Sinner and Saint #1

Crossing the Line

Rate this book
From #1 Amazon bestselling writer of Pretend You’re Mine, Lucy Score delivers once again with the two-book Sinner & Saint story.

Xavier Saint’s by-the-book rules are thrown out the window when he finds himself crossing lines to keep his beautiful client in line. His business is protecting clients—often from themselves—and as co-founder of one of the top private security firms in the country, he’s seen it all. But when he’s contracted to protect Waverly Sinner, the stunning and rebellious actress, he finds that some rules are made to be broken.

Waverly Sinner is a second-generation Hollywood goddess living in the gilded cage of expectations. She’s reluctantly playing her role while counting down the days to her escape from the life she never chose. But meeting sexy, rule-bound Xavier Saint slams the door shut on her own private prison. She doesn’t trust him and will do anything to shake him loose.

Sparks fly and ignite when Waverly and Xavier’s agendas clash. But when a dangerous stalker threatens her life, can Waverly trust Xavier to stand between her and a potential killer? Or will their growing feelings for each other endanger them both?

Author’s Note: This is the first novel in a two-book series. The stories take place five years apart so my astute readers can guess that this one doesn’t have the happily ever after we all love. But I promise, I more than make up for it with the conclusion of Xavier and Waverly’s story in Breaking the Rules.

**** Every reader's opinion differs this is MINE.......feel free to read the book and form your own

To my gr friends I wish when this showed up as currently reading on your gr feed you'd have told me don't do it girl......it's not worth it......but unfortunately I DID it

Xavier Saint runs his own security company with his partner Micah. He's hired by the parents of actress Waverly Sinner to protect her when what they really want is a babysitter. Thinking Waverly is like every other Hollywood starlet Xavier takes the job expecting a spoiled and selfish brat but instead meets the most beautiful and captivating woman he's ever met. Determined to resist the attraction between them Xavier sticks to being a professional but the chemistry is too potent to resist until a stalker who's killed before brings danger to Waverly.

Waverly Sinner is a second generation movie star, she's grown up in the spotlight but behind her fame and fortune she's counting down the days to her freedom. With an alcoholic mom and a philandering father she's ready to leave the bright lights behind. When Xavier is thrust into her life Waverly starts off resentful at just another way she doesn't have any control over her own life, but as they grow closer the attraction deepens. When her stalker escalates Waverly decides to finally take measures to get the threat behind her and move on with her life....with devastating consequences.

************
Let me say I love this author's work and so I started this without reading reviews or the blurb......huge fucking mistake

1) There is absolutely No way this needed 2 books! None! Book 1 which is this mess was overly long and drawn out for no good reason! So much unnecessary description and drama with the stalker could've been left out to give the couple their HEA here.

2) Waverly started off as so immature and dramatic I was annoyed by 30% in, she made some dumb decisions that had me wondering at her sanity. At the 11th hour, I mean literally at the end, she showed some maturity.....just not enough to get me to read the next book.

3) The romance showed some promise, with great chemistry but because the author wanted a cliffhanger it devolved into a whole lot of back and forth. Xavier would decide he wanted Waverly no matter what, then go back to thinking it was unprofessional, they had sex then refused to discuss it and days passed with nothing happening. Then when he blows up at her and says some hurtful shit that absolutely did not fit his character or actions up to that point I was just over it all. By that time Waverly was hurt and he was in tears and confessing his love and I prepared myself for a HEA......ha!!! Only for him to say he wasn't good for her, then spewing even more bs that apparently necessitated a 5 Fucking year separation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4) I read the sample of book 2 and it's said he was following her in the media because he couldn't stop thinking about her but that he'd dated and even discussed marriage with one of his relationship persons......listen....deep breath........you know what fuck it all this is bullshit

I've learned to be cautious with this author, once an auto buy ill have to wait on reviews before I ever take a chance on her again......I'm so bitterly disappointed

In this book

No cheating
No OW/OM drama
Both had relationships before
H didn't seem to be a manwhore(just a wishy washy dick 😂)
h has a stalker who attacked her
H 27 I think/h is 20
Cliffhanger ending where they are broken up

wtf was this and why did I waste my precious time on it :|
Further discussing the book because you guys are curious,
Reasons why you shouldn’t waste time and money on this book:
1-the bodyguard and client trope is done in the most cliché way possible.
2-I understand having a stalker sucks but a huge part of this book is just the main female character saying how much it sucks to be a rich blond heiress actress in Hollywood *insert eye roll”
3-The steamy scenes are boring duh.
4-He calls her Angel because his last name is Saint and her last name is Sinner.wtf? Is that supposed to be cute?
5-The cringey family scenes reminded me of something you’d find on Lifetime.

