honestly say you are one of the best authors I ever had the chance of reading work.Thank you Ms.Monroe for your gift and I want to say that I keep you and your family uplifted in my prayers for the loss of your husband .

New but I liked it.

Though this book was very different from what this author normally writes it was still well done. I expect nothing less from Mallory's Monroe. I kind of liked that the heat was turn down in this book and we got to just focus on the characters and the development of their relationship. Don't get me wrong, she better keep bringing the heat in her other books!!! (just sayin' 😉) LOL...LOL!! But if she came out with more books along this line I would definitely read those also.

It's good and busy.

We have a lot going on in this one. It's enough to make your head spin. Bone is surprisingly endearing with his high handed ways and Charley is very relatable. The wrap up was a little too quick for my taste, and there are no sex scenes but there's a happy ending for your time.

Not a favorite by Mallory

The book had many grammatical errors. Not one of the best books by Mallory I've ever read. I am really surprised at how the book was laid out compared to many of her other works. I am really disappointed. The characters were barely developed in any kind of way. It seemed rushed right as you hit about 75% into the book . I am a long time fan and will read more books but this one was not good at all.

😊😊🙃

Totally fifteenth, I mean a total about face story from the Sinatra/Gambrini sagas. Not only their omission but the writing of the story and the pg romance.
I have to say it was a slow burner, but it was also refreshing to not j have to read just how graphic and intense the men made love to throw women time after time, book after book... Sometimes, it's nice to leave a little too the imaginations of your readers!
I do hope to hear more from Boone and Charley!

Boone & Charley Second Chance Love

Love they have their second chance for LOVE & HAPPINESS, I feel like it's a little too soon for Charley her because not only did the hit man not get his target he possibly stole the mob money from her & her husband, or a setup.
Charley best wishes in second chance 💋🐇💍💘

Lots of layers!

I was a goner from the very beginning. The story opened with a bang and the action and intrigue just continued to build. Charly was resilient and Boone was intuitive and loyal. An awesome story.

Delightfully thrilled

This particular book gave you just enough spice that included a touch of erotica and a splash of suspense! Love not taken for granted but cultivated. From one Theresa to another Teresa (I mean Mallory), well done!

This storyline was so creative! So many twists and shockers! Bravo!

Definitely recommend to those who like some mystery with their romance. However, I am a tad bit disappointed that it ended with a HFN for the main characters and didn’t specify the fate of the secret villain. 4.5 Stars.

Good mystery

The romance between Charly and Boone was slow and it was a good thing. The mystery kept me intrigued until the end.

OMG... Boone's my kind of alpha male

Robert "Boone" Ryan was a take charge and hold no prisoners kind of man. He was the police chief of Hemingway, KY that got things done his kind of way. There was only one drawback, he was the town's playboy who was burning his way through all of the women in town and the next. He was the consummate party animal who came to work with a hangover more than his youngest officer. He was in a different woman's bed every night until Charlene "Charly" Johnson came to town. She was the kind of classy woman that he knew would capture his heart and never let go and he tried his best to stay away from her because he knew she deserved someone better than him. Boone really could not help the way that he was as the apple did not fall far from the tree.

Charly was trying her best to pull herself up by her bootstrap after the murder of her husband and subsequent fallout. She was hoping that her new job in Hemingway at the ritzy private school would be what she needed to finally get back on her feet but things went haywire from day one. The snarky bourgie board of the school did not want her there but were forced to hire her and were looking for any reason to get rid of her.

From the first time that Boone and Charly saw each other, it lit a spark that neither of them could put out. Boone wanted her bad and Charley was determined not to get involved with another philandering man again and tried her best to resist him. She did not want her heartbroken again. Everyone in town could see their crusty police chief had a thing for Charly and could not believe what they were seeing in him for the first time ever. He could not understand why he had this thing for Charly and it scared him, but what scared him more was the threats against Charly with the possibility of someone doing harm to her. They turned out to be the healing balm that soothed each other's broken hearts and spirits.

I just love how Mallory wrote a different kind of story this time. I love how she gives hints to the mysterious drama in her story and turn it the whole story around with the cause or solution to the problem ends up being something entirely different. But she gave us hints in the beginning. I hope to see more of Boone and Charly in future editions to this story. There's even a good story behind Duke and Bab, Boone's parent's relationship and why Babs stayed with him. There were six boys in Boone's family and nothing was said about his siblings. I can see a book about Boone's cousin and mayor Freddie. There is definitely a story there. I hope Mallory expands on them too. Besides, I want to see Boone and Charly get their HEA. Great job Mallory as always!

Just Ok

I normally love the books by this author. I love the toughness and unyielding love. I love the thuggish and gentle ways of the main characters
I love the passion. But this time I found the book lacking. For the first I wish I had borrowed a book by this author instead of purchasing it. However if there is still more to come of Boone and Charly then I hope there is more of all the things I normally love from this talented author.

It was ok....

This book was ok. Definitely not MMS usual. This read almost like one of those religious romance books with nothing erotic at all. Definitely not like anything else she wrote.

A great mature read for everyone

The characters were well written. I didn't see the twist coming. I'm glad Charly was able to keep her job. I hope there is a sequel. I want to see what happens next.
