I found this book on Amazon at an incredible price.
Sean-Paul Thomas is one of my favorite authors and a rare gemstone. This man has no genre limits.
Cold Heart is a book full of action and violence from beginning to end. Too much violence for my tastes, but for fans of the genre it is a must read. Estelle is an interesting and contradictory character. Loving mother and wife, will kill anything: men, women, children without blinking. However, she is not the kind of character you hate or love, she is simply an assassin who does his job without asking too many questions. Many violent characters justify their behavior with childhood traumas. This is not the case with Estella. It is true that she did not have a happy childhood in a normal family, but neither did she have terrible traumas.
The book "Cold Heart" by Sean-Paul Thomas is a great action thriller with a lot of brutal action. If you love a good thriller and fast-paced action this is the book for you. The book is great and certainly not for readers who don't like brutal scenes, blood, and murder. The main character in the book is Estelle, she works in a secret agency, as a paid killer. After reading in the newspaper that her sister had committed suicide by jumping into the river, she immediately suspected the news because her sister hated water and swimming. She immediately suspects that her sister was killed and decides to investigate what happened. But it will awaken the dark shadows of her past and the memories of her childhood. What her sister's murderers do not know is that they found themselves on the path of an ice killer without a jolt of mercy. The main characters are well-characterized, and Estelle is pretty mean and ruthless, regardless of the price she has to pay for what she does. As in his books, writer Sean-Paul Thomas takes us into the world of the dark side of the human psyche, set in the hidden underworld of the crime scene. I would recommend the book to all fans of psychological thriller and brutal action.
Another amazing story by Sean-Paul! Estelle is a paid assassin with a cold heart. But when she finds out her younger sister died, she puts herself and her family in a lot of danger, but she is determined to find out the truth. She is brutal and on a revenge mission. This really was an action-packed story and I'd like to read more about Estelle's life and her missions.
I really enjoyed writing this very dark and film-noir action thriller while getting deep into the cold-hearted and misunderstood, psyche of our anti-hero/villain, Estelle, born and raised in the darker, rougher and seedier regions of Glasgow town. Most of my books are usually set in Glasgow's more glamourous and stunning (on the outside at least) older sister, Edinburgh. But I did live here once upon a time for almost a year and have really fond memories of the charming, rugged and fascinating city of grim industry and hardened Scottish culture. So I always wanted to write about her someday. The quirky streets. The surprisingly upbeat people. The unpredictable weather right in the heart of summer. I'd love to write a sequel one day too. Since the book was left on a pretty big cliffhanger. And out of all of the characters I've ever written about, the hardened, steely, kick-ass Estelle is definitely up there as one of my guilty pleasure favourites.
This is a very violent book. Almost what I expected, but then again not quite so. Estelle is not just an assassin, she is a very cold hearted uncaring killer. Pretty sure I will not read another novel with her in it.I
I have read many books about assassin's and lone wolf's and so on. But some attempt is usually made to make us readers emphasize with the killer. Like maybe they only killed terrorists or other bad guys who deserved to die. Or maybe they had a rule: no women or children. Not so Estelle. She will kill anyone anywhere: man, women, or child. She might as well be playing a video game.
But no attempt was made to make us care about Estelle. And after years of not seeing her sister, all of a sudden she wants revenge on her sister's killer? Where did this love of family come from all of a sudden? If she truly cared she would have keep tabs on her sister. Just an excuse for Estelle to kick more people. Some maybe deserved it, many more not so.
Right off the bat she blew up an airliner full of women and children. Then killed a guy and his wife and child to cover a trail back to her. Where these characters bad guys? No! I guess I just never got over the airliner. Hundreds dead for no reason. And the killer was the main character?
Hard to like Estelle or get behind her. Sure she had a rough life, but there is nothing good about her. In the end her organization kills 2 innocent police officers just doing their jobs. Not sure who the target audience is.
But Estelle does live up to the title of this book.
Cold Heart, the woman who is cold as ice. Estelle is a professional killer working for some really secretive people. But when her sister appears in the news, saying that she died going for a swim. Estelle gets suspicious and digs deeper. But what Estelle does, is kicking a very big hornet's nest. Cold Heart is thrilling and full of action with her bringing the house down. I enjoyed the book as much as I enjoyed her chilling decisions, while I do not envy her, I do love her determination and "get things done" attitude.
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest book review. I would like sincerely thank Sean-Paul Thomas, for letting me read his book free of charge.
The book “Cold Heart” by Sean-Paul Thomas is an excellent action thriller with a lot of brutal action. If you love a great thriller and action-packed thrillers with strong female characters, this is the book for you. It is written in a third character’s point of view, the story flips between Estelle’s past and the present as she navigates through the mystery of her sister’s death. It offers several twists along the way and is absolutely exciting and never boring until the end of this dramatic and gripping well-written and the crafted book will make it impossible for you to put it down.
My expectations for thrillers is never very high. The Reacher types who have superman-like characteristics and can see around corners, not to mention supreme prescience, I find preposterous. But, they can also make for quick, light, fantastical reading.
This book fits into that mold. It's violent, non-stop action, and has an ending that took me completely by surprise that begs for a sequel to make everything in the world right. To describe Estelle as a cold-hearted assassin is the height of understatement. She has a husband and child but that doesn't give her any qualms about bringing down a Russian airliner and murdering the family of the airport worker she needed to terrorize into getting her access to the baggage compartment of the plane.