This duet has been in my tbr list for two years!
A story full of romance and suspense. Xavier and Waverly were a beautiful couple and shared an amazing chemistry.
Xavier from Invictus Security was hired to protect Waverly who was a very famous actress. As the story progressed, there was a stalker after Waverly and the suspense escalated.

The writing was enticing, the characters were developed in depth and the plot was engaging.
But, it was too lengthy and dragging. I would have preferred if the story was shorter without some unnecessary scenes that were prolonging the plot and/or had so many descriptions.

- Who is the Hero? Xavier Saint, Age: 27, Occupation: co-owner of security firm
~ Xavier is ex military and he owns Invictus Security with his friend Micah. The company is successful and is growing by leaps and bounds thanks to their great work. Xavier comes from a loving family with no major skeletons in his closet.
~ “After a long stint in Afghanistan with Army intelligence, Xavier had been recruited by the Defense Clandestine Service. There he met Micah.
Many missions later and Xavier and Micah were disillusioned alumni of the intelligence world with a wealth of security knowledge. They’d put that expertise to work on the West Coast with Invictus Security, a private security firm that provided military-grade protection to those who could afford their services”

- Who is the Heroine? Waverly Sinner, Age: 20, Occupation: famous Hollywood actress
~ Waverly is no stranger to show business. Both her parents are in the spotlight and she’s been acting for years. Things at home aren’t particularly rosy - her dad can’t keep his dick in his pants and her mom is an alcoholic. All Waverly wants is to take control of her own life for once and that means getting out of the spotlight and being a normal college girl.
~ “Waverly just wanted to be normal. She wanted a house that didn’t need security. A family that didn’t spend their entire lives pretending for the cameras. She wanted a job where people didn’t follow her around demanding to know what she had for breakfast and who she was sleeping with. Where no one wanted a piece of her or maliciously hoped to witness a very public and humiliating downward spiral.”

~ “At twenty, she already had twelve movies under her belt. She’d won an Oscar at fifteen, been gifted this very Mercedes from a studio at sixteen, and filed her first lawsuit against tabloids at eighteen. She had her own star on the Walk of Fame. She’d never attended a day of school, instead getting her education crowded around tight tables in trailers with on-set tutors. Prom and Homecoming had been traded for hundreds of red carpets”

Plot overview:
~ Someone is out to hurt Waverly and her parents have hired Invictus to provide security (and to keep her in line). Waverly is none to happy to have a babysitter tag along and Xavier isn’t very excited about following around a pampered starlet.
However, these two quickly form an attraction and find that maybe their first impressions were a bit off.
Danger lurks around many corners. Not only from the growing chemistry that Xavier knows he can’t indulge in, but also from the stalker who is determined to make Waverly pay for her disrespect.

** The following are my thoughts about this book: **

* * this ends in a cliffhanger, and I honestly didn’t see the need. They had the typical “I failed you” breakup and it kind of seemed like it would resolve itself in the last few pages. But nope….it ends like this
~ “It was time for a new life. One that she chose for herself. One where she would never again allow herself to be blinded by love.”

It could have easily ended with Xavier coming back, doing a little groveling and then a HEA. I honestly didn’t really understand why Xavier backed away in the first place. The last 5% was a little head scratching for me as I felt like it completely deviated from the way his character had been acting. Xavier all of a sudden felt like he failed her and then said some really crappy things to her about how she needed to finally stand on her own two feet and she wasn’t good for him Huh? He was never mean before so who was this guy?? Also, he comes from a loving family, so it seemed like he was completely on board with a lasting relationship. So the breakup just seemed to come out of left field and felt very forced.

* * I liked the various locations, but I never “felt” like I was in a different place. There was something missing in the descriptions. I didn’t need thorough details about an outfit or a room, but I did need vivid details about the scenery and the culture of the country to make me feel like I was right there with Xavier and Waverly. When it really mattered, the writing felt a little bit flat rather than vibrant.

* * I was really hoping for a deeply suspenseful book, but there just wasn’t as much danger or intrigue as I was expecting.

