Petunia’s birthday is today, and she’s got everything a birthday girl needs: An excited smile. The perfect bow. A big party
Wait . . . where is the party?! It was just here a second ago! The balloons, streamers, and guests are all gone!! In a mad dash to find it, Petunia calls the best detective in town, Agent Lion. He runs through the halls, follows clues, and even takes a quick swim—but will Agent Lion find Petunia’s celebration in time?
Jacky Davis, along with her husband David Soman, is one half of the creative team behind the New York Times bestselling Ladybug Girl series. She lives in upstate New York with her husband and children.
What a delightful book for the youngest mystery solvers! It's Petunia's birthday but her party has gone missing! But don't worry - Agent Lion is on the case! Agent Lion is a bit bumbling -- think Inspector Clouseau, although in my head, he spoke with a British accent. Maybe a James Bond wannabe? At any rate - he and Petunia follow the clues to find the party. There are many entertaining wrong turns but eventually they solve the mystery! This would be a great birthday gift or a good book to read right before a birthday. Even better - create your own "Case of the Missing Book" with a variety of clues for you and your kids to follow to find the book or some other hidden item! Be sure to take time to look at David Soman's illustrations. They are extremely detailed - even the art hanging on the hotel walls! And you will have to pick your favorite cake from the many displayed on the inside cover - that strawberry cake looks delicious!
Yet another tale about a mysterious disappearance for Agent Lion to solve. This time, Agent Lion is helping Petunia Skunk find her missing party. As always, Agent Lion gets a little distracted while looking for the missing party. Petunia is a great partner and keep Agent Lion on task as they follow the clues. Agent Lion books are great for beginner readers, because they have fantastic illustration that keeps their attention and there are just the right amount of words per page to keep younger students focused on the story. These stories also all the same: Agent Lion gets a case, he becomes distracted many times throughout the case work, and it ends with the case being solved. These books would be great tools for students to use as mentor texts for writing their own mystery. The story is fun, yet predictable, and leads the reader through a grand adventure. I am very fond of this series thus far.
A very cute book about a silly Lion detective who helps a skunk find her missing birthday party in a mythic 1960s New York City, like a set from “The Royal Tenenbaums.” Only complaint from me is that my eye slid off the pages, as if from a lack of visual design in the art. But then, the husband in the husband-and-wife team who created this book teaches visual arts, so what do I know. The character design is delightful and the story zips along with fun details sure to delight kids of all ages.
Agent Lion has been hired by Petunia Skunk to help her locate her lost birthday party. Searching for clues at the Hotel DU Lox, was a tad bit distracting because of Agent Lion's methods, but when Agent Lion, and Petunia took a moment to do some not thinking, a much needed clue floated by, and Agent Lion solved the mystery
Agent Lion receives an urgent message to hurry to the local hotel to help Petunia Skunk find her birthday party. In humorous fashion, Petunia does the actual detective work and Agent Lion just tags along creating hilarious situations. Eventually the part is found and Petunia is able to enjoy her birthday.
A bit predictable but cute. Could be popular with storytime.
The second book of the series. Agent Lion is on another case, and his detective skills... have not improved in the slightest. I guess it's kind of comical for little ones. Daughter liked it.
I dislike when the hero is obnoxiously dumb or incompetent. The redeeming line at the end, rings true, 'that the journey matters more than the destination.'
Agent Lion was dispatched to help Petunia Skunk find her missing birthday party at the Hotel Du Lox. They began to follow clues which were mostly picked up by Petunia. It turned out she was very good at detecting and he followed her lead. Funny story, great illustrations.