Estelle was recruited by some shadow agency-- it's unclear whether it's government related -- that molded her into the murderous person she has become. Discovering that her sister has been murdered, Estelle, contrary to the commands of her handlers, cuts a swath of murder through the Glasgow of corrupt cops and politicians and former friends now gone bad. (It's more than a little ironic the one who saves her life in the men's room was also the one who sold her out.) There's no one to root for and little subtlety in the action. Estelle is laser-focused only on getting revenge for her sister's murder. Unfortunately, that's not what her minders had in mind for her, and they take their own form of revenge that I thought was shocking.
The author does a great job of keeping your attention.
I thank the author for a free copy of the book. My comments were not influenced by that one bit. Certainly as good as most Reachers and Davenports, but I have to say that after reading many of the more "modern" thrillers, I long for the characterizations, subtleties, and language of Ross MacDonald and Raymond Chandler. But then I'm getting old. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. It was hard to put down.
If you like a main character to be a villain instead of a hero read “Cold Heart”. Estelle Munroe nicknamed “Cold Heart” is an assassin serving a mysterious individual with powers to control whatever he wants in the shadows. But after a successful mission Estelle discovers that her sister Gayle drowned while swimming in the Clyde in Glasgow. Gayle was scared of water and to Estelle her death was totally out of character, more than questionable and even impossible. She had to find out what happened to her sister even defying he superiors orders to stay put….but at what price…..what a thrilling read.
In a third person’s point of view, the story flips between Estelle’s past and the present as she navigates through the mystery of her sister’s death. The methods of this ruthless assassin determined to find the truth are brutal and at time even unnecessary but are definitely effective. Estelle is certainly very hateful, uncaring and heartless human being. The author gave her a very interesting and difficult persona: at first you start hating her and cannot see anything qualifying her actions but slowly you are pulled in and rooting for her success in avenging her sister’s death. Estelle is a seriously kick-ass female protagonist and is well-defined character. I love her.
This novel is filled with violence and is very graphic. It offers several twists along the way and provides quite a roller coaster ride till the end. The wonderfully exciting and engrossing plot is well-written and crafted. This is one story where the author takes us into the dark side of the human psyche and into the world of brutal killings….
“Cold Heart” is attention grabbing…I loved it…well-done
Cold Heart starts off by diving full force into the Cold Heartedness of the main character Estellle. Estelle works for a secret organisation who ask her to do bad things. Another reviewer has mentioned similarities between Estelle and Villanelle ( Killing Eve). Both Villanelle and Estelle could be seen as killing machines. Although Estelle doesn’t have the same taste for high end clothes and belongings as Villanelle, she does have the same coldness when it comes to killing.
The plot follows Estelle as she tries to find out who killed her sister and why. This brings us to Glasgow where Estelle and her sister were brought up. I really enjoyed this part of the book as I was taken down streets I know and descriptions I could really relate to.
“It rained almost three hundred and sixty days of the year there in Europe’s wettest city”.
The plot included lots of violence, but as the title suggests Estelle is Cold of Heart and she does what she thinks is necessary without a thought.
At the beginning of the book, Estelle is a very unlikable character, but very cleverly the Author takes us back to her past and shows us parts of her that show a vulnerable side to her. Everyone has a weak spot and the job of the evil is to find that weak spot. Although I can’t excuse Estelle for what she does or even understand how she could do the things she does, the Author does make her become slightly likeable as the book goes on. To root for the bad guy takes some skill! As I think back, I know I shouldn’t have rooted for her, but I became so wrapped up in her plight that I did! Well done to Sean-Paul Thomas for this!
The book is so up to date, there is even a mention of corona virus and Brexit. It’s the little details in books that make all the difference. Not everything has to be so involved in the plot, the surroundings need to be key too. But not so much that it distracts from the plot and characters. The author did this perfectly.
“……looking even more like death warmed up than some poor sucker with a bad dose of the corona virus “
If you like fast paced Scottish thrillers, then this is the book for you. The detail was there for the location, the characters and the plot. Very very good! Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this novel about a ruthless killer on a revenge mission who sacrifices the life she knows to avenge her sister. The story was fast paced with detailed descriptions of glasgow and not for the faint hearted regarding the level of violence. Especially loved the ending.

The main character (Estelle) in this action packed thriller is a bit of an enigma. She is certainly a very hateful, uncaring and heartless human being when it comes to doing the job she has been assigned by her employer, she seems indifferent to her husband, she seems proud of her daughter but really has little connection with her. Her relationship with her sister is estranged to say the least but she will go to the ends of the earth to find out what happened to her and get her revenge for her death. Sean-Paul did a very interesting and somewhat difficult thing with Estelle - you start out hating the very soul of her and cannot see anything redeeming in her actions toward other human beings, but he somehow finds a way to get the reader to get behind her and encourage her on her task to avenge her sister’s death. She is a character you will come to love to hate and will find it difficult to remain in her corner for very long. This is a very graphic novel, filled with violence, strong language and many brutal killings throughout. There’s definitely a series in the making here - the ending was twisted, disturbing and oh so mind blowing.

I was recently contacted by @seanpaulthomasauthor, a very talented indie author, notifying me of his latest release, the thriller novel Cold Heart. I've read several of his works previously, and was very impressed with his world-building and character development, so I had high expectations for this novel. All of my expectations were definitely exceeded. . Estelle is an assassin, who returns to her hometown of Glasgow to determine the true cause of death of her estranged sister. With a seriously kick-ass female protagonist and several twists along the way, this story is a roller coaster ride the reader will gladly ride over and over again. This novel was originally written as a standalone tale, but the ending and the character of Estelle make me hope that this is just the first installment in a series. And that is something I VERY rarely feel, let alone say out loud. . For anybody who likes action-packed thrillers with strong female leads, Cold Heart is sure to be just what the doctor ordered. . My Rating: 4.5/5 stars
