This story is a cute, quick read. In the story best selling author Charlie and ship captain Luca have an instant connection when they met on Luca's cruise ship while Charlie is there to promote her book. Of course, it is not as easy as an instant attraction and Charlie and Luca have to decide what they need and want.
I liked to book. There were parts where it felt that the problems were big and they worked through them too easily. However, I did enjoy it and would read more books by the author. I like that characters and the story.

This was a good read. Charlie is a successful author and is on a cruise ship with her friend Sam. Early in the book we find out that Dean;s wife is divorcing him. she can't handle his job. He was looking for a quick fling and she was looking to lose her virginity. However, by the end they had so much more and got a happy ending.

Jillian's latest book is an absolute delight to read! I was caught up in the story from the very first page. Charlotte "Charlie" Miller has a YouTube channel and has written a book documenting her weight loss journey. She and her best friend Sam are on a cruise where she is giving a speech about her book. The night before she has to give her speech, she receives a call in the middle of the night from Sam to come to the piano bar and rescue her from Kevin, a fan of Charlie's book. While there, she gets a little drunk and ends up singing karaoke. While singing, she looks up and catches the eyes of a man in the back of the room wearing a UCLA hat. She thinks he's sexy and ends up singing to him. Unbeknowst to her, it's Dean, the ship's captain. After receiving an email from his wife Gianna, telling him she has sent him divorce papers to their next stop in the Virgin Islands, he is unable to sleep and goes to the bar undercover trying to relax. He is captivated by Charlie as well and they end up talking on the deck after she finishes her song. Sam comes to the rescue and gets Charlie back to their room. She continues to look for UCLA man but is unable to find him. At the Captain's dinner she is to attend, Dean is sure Charlie Miller is a man and is surprised when he finds out it's the hot woman from the piano bar. He enjoys the dinner more than he thought he would and asks her to stay behind. She agrees and the two spend a passionate night together. She is awoken early the next morning when he gets a text from his mother than mentions his wife. Hurt and disappointed in herself, Charlie sneaks out of Dean's room. Things get crazy when Dean gets called to the bridge when the ship is now in the path of a tropical storm. They manage to keep the ship and passengers safe and when all is said and done, he realizes why Charlie left and goes to explain. At first, she is hesitant to believe him but in the end, she does and the two agree to see where things go between the two.

This is another fun filled story from the very talented Jillian Riley All her books flow well and get you immerse in the characters and this one is no exception
Charlotte Marie Miller (Charlie) is a YouTube blogger and author who wrote about her weight loss journey a journey that has made her life totally different to what it was when she was overweight she never would have been asked to be a guest speaker on a cruise to the Virgin Islands but here she is with her best friend Samantha Mycek (Sam). Sam is also encouraging her to change her life in another way and loose her virginity while on the cruise she doesn't think that will happen until she meets the ships captain Captain Dean Luca. The attraction between them is instant and they quickly fall into a relationship but he has his own problems he has just received a application for divorce from his wife he isn't that surprised to receive it things haven't been good for a while. When Charlie sees a message asking Dean to meet his wife for dinner she is horrified and quickly flees then to complicate matters further the ship is damaged in a storm and he is tied up with that. Charlie seems to be a more introverted writer who went to flab to fabulous. She has been given the opportunity to go with a plus one into a cruise to promote her book. Well her plus one happens to be her spunky best friend Sammie. Charlie is a virgin but only her bestie Sammie knows.
Dean is trying to figure out if being the best at your job while sacrificing love is actually the best plan. Dean unfortunately is going through a divorce while out being a captain of the Allure. Captain Luca decides one night to pretend to be yet another passenger to drown his sorrows and fate should have it he met Charlie.
Charlie is everything his soon to be ex wasn't. Sparks fly immediately. Will Dean risk career and all to be with this tempting passanger?
I did love this book one thing that was upsetting to me is the title days protective Captain. I was assuming there would be some protectiveness happening but there just wasn't any. Now don't get me wrong the book is fantastic and not every reader is into an overbearing alpha male like me. I was a bit bummed by that but I would definitely recommend this book for any one who wants a super fun romance read!

It's easy to understand how being the captain of a ship can keep you away from home. Unfortunately it also causes Captain Dean Luca to lose his wife. He doesn't seem to bothered though since it was really more of a marriage of convenience to satisfy his mother.
Charlotte "Charlie" Miller has done what every big girl dreams of, she found a healthy way to lose a large amount of weight and has kept it off. She even wrote a book about it. This best selling self help book is why she is touring the lecture circuit, with perks including an all expenses paid cruise for her and her best friend Sammie.
During the cruise Dean and Charlie meet and have a hot fling. Sammie also meets a man, Josh, and hits it off. Through drunken nights of karaoke and violent storms on the sea, the couple soon realizes that they are meant to be together. Not about to lose out on another chance at a happy ending, Dean takes a huge leap and retires from the cruise ship life. All four characters wind up living very happily Dean and Charlie in Arizona and Sammie and Josh in Philadelphia.

Charlie lost a lot of weight and is a instant famous blogger/ writer. She's on a cruise to talk about her journey to weight loss and her up coming book. Her friend came along with her. They meet the captain at a piano bar but don't know that he is the captain of their boat until they meet him later at dinner. Dean is just ending his marriage because his wife can't deal with having a husband that is away working as much as he is. When he sees Charlie she takes his breath away. He is even more stunned when she turns up at the dinner he has on his ship. Sparks fly between them and they have an amazing night. Yet a misunderstanding has Charlie sneaking away. Will Dean get a chance to explain things to her before she gets away?
This is a great story that will draw you in from the first chapter. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This has been a pleasant change from the romantic suspense I usually read. This story was fun and sweet. Charlie is a complicated type of gal. She is a bit of an introvert when actually dealing with people face to face, but get her on her blog and she is outgoing and fearless. Dean Luca is the ship's captain and not allowed to personally interact with his passengers. They've seen each other a few times and are both attracted but nothing happens. At least until the Captain's Dinner. They end up spending a wonderful evening together. That ends quickly due to a miscommunication and a storm right in their path. I laughed over Charlie's fun karaoke performance and Sam's warning to Dean at the dinner. This is a really good upbeat book. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.