* * I’m not very happy that the next book takes place five years from now. I just don’t understand their breakup, so I’m not sure if I will read it or skip it.

**Overview:**
- Content Warning: alcoholic parent, stalker

Quotes:
“You’re going to have to get used to me, Angel.”
“Angel?” Her well-shaped eyebrows arched.
“Your code name.”
“Well, isn’t that sweet?” she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
“I like to go for irony with my code names. Besides, if I used Bride of Satan it wouldn’t be much of a code, now would it?”

“Why are you yelling at me?”
“I’m not yelling,” he yelled. “I’m being upset on your behalf in a loud manner.”

“I need less testosterone in this room,” Carol said. “You two with the penises, get out.”

“Don’t let me ruin your celebration. I believe you were squealing and prancing around?”

I have loved Lucy Score's Blue Moon series but I think this series is my new favorite. I love Waverly and Xavier. Lucy is a phenomenal story teller and although I am not a fan of cliff hangers I totally understood the need for a second book to finish their story. Waverly needed time to find herself and I appreciate Lucy not rushing the character in order to get everything in 1 book. I am glad book 2 was downloaded on my kindle and ready to go as soon as I finished book 1.

3.5 stars.

I love Lucy Score and enjoyed this book but I felt like the story was a bit drawn out before the conclusion which ended on a cliffhanger. It took me 3 days to read this when I normally blow through her books in a day and a half at most. I'm still looking forward to book 2 though LOL.

WARNING!! This book is dangerous.... First of all, it is nearly impossible to put down. I read all 342 pages in two evenings. It would have been one, but my husband insisted that I had to go to work the next day... Secondly, this book will give you all the feels. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and maybe yelled a little... Thirdly, it ends on a cliff-hanger. Fortunately, the second half of this book comes out on December 28th, so I won't have to live in suspense for too much longer.

The characters are complex but likable, the danger is real and well-paced, the humor and heart are perfectly placed so the suspense and drama won't bog you down, the romance is hot and sweet (holy moly, the dirty talk!!) and the "bad" characters (hopefully) have a chance for redemption in book two.

You NEED to read this book now, but be ready for an emotional ride!

Was not as good as “things we never got over” and I really feel like this could have just been one book instead of a two book series. Nonetheless, I will be reading the sequel just to see how it pans out.

"God damn it." His voice was jagged. "I can't decide if I want to kiss you or choke you."

Quick Thoughts:
-I enjoyed this celebrity/bodyguard romance.
-Had great forbidden vibes.
-An element of suspense I enjoyed too.
-Probably the most alpha MMC I've read from this author. But at times maybe too alpha?
-Some great tension, steam, dirty talk. And banter.
-A tiny bit of a chase kink here that was spicy!
-Have to say, I've read the author's newest books mostly, so I could definitely tell that she's had some growth in her writing since this.
-It felt dated in a way. Like the alpha male telling her what she should and shouldn't wear, dated.
-It dragged a little in places too for me.
-But a good read, with a cliffhanger that has me diving into the next book.

Hmm...

Let's just jump right into thoughts on this one:
~First off like every other review I've read this really should have only been one book. There is no reason that the 400 pages couldn't have wrapped up the story.

~Waverly and Xavier weren't the greatest couple I've ever read. Both were very typical character's you would find in a book like this. Waverly is a nepo baby who is sick of the Hollywood life and Xavier owns a security company. He gets assigned to protect Waverly after an incident with paparazzi and of course there is instant attraction and Xavier is thrown into a moral dilemma over this.

~A lot of scenes in this book could have just been eliminated. I hate fluff and this book did have a lot of it.

~Waverly's mother is an awful person..that's all I have on that.

~The dialogue is also just okay. Some of the secondary characters in the book are added for comic relief and fell short in my opinion.

Only time will tell if/when I decide to pick up the second one.

This book is so fantastic! For anyone who loves a good suspense filled romance, this one is a must read! And might I add, an amazingly hot male character is just waiting for you to man crush on. The ending is a soul crusher but thanks to Lucy Score and her quick thinking, the sequel is already in my library ready to dive right into.