Protective Captain by Jillian Riley was amusing and full of passion as this story takes place on a cruise ship and what transpires between the Captain and virginal Charlie who is a YouTube celebrity promoting her book. This book had it all humor, passion, fans, friends, stormy seas as well as what transpires on life on a cruise. This was a fast read about two opposites who are attracted to each other and become explosive as they find love on the high seas!! Dean and Charlie are attracted to each other but their journey is filled with obstacles and twists and turns. This was an enjoyable romantic story filled with lots of emotion and passion. This book is well worth reading, you will not be disappointed.

This was a rollicking good read
Charlie, author of a New York Times best selling self-help book, has a public speaking event on a cruise ship where she meets Dean, the Captain of the ship, who is somewhat incognito at the time. As the story progresses they realize initial perceptions are wrong, each face some harsh realities, and both must pass through the turbulent waters that creates for any hope of a future together. Jillian Riley's Protective Captain takes the reader on a rough ride through the churning oceans of real life relationships and ends with smooth sailing as they realize their happy ever after. I really enjoyed all characters and their interactions as well as chuckling to myself at some of the antics they got up to.

As I began reading this book, my initial perception was the same as some of the characters, male or female. You will have to read to find out the answer.
Very easy read and so full of emotion, every emotion! Jillian wrote a wonderful story of people just living and learning to ride the waves. Sometimes we just need to take a leap and let life show us what is out there to enjoy. I felt connected in this story as in today's era, we so need to ride the waves and take a chance on life, even when it feels scary. The main characters in this book took many chances and a wonderful love story blossomed.
A definite must-read. Enjoy!!

Captain Dean Luca is in charge of a large cruise line, having trouble with his wife who wants a divorce. Taking time out to unwind in the piano bar falls for Charlie (Charlotte) though he doesn't know her name.At the Captain's table in his cabin he finds Charlie and he seduces the virgin. Although they fall asleep together Charlie hears his phone and glances at the message from his mother asking when he and his wife are coming for dinner. She runs out in tears thinking he's married and falls asleep only to be awoken by a siren and an announcement that everyone is to put on life jackets and go to Munster stations as there is a storm brewing. What will happen next read the book to find out.

Protective Captain is a nice romance story set on the high seas, well actually a cruise ship so no sexy pirates in this story. There is instant love when our h, Charlie, and the h, Captain Dean Luca, set eyes on each other. It is a good thing they are surrounded by water otherwise their hot and steamy chemistry would ignite the ship and burn it down when they have what turns out to be more than a fling.
Plus add in a second couple, Charlie's best friend Sam finds herself a man also.
This novella is sweet, romantic, funny, adventurous, passionate and very sexy all rolled into a great story-line and some entertaining characters.

Protective Captain by Jillian Riley is a scintillating story, taboo romance, and achingly sweet story that will keep you riveted!!!! Charlotte (Charlie) is a self-help guru promoting her book on a cruise ship. She meets up with Dean…..and, BOY, THE SPARKS DO FLY!!!!!! She doesn’t know who he is, but she is immediately smitten!!!
Jillian Riley is a FABULOUS author who writes well and infuses her stories with heartache, humor, tenderness, sizzle, and…above all….ROMANCE!!! You just want to keep reading, even after the story is done. LOVED IT!!!!

I fell in love with the Charlie and Dean. Charlie is an internet sensation and author of a bestselling book on a cruise to start her speaking tour and Dean is the captain of the ship Allure.
Charlie saw Dean when he was in civilian clothes trying to be out on ship undercover and not as the captain, and she was up on stage for karaoke, that her best friend Sam set her up for singing like a virgin by Madonna.
Even with some misunderstandings along the way did Charlie and Dean reach their HEA? Will have to read.

Dean is the ship,Captain and getting a divorce and signing the papers in the Virgin Islands. He pretends to be a guest on ship and meets Charlie’s and they spend the night together. But then a storm keeps him busy and can’t see her.She finds out he’s married and stays away. He goes to find her but can’t and doesn’t know why. Will they find each other and talk?

The drama, misunderstanding and work commitments after their one night of unbridled passion, nearly cost them their happy ending. The author did a wonderful job, ensuring the supporting characters in the story, helped to make this book a definitely must read.

I really enjoyed Protective Captain. It is well written and I like how the book alternates between the two main characters point of view. I like the characters. They are interesting, relatable and lovable. Charlie and Dean have an intense, instant attraction to one another. I enjoyed the cruise ship setting. It made it interesting and fun. This book is fun, engaging, romantic, sweet and exciting. A perfect sweet romance!

I really enjoyed this book overall. The beginning and middle were really good...I felt I got to know each character and they both were lovable. The story flowed well and it kept me turning the page. Where the story wasn't so good for me was the ending. It felt so rushed and abrupt. I felt like saying, "wait, what??" Also, I didn't feel like the title matched the book. The Hero didn't act "protective" (not saying he was a bad character bc of that). So that was a bit misleading, I felt.

Charlie is an author of a best selling book. She and her best friend Sam are going on a cruise to help promote the book. Dean is the captain of the cruise ship. He hasn’t read Charlie’s book but he wants to meet the man who wrote the book. When Dean meets Charlie, she cannot believe that the guy that she has seen is the captain. This book has lots of twists and turns and you will not be able to put it down. I really enjoyed reading this book.