Ever since I read Pretend You're Mine I knew Lucy was an author to watch. She did not disappoint with this book. Sinner and Saint, Waverly and Xavier respectively, have an instant attraction. Waverly is Hollywood royalty but desires a regular life. Xavier is there to protect her and does just that while simultaneously falling in love with her. Waverly's relationship with her parents (both have their own issues) is strained at best. Xavier begins to really pay attention to the dynamics and gives Waverly what she desires, the ability to break free and be her within his safe arms. Their relationship builds but is strained. After a major accident their issues come to the forefront and the relationship is left hanging (major cliffhanger). I loved this book and anxiously await the next one. If you enjoy a little romance, with some hot loving and a lot of suspense then this book is for you.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Lucy Score has done it again. I read this book in just a few hours...couldn't put it down. Xavier Saint is hired to be security for Waverly Sinner a 20 year old actress. Sparks fly on their first meeting. I laughed out loud at some of the sarcasm that came from Waverly.

I enjoyed the quick attraction between the two. The feelings grow between them and you feel X's pain when he is scared of not being able to keep Waverly safe.

If you want a book that shows the ups and down between a rich Hollywood family and a handsome Alpha security guy, this is the book to read. The story doesn't end it book 1. Can't wait to read the rest of their story.

Well dang!!

I don't even know where to start! Holy cow this book!! I already love Lucy I think she's a wonderful author, this book took her to another level. Let me just say I don't like cliffhangers, I usually stay away but this book is so worth it.

The characters are to die for, Waverly and Xavier are perfect together. From the very begging I knew they were going to challenge each other, fight and fall in love. They just work and the chemistry is off the charts!

This book is suspenseful, funny, sad, and emotional. It has it all! I would 100% recommend it!!

The second book can't be out soon enough!! I can't wait to see where she takes us. Waverly and Xavier definetly deserve their HEA.

Oh. The. Anticipation!

I love the play of words on the characters names...LOL! These characters....I could just jump into this book and shake the stupid out of them!! I like the way the characters are needy in their own way. And the leading male is warring with himself to do the right thing. The amount of time and tension seems about right for the characters to give in, but then the give up cliffhanger..... ok, y'all just read this book.... don't be hatin' on the cliffhanger...just move on into the next book. Lucy Score has a way with spinning a story and keeping you smiling, almost crying, and ready to slap the stupid out of somebody... I can't wait to get into the second book ...Breaking the Rules...they broke plenty in this book ;-)

A good book

I enjoyed reading about Waverly and Xavier and of their love. The book had a lot of sex in it and I was enjoying it very much.

Until the break up! I could not believe that Xavier just walked away from someone he told He loved her.

I cannot wait till I get the next book in this two book series. I hope that they get back together.

This book started out with Xavier guarding Waverly who is a movie super star. She has a stalker and he is determined to get him.

He is taking all precautions with this case. He is using all his staff. He runs the agency that is guarding her.

The book is well written and the story is good! I want him to continue to guard her.

It was well worth the time to read.

Movie star, and child of two famous movie stars, Waverly Sinner is a twenty year old on the brink of turning into a strong capable adult. She just has to get there first. Her parents hire a security guard for her after she has a bad run in with some paparazzi. Enter Xavier Saint. Ex military, he is a crazy good security guard. Owner of the company, and experienced enough to know what to do and what to watch for.

Along comes a crazy stalker just in time to stir up some trouble between these two.

Xavier is fighting his feelings non stop for Waverly. He is not supposed to sleep with a client. This could jeopardize their safety! hahahaha. He unbends long enough to have a torrid hot sexy affair with his girl.

The ending is kind of abrupt, and while not exactly a nail biting cliff hanger, there is not closure for our couple. The author wrote a note at the end of the story apologizing for the ending, but she knew the story was entirely too long to fit in one book. So she split it in two. So if you are looking for a happy ever after all wrapped up by the end, then move on. This one requires you to read the next book to see how much groveling is going to happen to get to a happy ending.

I found the story interesting. Yes, I have bought and started the second one. I found the sex to be sexy. I have almost no knowledge of how Hollywood works, so that was all new for me. I actually learned some stuff reading this one. ;)

Lucy Score books are usually "light and fluffy" and this one was not quite as light as some of her others, but I'm pretty sure all of that will happen in book 2. I did enjoy it. It is good.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t absolutely love Crossing the Line like I loved Lucy’s other books. It was a very slow moving story. A modern day retelling of “The Bodyguard”, nothing really new there. I was also expecting a funny, uplifting story as most of her books are, and this one was not. But I want to see this couple together so I will read the next book.
